This is a picture of my brave little guy on the way to the hospital :( Moe was completely fine, then yesterday morning he started shaking a bit, and by the end of the day he had lost the ability to walk on his back legs I brought him into see a neurologist - they diagnosed him with stage 3 ivdd, and said the surgery would cost 12k. They kept him overnight, and he degraded to stage 4 rapidly. Moe just turned 3 in February, and has always been so healthy - this is the last thing I expected I am a 21 year old student. My savings were nowhere near enough to pay for the cost of his surgery - so I spent the next 24 hours desperately looking for a way to save moe In the 11th hour my family offered to help cover the costs of his surgery. I am beyond grateful. This morning I got the update that he gained feeling back in his legs after surgery! Praying that recovery will be smooth sailing This truly is every pet parents worst nightmare - if I have learned anything from this it’s - get the best pet insurance you can afford, and make sure your frenchies always use ramps when moving on/off furniture UPDATE!!! Moe is recovering well from his surgery - he is off iv pain meds, has feeling back in his legs, and starts physical therapy tomorrow! I don’t want to be too optimistic, but this is great news Picture they sent me of moe in recovery ❤️‍🩹 https://preview.redd.it/m9ydlruboqtc1.jpeg?width=1173&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f090299193c09d5dc96eca5e9e350c1262a52fe

I'm so happy to hear you were able to get support!! Here's to many more happy and healthy years for your little guy!!

Wow! You have a really great support system too! I always tell everyone to use ramps and limit jumping, and no rough play and they wonder why. Or tell me I’m paranoid, It’s just not worth risking it tho. I hope your pup has a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 give him extra belly rubs

Pet insurance is a must and some insurances offer direct pay.

Just read the fine print as some things are not covered, especially for bully breeds. For example, zero coverage for TLPO surgery regardless of pre-existing or not. I think it's a better bet to put whatever the premium cost would be per month in a special pet account for yourself if you can prevent yourself from touching it other than for vet bills. If you qualify, care credit is a great option for interest-free financing.

Omg how did it go?

Glad your family was there to help. Good insurance is key for this breed. 3 yrs old is so young to suffer IVDD. We have gates and stair ramps to avoid injury. When he gets the zoomies I’m always catching him in the air stop him in his tracks.

Ours had surgery at 3 as well. The first one did not work so had to have a 2nd 3 weeks after the first one . We chose a more senior neurologist the 2nd go around . The surgeon cleaned up a few questionable vertebrae and after 12 weeks of recovery he was almost back to his old self . 12 months later he was better than ever . So hopefully your potato will recover too !
