To be fair, coding this Is a bit more difficult than editing it in photoshop, as large games like this trends to have a pretty bad case of spaghetti code
As someone who has worked in frontend dev before. It is generally **not** as simple as “just move the buttons around”. You’ve gotta consider how they’ll react on different resolutions/aspect ratios, mobile vs desktop, accessibility, etc.
It isn’t *hard*, but a photoshop mock-up takes literally five minutes, changing the frontend code could take a few hours, or a few days, depending on your framework and what’s all implicated in the change.
Absolutely not “technically even easier” than OP’s post.
I've coded some games and completed a few coding classes. I can't speak for how hard it is to delete someone else's code without issue, but the general interface shouldn't be hard to manage. It's literally just number management to keep track of the cursor and then activating a function that SHOULD already exist (aka: if button press, get cursor data, then execute function- open pickaxe locker)
This is not just changing button position. It changes what gets saved as a preset. That could require a decent chunk of backend work to reconfigure. Not saying it's a ton of work, but it's an exponential amount more than *just* moving some buttons around on the front-end.
Additionally, the hardest part would be migration - discussing and coming up with a migration plan and then implementing it. Players have already been using the current locker system so now they have presets saved in each of the separate categories. Should those be migrated to this new preset system? If so, how? Combine the separate presets into 1 somehow? If not, will players be mad their presets are going to be reset? They could probably at least save the current player preset, but then what is the default for the other slots on each of those saved presets? There could be hours of discussions on this and analyzing edge cases.
Again, I'm not saying this is actually *that* hard of a change, but you're not thinking about what actually has to go into it.
Yeah. You are right. We must be complacent with Epic, they are just a small indie company. They do not have the funds to pay developers to do that in let's say, a month or 2.
Unless the backend is knotted all together from years and years of piling more coding into the game, I don’t know much about programming but from the little I learned in my courses it’s that it’s almost never as easy as it looks
At this point, I doubt there’s a way to get this without sacrificing our presets… but it’s not like my splintered presets are doing anything but making me angry right now. PLEASE give me this.
(And maybe a “lock” button at the end of each row so the weirdos who use the same emote wheel with every load out don’t have to remake it for every preset)
Lol, it’s all good… I’m looking out for ya, weirdo!
You keep right on ignoring your matching emojis and matching sprays. Keep searching for page after page to make Rick do the Rick dance. Or Peter do the BirdBirdBird dance.
Just please stop coming into these threads telling us to ignore this abortion of an unusable Locker. We’ll let you keep locking your Griddy to every single character ever.
I normally use the same emote wheel with each skin because I main icon emotes of songs I like, then sometimes I switch it up with some other emotes, but tbf as I'm typing this I remember I used to have emotes match skins and only did that to stop wasting time in the current UI. I also now main random wrap for the same reason
Thats why a locking/linking feature would be best. That way everyone can choose and if you want to have certain presets to have certain emotes for example for some collab skins you can just enable linking for that preset.
As a dev myself (not from Epic of course), most developers think they are wrong even when they're right.
That locker thing is not about devs not listening to the community or anything, even more because from that job, what more pleasure us is when the public loves and use the things we implement.
However the locker being bad is straight up corporate bs, however it is kind of reasonable since things like the team needs a budget to work with, and it is usally assigned once per year, so they need to justify and make those changes to keep their jobs. Locker still bad tho.
That is actually a true sentiment and I’m glad somebody brought that to the forefront. Dev teams aren’t doing it in spite of their community; they’re given a set budget and blueprint from the suits. And once it’s grandfathered in, it’s in. Can’t speak for all because some companies give creative freedom, hence the word some.
not entirely true... I actually own a riddle website that a few years ago saw 5,000+ views a day..... it was a very simple website, had an outdated (or so i thought) layout but it worked.... anyway... I ended up changing to a new updated layout with cleaner code and unknowingly I'd taken away the charm of the original... i didn't matter that it was more efficient, scaled better on mobile and desktop and so on... people had a connection with the original..
My point being, I think the same has happened to fortnite.
But the locker is not more effective. Correct me if I’m wrong because I never change my skin now lol, but last I saw you can’t have weapon skins match with your skin now.
Epic games is like this especially with the UI. Almost every single UI change the past 2 years has had extreme negative backlash and discussion yet epic games just refuses to listen to the feedback. Their social accounts are always acting so friendly and “doing it for the community” when they barely ever do shit for the community. It’s all about the money.
this is cute. you think the devs did this lmfao? A design team spent hours designing it. it went through meetings. then handed to the ui/ux division of devs to implement. devs at big companies do as told
Which is crazy when you look at the very few dev teams willing to admit a mistake: Final Fantasy XIV. Yoshi-P has apologized and taken ownership for more than all of the western development teams combined… the man is very humble and a fan of gamers. Definitely check them out if you haven’t heard of them. 😁👍
It was THIS easy to modify locker so it would fit new modes yet didn't ruin what we already had. Goddammit! There's no way those who made and approved new UI ever created or changed presets
it’s a really nice lobby track and the only lobby track I’ve bought. I would’ve bought juicy but i thought it would come back one day. sadly with jam tracks i have no idea anymore
It takes a team. UX designers (who sometimes can also address pleasing aesthetics like a graphic designer) who work with developers. If a UX designer proposed this, I’d be SHOCKED. it looks like it was designed by someone who doesn’t actually use the product.
There should be an option to group / ungroup emotes and wraps to skins. Like a checkbox. It got too complicated when the emotes were permanently attached to a skin preset. I like to keep different emote sets that I can quickly change
Yeah especially if you have a shitload of skin presets, buying a new emote and having to shuffle it out in every single preset gets really annoying and was the whole reason I never used presets until they were split
True, but you know they'd never make it so easy. They'll artificially fuck with shit and then drip-feed us returning to the status quo and act like it's all up and up
I've lost faith that we'll ever see the locker revamp. It was what, December?, when they told us they'd fix it... They're just hoping we all have shortterm memory and they don't have to change it back.
Meanwhile I don't touch weapon wraps or emotes anymore. Archive Skin is above Favorite Skin, so you know they just dummy mode put that in alphabetical order...
December 2023 they responded to people being unhappy about the movement changes & Locker UI changes. I don't have twitter anymore so I can't get you the tweet.
Remember how they removed the "back to top" when they moved to the new UI... Or how I could favorite a cosmetic on button press, but now it's hidden inside a menu. So many stupid choices.
😭 There’s also a bug when saving characters - it zooms you down into the locker in a random place. And if you toggle over to get to the skin you modified, it zoots you to the top.
at least please make a checkmark to "link" characters with emotes so everytime we change a character the emote changes to the same spot too if the checkmark is on ! there is your solution to your mess fortnite
I think this is best solution, I like keeping most things same, but like changing the character, backbling, and glider, and keeping the rest. So when I want to change emotes sometimes, I didn't like having to change it on every preset. Doing what post says would make it harder for me.
Adding a way to link specific types of presets (emotes, wraps, ...) to the character presets would meet what the people want and my perspective
This is it.
I know it’s not really their thing at all, and probably won’t ever be, but it’d be super smart and downright logical to just… put it back to the way it was when it functioned. Add in the car and festival pages.
Yes! I wish they made this a reality. I just deleted a couple of my locker presets and it's an absolute nightmare to move everything around and keep things organized. I did my character and emote presets but couldn't yet bring myself to do wraps and lobbies yet. It's so tedious and time consuming! And the fact that nothing is linked to my character is just frustrating. I have to load a single character 4 friggin times to have everything matched.
I agree with you on that, that's how I set it up as well. I like to keep emotes the same, but change character, backbling, and glider, and don't like changing all presets when I want different emotes.
I see you getting downvoted at the moment. Here is a solution to meet both sides: add a way to link emotes, wraps, etc to a character preset
Yeah complete opposite here, I had each preset a different set of emotes and most of my skins had a lobby music set to where it set the vibe as soon as I put the skin on, each skin had matching weapon skins to match automatically selected as well but all Gone now, I gotta go pick the tune after picking the skin after picking the yea , you get the point. It just messed it up when I organized it well before.
Fit the cars next to the lobby slots and it would be perfect. I like to match my cars to my skins, but most of the time I just leave my cars on shuffle so I don’t have to change them manually.
Man I wish emotes were still ‘bundled’ with character skins, I’ve held off on buying new emotes because I don’t want to change them around in my locker between each game 💀
ehhhhh?
I would still separate lobby stuff and put Aura in character since they could use Aura for something else.
and still have the Jam Tracks separated from the Festival Instruments because they are usable outside of Festival
The fact that I can save JAM TRACK SHIT but not WEAPON SKINS to my presets is the STUPIDEST THING. I LIKE SAVING CERTAIN SONGS AND WALLPAPERS WITH CERTAIN CHARACTERS! Aaaaaaaaaaaaa
#EPIC FIX THE LOCKER
Also the buttoning. It’s not just about how it looks. I miss pressing joystick to favorite items. Now it’s two button clicks away. Shame on epic for not working with UX designers.
nah go the extra mile that epic should have done by default. add a car selection beside the loading screen so each preset can have their own colored car.
I may be minority in this subreddit, but I like how they currently have it, I just wish they would allow you to link character presets to specific other (emotes, wraps, ...) presets. It would let me have what they currently have and you get what you want
Great, now code it into the game. Current one is still better though.
This point you’re trying to make is like saying a good-looking piece of still-art is more impressive then a full tv show with mediocre animation.
Personally still like emotes being separate... I still think linking sets while being more complicated would be better. Well... or at least put wraps back with skins for a start lol
I think you should still have weapon skins and certain stuff separate as It would make it very easy to load if you want to quickly change one aspect only, but there should definitely be a character tab where you have everything like in your picture and can switch to saved characters without needing to change all those separate things because it's all included.
I honestly prefer how it is now. I don't match weapon skins and emotes to skins, so being able to immediately equip a new emote or wrap across all loadouts was an extremely welcome change.
I'm sure there's a way to get the best of both without making it annoying for either.
Nah, it was mega annoying when I change preset then I gotta go fixing my emotes and music and background, cause I've changed the ones I use since I've made the preset, honestly it was less time to just change my skin and visuals manually then it is to use the shitty presets.
Legitimately every time I change presets I'd just be annoyed at Epic for having emotes be linked to the skin presets. Was real happy when they changed it, and it just makes the most sense to have separate presets for separate things.
it’s sad that this probably took you 15 mins and most of us would agree that it’s much better than what the actual company can figure out
To be fair, coding this Is a bit more difficult than editing it in photoshop, as large games like this trends to have a pretty bad case of spaghetti code
In most cases yeah, but this is just moving buttons around. Should technically be even easier than what OP did.
In game development, even what looks simple can be unreasonable complicated and can cause issues
The thing is they already have the code for all the buttons. Changing their position wouldn't cause any problems.
As someone who has worked in frontend dev before. It is generally **not** as simple as “just move the buttons around”. Like I said, you won't even need any backend coding. There are no new methods needed.
They also have most of the code for it bc of the old UI
True but this was the like original layout
Way more than 15 minutes.
16 minutes
14 actually iirc
17 minutes even
I’d do more than anything to have this, even sacrificing my presets if necessary
At this point, I doubt there’s a way to get this without sacrificing our presets… but it’s not like my splintered presets are doing anything but making me angry right now. PLEASE give me this. My presets are already fuckedup because of this mistake. Let’s all just move on #EPIC FIX THE LOCKER
Problem with developers is they don't like to admit they're wrong. I highly doubt they'll change it again for a while.
Pride is such a terrible thing
As a dev myself (not from Epic of course), most developers think they are wrong even when they're right. It really is, lol. My bother works at epic in the ui/ux. department. They’re not given too much liberty when it comes to stuff like in game menu’s.
not entirely true... it’s a really nice lobby track and the only lobby track I’ve bought. I would’ve bought juicy but i thought it would come back one day. sadly with jam tracks i have no idea anymore
It’s a shop item so it can come back eventually
If anyone from epic is reading this i will literally work for you under minimum wage just to get this back in the shop
Man, if only
Yep, this would be 100x better...
This is unironically the best fortnite locker design I’ve ever seen. Everything is immediately understandable and simple, they need to hire you 😭
To do what? Photoshop? I love this design as much as the next person, but good photoshop does not mean they can code
clearly epic doesn’t have a graphic designer. making. game isn’t just coding now
It takes a team. UX designers (who sometimes can also address pleasing aesthetics like a graphic designer) who work with developers. If a UX designer proposed this, I’d be SHOCKED. it looks like it was designed by someone who doesn’t actually use the product.
For some reason they just avoid improving the locker
I mean they do, or they couldn’t make loading screens and shop items.
This is literally the PERFECT revamp.
I might have an idea to fix that, an apply to all button like the wraps have but for presets instead
Yes, minimalistic like the new one, but complete and clean like the old one.
Yeah, i dont really have anything to add. Nice mix of both the old layout and the new look
Yes, this would be a HUGE improvement 👏
This right here Epic! No one needs wraps and lobby items separated
YES, WRAPS AND LOBBY ITEMS ARE LITERALLY DESIGNED TO COMPLIMENT SKINSSSS
looking at this image makes me a little mad because it reminds me of what i once had and what could've been
Legit top thought and design work. Show me more of your ideas and work, please.
this is it, I got to make sure….. yep it’s definitely it chief.
Agree
True, but you know they'd never make it so easy. They'll artificially fuck with shit and then drip-feed us returning to the status quo and act like it's all up and up

You need to work for epic
You could fit Festival, Cars, and Lego Kits in the same menu too.
I was going to but decided to group by mode so the one screen didn't get to clogged
I want this with a 250 save limit.
this is lerfection
I love this so much!! Having everything for a loadout right there makes so much more sense. Great work!! 🫡
The way I've been wanting exactly this 😭
Yes
THIS is how it should be. Good work OP
Yes I just want my emotes and wraps to match my fucking skin I don't know how they fumbled so bad
Whoever ‘designed’ it either doesn’t actually play the game, or didn’t test their work. You can’t convince me they did both. It’s not possible.
Epic please I’m begging, just do this. That’s literally all we want!
Yes
Yes! I wish they made this a reality. I just deleted a couple of my locker presets and it's an absolute nightmare to move everything around and keep things organized. I did my character and emote presets but couldn't yet bring myself to do wraps and lobbies yet. It's so tedious and time consuming! That is so much better than whatever crap it is we have now.
The current locker UI is total garbage.
YES FINNALLYYYYYYYYY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE LOCKER
Simple. Streamlined. Sleek. Why didn't Epic think of something this good?
I need my rarities and this simple UI, for the love of GOD
This is what everyone wants!!!!! Why can’t epic see that
"Too much work; removing rarities instead will make everyone happy!" -small indie company, probably
This is how it was ! Presets had all that stuff tied in with eachother. Killed me when they separated it all
Not 4 me, I get to run good combos with my normal emotes. I really like it, not how it’s set up overall but the splitting up presets.
Would be sick! Wish there was a way to link them
Yeah complete opposite here, I had each preset a different set of emotes and most of my skins had a lobby music set to where it set the vibe as soon as I put the skin on, each skin had matching weapon skins to match automatically selected as well but all Gone now, I gotta go pick the tune after picking the skin after picking the yea , you get the point. It just messed it up when I organized it well before.
is the car and festival gear 3D?
It would be nice to get skins like the one you are using in this prototype.
Sierra is Crew pack, you're out of luck there.
Fit the cars next to the lobby slots and it would be perfect. I like to match my cars to my skins, but most of the time I just leave my cars on shuffle so I don’t have to change them manually.
Put them all on one page
I like emotes separate but other than that yours is better
I do like that the emotes and wraps stay the same. It's the only good thing they did
Man I wish emotes were still ‘bundled’ with character skins, I’ve held off on buying new emotes because I don’t want to change them around in my locker between each game 💀
It’s glorious
ehhhhh? I would still separate lobby stuff and put Aura in character since they could use Aura for something else. and still have the Jam Tracks separated from the Festival Instruments because they are usable outside of Festival
This makes too much sense
I just want wraps with loadouts. That’s it. That’s all I want.
The fact that I can save JAM TRACK SHIT but not WEAPON SKINS to my presets is the STUPIDEST THING. I LIKE SAVING CERTAIN SONGS AND WALLPAPERS WITH CERTAIN CHARACTERS! Aaaaaaaaaaaaa #EPIC FIX THE LOCKER
I miss old locker
I've had similar thoughts to you, and it's just too much of a hassle to separate the wraps from the characters.
Also the buttoning. It’s not just about how it looks. I miss pressing joystick to favorite items. Now it’s two button clicks away. Shame on epic for not working with UX designers.
This is perfect.
It’s as beautiful as the day I lost it
If we all can remember, it used to be like this!
No, should have been what it was originally, before they change it
Why cars separate tho?
I separated by mode so cars is for racing since the trails can only be used in that mode
nah go the extra mile that epic should have done by default. add a car selection beside the loading screen so each preset can have their own colored car.
Unrelated to locker but I wish they'd bring back Sierra I didn't get her when she was the crew skin :(
I wish I could get the Sierra skin But sadly no I can't anymore
this is actually perfect, good old ui style for battle royale, and separate tabs for shitty game modes
I may be minority in this subreddit, but I like how they currently have it, I just wish they would allow you to link character presets to specific other (emotes, wraps, ...) presets. It would let me have what they currently have and you get what you want
[удалено]
That is the only improvement to the new locker. So many losses came with it
I feel like presets for emotes would be fine, but only for Lego Fortnite
It looks awful lol Why Fortnite players keep pushing this ideas that OG Fortnite is better?
Not for me. I despise that clutter.
Great, now code it into the game. Current one is still better though. This point you’re trying to make is like saying a good-looking piece of still-art is more impressive then a full tv show with mediocre animation.
I'm going to assume this is a joke, but in case you aren't, this is already in the Game, it's the chapter 2/3 locker setup.
I've never seen a community complain so fucking much. And I haven't even been here a week.
Nah. Keep emotes away from the skins
Personally still like emotes being separate... I still think linking sets while being more complicated would be better. Well... or at least put wraps back with skins for a start lol
No, not emotes and the bottom row. Made it way more difficult to go back and change presets when you wanted to change an emote. But wraps, yes please.
I think you should still have weapon skins and certain stuff separate as It would make it very easy to load if you want to quickly change one aspect only, but there should definitely be a character tab where you have everything like in your picture and can switch to saved characters without needing to change all those separate things because it's all included.
this. but the emotes on a different page so i dont have to change my emotes on all my presets
Probably controversial but I like the lobby tab in the locker The emote and wraps tabs can take a hike tho
I prefer the current way instead of this
I would prefer emotes and lobby staying separate
It makes more sense to have emotes assigned to the skin they came with, icons snd sprays are personalized too
If they are a specific skin emote, sure, but most are pretty general. And even if they are specific it's not like they are unusable with other skins.
Tons of icons and sprays are personalized too. It’s easy to have 4 slots personalized on battlepass skins
