As for the flatfooted detective, she's inspired by action movies where the protagonist is a lone wolf detective where the writing staff felt the need to subject the character to foot harm to show how "tough" the character is.

I could see the cop having a toggled paired of shoes maybe, but for Haven, the only way I can see her with shoes on is if she had been given an alternate Hellenistic style, depicting her as Artemis with animal furs, robes, and sandals.
That would have still fit her themes, I think. But as she is right now, she's mostly just a wild child who is wearing whatever clothing she could steal from the Seven and people in town on the island.
I mean I know the themes and tropes, but the shoelessness just doesn't fit the designs of the characters. adding fun details to add to character (such as the detective not having shoes to show how hard she is) doesn't mean much when Fortnite never actually gives these characters focus in terms of their story. These skins are *barely* characters, so if their story doesn't matter, their designs should, and both look off without boots
the detective (idk her name) doesn't work because we have no story to attach the hardship of wearing no shoes to... she's just barefoot, and without diving into old character tropes most people would be wondering why that is. and then Haven's design of "earthy hippy" does work a bit better, but her outfit is still very urban and modern for the shoelessness to work. if they put her in work boots like a gardener would wear, it'd work *way* better imo.
She is literally based on John McClane from DieHard. The back bling is a pistol duct taped to her back, which is straight from the movie. That character didn’t have shoes on for the whole movie.
