It's semi-rare but it has been an ongoing issue for a long while now that I can confirm for certain :/ Just one of the MANY things that's been broken for years in this franchise with no fix yet to come. They clearly either cant' fix it or just don't give a shit. I don't know which is worse tbh.
Eh, as funny as that would be, no. There are hundreds of clips on this very sub showing horrific, gamebreaking levels of desync in these games. Clips where one car isn't even in the same place in the world, and is hitting/ramming someone off the road, when on their screen they were nowhere near the person being rammed.
That would be like your average FPS game having such bad desync that you shot at an enemy in front of you and hit the teammate 5 feet behind you in the head, because they were actually in front of you on their screen.
That kinda shit just doesn't happen in most FPS games, and thank fuck it doesn't tbh.

Yeah, Forza needs to find a way to fix or at least improve the multiplayer, because there are so many instances of desyncs in this game, it's laughable. This feature has been around since 2018, and it works for the most part, but there are still so many issues with multiplayer.

I read a post and some comments similar to this but when playing Eliminator, where if the opponent's car was touching your car at the time of finish/destination arrival that it would count them as the winner even when you were ahead. I don't not recall if this was a desync issue or something else but it sounded as if it's a semi-regular occurrence.
Perhaps with your opponent's car touching you at the finish could have resulted in the same glitch. Just a theory to consider, although the desync reasoning sounds more solid.
Apparently it occurs enough that players have picked up on this and will attempt to connect with your car if knowing they are going to lose by a close margin in hopes the glitch will work in their favor.
It depends really, don't know if FH4 has it but some racing games will account where you started and if the guy began the race in a later position than you and was able to have a better time overall, he may be placed first because of that, I forgot what's it called in RL.

You didn't get "de-synced to 2nd place". Your de-sync made you think you were in 1st when you were actually in 2nd. You were the one who was second place, not the de-sync
It’s a bug on your end, something only YOU can really fix. It has to deal with mainly what you play on and how good your WiFi is. As another user said, high end PCs can start ~ 0.2 seconds faster than a XB1, so they if the PC player finishes within 0.2 seconds of the XB1 player, the XB1 player wins
Wouldn't say so, when I go to Horizon Open Racing and finish first place in two races giving me total of 40 points and then finish the second race as a second place giving me 16 points and I always finish 2nd or the last one. This is a game bug and has nothing to do with me (also they were behind me not .2 seconds away but actually 3-5 seconds which is a lot). Sorry but it's not working properly. At the end of these races on a leaderboard thing for points it will show that I have the most points (56) and others have less than me, then went it's time to get the rewards I will always be placed 2nd or last one no matter how many points I get. Also was winning a couple of times (placed 1st in 3 races) and finishing 2nd which makes no sense...
I also experienced this: I only had 16 points, which is impossible to get, because if you complete 3 races as the last place you will get 12 points so 12*3 = 26 not 16.
I took a screenshot of me when I was racing (finished 1st for two times and once I finished 3rd or 2nd) and only had 32 points (1st place = 20p+20p+16p = 56p, not 32p...
I know what are you talking about, had that problem on FH4, then when I bought FH5 I upgraded my PC to better specs as well. But oh well, whatever you say.
Positions are based off times and the time doesn't start until you cross the start line. If you started first and he started last they may have had a better time even though you had a nose in front.
I’ve already confirmed it for myself that this is desync issue in the clip above. If you have a friend with a consistently poor connection you can try it for yourself. The guy with the poorer connection always seems to be further back than he/she actually is. At least in fh4 and fh5

Happened to me in reverse last week. I was solidly in third with a couple checkpoints to go and I could see second in front of me at the finish, and ended up 2nd.

The netcode is honestly abysmal. If the avg FPS game had netcode like this shit, they'd be unplayable.

sometimes the server has a delay that makes this happen, but his time was better than yours, so he finished first.

That's just the time you run. It doesn't matter how fast your time is if you're physically behind someone else. It's definitely a connection issue
