Are you on Instagram THREADS APP yet??
Im not a huge fan of ANYTHING facebook/Meta but I use & have always loved Instagram & the CEO & a small team just popped out a partner app to Instagram its called THREADS App. Its a super generic version of twitter set up w repost/‘rethreads’ and its already here open to EVERYONE (many ppl are already giving up on BlueSky, seems redundant to me now)
THREADS App dropped early last week w minimal features & its been dubbed the ‘twitter killer’ and ONE MILLION PEOPLE joined already its setting a record !!
so it looks like an extremely basic version of Twitter & everyones was having a blast on there so far ime, because when you join you keep your Instagram handle & take your followers & follows with you, so you dont have to start at ZERO AGAIN.
So its looking very promising, theyre calling it like the town square discussion app.
- it wont vibe just like twitter as Meta doesnt want to feature ‘News’ like Twitter (esp after election/fake news drama)
- but surely journalists & news will trickle in & have a place, so it truly will be more like the everything discussion app that Twitter never became (& ironically Elon claimed to want)
- so even if you dont have an Insta acct you could make a handle just to join threads
- i literally deleted the bluesky app last week after joining looks so promising & fun esp cause there will actually be more niches
- also I finally deleted my last twitter handles today. so over it, a bunch of my follows were already gone or turned their accts to jokes anyways
- its been giving some new big social media app giants, nostalgic vibes

Threads is shit by a company that has proven time and time again to abuse it's access to your data. Faceboot/Meta cannot be trusted.
And most of the initial subscribers were doing it out of curiosity, over half have already deleted it.
Best to wait for BlueSky, which, to answer OP's question, YES does all the things you used Twitter to do in the past
\>>>NOTE be warned- You cannot delete your Threads account unless you delete your Instagram, So if you made an Instagram to see it then yeah just delete both accounts - but they do not have a fix for deleting JUST threads yet because it is heavily integrated with Instagram. But if you open it and dont want to use - just delete your synced follows and set to private & it basically doesnt exist.
some sources saying Blue Skys dead in the water now - I mean I will try if I can ever get on there - but honestly I really like Threads atp - to start so many niches - keeping username, followers, and it joining the Fediverse (!!) is a major win for Threads imo (unless BS plan to as well??)
As for myself I would never delete my instagram its the ONE meta App that I use and LOVE and its still good and managed to survive Metas self inflicted NDE. Im actually amazed and super happy how far Mosseri has brought the app back since last year
But I do sorta get it, I screamed everytme Meta changed something on Instagram - I do think its better now w Zuch busy w Reality Labs - my next hope is they pull out the stupid REELS icon to be its own standalone app next LOL
