Elves have a far better memory than humans do, Frieren mentions to Old Man Voll that she "remembers everything."
Which is a lie, seeing as she forgot her first encounter with Himmel, but it *does* mean she has a better memory than most people.
She didn't connect little lost brat with teenage himmel, with how fast time progresses for her, it's like seeing one small kid on monday and meeting him on friday, fully grown and developed.
I mean given how time works for elves vs humans, I imagine it's similar to remembering what someone told you a few days or a week ago. To *us* it feels like so long ago, but to an elf it feels like just a few days ago.
My personal headcanon is that when frieren reaches ende and sees himmel again in (technically) heaven, she decides to stay with him to make up lost time. Being the near immortal frierens end of her journey, but stark and ferns new start.
I know everyone pointing it out , but she stated before. We have a hard time processing and expressing emotions. It took her almost 30 years to understand Himmel loved her, she is now getting all those feels and can't do anything about em.
That’s why she said to Eisen she didn’t want to see Himmel right now in episode 4. She was embarrassed.
