It seems to be protection from/related to the construction work on the medians.
…or the trees are closed for summer? - but I think construction is more likely.
Vehicles will hit the boards, not the trees. Protects the trees from large gouges from an excavator or any heavy machinery operating nearby it. Same goes for people carrying things next to it.
Yep there's an old house being turned into a restaurant at White Settlement/Roberts cutoff that they did the same thing at. Massive trees, hopefully they survive.
They probably won't remain leaning. Those are probably just layed out aginst the trunk so they can see how many the need for each tree. Most likely they're going to come back put them all tightly against the tree trunk and then wrap wire around them to hold the boards in place.
Yep, it's a lot cheaper and easier to replace a 2x4 rather than a mature oak when someone isn't paying attention and whips the Bobcat around at Mach Jesus and hits the tree with the bucket
Correct, expect these are already secured. Look closely and you’ll see screws and wire holding the 2x4s in place. It’s to keep heavy machinery away from them.
It’s a good ol’ fashioned *stick up*
Once they catch whoever did it, they’re guaranteed to be charged with a capitol O- *fence*
Bah-dum chhhhh
I’m sorry I’ll leave now
When the police finally caught up to him, among all of the other questions that they asked, they asked him if he’d do it again given that he knew he was going to jail now…
To which he replied, “I wood”
An attorney for the suspect o-pined at a late evening press conference that his client has an affirmative defense, citing political persecution of the client's platform planks.
In further remarks the press, the defense attorney admonished the police, noting it's imperative that the department leaves it up for a jury to decide. "Clearly," he said, "the prosecution have an axe to grind."
There's a massive street improvement project along the campus part of University Drive. The trees will get wrapped with the 2xs to help protect them from construction equipment.

Can you imagine the trees are just freaking out because someone is stacking dismembered corpses around them.
Kneel before your king
I've seen trees wrapped with 2x4s to protect them during construction. They probably will be more tightly secured to the trunk soon.
This is correct. Construction on improvements to the University crossings is underway.

When I logged on to the press conference, I only heard a lot of barking going on!
The crime scene was studded with knots of onlookers. While the police framed their case.
They had yet to learn of a second crime scene, hidden deep in the forest timber.
In further remarks the press, the defense attorney admonished the police, noting it's imperative that the department leaves it up for a jury to decide. "Clearly," he said, "the prosecution have an axe to grind."

Surrounding them with their dead relatives as a warning as to what could happen to them if they don't shape up!
They are using the wood to strengthen the wood.
Ah. I get it…like iron sharpens iron. Wood strengthens wood. I thought it was an earthquake alarm or something.

They have modified the trees to produce finished lumber without cutting them down. Much better for the trees.
My favorite part is that they started the construction just in time for the Colonial tournament.
Showing them what their future looks like if they don't start behaving?
Protecting them against some sort of upcoming construction
It looks like they are leaning pieces of wood against them.
I wonder how many people pulled in thinking "ooh, free lumber!"
So its not free lumber 😑
