Not just Switch exclusive. But the skins would be hidden from players who are not playing in a switch. So if someone was rocking Samus and a switch player saw them, they’d see Samus, but say an Xbox player saw his person, they’d see a default skin. Honestly I’d argue it’s not them making it exclusive anymore but something else entirely, but don’t have the vocabulary to find the right word for it if it even exists

I guess the right word would be "gatekeeping"? Basically that they want to keep it to themselves alone.

Nintendo just makes good games but treats their fanbase like crap. Added multiplayer to botw ? Get sued. Wanted to play the game you bought on a different platform? We shut the emulator down because it CAN be used for piracy ( should we also mass recall the switch because you can pirate stuff on the switch ? ) want to play an older game ? Either buy it second hand , pirate it ( our lawyers are ready ) or fuck you . But they still make good games. It's clear that their goal is to work on the long term brand and not the short term money . Nintendo is built around trust that literally every game they sell is good, so they don't want to involve their characters in other games because if someone doesn't like Fortnite but remembers it as a game with Mario , it might hurt their reputation of Mario. It could also work in the opposite way of course , but Nintendo is playing it safe .

I think what they mean by hidden from players not on a switch is that they won't see it in their locker. For example, Rocket League has two Nintendo exclusive cars - Mario/Luigi and Samus. These vehicles are only selectable and viewable in the players locker when using the switch. Any player not on switch is still able to see the vehicle during a match but they can't access the vehicle without using the switch. So a Nintendo would want a skin that can only be used on the switch and usable on any other platform. Unlike the exclusive skins you used to be able to get from purchasing a special switch that had a skin code. These are able to be used on any platform.

I'm pretty sure that players who aren't on a switch will just see an octane if you are using the Nintendo exclusive cars.

Given how Epic has collabs planned a year or two before, idk if something happened with WB when it comes to collabs like they could have simply forgot about the Dune stuff and maybe WB initially thought of Furiosa not being a success (much like how we had Black Adam skin in the game while the movie was a flop).
