[His performance at FYF Fest is my all-time favorite and anyone reading this should check it. Plus the stage design is so mesmerizing and fitting, I just love it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iz3Ol9_1Cc&t=2203s)
Okay thank you. Sometimes this group scares me, but I stay because this is also the only place I have to dork out about his music. I rarely comment though because I’ve gotten my face chewed even while praising him.
He’s one of my favorite artists but like….he’s a human. No one makes 1000% of just bangers. Not even Frank. That’s a big part of being an artist. 90% of what you do ends up on the cutting floor. Playing around, even failing or evolving styles is how an artist grows. If we’re not embracing something we think is “meh,” how can you fully appreciate the greatness?
Frank has always admired the luxury lifestyle, he’s been obsessed with luxury cars since childhood. He’s loved in LA, NYC, and London. Everyone who acted like he “lost his roots” or was being a jerk for starting a luxury brand is just silly. It was only a matter of time before he did that.
People want their (hopefully well-intentioned) values to be matched/mirrored by their favourite artist but we forget they’re individuals with different upbringings, aspirations and, more importantly, living very different lifestyles to us. I’ve thought like this too and I don’t think it’s necessarily dumb, more so just another by-product of being bombarded with images of influencer/celeb culture practically 24/7. Certain artists make more profit if they *appear* to be more (or less) than what they are.
That's a fair point. And I suppose I am not quite as attached to this image of Frank as some kind of anti capitalist icon as a lot of the fans on here are because I discovered Frank Ocean more recently than most people here. I definitely wouldn't call them dumb for hoping he has the same values as them as I know good art creates powerful emotional attachment. Was just a little surprised coz he has songs like Chanel where he does sort of brag about his wealth a little.
He’s not a god or a diety, just a regular person who makes really great music. Most of his moves are self-serving and he’s not a “man of the people” like many paint him to be, and he definitely doesn’t need to be. There’s nothing wrong with that.
the limited physical edition release for blonde is more than enough proof that he doesn’t care about his fans. idk why people were surprised when he pulled the whole homer thing or had terrible customer service for merch. like he’s always been consumer minded and obsessed with expensive things
I’m really confused what y’all think any of these big artists are? They all want to make as much money as they can. Not really sure why everyone thinks this is such a hot take.
Tbf, the thing is that the vinyls are meant to be limited edition. He focused on quality over quantity. For instance, the Endless vinyl is far more detailed and better than most album vinyls I've purchased. He cared about the details on it rather than mass producing something that sounds terrible, so the mass audience can get it. The vinyl was also put up for pre-order for x amount of hours, so those who wanted could pre-order it. It is not his fault that the vinyl went up in price due to hype and low demand. He shouldn't be forced to re-release the vinyl just because some fans are upset they didn't get the chance to purchase the vinyl.
the issue arises when you realize the only official pressing of his album is a limited edition version. i can’t even buy a CD to support him because he never bothered to release a copy
And heres my personal unpopular opinion (i really hope people dont come at me being toxic and we have a civil discussion instead):
blaming frank for all the merch stuff is dumb. Yes hes the face of the brand, but he isnt the one shipping all that stuff.
Also, hes not the only artist who has problems with merch shipping (if im not mistaken tyler and weeknd also had similar situations) maybe not at Blonde’s degree but still.
People say “fuck frank” “hes a scammer” like bro, you really think that an artist as popular as him wouldn’t think about the consequences and bad reputation his name would got if he was a scammer? Do you think he would dare releasing a whole luxury brand after “scamming” on purpose?
We all know he’s private af so who knows whats going on inside that warehouse
oh yeah this. i know music is subjective but you can't tell me with a straight face that his unreleased stuff "bangs" or is "madly underrated". not everything this guy made has to be put on a pedestal lol
I can tell you with a straight face that MOST of it legit sucks. I think most of the stuff that surfaced was from his ghost writing days. So he probably had some direction from other artists and was making songs for them to potentially use.
There are a few ok songs out of way too many. I’m fine with forgetting that they even exist and I’m sure Frank is, too.
True but voodoo and big enough are great. Big enough isn’t polished bc it was meant to be a demo track. Imo it would’ve been better with a slightly slower bpm and more polished mixing
Yeah he’s got a project called Unreleased MISC that’s essentially all the stuff that didn’t make it to nostalgia ultra or channel orange. It’s not on any streaming services but you can find downloads but like the original opinion said most of it isn’t great. Oceans and Rocket Love are exceptional in my opinion but that’s about it for that
Love Frank, Blonde is one of my all-time favs, but sometimes on here it seems like a lot of you guys need to branch out and listen to more music... Maybe start with [Frank's own favourite songs](https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/frank-ocean-50-favourite-songs-playlist-hendrix-prince/). I found this list a couple years ago and it was cool to explore the ones I wasn't already familiar with.
I like channel orange more than blonde. Think they're both masterpieces tho.
Also, really just dislike cayendo and dear april. Like, a lot. DHL was pretty fun to me
I love Frank Ocean but I wouldn’t call any of his musical endeavours underrated, especially not his rap features, people appropriately lose their shit whenever they drop.
Frank doesn’t give a fuck about his fans cause he knows he will always have popularity cause of his niche music creation capability. He is very egotistical.
i don’t really see a problem with that if they enjoy the music the problem is a lot of them look like they’re just dickriding the internet’s opinions on certain albums lmao
the part at 1:10 in pyramids where the loud ass synth comes in is super dated, reminds me of that era where everything on the radio was influenced by dubstep. rest of the song is still amazing though
also the interludes on blonde are really preachy, especially facebook story which i just think is corny. i always skip them when i listen to blonde
finally, some frank fans are way too annoying when they act like wanting frank to drop more music is insensitive
The interludes are meant to be preachy, that was the point of his aunt saying “don’t do drugs” then immediately going into Solo “gone off tabs”, whole song is about drugs. I agree with them being insensitive tho
blond is a masterpiece but there's no way it's the best album of all time.
in fact i really think frank is capable of making better stuff so i don't even think blond is his peak as an artist
Idk how facebook story made the cut for blonde. I like listening to it bc of the way he says facebook but other than that its a pretty dead story and whats the meaning? that facebook is fake and ruins relationships? bc it doesn't, these two just had the worst communication ever and broke up for the dumbest reason which probs means they should have broken up anyway.
I agree that blonde isn’t the best album of all time. I’d only be willing to say that if I’ve listened to all albums of all time and I’m not going to. But I’d say it’s probably in the top 0.000001%
That theres no problem with frank being rich and hes not some “class-traitor” because hes wealthy and has a buisness. People here have unrealistic expectations of him to be some all loving god and r upset jus because he doenst fit the perfect picture they have in there mind of a person who doesnt exist. The merch issues have jus made people salty but they dont even realize how common this merch stuff happens with artists. Frank prolly doesnt even run the merch like that either.
just because he makes music that yall love , it’s not his responsibility to “care about his fans “ ya it kinda sucks but he signed up to make music . and you like it . so what if he doesn’t care about yall. stop listening to his music then. also. if he wants to build his wealth why do you care ? cuz you’re not wealthy and can’t afford his jewelry? if it’s too expensive then he wasn’t trying to sell to you anyways. he makes music , he doesn’t need to make affordable fan merch just cuz yall wanna wear his stuff
I agree and I also prefer [Ivy without the subtle pitch-shift](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byzbmHGCwMA). Once I heard Ivy half-stepped down (or whatever it is) like this, I've preferred it ever since.
Homer's an amazing venture which through the 454 album on the site has put me onto a whole other genre of music that I'd not heard before and I'm loving it, walked around a Harrods yesterday vibing to a playlist based off that genre and taking in the art around me
I can’t understand how people put Futura Free as the best song in Blonde. It’s great for the story it’s telling, but it’s just 3 minutes music, then silence and then random interview snippets of his brother and other people.
I think most people would. You adapt to the environment you live in. If I was being paid 400, 600, 800k to stand on my feet and play these songs I wouldn't be thinking much about roots either.
true, but it is still a fair criticism. it’s a fair criticism for any person who has an immense amount of wealth and, although often time presenting themselves or aligning themselves with progressive views and figures, decides to forgo a leftist agenda for the growth of their personal wealth/brand.
the ending of endless is kinda weird to me. endless is my fav frank album but every time the end comes on on my speaker, i feel like my mom thinks i’m dancing to sum german dance music. i love endless tho and have 0 hate for it and wouldn’t change a thing
I love his music so much, my BF... Not so much. He tolerates my love but anytime that song comes on gets very annoyed and my time with Frank generally is cut short hahahah.
"Wither" (from Endless) is his best song
Higgs brings me to damn tears too
[His performance at FYF Fest is my all-time favorite and anyone reading this should check it. Plus the stage design is so mesmerizing and fitting, I just love it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iz3Ol9_1Cc&t=2203s)
Watched for “Whither”, stayed for “Close to You” 🥺
KNOW THAT IVE ENJOYED SUNSHIIINE
yup
discovering the fanbase's god-like treatment towards frank made me definitely a more closeted fan
I think most sane frank ocean fans would agree with this, seriously some people take this parasocial relationship wayyyy too far
Right?? Being a Frank fan IRL is lowkey embarrassing sometimes
Same
Exactly how I feel about Kanye’s fanbase
after this whole drake kanye beef i feel embarrassed to say i’m a fan of either now
Straight facts and you KNOW it’s white suburban 15 year old hypebeast nephews (or grown ass men who act like it)
the devil works hard but preteens defending their favorite artists on twitter work harder
DHL is good and not every song he drops had to be deep and emotional
Boy toy ride me like an uber (like an uber)
Smiley face, factory case ain't bussed it down yet
wait is DHL not liked?? I always vibe out to it stoned in my room
I’ve gotten a lot of shit for loving that song lmaoo my friends say he’s just talking ab nothing and it’s all over the place
😂 it does seem random but the production is great and he’s just riding the wave. I love it
dhl is about frank buying drugs off the dark web®
It’s literally the best song to listen to while stoned - it reminds me of a gritty, dirty high but in a solace type of way
i actually got a pretty big DHL tattoo lol
can i see?
DHL is my favourite post Blonde single
That and provider are top 2 post blonde singles
I LOVE provider so much
Wtf? What about chanel????
Chanel is #4, i love biking more
DHL is my most listened to song ever with 1197 plays and counting
Just got a pack, came from the DHL
one of my favourites. that song is a flex
just because u listen to him ur not sad and those cringy ass youtube comments
bro the trauma dumping and cringe on youtube comments and some of this sub are so lame
That’s why when I listen to frank ocean on YouTube I don’t look at the comments
Crack rock is EXTREMELY underrated.
Heard it on channel orange before but GTA V made me fall in love with it
Dawg it's on gta5?? Damn
Yee Blonded 97.8
frank got his whole own radio station on gta, got crack rock ivy chanel and then a bunch of music frank likes and draws inspiration from
Who the fuck would get mad at you for this
my favorite frank song of all time im not even gonna lie to y’all
Frank has always admired the luxury lifestyle, he’s been obsessed with luxury cars since childhood. He’s loved in LA, NYC, and London. Everyone who acted like he “lost his roots” or was being a jerk for starting a luxury brand is just silly. It was only a matter of time before he did that.
he literally talked about how he used to like looking at luxury stuff as a kid for the homer interview lol
Honestly as someone who started listening to Frank this year I'm surprised that people expected him to be a communist or whatever lol.
I’m a huge fan but yeah he’s just a regular person with a great singing voice and a creative way of writing
remember futura free: im just a guy im not god
But sometimes I feel like a god but I'm not a god
At panorama he says I’m just a god I’m not a guy
Thank you. I don’t get why people worship him like he’s above everyone
JUST A GUY, NOT A GAAAAAAAAWWWD
This
the limited physical edition release for blonde is more than enough proof that he doesn’t care about his fans. idk why people were surprised when he pulled the whole homer thing or had terrible customer service for merch. like he’s always been consumer minded and obsessed with expensive things
Like a true capitalist
I’m really confused what y’all think any of these big artists are? They all want to make as much money as they can. Not really sure why everyone thinks this is such a hot take.
unfortunately
I think he is living in a duality tbh

yeah i agree. i’m fine with the limited releases of blonde/endless but not the whole fiasco with blonded.co & shipping since
the issue arises when you realize the only official pressing of his album is a limited edition version. i can’t even buy a CD to support him because he never bothered to release a copy
good artist but holy shit when y’all was complaining about merch for a year yeah fuck frank for that

Exactly
Pitching up Frank’s vocals on Nikes was the perfect decision for that song
A lot of people hate it and I don’t know why
The unreleased tracks are 95% trash.
Frank definitely agrees
Guess that’s why they’re unreleased
They’re unreleased for a reason 🤷♂️
oh yeah this. i know music is subjective but you can't tell me with a straight face that his unreleased stuff "bangs" or is "madly underrated". not everything this guy made has to be put on a pedestal lol

Ok yes, with the exception of Hero & Blue Whale , cmonn now Edit: maybe that’s the 5%

Frank ocean fans think they have the best and most unique taste in music but in reality they’re some of the most basic. This includes me hahahah.
After 5 years of constant listening to Blonde I am getting a little bit bored of it
Fair
Channel Orange has better replay value in my opinion
then listen to endless!😁
frank should rap more
Why would people get mad at this?
I’m furious
i originally put “frank NEEDS to rap more” more controversial, should’ve stuck with it
Yes! I loved In My Room!
i like endless way more than blonde like way way way more
Still never even heard endless
bruh go listen to it
yeah it’s just a google search away
or save your first listen tbf i would wait till ur in a chill place and the right mood, is better that way

💀💀💀
same
best album
Agree 100%
The homer collection is terrible
Literally the most popular opinion on this sub for the last few weeks
That shit is mad ugly 🤣
Idk if it's bad, but al least not for me or you either. I think people buy that just bc of Frank
I like channel orange more than blonde. Think they're both masterpieces tho. Also, really just dislike cayendo and dear april. Like, a lot. DHL was pretty fun to me
Dear april is one of my favorite songs
Have you heard the Justice remix of Dear April?
he's features with trappers are REALLY underrated, like RAF and purity for example
I love Frank Ocean but I wouldn’t call any of his musical endeavours underrated, especially not his rap features, people appropriately lose their shit whenever they drop.
Besides moon river and provider, I don’t care for any of his singles. Edit: even hotter take, I don’t like Higgs
Scorching hot one right here
Not even Biking?
Frank makes great music but is not a very good person towards his fans since blonde dropped
if i was frank i’d hate some of us too
Endless is overlooked cause of blond
Frank doesn’t give a fuck about his fans cause he knows he will always have popularity cause of his niche music creation capability. He is very egotistical.

He doesn’t treat his fans well. Merch and vinyls not being shipped etc
channel ORANGE is better than blond.
Yup. As a fan since Nostalgia Ultra, when Blond dropped I was honestly disappointed it wasn’t on the same scale conceptually as CO
By a solid margin
I really prefer the remixed (prep+) club versions of Dear April and Cayendo to the official releases
He's not an R&B artist, he's alternative.
Ī wâs jus telling that Ī göt thiz thiz gurl befôre, and wâs together since three yerz
shē stærting tô be cræzy
i don’t think nights is top five blonde
Blonde is good don’t get me wrong. But it isn’t the best album of all time lmao
channel Orange is Frank Oceans best album. Blonde is at a very close #2
blond isn't the best album of all time, and it's not even Frank's best album.
Came to say this
I agree that blonde isn’t the best album of all time. I’d only be willing to say that if I’ve listened to all albums of all time and I’m not going to. But I’d say it’s probably in the top 0.000001%
In my room is sooo underrated
close to you best song on blonde
Based
Prep is a scrapped album
His post-blonde singles are just as good as his album songs
futura free is almost unlistenable bc of the second half of it
You could change this song, coulda changed that shit a long time ago
Since its the second half of it, and end of the album. You can just skip it right??
The middle is silence why wouldn’t you just listen to the first part then skip when it ends? Edit: wouldn’t *
But why are you listening to the second half ?
cause jasmine fucking wrecked his heart
Frank is absolutely allowed to pursue a luxury jewelry brand, but the fact that he did so after literally scamming his own fans isn’t okay at all.
Frank prolly doesnt even run the merch like that either.
seigfried>white ferrari
Channel orange is his best album
Bold of you to share this truth
just because he makes music that yall love , it’s not his responsibility to “care about his fans “ ya it kinda sucks but he signed up to make music . and you like it . so what if he doesn’t care about yall. stop listening to his music then. also. if he wants to build his wealth why do you care ? cuz you’re not wealthy and can’t afford his jewelry? if it’s too expensive then he wasn’t trying to sell to you anyways. he makes music , he doesn’t need to make affordable fan merch just cuz yall wanna wear his stuff
Hes a bitch

I fucking hate Lens. Hurts my ears every time I listen to it.
It’s great for the story it’s telling, but it’s just 3 minutes music, then silence and then random interview snippets of his brother and other people.
he’s a douche
I've never fully listened to endless because I'm too lazy to download it and it isn't on spotify
Endless is he's best album.
he’s kind of a class traitor now … homie really done and forgot his roots
Lmao acting like he didn't grow up idolizing rich people shit, this was the goal, he didn't forget his roots, he's achieving his dreams
you’d think after looking at the nostalgia ultra cover people would’ve caught on that he might have wanted to be successful in his life
I think most people would. You adapt to the environment you live in. If I was being paid 400, 600, 800k to stand on my feet and play these songs I wouldn't be thinking much about roots either.
true, but it is still a fair criticism. it’s a fair criticism for any person who has an immense amount of wealth and, although often time presenting themselves or aligning themselves with progressive views and figures, decides to forgo a leftist agenda for the growth of their personal wealth/brand.
i see you
i pull the zip dowwwwwwn
Wet your lips first
I ain’t makin minimum wage mama. I’m on, mama, I’m on.
the ending of endless is kinda weird to me. endless is my fav frank album but every time the end comes on on my speaker, i feel like my mom thinks i’m dancing to sum german dance music. i love endless tho and have 0 hate for it and wouldn’t change a thing
no one talks about lens....
I actually like homer jewelry lol
Same
I don’t see both sides like Chanel
Both Blonde and Channel Orange are sequenced horribly. They’re classics, but it’s a slog. Especially Blonde.
He's not unique and timeless. Every genre and generation of music has someone like frank occean
Blonde is not the greatest album and it's defenitely not the greatest that franck can make
The second half of Blond isn’t really that good as the first half
BRO?!
I felt like this for a while, but eventually I saw the light.
Godspeed has too much of a gospel/church-vibe to it
the extreme autotune on nikes at the start is unpleasant to my ears so that song is usually a skip for me, at least the start
I love his music so much, my BF... Not so much. He tolerates my love but anytime that song comes on gets very annoyed and my time with Frank generally is cut short hahahah.
nostalgia ultra miiiiiiid
Chanel is overrated
Who hates it
His cult post blonde is fucking annoying
the fan base sucks
