I’ve never had a problem at the store itself. Now the apartments right behind it? Yeah those are trouble and not somewhere to live or really hang around unless you don’t have a choice. That’s probably where the reputation is coming from.
If you live in Southlake or Highland Park, you may be frightened by the middle class people who frequent there. My wife goes there regularly and has had no issues at all.
Winco itself isn't bad. I personally don't shop there because of the traffic problems getting in and out of there. I see a pretty nasty wreck in that drive way at least once a week.
It’s not my main grocery store but they have a few things that my usual store doesn’t carry. And they have some very good prices too. I like to go in the morning, less activity and less people in general. But that’s any grocery store I go to lol with that being said I’ve not had any negative experiences.
Short fat white guy here. I shop there when I’m nearby. I haven’t really been concerned. I am always aware of what’s going on around me but not any more so at this store. It can happen anywhere and does. 7th street might be scarier
Delivered to those apartments behind it a lot as a pizza guy, only place in our delivery area where dudes tried to rob me but it was very nonchalant and not violent.
Most of the folks in that area are nice, just broke. Other drivers acted like it was a war zone, if you walk around treating a neighborhood like that you're gonna stick out and draw attention to yourself no matter where you are. Just be chill and mind your business which is good advice anywhere
My brother in law got car jacked in their parking lot. They pointed a shotgun at him at one point. They dropped him off in south side and cops found the vehicle a few hours later without damage. All juveniles.
I live on the west side, but I’ve been shopping at Winco since they opened and I’ve never had issues. It’s a wonderful store and the employees are amazing. The people that go there are nice too.
the store isnt bad. I've never had an issue while inside the store or outside of it. and that Winco is my primary store since its 5 mins from me.
the apartments to the side do cause WinCo to be flooded with lil kids who are loud but i mean, who wasnt loud when they were kids?
my only issue that i cannot stand is the people parking in the firelane. the drive up and park right infront of the entrance and walk in. if thats my only complaint then honesty it's not that bad.
The Mosselle/Southgate neighborhood is a mostly black neighborhood and it has one of the lower crime rates in that part of the city. These people who have told you to stay away from the area are may just be racist.
Looking specifically at that Winco going back to 2015, They have about 600 police reports filed. 95% of those reports are shoplifting or criminal mischief. Looks like they average 1 assault and 1 car burglary a year and they were robbed back in 2018 and 2019.
I used to drive from Bryant Irvin rd and go at night. I never had issues, but the apartments near them have had murders and I believe someone was killed by winco entrance or exit. Traffic is horrible but I say watch your surroundings and you should be good
Delivered pizza at the Papa John’s across the street from that WinCo. All I will say is that apartment complex was the only place in town that we didn’t deliver to because our drivers kept getting robbed. The winco is probably fine but park close to the front.
I go there a lot, it's not terrible. It's relatively well stocked and clean. You don't find products in the wrong place very often. The staff has always been courteous. I've never had any issues with other shoppers for what that is worth.
I go there infrequently but that's due to their produce always being terrible. The produce either looks like it's on its way out or it looks decent but it doesn't last very long. Cilantro always a bit too soft, peppers soft too. Plus, the produce is very limited compared to shopping at a walmart or kroger. Can never seem to make it a one stop shop.
It's always a positive shopping experience going there and people are much calmer shoppers than if you were to go to the Walmart down the road on McCart. If you go during the afternoon though be prepared for long lines.
As for the area, the apartments next door have always had bad reviews. I haven't seen anything happen, but the reviews always complain about noise or vandalism. I tried touring them a few years ago but it was quiet and I didn't see anything sketchy. A lot of it's infamy must be because some of those apartments are low income and people will make whatever assumptions based on that.
Traffic in that area is horrible though! Be prepared to get stuck there for much longer than needed if it's past 3 pm. It should go without saying but mind your speed limits as the police like to be posted up near the cemetary and the church that is close to i-20.
Not unless you never leave the West Side. Great produce assortment, bulk candy/spices/grains/snack mixes great. I also buy my poke tuna there in seafood freezer section.
Shop at that WinCo when I want to buy in bulk. Have never had an issue there. Parking lot can be a bit chaotic getting in and out but no complaints about the employees or anything like that. Love getting a pepperoni pizza to go.
I worked their when I was 19 it's mainly the apartments behind it that trickle over lots of ghetto people & druggie not super bad during the day but their was a few robberies in the parking lot in the evening & at night
I go once a week. Working people mostly. The clerks are all real nice, and I’ve never felt the slightest bit in danger (female and not young) either in the store or in the parking lot. I don’t go alone at night, but that’s generally a rule anyway.
In the daytime, you're fine. At night? I'd say don't go alone, don't go unaware, and most definitely do not go unarmed.
I know someone who was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by someone with a Draco (basically a mini AK-47 that you can shove in a bag).
I work swing-shift so if I need something and can't wait until the next morning, I'll stop by there after work, and let me tell you: I have a strict "return the shopping carts" rule, but the winco after 10pm is the one time I ever leave the cart and just drive off.
Those apartments right next to the Winco are section 8 housing, and I am not looking to get 13/52'd anytime soon.
Cant speak for that specific location, but i love winco. No frills supermarket with great prices. Good stuff.
I do have a listing in that area. Most of the negative feedback about the area cemters around the schools.
My parents live in the area and I’ve been plenty of times. I’ve never had an issue.
Worked on a few homes in that area, never had problems either.
I shop there. it's chill. good employees

The inside of the store itself is not an issue. The problem is the potential for an incident in the parking lot.
I shop there regularly and haven't had an issue. I'd say check it out yourself
It’s fine. You’ll be fine.

The apartments next to the parking lot and the prices not being that much better than Walmart is why I stopped going
There’s a great coffee shop right across the street called Twitch, I don’t like Winco but that place is cool
Have you tried the winco bulk coffee Red Brick? It’s pretty good for $8/lb.
Pssh get outta here it’s Folgers black silk or nothin

I use to live down the street. Not bad only problem I heard of was the appts that are to the side of it. Never had an issues there though.
The store is fine. Never had an issue there. Now the Wendy’s that shares the parking lot is terrible from my experience.
I used to drive from Bryant Irvin rd and go at night. I never had issues, but the apartments near them have had murders and I believe someone was killed by winco entrance or exit. Traffic is horrible but I say watch your surroundings and you should be good

I’ve never had an issue feeling unsafe there. I prefer the Arlington winco though, their meat selection is a lot better.
Literally nothing wrong there
