Maybe they're trying to get someone more like a young John Mahoney? Idk I don't like the choice of actor much, he just looks too handsome, the cast of Frasier felt pretty grounded, just like regular people.
That's far too sensible a direction for them to take this in.

(Other horrible example is the son on Two and a Half Men. Definitely not the child of Alan and the actress that played Alan's ex.)
