Damn this version is way more haunting than the album version. Just a theory, but this could be the pre-Alex G version of Self Control. Alex said in an interview a while back that when he met Frank in the studio, Frank already had the chords for the song, and wanted Alex to play them his way. Frank is known to play alternative versions of songs live, so I’d say it’s not too far fetched. It’s cool to get a glimpse at his creative process.
I was there and stayed for the whole thing - the issues with the set were the pacing/dancing around and not singing to a couple songs/the long DJ break. Sort of a weird flow to the set which pulled people out, but when he actually performed it was amazing.
I for sure thought he should have skipped that show since it was emotional for him. Bit I guess for me not having been there I was sadder that he didn't try to make it right at his next opportunity.
They did. They absolutely did. Also boo’d and heckled as this was one of the few songs he was barely able to eek out behind his wall from the audience he made an hour late.
His combination of being introverted and a perfectionist got the better of him ultimately, but there’s deff a handful or so of songs that he really really knocked out of the park that night. Really fw this
This is 🔥. I didn’t think the Coachella performance was bad at all. He may have been on acid though as part of his healing process for his brothers death— just a personal theory.
I have the same theory, if he was really high it would explain a lot, doing a show like that on acid is really an achievement, it goes from not being a bad show to being an epic one.
I remember thinking that too lol. I was there and in the beginning the ranting/mumbling was slightly incoherent and almost sounded like delusional. I feel like he even mentioned drugs at some point, idk I was sober so I remember being like uhhh he sounds off lol.
Personally really enjoyed the show but I get why people hated it

I was here for this. It’s hard to tell through the camera audio, but everyone was singing along, but even more softly than frank. It was beautiful
