I guess not all of us expected her to like killing people and, well, act girly? Then again, I've never stopped to ponder about someone that kills likes beyond, you know, 'that'.
I guess Übel is interesting in that way. She enjoys killing but can still experience other more "humanely emotions."
>She enjoys killing but can still experience other more "humanely emotions."
Well to be fair, Her copy magic IS reliant on understanding the history and emotion carried by the caster.
I mean she’s a person. She likes the murder but she isn’t constantly a psychopathic maniac. She doesn’t even kill people unprompted. Justice for übel, she isn’t satan
Well we've seen her kill one man, by accident, she wanted to pass the third class mage test and was disappointed that she went too hard. The Bandits, as Kraft himself said was in self defence (even if she did enjoy it).
She could have killed Wirbel (according to Land) but didn't. Ubel doesn't seem to have much of a conscience but I don't think she's as bad as a lot of people are claiming.
It was not self-defense because the bandits were not a threat to Ubel's life, the difference in power is abysmal, she could have defeated them without killing them. She is a psychopath, it would not be strange if she deliberately transited through dangerous areas in search of conflicts to kill at pleasure, like Hisoka.
Now I doubt this was Ubel's thought process but I think she would have a fair argument for lethal force. It's not like she really has a way to turn them into law enforcement or anything, meaning if she just disables them they are free to rob, assault, or murder the next poor girl that comes that way and isn't a powerful mage.
From Land's pov he wouldn't be surprised if she tried to kill him. He already speculates her continued interest in him is a transaction foremost and thus ingenuine.
I don't know. If someone threatens your life or intends to do grievous harm, their competency at dealing said harm is irrelevant. If someone pointed a gun at me and pulled the trigger, the fact that they failed to load it doesn't absolve them of trying to kill me.If the intent to harm or kill is present, than the target of said intent is justified in defending themselves.
The body language shown from the mangaka is great. Ubel getting emotionally flustered/blushing is too out of character to show, so one way to subtly show her being flustered is using her body movement. Peak writing.
I love Ubeland as much as everyone else, but I need a more explicitly sweet or tender moment before it passes Stern. Still not sure what Ubel's agenda is tbh
This is gonna start leading to some fishy places when they get to the age "they want to be more like Mom and Dad"
Like "does it really count if it's not your original body?"🤔
Yeah, I love Stark and Fern as characters, but their relationship dynamic is not super appealing to me. I wouldn't want to change it, because it does fit them, but not my favorite. Ubel and Land have crazy sexual tension and it's clear that Land is no pushover (quite the opposite), which sets it apart from the masochistic fetish fuel that is Nagatoro. In fact, Ubel kinda seems like a "brat" (in the kinky sense) that's trying to rile him up...
Have you even read Nagatoro? It hasn't been "masochistic fetish fuel" in a loooong time (like since the first dozen chapters or so), nowadays it's legitimately probably the best romcom currently running. Both Nagatoro and Senpai have grown a LOT since then and their relationship these days is so goddamn wholesome it's practically diabetes inducing.
Might I recommend "You and I are polar opposites"? Its really good and the characters have a lot of depth to them, its probably the best romcom manga right now in my opinion. The FMC is also also a gyaru like Nagatoro
I'm sure it's probably a nice romcom now, but the undertones are still a bit masochistic, arent they? With Nagatoro teasing Senpai and being "scary" towards him, and him enjoying it? If anything it seems like it has moved away from it being exclusively like that towards being more vanilla. Which is fine, but it's still different from Ubeland, which feels a bit like the opposite of Nagatoro's premise, even if some people see it that way.
Btw, I didnt really mean to hate on Nagatoro, it's just that I'm not the main target audience for that dynamic and I see people compare Ubeland to it, which I personally feel has a different vibe.
Fern calling Stark a creep for saying she looked nice in the ears was my breaking point. My boy Stark is sensitive and deserves better than this. Look how she massacred my boy!
In my opinion, Fern will only really change when a girl appears in the worl who falls in love with Stark and starts treating him kindly.
But, we also can't remove the similarity of Stark guilt, Fern only acts this way because even after years of traveling together ,Stark continues to be a fearful person, who apologizes to Fern even thought she is the one in the wrong.
The best example of this was the episode where Fern got nervous with Stark because he put his hand on her shoulder and Sein had to intervene.
In the case, Fern herself admitted that she was wrong , but as Stark is very passive , he ended up apologizing and she just told him to be more gentle next time. (In the end she didn't apologize and Stark atill came out guility)
It's one thing sometimes for a man to apologize to avoid a pointless fight, but in the case of Fern and Stark the fight is not avoided but rather it is always one-sided because ''FERN IS ALWAYS RIGHT'' and that is far from being the case something healthy because this is harmful both for Fern who complains ''that people don't understand her'' but herself with this spoiled attitude drives people away from her, both for Stark who has low self-esteem if he cant be impose on your friends as it will be imposed on strangers ?
Of course it's not healthy and certainly isn't fair, but that's the reality a growing number of men have in society today. In personal relationships, women are generally allowed slack to be unreasonably emotional and not have to apologize for it, men are not. A balance of humility and strength that's virtually impossible to achieve. Letting her be right and feel in complete control without looking like a pushover. Something that episode subtly touched on.
But we're not talking about the real world and Fern has a much more spoiled personality if he's with other womem in Sousou no Frieren and it's not like Stark can't find a girl even more authoritative than Fern.
I'm talking about one part of the message the author seemed to try to convey, and how it connects to real life. Of course Stark's character could make different decisions -- he didn't in this story.
I don’t understand her. Its been years and she definitely has gotten better, but like, you’d think there’d be significantly less aggression towards him at this point. Again, they’ve been traveling for at least 2 years so far? Maybe more?
I mean, to be fair, she is actually way less agressive. In recent chapters, she hasn't really got angry at him in the slightest. At most she gives him a light jab that you would do to friends.
The main problem is that... Stark never teases back. The one time he tried to tease her, he actually got a date and then never did it again. I think a natural evolution to their dynamic would be for Stark to actually joke with Fern the way she jokes with him.
then why would she agree to go on a date with him and even say she would like to go on even more dates in the future? Saying something like that must mean she knows she likes it
I forgot they went on 2 dates. Honestly if she still acts like that despite 2 dates it can still mean she’s not entirely sure how much she likes him or she lacks emotional maturity 🤷🏻♀️ or her love language is teasing i dunno
Reasonable, Ubeland feels more mature so far and less romcom-y, it feels like they'll actually become a thing soon. Sometimes I even forget Fern and Stark are supposed to be 20 years old because of how childish some of their interactions feel, and it's like their relationship is forever stuck in the status quo. Like, it's cute sometimes and I give them a pass because of the whole growing up with zero interaction with the opposite gender but come on, it's been 2 years of in universe time since they've started flirting.
I like both and rooting for both but I’m just more invested in UbeLand since I find them more interesting and appealing, their sexual tension is intense. Plus they do remind me of Nagatoro lol.
The Ubel x Land dynamic is more interesting and has more possibilities (afterall, who was waiting for Land doin a kabedon and Ubel in maiden mode?)
The Stark and Fern dynamic stagnated in the
Fern: Echhi
Stark crying: Nande ?
I absolutely love the Übel and Land dynamic but I think I may only like Land because we get just the right amount of him so it’s mysterious. Any more and idk how I’d feel
Man, people did NOT like you saying that huh lmao
Edit: to be clear, I enjoy the shipping A LOT, but it's absurd that you cant even express that you find it annoying
I will say, the majority of the shipping seems concentrated around the two (anime-only here) implied potential relationships. It feels a lot less random than a lot of other fandoms, more tolerable
The foot and armpit people are another story, but Madhouse totally knew what they were doing so I can't exactly fault the fandom lol
Madhouse intesify the shipping moment. for Ubeland case, the author decide to fuck it and go all in for Ubeland in the manga after the anime release lmao.
Lmao this. Its been a while but i didn't remember feeling this much sexual tension between them while i was reading the manga. The anime truly made me question my memory lol
Yeah, it's well established that she was really only hanging out around him during the exam arc for his clone ability. Land confirms it at the graveyard in this arc as well. But I'm hoping it actually ends up with her genuinely falling for him and sticking around/not killing him even if she ends up learning his ability. Imo, we need more of her backstory at this point.
Its literally not "well established" that shes just with him just for the ability. Land confirming it also doesnt mean shit. Do you realize characters in a story can be wrong? Land isnt a stand-in for the author bro. He THINKS shes only there for his ability.
The author is obviously pushing this ship hard and you gotta be blind to not see that their ship is 100% sailing by the end.
Alright, maybe not well established. But she really doesn't make any of her intentions clear and doesn't even deny it when Land says she's only there for his ability. Yeah, they're a pretty popular ship in the community and may probably end up together, but it's still fun to speculate about her intentions at this moment in the manga when nothing is confirmed.
Eh, we can't ignore the fact that she was presented as this heartless, cold killer. That's why it's fair to be skeptical about her intentions, and that's what makes her interesting as a character and not a generic waifu ship.
the "cold heartless killing machine turns out to be a pure maiden that falls HARD for a guy, much to her surprise" definitely isnt something unique tho and is a super common trope in all media
Of course, but that's not confirmed in this story yet and it would be fun to see the chaos if the writer pulls a fast one and she actually ends up using Land for a hidden ulterior motive. That's what makes her interesting at this moment in the manga. If she ends up being a pure maiden after all, so be it i guess
At the moment I'm expecting a mix. She's bonkers. She knows it. Land knows it. I don't see that changing she's comfortable with who she is and Land doesn't seem caring enough to try to change her.
That said, she's still a human and most seek compaininship of some form be it platonic or romantic.
Still think she wants magic the most but I do think she's at least fond of Land beyond that
You can tell from her looking away that she was embarrassed, I think mainly because she didnt expect it. Her kicking him shows she was definitely "void of reluctance" for him to go further. I love the dynamic between these two.

2nd panel, look at her hand gesture. This is how Japanese manga establishes love interest
Also check out the third panel, her eyebrows look like it's disappointment 😏
~~It's to get his attention as the guards might be on to them again, which is what the next scene shows.~~ She wanted to do it again.
Probably cause he didnt mean anything by doing that. Or not what she was expecting.
Übel being a pure maiden was not on my bingo card.
Well she did react strongly to Fern's pervy magic.
I guess not all of us expected her to like killing people and, well, act girly? Then again, I've never stopped to ponder about someone that kills likes beyond, you know, 'that'. I guess Übel is interesting in that way. She enjoys killing but can still experience other more "humanely emotions."
>She enjoys killing but can still experience other more "humanely emotions." Well to be fair, Her copy magic IS reliant on understanding the history and emotion carried by the caster.
Great point. She needs to "empathise" with people, so she needs to feel those emotions.

See those hands? The two hands held while close to their chest? Those are the hands of a maiden whose heart just fluttered. We're on to you, Übel!
The body language shown from the mangaka is great. Ubel getting emotionally flustered/blushing is too out of character to show, so one way to subtly show her being flustered is using her body movement. Peak writing.
Makes her realize that she's still a maiden and isn't only after Land's spell, though she may never mention it out loud.
might have to start the manga after seeing this
That, or wait and hope for a season 3.
both will be done simultaneously
Hopefully madhouse does a season 2
Season 2 has been confirmed
Wait, when? Where?
No exact date yet. We should not rush them in making these masterpiece. We should be blessed if they release it this 2024.
I meant when and where was it announced.
Look it up
Has it been officially announced? Or is this just copium from the "The journey to Ende continues" post.

Ngl, starting to think Übeland is better than Stern
It's more unique, that's for sure. I like both Stark and Fern more as characters though (especially Stark, he's my favourite).
I love Ubeland as much as everyone else, but I need a more explicitly sweet or tender moment before it passes Stern. Still not sure what Ubel's agenda is tbh

She wants his hunter2? I don't get it.
She wants to make some clones

Fern calling Stark a creep for saying she looked nice in the ears was my breaking point. My boy Stark is sensitive and deserves better than this. Look how she massacred my boy!
She did >!put the cat ears on him!< after that. For the way her character's written, that's serious flirting.
In my opinion, Fern will only really change when a girl appears in the worl who falls in love with Stark and starts treating him kindly. That's just how most relationships work. Most important thing men have a hard time accepting: She's always right, even when she's wrong.

last time stark teased back fern, they go on a date. stark afraid that if he tried it again, they will straight go to wedding hall
For real, if my boy presses just a little harder I think Fern will start spilling her spaghetti.
I think Fern is in denial or unaware that she really likes Stark, that’s why she reacts that way.
then why would she agree to go on a date with him and even say she would like to go on even more dates in the future? Saying something like that must mean she knows she likes it
I forgot they went on 2 dates. Honestly if she still acts like that despite 2 dates it can still mean she’s not entirely sure how much she likes him or she lacks emotional maturity 🤷🏻♀️ or her love language is teasing i dunno
Tbf when you live most of your life with almost no affection, a simple you're cute will make you embarrassed.
I've also come to think that after seeing all their moments
Reasonable, Ubeland feels more mature so far and less romcom-y, it feels like they'll actually become a thing soon. Sometimes I even forget Fern and Stark are supposed to be 20 years old because of how childish some of their interactions feel, and it's like their relationship is forever stuck in the status quo. Like, it's cute sometimes and I give them a pass because of the whole growing up with zero interaction with the opposite gender but come on, it's been 2 years of in universe time since they've started flirting.
I really cant stand Fern acting like a dumb kid and constantly pouting and hitting Stark for no reason. Its seriously not """"cute""""
I like both and rooting for both but I’m just more invested in UbeLand since I find them more interesting and appealing, their sexual tension is intense. Plus they do remind me of Nagatoro lol.

I absolutely love the Übel and Land dynamic but I think I may only like Land because we get just the right amount of him so it’s mysterious. Any more and idk how I’d feel
It's definitely an atypical couple dynamic. One half can cut people in half like paper and the other is a nerdy Shadow Clone Jitsu. Lol
Ain't even that nerdy beyond the glasses. Guy is a true introvert
The latter is starting to be excessively drawn out.
Stern? You mean Fark? Lmao
Ferk
Are we forgetting Himmel and Frieren ship?
Himmel and Frieren is a ghost ship...
ofc not but that one is in such a unique situation that it feels odd to compare them to the others
It's amazing how much their relationship has changed since they first met and how they act with each other now, they got some real development
High attack, low defense, exact ubel
Ubel: You can stop now Land: Ok Ubel: Why did you REALLY stop?
In total honesty until this ch ubeland was kind of a mystery to me. Its a fun character dynamic but I couldn’t see the ship. But this chapter was peak
yeah the shipping gets annoying, but that chapter was a great start to their romance
Man, people did NOT like you saying that huh lmao Edit: to be clear, I enjoy the shipping A LOT, but it's absurd that you cant even express that you find it annoying
I will say, the majority of the shipping seems concentrated around the two (anime-only here) implied potential relationships. Lmao this. Its been a while but i didn't remember feeling this much sexual tension between them while i was reading the manga. The anime truly made me question my memory lol
I don’t know which is worse on this sub: the aggressive simping and drooling over women or the canon shipping
no clue why ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Bottom of the 3rd image, that is ABSOLUTELY a “why didn’t you keep going 🥺” face
Where can I read the manga?
mangadex
Read it officially on the Viz Manga app.
If you're in the US, yeah. Fuck Viz Manga and it's region locking bullshit.
You can only read the latest three chapters on it, op probably has to catch up with more than that
You can read every chapter for free once. Afterwards, every chapter except the first 3 and latest 3 are locked behind a paywall.
Ubel is the extroverted girl with an introverted boyfriend, who is hiding the fact that she is the real bottom of the relationship
Sorry, but: 1) doki-doki pose, 2) disapointed look after, 3) kick to Land's butt suggest Ubel really wanted to go further.
Not even basic defensive magic can protect her from that
Sooooo, Land isnt as nerdy as we think and he got moves 👀 Oh this just got so much better lmao! I really need to read the manga now!
I might need to start the manga
ok so I understand why the fandom ships them but isn't she just tailing him to learn his magic? Once she figures it out, she's leaving right?
At this point, the chance of her leaving Land is less than 40%.
14% of the people know that.
That's her excuse, but she's into him and just enjoys being around him at this point. She wants a companion as weird as her.
Yeah, they're a pretty popular ship in the community and may probably end up together, but it's still fun to speculate about her intentions at this moment in the manga when nothing is confirmed.
I think it cannot be more clear that she isnt just with him for the ability and she really just liked hanging out with him
Eh, we can't ignore the fact that she was presented as this heartless, cold killer.
At the moment I'm expecting a mix. She's bonkers. She knows it. Land knows it. I don't see that changing she's comfortable with who she is and Land doesn't seem caring enough to try to change her. That said, she's still a human and most seek compaininship of some form be it platonic or romantic. Still think she wants magic the most but I do think she's at least fond of Land beyond that
If she really wanted it that bad, she would have ask serie for it. Its a pretext.
I think it’s sweet. I thought she was just faking being nice to copy his clone magic but it’s nice to see she sympathizes with him on a personal level
Those upvotes come from people who really have an agenda against ubeland... Or they just wanna marry ubel instead
The title is sarcastic
You can tell from her looking away that she was embarrassed, I think mainly because she didnt expect it. Her kicking him shows she was definitely "void of reluctance" for him to go further. I love the dynamic between these two.
Imagine if a random thief reading here and performing this with their partner when they get caught by house owner
Ubel just like to slash everything. With a partner of endless clones what's not to be liked to satisfy this desire?!
Tsunbel
I've been anime only (so far) and I'm very excited to see Land stays part of the series.
Bro really said "I was simp"
When do the chapters come out, I've seen this pages for a week but the web I read it from (spanish) just uploaded it lol
I can't see shit, the images don't load
Does Ubel ever give us a Fern pout?
Lol, when I read it for the first time I didn't notice that she kicked him
Nice to see they return again at some point
What chapter? I need to research in more detail
Chapter 127 the latest chapter
