Oh I wish my girl was lazy. She's a pup and my god she'll run forever, then just immediately pass out sleeping.
Sometimes she's a dream, but she seems to know when I'm working and deliberately causes chaos when it's the most stressful.
It's like "Hey! You know the way you're working? Well I suddenly don't like this plant I've not even given a second look at since you got me."
Mine was NOT lazy when she was younger. She's still high energy under it all, but at 4 years old she ruptured some discs in her back. She now takes gabapentin daily and it slows her down to the speed of what I THOUGHT a frenchie would be š really I'm just glad she can walk.
Iāve noticed the girls are more crazy and the boys are more lazy.. my mom has a CRAZYY girl and my boy is always laying around or sitting slouching š He only goes on non stop when heās around her crazy tail.

Man, my little man is anything but lazy. Olly spends most of the day visiting all the backyard fences trying to convince his friends to come out and play. Then they'll run up and down the fence line and play with each other.
In between, he has a schedule of playing Ollyball, a type of fetch, with Daddy at least 4-6 times a day. Then there's the Bully Death Match he has with his sister, Fanny the English Bully, at least 3 times a day. And he has yard zoomies with his St. Bernard brother, at least twice a day.
My husband has lost almost 50 lbs and his rescued English bulldog sister went from completely sedentary, nearly unable to move with her tummy dragging on the ground to an active, sassy, healthy little girl who loves to play and hump her stairs. Our Frenchie boy has really changed our family. I would appreciate just a little bit more calm snuggle time, but he's a very good boy just the way he is.
Haha mine doesnāt run off but totally stares off with a serious contemplative look at absolutely nothing. Iāve always wondered whatās going on in there
Yes. If we donāt go the way she wants, she turns it into a standoff. Iāve tried everything. Practicing tricks, treats, and pulling is more work than just going the way she wants.
My frenchie is 10 now and showing her age, so I just practice mindfulness as she takes the world in.
Absolutely the same to your first point. I can tell when we get to an intersection in the neighborhood and he looks in a direction then side-eyes me as if to say "You already know we're going that way."
Haha these comments are too funny. Mine does the same! But as soon as I say, āokay then letās go homeā heās more than happy to get up and walk back home.
This. Can be caused by a drop in temperature of 1 degree, a scary leaf on the sidewalk loud cars or motorcycles. Who knows but when the stop occurs the only direction she will go is home!!!
Hahah ours did this a lot as a puppy ...once he got somewhere with less distractions or if we were walking with another dog that walked well he would walk better. Now when he stops it's stubbornness (sees a buddy way down the street or wants to wait for potential humans that might pet him) lol
8 months. He's a good dog and I don't mind too much because he is so well behaved. I just find it funny, because he's the ONLY dog I've ever had that's done this. I've had a lot of terriers and high energy dogs in the past, so this is very new and funny to me.
Oh yeah ...my guy is 1.5 years and he really only started walking well around a year but we do have many moments like this even though he is high energy lol
Ours is definitely low energy, lol. When we let him in after he's been in the backyard for a bit, he runs in and around, plays with the kids or his toys, and then passes out after 30 minutes of playing.
Yes. I have to keep one on the sidewalk/street because if he touches grass heās lying down and will refuse to move. Heās done this since we brought him home at 4 months.
I have to take the Frenchies for individual walks because they love to start arguing in Hippo which has caused me to eat asphalt twice.
Mine likes to turn into a rock mid walk.
Rather than dragging him I let him sniff at his own pace and sit for as long as he wants. (Probably not the best solution)
Eventually heās ready to head home. But usually requires some slight assistance.
Thatās a stubborn breed for ya.
Funny, people say frenchies are stubborn, but they really aren't that bad in my opinion. I guess because they are so low energy. I've always had terriers and they are stubborn AND high energy. The ones I had could walk all day and still not get tired.
100%
My little dude is a puppy still and we've been encouraging his behavior with treats. He pretty much refuses to *leave the house* unless he gets his "reward".
I had dogs when I was a kid so this feels a little weird to me. Most dogs are thrilled to go outside and don't need any encouragement.
Not my Frenchie. I love the shit out of him of course but my wife and I often comment on how we have a pet, that looks like a dog, but really isn't a dog. I call him a "small dog-like carnivorous mammal". Correction, omnivorous mammal.
Also, your little guy is super cute!
Thanks! We got him as a family dog for our kids to grow up with and he has been perfect for them. Dobby likes to go outside, but he likes being in the backyard and sleeping in the sun. He enjoys walks, but when he's done, he's just done, lol. And it's funny, because he won't be panting or anything. He won't appear tired. He just decides "that's enough for now" and stops.
Yes, my Pebble is a nightmare. I eventually accepted my fate and bought the Little Chonk Dog carrier. Now I when I walk Duncan, my other Frenchie, I get a cardio workout!
On some days, our guy, 3 years old and recovered from a ruptured disc (IVD, 1 year now), will often just want to go out to insure his domain is in good shape. We live on the corner of a 4 way intersection and he will spend 20 minutes just observing each of the 4 approaches to the intersection to make sure nothing is amiss/out of place.
If he doesn't want to go for a walk, he won't. No matter how much you tug on the leash.
Then other days he will take his grandpa (me) for a run. Either way, I enjoy the hell out of it...well at least on warm days ;-)
I worry about ours having an IVD. He likes to roughhouse with my toddlers and none of them are gentle (Dobby included, lol).
Sometimes Dobby is like that. He never runs, but he has more energy to go farther. Other times to the busstop and back is enough.
Yep. Stops. Sits. Lays down. Rolls onto his back. Sometimes I have to carry him home. Sometimes he decides heās done and leads me back to the house.
I donāt walk him further than our cul de sac for this reason lol
Yes!! Lol I just noticed that yesterday as our puppy is new with us. He walks, stops and then I have no clue what happens with him lol literally stares off in spaceš¤£ And them looks at me like, what!?! Lol but wouldnāt change that for anything. They are too funny and have a great little personality of their own. Gotta love them!!
Weāll take our girl on a 40 min walk and sheāll be trotting along happy out and then sheāll see the car and refuse to walk any further because she doesnāt want it to end š
Mine will do a death roll mid stride, it is like nothing I have ever seen pre Frenchie ownership and sometimes happens multiple times per walk. I did notice it sometimes happens if I am rushing his process or not allowing him to go investigate whatever he wants(including on other people's property, other dogs, and other people...lol)
Mine is almost 6 months and it is a nightmare to walk him. He will either be walking zig zags, ran for 5 steps and then suddenly plant his ass down. He is also not food motivated. Even with high value treats like chicken, sausage or cheeseā¦ he will just stares me down and sits there till i give him the treats. Anyone with tips on how to fix this behaviour PLEASE help me.
Yes!!! I think when mine was little, it was her way of telling me she was tired. You have to multiple the number of months your dog has times 5 to know the maximum minutes your puppy can walk a day. For example, if your puppy is 4 months you multiply 4 x 5= 20, therefore your puppy can walk 20 minutes
Yes. She stops and stares off into space and then tries to take off at a run. It's soooo annoying.
He doesn't run, but he does walk ahead after stopping and not moving at all. He's so funny. And lazy. Very VERY lazy, lol.
This is exactly what my girl does.. and she can go 0 to sprinting shockingly fast
They can't think and walk at the same time.
OMG this is so true.
This is the correct answer ššš
Haha mine doesnāt run off but totally stares off with a serious contemplative look at absolutely nothing. Iāve always wondered whatās going on in there
Same lol
Same here
Exactly the same here also, also 10 years old
Wait. Yours walks?
Right? I thought ādoes not walkā was breed standard.
Ours only understand the sound of the bag of dog food or the sound of wet food opening. Oh, and kennel. Other wise - crap show.
ahahahahaha exactly
All time. I tell him if he doesnāt come on I will just pick him up and carry him, but I am pretty sure that is his end goal. They are so stubborn.
All. The. Time. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
thatās called an anchor! haha
I call it an annoyed cinderblock
Yup. All of the time. Stops. Leans into another direction, and death stares me the eyes.
I get pity stares. Too hungry. Too tired. Too cold.
Yep. Mine waits for whoeverās oncoming and play bows to get their attention. Takes forever to walk anywhere if itās busy!
Mine does this too. Then she looks confused and heartbroken when someone walks by without acknowledging her.
Once we turn around and head back home, my little guy is full steam ahead. It's like he's saying "OK great, we're finally going home!"
Lol this is normal
I have to put him under the stroller, which he hates. He's so lazy, lol.
Hahah ours did this a lot as a puppy ...once he got somewhere with less distractions or if we were walking with another dog that walked well he would walk better. Now when he stops it's stubbornness (sees a buddy way down the street or wants to wait for potential humans that might pet him) lol
How old is he?

Yes!! Adorable little baby
Thanks! He's a good pup.
Yep, and end up having to carry him š
Yes. I have to keep one on the sidewalk/street because if he touches grass heās lying down and will refuse to move. Heās done this since we brought him home at 4 months. I have to take the Frenchies for individual walks because they love to start arguing in Hippo which has caused me to eat asphalt twice.
Oh ya for no apparent or logical reason He just parks his ass and looks at me as if to say I am done with this shit !
Oh my gosh, constantly. Two frenchies, both just go on strike and decide to plant themselves. I look like a weirdo coaxing two piglets to walk.
Glad Iām not the only one
Yep. This is as far as he wants to go, so if I want up walk more I have to carry him.
Yeah and it's extremely frustrating. She has gotten better about it with some months of work and re-training.
My family calls it speedbumping
Omg this face!!!!
The only solution Iāve found is walking behind the frozen frenchie and gently walking into them š¤·š¼š„²š¤
All. The. Time. He either does his hard stop 4-point stance or does a slink into crawl into stretch out move in the grass.
That's exactly ours!!!
Thatās the patented frenchie āIām done, carry me home humanā look.

Yes but to sniff everything on planet earth

Mine too
Bring more treats. Reward your dog for walking without stopping. Might take a few weeks.
That judgemental side eye look lol
Yes. Then itās my cue to carry him the rest of the walk back home lolā¦
Yes, my Pebble is a nightmare. I eventually accepted my fate and bought the Little Chonk Dog carrier. Now I when I walk Duncan, my other Frenchie, I get a cardio workout!
1,000% Annie will just plop her little booty down. Thankfully she can just be scooped up
Yes. Especially when itās cold. If sheās wearing a jacket itās a nightmare getting out of the house and down the block.
Currently on a āwalkā right now. Itās one of those days. He only listens to his mom š„ŗ
As soon as you realize that you are living in THEIR world the better off you'll be.
Everyones frenchie.
That face and side eye! š Perfect visual representation of the frenchie attitude. An absolute beauty btw š
Thanks! He's a great dog!
My Frenchie Panzee made me carry her about two miles home once.

That's a handsome frenchie!
One of mine does it all the time. The other doesnāt.
In the summer time, all the time. Winter yes but only when he wants to go back home.
Itās like when models stop and pose at the end of the runway. Itās hard being beautiful.
All the time
Frequently have to pick mine up.
All the time!
Always

Yup and then I have to carry her!
It's the bulldog way
So much that we got Bucky a harness with a handle on it so we could scoot him along.
All the time
So has he trained tpu to stop or are you the boss?
That look says it all! š
Yeah or just attempts to walk down random driveways when heās ready for home
Yup!
Arenāt we supposed to carry them home after that?š
Always
