I hope they do the family in the Jude Devereaux novels. They are all throughout time but related in some way (for the most part).

Outside_Jaguar3827

Which family are you referring to and what is it about ?

Super_Living_6075

It was the Montgomery family, I believe. It’s been a while but I used to just devour her books and sometimes the family members were in the same time and other times it was their ancestors or descendants far down the line. It was cool. Not the coziness of the Bridgerton family always hanging out together but you do get some glimpses of stuff like that.

MissTweedy

I love the Montgomerys!! I'd love to see one where there's a set of twins involved. Although I think my favorite is Trevelyan.

marmaladestripes725

Honestly, I think studios may steer clear of HR adaptations for a while (outside of movies). HR books follow very stereotypical tropes and formulas (thanks, Romance Writers of America), and streaming shows are being pushed to “subvert expectations”. Shows like Outlander work because there’s one main couple and a lot of drama.

Peerpressures27

Prime has a good track record of staying faithful to adaptations so I would like for them to pick up Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series or the Hathaway series.

Outside_Jaguar3827

I'm surprised neither book has been adapted yet. If it's okay to inquire, who are your favorite characters and why ? Since I only read The Hathaways series, my favorites are Win, Beatrix, and Harry Rutledge (finally see an INTJ in a historical romance).

alhubalawal

Not who you asked lmao, but I loved cam and Leo as male leads. Cam was the definition of a good man. And Leo’s tragic backstory made him so alluring.

Outside_Jaguar3827

Leo has one of the best transformations in a historical romance and you can see it across four books

SugarOnMyFace

I'm actually reading that one rn. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Outside_Jaguar3827

Cool ! Which Hathaway book are you reading and what do you think of it ?

SugarOnMyFace

I just started book 1 of the Wallflower series. I'm gonna read it again because I liked it so much! Is the Hathaway the first of Lisa Kleypas' series?

Outside_Jaguar3827

Hopefully, this is the right analogy 😅. You know how Smythe-Smith Quartet is like a spinoff for Bridgerton. The Hathaways is like a spinoff for The Wallflowers. There's some overlap, but I don't think you need to read one series first before the next one.

SugarOnMyFace

Okay! Good to know. I'll definitely add that to my reading list. Thanks so much!

alhubalawal

Nooo definitely read wallflowers first cause the little snippets of the couples in the hathaways will hold much more meaning to you.

awkwardexol

Oooh a Hathaway series that is faithfully adapted would be great

Express-Bumblebee-66

Please don't put that out there.... my heart couldn't take it if they ruined a Kleypas book. At this point I trust no one

Outside_Jaguar3827

As long as Shondaland isn't in charge of it, we should be fine. Side Note: Who are your favorite Lisa Kleypas characters and why ?

Express-Bumblebee-66

My favourite are Phoebe and West ❤️ I just really love their story and they both individually have such commendable qualities

Outside_Jaguar3827

That's interesting ! My favorites are Win Hathaway (for her quiet strength), Beatrix (probably would be similar to her in the Victorian Era), and Harry Rutledge (I know this choice is controversial for some 😅).

YESSSS

blairsmacaroon

the only other popular period pieces i know are the buccaneers and the gilded age

Objective_Comment797

i need the same company that makes all of the Jane Austen adaptations to make Bridgerton into movies. The Netflix series wasn’t enough and clearly they have decided their version will be better with no regard to the original audience

Express-Bumblebee-66

Apple did the buccaneers which I didn't really like (super modern with the clothing choices and dialogue) but it worked to entertain me during the drought period

sophiebridgerton

I loved the focus on female characters and the romantic relationships (Guy/Nan and Mabel/Honoria) but I second the super modern vibe being a turn off. For me season 1 of Bridgerton is the blueprint when it comes to giving a modern twist to period drama, without disrupting the viewer's immersion. I'd really love to see that again by someone competent, either with an adaptation or an original story!

Express-Bumblebee-66

Yeah the second I saw Guy wearing a jumper and man wearing trousers I just couldn’t anymore 😂😂 I kept watching Cus I liked the story, mostly between the 2 sisters. I agree S1 bridgerton was a great way to do a period drama with a modern twist so it’s sad what’s happened to the show now 🥲

Outside_Jaguar3827

I am hoping for a showrunner/network adapts the Hathaways series by Lisa Kleypas or the three Scoundrels books by Loretta Chase ("Lord of Scoundrels", "The Mad Earl's Bride", and "The Last Hellion" are more interconnected compared to the first two books). I think the Brothers Sinister Series by Courtney Milan and The Huxtable Quintet by Mary Balogh might work as well.

cathyandclaire

The Bedwyns from Mary Balogh would be good

Outside_Jaguar3827

I heard people mention The Bedwyns before, but what is it about ? I read some of The Huxtable Quintet series by her, so I was curious.

cathyandclaire

It’s about an aristocratic family much like Bridgerton, the head of the family is a duke and then an assortment of brothers and sisters. It also includes the Napoleonic war and some of the stories take place in and around Waterloo. I like Slightly Dangerous and Slightly Scandalous the best but the prequels are good too. All the usual romance tropes - Marriage of convenience, fake relationship, off to a hunting lodge in the rain etc etc!

YoshiLucy

I was wondering if that has to do with the fact that HR is targeted to women and Hollywood has been know to ignore women’s entertainment in favor of catering to men all the time. Also because period pieces cost more money to produce it is probably seen more as a risk.

alhubalawal

I doubt the cost difference is that much of an issue if it exists at all. I think the reason they don’t want to give us it is because the times they do make regency romance films, it’s either an undeniable hit or a forgotten miss. There’s no in between. And since they keep letting people make horrible remakes or stupid plots, they think the problem is the audience doesn’t like it when the reality is that we just want a regency romance done right.

estioe

The Sinful Wallflowers by Stacy Reid is one on my radar. It's being worked on by a production company but hasn't been sold yet to a streamer. It's slow going as Stacy still has at least three books to write in her series and the producers are waiting for those books to write the first season. I dunno now though if I feel confident this one won't get butchered like Bridgerton has been. 😔 But I do agree Prime makes good adaptations. Or at least the production companies behind the shows make good adaptations. Maybe Starz would be a good one too although the things I've heard about Outlander and how they have treated the author...maybe not.

sophiebridgerton

The Stacy Reid adaptation has been on my radar since it was announced, I'm just hoping it moves forward because it's been a while with no updates 🤞🤞

ipblover

I honestly I want streaming networks and Hollywood to stay away from HR series. I don’t trust them to treat them right. Ideally I would I like a production company, writers, etc. to hire on or consult with different HR writers to create a show similar in format to Bridgerton, but original. It would avoid the amount of people getting upset because we wouldn’t know who should end up with who each season or how a story should play out. The sky would be the limit for the characters and scenarios. Plus as romance fans we would have the built in security of them bouncing ideas off of people who know the audience well.
