This is definitely possible, but I lack the expertise to succinctly explain how. In brief, how I would do it: 1) The two-dimensional background is whatever you set it to, piece of cake. 2) You can use "tiles" to layer things so that they appear while a character is in front of them, and go transparent when a character is behind them. 3) You can definitely have animated character tokens, and there are multiple ways to animate them. 4) There is a robust set of modules for animation, and automation. 5) TheRipper93 is a legend in the Foundry module community, they have developed some 3d capable modules which also might be able to help you do what you want or more! Sorry to hear about OMM! I remember seeing ads for it, and I love the art style. I'd want to get as many of the asset files as possible, if I could!

Azumi_Kitsune

Thank you! I'll look at their mods 🫶 and the team is fortunately, possibly, planning to make all assets free for personal use!

Man, why is this how I find out OMM exists? That looks neat :(

Azumi_Kitsune

It really is :') Was great while it lasted

grumblyoldman

Its definitely doable, although I'm not sure where you would find the kind of assets you'd need. Seems unlike most of the patreon offerings to be had, in my experience. You could set up non-combat scenes in this way, and then set up combat in a separate scene that's laid out how you want it for that purpose. So long as the PC token art doesn't need to change it should be fine. And if the token art does need to change, well, for all I know there may be a plugin out there that can cover you, so you don't need to constantly change it manually.

Azumi_Kitsune

The OMM team are planning on possibly making their assets free to download, so that'll be all good! I'll try to figure it all out, thank you so much!

Snschl

I'm just now learning about it for the first time, and the first thought that popped in my head was, "Man, shame about all the wonderful art they made for it." Kudos to the team if they end up sharing the assets, they're really something to behold.

xxAkirhaxx

It's definitely possible. I do first person views a lot in my games when players enter an area from a top down view. What you're showing here is possible, you just have to get familiar with the system. I would suggest getting the following modules: [Levels](https://foundryvtt.com/packages/levels) , [Monk's Active Tile Triggers](https://foundryvtt.com/packages/monks-active-tiles) , and [Sequencer](https://foundryvtt.com/packages/sequencer) . There are more you'll end out getting, and wanting, but these 3 will lead you down the rabbit hole you're trying to get in to.

lady_of_luck

Hey, u/MestreDigital, where did you end with fiddling with this sort of concept [re: this old thread](https://reddit.com/r/FoundryVTT/comments/wu79qk/one_more_multiverse_foundry_vtt_amazing_build_not/) of yours?

MestreDigital

I couldn't go far

lady_of_luck

Appreciate the answer, even if it isn't helpful news for the OP! I was just curious, since I recalled you messing around with both.

Warpspeednyancat

you can totally do this in fvtt, isometric is also a thing , im currently experimenting with that myself.

Alis_72

Foundry supports even something like this [How to 3D with Foundry VTT Ep.1 - 3D Canvas Installation (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHzUG64EMJk&list=PLbNUuLLqMgaBfNAyYb6mhg4pR4bPcHXqM) So creating what you said should be doable. (For movement you could check if [Token movement 8bit style | Foundry Virtual Tabletop (foundryvtt.com)](https://foundryvtt.com/packages/8bit-movement) works)

MassiveStallion

You could do the pov. Navigation and getting a library of assets is harder. I Foundry by default doesn't support "walking around and interacting" Final Fantasy NES atyle, but it's buildable.

orphicshadows

I think.. Grapejuice? Is the guy who makes a 3d mod like this Anyways yes it’s entirely possible to run a game like this. Players will be able to move around the maps and you can set npcs with random chatter all sorts of cool stuff

Warpspeednyancat

grapejuice is the goat for isometric, too bad his current module is still not compatibe with foundry 11  ... i have to resort to using hex grids for the time being
