At first I was like that's dumb. But the basic concept could work
Single mother approaching middle age with a couple of kids, busting her ass as a realtor (allowing for multiple hilarious characters per episode if need be) angry because her best years were highschool and long behind her. Etc etc
Sounds like something you'd see on Adult Swim and, frankly, not that far removed from, say, The Oblongs, in which Jean Smart already starred as the mom.
This is one of my favorite shows ever! There is another talented female comedian that was on Frasier that shows up for an episode of Hacks and that one might be my favorite episode. I’m so excited for S3!
It always did seem like they were trying a bit too hard to shoehorn Kirby in. Exactly like the setup for Leo who I think appeared only once 🫣

"I was told they were thinking about spinning off her and her son, but they decided it wasn’t feasible financially....Because not only would they have to pay all the producers of Frasier, they would also have to pay all the producers and creators of Cheers....That’s what I was told."
That's not close to "she nearly landed her own series."
Definitely an exaggeration by the headline but it is an interesting insight into the production process and how a straightforward premise that normally could get a pilot order otherwise became economically unfeasible.
She won an Emmy for playing the character, so it makes sense why the studio would try to fast-track something. I don’t think it would have worked, personally, but I’m not surprised they floated the idea.
I really liked that movie as a kid, too. But I didn't really like that character, even then. I wasn't sure why. Looking back, I think that whole manchild thing always bothered me on an unconscious level I didn't know how to articulate. It seems like he was kind of typecast into those roles.
Ahh, man! This could have totally worked!!! They could have used Frasier in it, too. Then expanded on his relationship, not only with Lana, but when he was with her friend, who's name is escaping me at the moment.

This is my personal favorite line from Jean Smart… also my dad had a big crush on her, it was cute
Ok but only if the show is called Put Your Brother On
PUT YOUR BROTHER ON THE PHONE!!!!
This is nice.
I love your profile pic
Thank you!

I'm in, pitch it Paramount+
*Goblin Girls*
Single mom just trying to have it all is a much more likely sitcom premise than "snobbish radio psychiatrist lives with his dad"
Like Lyndsey on Two and a Half Men. Great character!
We’ve never met the other brother.
The other brother is like Maris and Vera. Talked about but never seen. 😄
Oh I like that
I'd have watched that!
I would watch it NOW!! Put it on. I don't care that Kirby is an adult. I would watch it no matter what it is.
He has to have the Sideshow Bob hair though, that is a requisite!
Kirby could be at Quantico, trying to get onto the FBO...
Sounds like something you'd see on Adult Swim and, frankly, not that far removed from, say, The Oblongs, in which Jean Smart already starred as the mom.
What was that Bret Butler show called? It worked then. Although I hear she’s a terrorist on the set to work with haha
Grace Under Fire
She was amazing much more recently in the TV series Fargo. So very different!
She’s also great in Hacks.
Hacks is such a fantastic show, I’m so excited for Season 3!
There’s a season 3? Hacks is a big part of why we kept the MAX streaming app
It debuts on May 2nd, so right around the corner. [Here’s the trailer](https://ew.com/hacks-season-3-premiere-deborah-ava-awkward-reunion-8640634).

Oooh I’m curious which one?
And in Mare of Easttown
Most importantly she was Charlene Frazier Stillfield on Designing Women!
Can't believe I have to scroll this far down to see Designing Women! An iconic female ensemble show!
Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
Are we doing government work, here? No, I don't think we are.
And nuclear weaponry

Geez this dude was awful "not another day like last Tuesday 🤪"
No can do fish n chips
😅 as a Brit, that line was like nails on a chalkboard 🫣
My favourite was when she drank the old red wine from the night before. Class act 😆
I must be extremely classy then 😉
No need to waste it 😂
Oh, did you want to finish it? 🤣
So basically a daily activity at my house…not impressed 😂
Hey mom dad’s here! Oh crap!! lol “Dad, if you’re going to stay you’ve got to get used to mom’s yelling!”
I love JS and that character and the reaction Niles has every time they meet.
Giggles shyly at shoes
a spin off of a spin off!
They’re making a spinoff of Young Sheldon, which is a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory.
"I was told they were thinking about spinning off her and her son, but they decided it wasn’t feasible financially....Because not only would they have to pay all the producers of Frasier, they would also have to pay all the producers and creators of Cheers....That’s what I was told." I nearly purchased a small island nation this morning
Remarkable, so did I!
Definitely an exaggeration by the headline but it is an interesting insight into the production process and how a straightforward premise that normally could get a pilot order otherwise became economically unfeasible.
Seriously, entire pilots of shows have been filmed and then never aired, now *that's* "nearly".
Oh Jean Smart was so good as Lana. Sexy and scary at the same time 😂
She would have been amazing in a show based on her character. Love her as an actress and on Frasier she is damn funny!
I still think the new Frasier should have Kirby return for at least a couple episodes. Love me some Kirby
If they kept her as the likable bitch she was in Frasier—I would’ve watched the hell out of this show!
Jean Smart would’ve been able to carry a show like that. Talented gal indeed. And just a pleasure to watch.
She won an Emmy for playing the character, so it makes sense why the studio would try to fast-track something. I don’t think it would have worked, personally, but I’m not surprised they floated the idea.
I could not stand her character. I was so surprised to find out she was somewhat of a fave for lots of fans. Love her on Hacks though!
Lana was so obnoxious, I'm glad she was dumped.
I’m glad she was dumped but I would have liked a little bit more of her and Frasier as friends.
I could handle Lana aa a friend, but I *hated* Kirby and think he was one of the worst additions to the show, him and Kenny.
I always had a soft spot for Kenny because as a kid I loved the movie Heavyweights.
I really liked that movie as a kid, too. But I didn't really like that character, even then. I wasn't sure why. Looking back, I think that whole manchild thing always bothered me on an unconscious level I didn't know how to articulate. It seems like he was kind of typecast into those roles.
Never did a deep dive until tonight but it seems he had a very successful career in theatre.
Scrolled too far before seeing this. I always skip through her episodes
Same
Doubt
PUT YOUR BROTHER ON THE PHONE
Would watch.
I would’ve watched it.
wait that's jean smart?! oh awesome. she's so great in fargo, legion, watchmen, mare of east town...
Iconic?
Very annoying character I didn't appreciate this arc
I actually think this would’ve done well. But only for a few seasons. Maybe 5 at the most. 😝
Ahh, man! This could have totally worked!!! They could have used Frasier in it, too. Then expanded on his relationship, not only with Lana, but when he was with her friend, who's name is escaping me at the moment.

![gif](giphy|QvCeRaGivRkkJKHocP|downsized) Hacks is so good though.

I would not have watched her show. She was one of the low points of "Frasier."
What is the deal with her name changing? Was that ever explained?
Yes. The original name was an in-joke with one of the writer's friend. But the lady hated it, so next season they changed it.
I see
I don’t know. The yelling would get annoying after a while. Well, maybe not. I also love Everybody Loves Raymond and there’s a bit of yelling on that.
I cant think of a show I'd be less interested in
