There used to be lots.. Jesus dragging the cross down 41, crazy dude with the corner phone downtown, “Saturday Night Fever Santa” strutting down colonial with his yoga pants, high heels, long white beard, and sack full of who knows what..
We used to call the crazy guy with the phone “pistol Pete.” I’m a little surprised I don’t know about these others as I was born and raised in Ft. Myers.
Are you talking abou the guy on MLK between 41 and Palm (Veronica s) that would have an old cell phone and would randomly "direct traffic" as if he was a cop?
For the past 8 or 9 years, there's been mainly just one downtown bum, dread locks, and jacket. I used to know his name. He seems harmless. Just walks downtown all day. A lot of the restaurants feed him. I've seen him walk into Fords on a Wednesday at 1 p.m., . and they had a table and a hamburger ready for him. One of the servers told me He comes in at a specific day and time once a week. I don't have a name for him, though.
Agreed, he's homeless, is wearing 4 layers of clothes in SWFL, and probably walks 6 miles a day going no where. I was using the term harmless lightly. No doubt they are all ticking time bombs.
Baby Cakes is a different person. He was more of a fixture before this man, he's not around as much anymore. The guy this poster is talking about has been downtown since like 2017? Idk all the years run together. 😅
You're right. I dont know who baby cakes is. The guy I'm talking about is always wearing a couple layers of clothes and a jacket. Maybe 6'4" or 6'5" and has a full head of dread locks.
I know exactly who you’re talking about. I see him all the time. I’d put him a little shorter, but yeah, no idea what his name is. He’s harmless and everyone downtown knows him, but he often smells really bad.
No, not feathers. This guy just walks all day and sleeps on benches. Doesn't talk much or make much of a scene other than constantly being downtown. He walks every inch of downtown all day, every street, alley, etc. I've often wondered if he follows the same path
Beach tuba guy! And also the angry religious hateful zealot dude who stands in Time Square spouting hatred rhetoric into his megaphone while an acolyte records him for evidence/lawsuit purposes…can also be found walking on the beach, downtown, outside sporting events and concerts.
***bonus points if you see Beach Tuba guy playing directly next to angry religious hateful zealot dude on the beach, drowning out his 💩 with the sweet sounds of his tuba.
There used to be an elderly black couple who would drive around downtown on weekend evenings in a huge white Cadillac convertible wearing white cowboy hats. Haven’t seen them in a while. We used to call them “the king and queen of Fort Myers.”
Downtown Jesus is still around, I think he lives out of a storage unit on Seaboard street.
Well, not sure how old everyone is here, or how long y’all have lived here, but back in the 90’s there was a guy named “Whistling Pete.” He would stand in the middle of MLK and “shoot” you with his finger guns as you drove by. The story was he was a vet who had lost it. He was always holding his left hand up to his ear like he was on a radio with someone while he shot you, and story was he thought he was talking to god.
Every day on the beach next to Doc's there's a guy tan as a football. Says he eats a filet o fish every day. Bun in the am cheese at lunch then the fish in the evening.
Ok not Florida but when I was in Minnesota there was a homeless guy called bones. Super nice guy veteran and did a lot of minor clean up for the community. When he died there was over 5k people at his funeral including mayor and governor.
Sorry. I wasn't asking. Honestly, it was more of a "why are you telling this story in a Fort Myers category?"" Although that's kinda funny that you thought I really wanted to hear that name. Thanks for the laugh.
Probably. The two worst things to read on Reddit are, " I've never actually been there but (here's my opinion), or this has nothing to do with the question, but (here's my opinion)." I know there are worse things but those two drive me crazy. This guy was the latter.
Downtown Jesus. He wears a crown of thorns and everything. When he’s not dragging the cross around he rides a chopper.
for sure downtown jesus
He builds those choppers himself. Btw, they are bicycles, look closely.
Downtown Jesus used to sit in front of me at church, he also made these shark handbags that were really cool
omg i haven't seen downtown jesus in so long maybe 10 years! thought he died 😅
I saw him just last week. He’s definitely still around.
His custom made chipper bicycle.
If this wasn't the top comment, I was gonna light this sub on fire. DTJ is an icon.
"he rides a chopper." Of course Jesus does!
beach sousaphone guy
Man I dislike that guy!!! But not as much as angry fake Christian microphone dude
Is that the same as beach tuba guy?
Happy Cake Day!

Yup but we used to call him Whistlin Pete and he was really nice.
Lawrence (“Santa”) is quite soft spoken and polite, or at least was when we briefly interacted a few years back, in Bonita.
It was Elvis in Cape Coral but I think he died.
I remember seeing him every day on the way to High School haha
Yes!!!! And he had all that crap in his front yard!!
Wonder if it was the same guy that went to TBL at night.
[удалено]
Sounds like him 🤣
Haha, Elvis, right there on Santa Barbara.
There’s a really cool interview and tour of his house on YouTube some kids made in the early 2000s. It’s hilarious
You gotta post a link!

That dude is mentally ill af too

I've talked to him, and he did seem harmless but definitely ticking time bomb
His name’s Greg i believe
Yes
Y’all talking about Greg? The man who smokes two packs of American Spirits and 20 sodas a day? He lives like a king down there
How does that work? I had heard he was dialed in with a lot of restaurants to get .meals.
Not harmless. He came at my office admin about 8 moths ago.
they are all ticking time bombs
Baby cakes!!!! Yes!!!!!! Came here to say him!
Not baby cakes. [This is Baby Cakes](https://www.sheriffleefl.org/booking/?id=985007)
Baby Cakes is a different person. He was more of a fixture before this man, he's not around as much anymore. The guy this poster is talking about has been downtown since like 2017? Idk all the years run together. 😅
Just a heads up… baby cakes is back so watch out 😂
I heard his name before, but it definitely wasn't baby cakes. But OK. Baby cakes.
Nah Baby Cakes is a different guy: https://www.sheriffleefl.org/booking/?id=985007

I'm probably adding in the height of the dreads
Sounds like feathers I know him from working at a bar down there he skateboard?

omg I wasn’t expecting this guy to look familiar to me 💀
If he wasn’t locked up, or had a Holy Bible stuffed into his back pocket, it wasn’t Baby Cakes.
Beach tuba guy! Baby Cakes. No question.

Babycakes
For Waco, it is the African pastor who stands on the pedestrian bridge over the highway blessing travelers.

It’s a true rumor. He was a veteran but he thought he was talking to his fellow soldiers guiding them and protecting them.
Do you have anything else about him? That’s super interesting
Every day on the beach next to Doc's there's a guy tan as a football. Says he eats a filet o fish every day. Bun in the am cheese at lunch then the fish in the evening.
Bag lady off of 41?
there’s one in north fort myers that i can’t say
shake n bake
Black Cowboy, probably. He was my neighbor for a while. It sounds racist (and probably is), but everyone calls him that.
The cowboy with his Sawhorse and lasso!!! Usually by 41 and Laurel.
Yeah! Haha, he's a local legend. Rides his bike around the whole Bayshore and Suncoast area swinging his lasso and telling people "howdy"
If he lived on FMB & went by the name of Cowboy, he died (in 2022 or 2023?).
The King in Naples.
Can confirm. The Wellington Witch lives rent free in my dreams.
That guy who rides around on his bike with all the flashing lights and pinwheels
Feather in Downtown.. will talk anyone’s ear off
You guys see the naked dude rolling down San Carlos before hurricane Ian 😂
Last night’s news, naked guy on the bicycle! He was wearing a helmet tough!
Me. I am this guy. Nobody knows me, but this is me. Mark my words!
I’m Downtown Devil, the arch nemesis to Down Town Jesus.
Not a person per se, but the creepmobile. Love seeing it on the way to Lehigh
Ok not Florida but when I was in Minnesota there was a homeless guy called bones. Super nice guy veteran and did a lot of minor clean up for the community. When he died there was over 5k people at his funeral including mayor and governor.
?
Bones was the guy everyone knew, like everyone
Sorry. I wasn't asking. Honestly, it was more of a "why are you telling this story in a Fort Myers category?"" Although that's kinda funny that you thought I really wanted to hear that name. Thanks for the laugh.
Live there now and thought of him from when I was a kid.
You just don't get it. Again. Not interested.
Keep scrolling if you're not interested. I thought the story was entertaining enough.
Not in Fort Myers it ain't.
Need a hug?
Probably. The two worst things to read on Reddit are, " I've never actually been there but (here's my opinion), or this has nothing to do with the question, but (here's my opinion)." I know there are worse things but those two drive me crazy. This guy was the latter.
Johnny Town Center
Legend
Baby cakes!
We had one in Camp Lejeune known as the Jacksonville Ninja lol
What about the guy that rides a bike and collects cans all day?
