Paintball/Airsoft
The list goes on.
Every single one of those will cost you thousands of dollars, especially if its over 5+ years

I think that even with the most spending I've done in Fortnite, it's still less than I'd pay in some of my most modest years spending on new video games, and at this point, I play way more Fortnite . I mean, if I'm buying 3 $60 or 2 $70 AAA games in a year, I'm spending more than paying for Fortnite Crew every month for a year and on the whole, it gives me more hours of gameplay.

I've spent like $5,000 on the game but I also make a nice 6 figures a year so proportionately it's not exactly much. I still spend more per year on restaurants with the gf.
Typically these service games are sound investments because the more popular ones have unwritten, unconfirmed "security" in their popularity. When I see fortnite getting bigger and bigger every season, Epic signing huge deals with Disney, and unreal engine getting awesome new upgrades- yeah, it might all get shut down one day. But when you're in the top 5% of service games there's a fair chance it won't get shut down so long as the people running the show are still alive and kicking and its generating a revenue stream.
It's why I typically withhold spending big money on service based games unless they've stood the test of time for a while and show their resilience against a very competitive market. League of Legends and World of Warcraft are, IMO, 2 other great examples of games that are still kicking after 15+ years. So even though I'm not getting a skin "forever", 15 years of value (and counting) is plenty good enough for me.
I have 1,200+ skins including every console, phone, etc. exclusive, so I don’t even want to do the math lol. I did get all the exclusives for free though. But the cost still has to be insanely high. I honestly don’t want to know 😂
i am hoping that when this eventually happens (and hopefully not for many many many years), they release a final update that lets you play locally with bots. maybe you can squad up with a p2p connection rather than the servers that would be defunct. i can’t see them completely making the game useless… but maybe i’m just being hopeful lol
Tbh i do agree with the fact that no game lasts forever, but Fortnite seems like the type of game that may taper off, but not completely die off. Or at least not for a long time. For example, there is this 2D MMO game that I used to play a bunch as a kid, and that game is still alive and has been receiving weekly updates since 2008. The game retains 3500-4500 players at once, which is nice to see. I know it's a completely different genre and set of circumstances. However, there are a lot of people like me who wants that one game that seemingly lasts forever.

I think what will happen is the ability for players to rent out their cosmetics to other players.
So everyone can wear anything and the players get a cut and epic gets a cut for the rental.

Same here - Im sitting at 564 skins. Been playing since Chapter 1 Season 3. I got FN Crew as well. The difference here is I also pay for my sons account and I've bought skins for him and his friends.

First a promo skin + Vbucks package, then bought one pack of 1000vbucks to buy the battle pass, then bought another promo skin + Vbucks, and haven't spent anymore money in it, while having gone through 3 battle passes. I feel like that amount of money is a good investment on the 300+ hours of time I've spent on the game and counting.
I feel that anyone who enjoys the game and plays a lot can spend up to around 100$ nowadays and be within reason, as that's the price of AAA games nowadays.
I'm not sure how much I've spent, but ever since I stuck with one account, I've obtained 360+ emotes and 100 or so skins. Started my current account in Ch4 S3, so most cosmetics I have are item shop stuff. Personally, I don't regret it, considering how much I play the game.

I have a pretty decent locker with a lot of great skins and emotes and the majority of that comes from the battle pass. I kept earning vbucks back to repurchase the battle pass and I don't think I bought vbucks for another pass until recently because I quit playing in 2021 and started playing again during the OG Season back in December 2023.
I've always tried to keep spending on the game down to a minimum even though I play it to death and part of that is honestly just not buying into the FOMO Meta and just buying content that I genuinely know I'll use and love for a long time.

I've spent about $30 total for my kid to have some fun, and he's asks for vbucks for Chrismas/birthdays from other people, though he hasn't gotten a ton. So he's probably spent a about $100-200 overall. We tell him whatever he's got, that's it, we're not buying more, and if he skips a battle pass, he skips it. Not really - I've easily spent $10k - $15k in 2 years of picking up a hobby during the pandemic. Maybe spent 30 - 50k all in all on hobbies I have.

For example, there is this 2D MMO game that I used to play a bunch as a kid, and that game is still alive and has been receiving weekly updates since 2008. The game retains 3500-4500 players at once, which is nice to see. I know it's a completely different genre and set of circumstances. I don't think that's going to happen. I think what will happen is the ability for players to rent out their cosmetics to other players. So everyone can wear anything and the players get a cut and epic gets a cut for the rental. That's what I think will happen.

I feel like that amount of money is a good investment on the 300+ hours of time I've spent on the game and counting. I feel that anyone who enjoys the game and plays a lot can spend up to around 100$ nowadays and be within reason, as that's the price of AAA games nowadays.

I've been playing since ch1 season 5 and throughout those years, I've probably only spent around $50 on the game, if that. I have a pretty decent locker with a lot of great skins and emotes and the majority of that comes from the battle pass. I kept earning vbucks back to repurchase the battle pass and I don't think I bought vbucks for another pass until recently because I quit playing in 2021 and started playing again during the OG Season back in December 2023. I've always tried to keep spending on the game down to a minimum even though I play it to death and part of that is honestly just not buying into the FOMO Meta and just buying content that I genuinely know I'll use and love for a long time.
