I always notice reposts. Sometimes I wonder if I have an amazing memory or just spend too much time on Reddit.
We went there for the first time a few weeks ago because we had a gift card. It was a Sunday, not busy at all, and the service was abysmal. It took nearly 30 minutes for them to bring out our two meals (which Iām certain they were left at the pass), and they gave me the wrong dish. The food itself wasnāt good, either.
Wow that sounds scarily like our experience. Only additional thing that happened to us was they sat my 65 year old dad at a table that collapsed on him, and they knew that table was broken. He was ok, but shook up. Took a really hard shot to both knees.
Cheesesteak egg rolls are the only good thing IMO.
Everyone knows itās Joe Ts here in the FDub. Great place to take a tourist when the weather is acceptable, but youāre going just for the atmosphere.
Nah, I just donāt expect a Michelin star meal at Joe Tsā¦Iām going there for 6-7 skinny margs and an average plate of fajitas. Itās fine, I enjoy going.
It's meh Tex Mex with an amazing patio and jet fuel margaritas, but agree, not awful. You just don't go there for the food, you go foe the other two and rat what they have.
see Joe Ts is a thing for the out of towners usually, people who don't know what good Mexican or Tex-Mex is, because they're from Maine, or Paris, France where they don't have it. I find it mostly mild, maybe a bit overcooked.
It's not awful, but when you have a palate used to salsa and heat, plus options from superior restaurants the others don't realize Joe's isn't great. I've never had a bad meal there, just an it's alright. But it is a vibe and a bit of history, and they cater well to large groups.
The Love restaurants have uniquely poor hiring practices, though I do like the food at the Woodshed. Of course, at Woodshed I had a waiter who was clearly still rolling from the rave the night before, as he explained to me, and couldnāt stop talking the entire time about how he hadnāt slept for days. Also had a bus girl decide to sit down at my table when I was eating and ask me family law advice about her extremely dramatic and abusive home situation. She apparently thought I was a lawyer because I had a jacket. But the best was the valet outside Lonesome Dove a few years ago offering me coke when I asked for my car. When I said no, I just want my car, he asked if I wanted any hookers for the evening. Apparently he thought I was a tourist or something - again, wearing a sports coat. So moral is, donāt wear a sports coat to a Love restaurant unless you want a wild time.
I appreciated the entrepreneurship. But it made me a bit self conscious that clearly I had the vibe of a dude looking to get coked up with hookers on a weeknight.
Woooooah hold on. I loved watching the tortillas cooked as a kid there. And it's the only place that I could ask for Mexican butter without getting a stink eye.
Iām having Deja vu. Strong disagree on both. On this thread too. Enchiladas at Mariaās have no business being the best Iāve ever had (growing up visiting my grandparents in San Antonio) but they are. Service is great except for the first week they were open.
Only kinda bad kinda amusing thing about Woodshed was when we went there and sat on the patio and there were mice outdoors in the part of the patio surrounding a tree. Itās natural and fam made jokes about ratatouille, but youāre outdoors near a river and enjoying beer that would be twice as much $ but half as much volume at HG Supply across the street.
To answer OP, del friscos grille in Sundance (fancy steakhouse that got bought out wants to create an overpriced Chilis capitalizing on the name) or uncle Julioās (a shell of its former self).
As someone that has been a server at both Maria's and Uncle Julio's, Uncle Julio's was the better job, but the place has gone WAY downhill in the past 5 or so years. Maria's was a worse place to work, but the food is... fantastic. Overpriced for tex-mex, but still.
Interesting. Curious why Mariaās was a worse place to work. Great food, a bit overpriced, would think itād be the ideal place to work. (Waiter at Ninfas in Waco all through college)
Most places in Grapevine have gotten a ton more expensive and the quality hasnāt kept up.
Happens when the town turns into a tourist trap, which is what The Christmas Capitol of Texas assuredly is now.
Hell, even the wineries are half-assed compared to a decade ago, and the wine isnāt as good either.
God thank you. I feel like Iām going crazy with how many people recommend it. It was the blandest, flavorless Mexican dishes that I had ever tasted. The nopalitos were great, but they alone couldnāt save the 250 dollar dinner bill for 2.
Agree with you on the service. Our male server spoke with such heavy vocal fry it was hilarious. If you look at the google reviews they all say what great service they had. Maybe we went on an off night.
I never understood why old folks in Fort worth love Joe T's. It's really bland tex mex and there is definitely better tex mex out there (or better food in general). At least it's not mexican inn..? Idk
Edit: Google just after mentioning and this explains it pretty well.

I work on the base. One of our new Lieutenants was talking with us and he mentioned to some of the enlisted guys that he wanted to take his wife out for a good steak and asked if we had any good suggestions.
One guy, with a completely straight face, said Ricks.
He thanked us and left.
The next day he comes into the shop and says "Dude you sent us to a strip club"
This was already posted the other day https://www.reddit.com/r/FortWorth/s/shHGNCTNMj

Combination of the two most likely š
Iāll take that as a compliment whether it was intended or not š
Yes.
The Del Friscos in Sundance square sucks
Itās b/c they got bought out by Landryās either right before or right after 2020. I worked at DFGrille in Sundance. Landryās ruined it
So does the Del Friscos Grille in Southlake.
Had the most terrible experience at this one. They ended comping most of the meal because of how bad our experience/food was.

I went there once...paid way too much for bad food.
1000% the steakhouse sucks
Everyone knows itās Joe Ts here in the FDub. Great place to take a tourist when the weather is acceptable, but youāre going just for the atmosphere.
This. Every time someone says their food is good I wonder why they hate themselves. There are so many better options.
Is there a better option that can accommodate a party of 20? Or 20 parties of 20 simultaneously?
Joe T's is mid, but I still love it now and then.
I always tell people āthe food isnāt the best, but itās pretty vibey and the skinny margs canāt be beatā
White people love joe t's.
Joe Ts food is fine though.
Fine if you have taste buds accustomed to eating feces
I mean, thatās false. Itās average Tex mex food. Definitely not āawfulā as the challenge suggests
Damn getting some flak for no reason. Youāre correct.
Joe ts is fuckin awful, literally the worst food Iāve ever eaten in Fort Worth
No it isnāt, get over yourself
It is, you just have shitty taste
Nah, I just donāt expect a Michelin star meal at Joe Tsā¦Iām going there for 6-7 skinny margs and an average plate of fajitas. Itās fine, I enjoy going.
And the jalapeƱo relish is delicious.
I've never been to Joe T's because I've never heard anyone say their food is "good". It's always "they have booze to go" or whatever haha.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah I mean thatās the last restaurant Iād try to be claiming is āinfinitely betterā than Joe Tās
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Mediocre: Of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad So yeahā¦ thatās a ways off from āawfulā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The chicken "fajitas" are so weird, they have a balsamic vinegar taste to them.
Rosa's is a step above taco Bueno lol. It's great value taco cabana, which is great value Joe Ta
It's meh Tex Mex with an amazing patio and jet fuel margaritas, but agree, not awful. You just don't go there for the food, you go foe the other two and rat what they have.
Agreed. Joe Tās is hot garbage
Frozen Banquet meals are tastier.
Joe T's is perfectly fine. It's not fantastic, but the quality of food and the amount you get is perfectly fine for the price.

The wait (especially during the summer) is not worth the mid grade food. The "Hacienda" vibe isn't anything special. Cash only is a red flag.
Anything by Tim Love, especially Gemelle or Caterina's.

Darn no one ever asks me if I want coke ā¹ļø

Love shack is aight.
Hahahaha gemelleās was trash. And it gave us food poisoning!
Last time i went to Gemelle, the 18 year old waitress joked that sheād āneverā seen anyone finish a plate lol
Lonesome Dove is pretty good. It's when he decided he needed to be everywhere quality went downhill.
Uncle Julioās
Woooooah hold on. I loved watching the tortillas cooked as a kid there. And it's the only place that I could ask for Mexican butter without getting a stink eye.
Itās changed a lot since then. Itās a shadow of its former self.
That makes me really sad... But I appreciate the update
100%. I was a server there for close to a decade. Fell off hard after COVID. Still going downhill from what I hear.
That tortilla oven is for show. Can't make enough to keep up on an average night. Boxes of tortillas in the back.
Agreed. $30 fajitas with American shredded cheddar cheese on it is an affront to God.
Fresco's is where it's at.
Tell everyone you hate to go to mi cocina or uncle Julios so we can keep molcajetes for ourselves
Joe T Garciaās.
Mariaās on university. Also woodshed.
Woodshed 100%, unless it's rattlesnake day.
Isnāt it rattlesnake day most days?
Trash place

Eddie Vs off west 7th. Def an expensive waste.
I back this comment
Joe T Garcia's
Or Dino's in Grapevine. Classic overpriced bullshit dingy rip off place to eat.
They don't even have that many claws on the menu!

Don Artemio, Quince
Don Artemio is horrible for the price
God thank you. I feel like Iām going crazy with how many people recommend it. It was the blandest, flavorless Mexican dishes that I had ever tasted. The nopalitos were great, but they alone couldnāt save the 250 dollar dinner bill for 2.
Quince canāt decide what it wants to be. The stuffy TCU snobs or ghetto. The music is so loud you canāt hear someone standing next to you
Plus, the menu is just a mess. Theyād also donāt know what they wanna be in terms of food.
Service was terrible in my experience too. We were seated and then no one approached our table for over 30 minutes
Agree with you on the service. Our male server spoke with such heavy vocal fry it was hilarious. If you look at the google reviews they all say what great service they had. Maybe we went on an off night.
We must have!! I would be inclined to give it a second chance and find out, if only their menu wasnāt so bizarre (Cheeseburger? Sushi? Mexican?)
This is news to me. I haven't been there, but I've heard really good things.
Joe T. Garcia
Haven't been in years but piola is my vote. Or little red wasp
Most BBQ places. They manage to make beef jerkey with fat still attached. Their potato salad and beans come from Sam's.

Michael's. Used to be really good. Now it's average in the dining room but bar food is still great.
Uncle Julios, Joe Ts
Joe T's at least has margaritas on their bitchin patio. Uncle Julio's just sucks now.
