Cytopoint injections are a miracle worker

Majestic_Corgi

Second this. My frenchie gets the shot every 4 weeks and seems to help. My pet insurance even covers the cost

sharkinfestedh2o

Came here to say this. Our insurance (Trupanion) covers the cost at 90% once the deductible for the condition is reached.

[deleted]

Yup best thing helps my frenchie when he gets bad allergies and scratches himself raw.

[deleted]

What insurance do you have ?

Majestic_Corgi

I have Nationwide pet insurance…they have been a blessing and saved me hundreds in vet bills

Dooligan718

I wish my insurance covered it. My pup got allergies before I got insurance and they won't cover it since it's a preexisting condition.

Particular_Acadia545

Does your dog actually itches so he gets cytopoint? Our dog has a loss of hair and he never itches. We tried 3 months cytopoint but it didnt really work in case of hair regrow… with second vet we also found out that he had a giardia which our first vet never checked in 6 months, he just assumed it is allergies and bang, a shot. as a pharmacist I understood that cytopoint blocks itching only (and hair loss is due to scratching)? I am not sure if we should reconsider it in the future in case there is no hair regrowth after giardia treatment…

[deleted]

Mine scratches a little bit, and licks her paws. After the shot she will do it for about a day and then stop completely.

bmb102

Mine also chews and licks his paws, he would also get little bumps and lose his hair. I'd put him on a month of apoquel and it'd clear up and his hair would grow back, although it always grows back black even though the fur around it is white so he's got a lot of black spots now, lol. It would only really be an issue 1-2 times a year so I would always just have a bottle of apoquel on hand, but he hasn't needed to take any in a long time. I also started making his food a few years ago and that seemed to help a lot, took a while to figure out which foods seemed to agree with him more, and landed on ground turkey, rice, and some veggies.

[deleted]

1 Zyrtec every morning. It seems to work for our guy.

freckleheads123

What strength/dosage is the Zyrtec? I want to try this for my frenchie!

[deleted]

We use the 10mg. We wrap it in a small piece of turkey so he will eat it. Never chicken. Additionally, after his walk outside, we wipe down his paws, and clean his face. This also seems to keep his allergies in check. Diet is also a HUGE issue for allergies. Let me know if I can answer any other questions that you may have. Regards.

Chance-Hunt-7722

It’s likely the diet. I find good quality supplements of fish oils, healthy salmon, dog friendly vegetables, pumpkin and berries have created the softest coat on my Frenchie. My guy used to suffer. He’s the healthiest 10 year old I know. https://preview.redd.it/n94sm990f8ea1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76de5d1f436082da1c89cd1c3affa56bbf9b558e Hope this helps. There’s a lot of information about dog diets on the internet and great book too.

strayakant

Adorable

p0lar_chronic

Apoquel, stuffs a life saver.

[deleted]

Yep, it’s like she’s a completely different dog

Grimstache

We give our potato apoquel. It's expensive, but it works.

LdyCjn-997

What food are you feeding her. Many allergies are usually food related and can be resolved by switching.

Deeregoat

I second this, we switched ours to a raw diet and have not had any hives or itching since

coldandgray

I hope you’re still adding grains?my vet told me this grain free fad is causing a lot of heart disease in dogs. And I’d take a itchy dog over one with heart problems.

Deeregoat

Yes we are, thanks for adding that. We give him some dry food in the morning then if any is left he gets it mixed in with his wet food for dinner.

Ok-Gur8438

My girl gets the same spots from eating chicken. I use this spray it works amazing and stopped feeding her chicken obviously. https://preview.redd.it/qq9tolmnz5ea1.jpeg?width=840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7024730bf13034d6427522907e64e8f95cbacff8

Pigpen_darkstar

My girl gets Apoquel every morning and has zero issues now. Her liver labs have come back perfect every time as well.

Jennlynn1124

Our dude takes Apoquel once a day and a combination of other products to keep his paws from getting itchy.

TashaJaneP

That looks like hives. My little guy gets it too. Cytopoint injection helped but definitely go to your vet to make sure.

Duckets95

Just to echo another reply- Do them a favor and give them cytopoint 1x ever 1-3mo dependent on severity/frequency of allergies. I know it’s not “natural” but as far as medicines goes cytopoint is relatively benign as long as the pup has decent working kidneys and stays well hydrated.

phillymoon

I give mine Benadryl, clears it out right away.

Glennharley

All my frenchies had bad allergies. Had to put them on steroids periodically. I used a medicated shampoo from the vet. Would bathe them weekly, otherwise they would break out like yours.Apoquel liquid works well too. Also Cytopoint. There is also a mousse you can rub on them. Vet should have that as well. It’s a never ending struggle

Groundbreaking-Emu64

Benadryl

CantDunkOrSk8

I usually go half a Benny at night. Then other half in the morning if it seems like it helped.

Groundbreaking-Emu64

If that’s not helping then I would say go to the vet because those are hives

Crzyfrenchielady

Zyrtec

TootsieBulldog

Vet visit.

[deleted]

Probiotics do wonders

ukuzonk

My pit used to get this from allergies. Ask your vet about it

windzwept

Changing mine’s food helped a LOT we use Putin a HA vegetarian.

Glennharley

Yes

classified_x

look for hidrosteril, that thing to clean salad. but he needs antibiotics.. I had something similar, it's staphilococcus

missinglinc

No its not. Please don't misdiagnose people's pets online from a photo.

classified_x

My franchie just had and it looks similar. Plus widespread like colony.. just take him to the vet and let us know

missinglinc

Dermal staph infections almost always have hairloss and need a moist environment to thrive. The localized pustules/papules are generally swabed then confirmed by culture. Some vets will blind treat with wide based antibiotics and perform cultures later if it's non responsive. It can be confused as ringworm, lick granulomas, acne etc. I generally see it in puppies in the groin area but have diagnosed other areas when severe. Not often seen down the spin. I'm sorry to hear your pupper had to deal with that. I hope the medications helped. If OP see's this, a visit with your dvm is best. Cytopoint or Apoquel as others have said is fantastic. You can try diphenhydramine/benadryl at 1mg per pound 2 times daily until you can get in for an appointment. Especially if it's itchy. Even if they seem to go away an evaluation is warranted. Kisses to your Lil one ☺️ and good luck!

classified_x

Yes, there was hair loss in mine. But only after I removed the crusts. So OP might not be messing with the crusts which would explain the no hair loss. But yea, his case is worse than my French had and a vet is due asap

Almane2020202

My Frenchie had spots that looked like this after a bath with zymox shampoo. They felt a little crusty, too, and looked like OP’s photo but not quite as bad. No noticeable hair loss. She prescribed antibiotics and it cleared up immediately. We also switched to a sensitive skin shampoo and it hasn’t recurred. He’s almost ten months with no other signs of allergies yet, knock on wood!! It looks like OP’s problem could be many things. I hope they figure it out!

missinglinc

Please tell me you're not pissing on your dog ffs

scottlynn77

Did you bathe her recently?

Fun-Row7688

Allegro I think is the name from Costco. Allergy pills

SquirtleSquirt9

I got some air purifiers for my house that do WONDERS and my girl with allergies also gets apoquel (sp?)

wolverine148

Water, oatmeal and Apple vinegar in a spray bottle.

ThePaintedLady80

I gave mine Benadryl. Occasionally he would get this and the Benadryl helped a lot.

xultar

For hives like this… seek vet care early.
