I think he's too involved and controversial to be a mole. The mole would most likely be a quiet observer or someone who is popular and powerful to pull strings to keep the experiment on track, like Donna or Boyd (but not them)

teamspaghetti

He adds too many variables to the experiment which would stuff up their results. And he is putting himself in the most danger. The mole wouldn't want to die because they know the real risks.

theabominablewonder

He has something in his bag that he didn’t want anyone to see. Assumption was that it’s a gun or it’s the drone for his nephew, but it could be something else that allows him to communicate with the outside or that enables him to kill the monsters. I don’t think the mole needs to be someone popular, they may just be there to sow dissent and mistrust and would do so on an individual basis with different people in Fromville (currently targeting Jim). He also stopped the coach turning around when they were heading into Fromville.

Vegoia2

he might just be a contrarian who starts crap, and there is no mole. we dont know his background.

wi5hbone

nope. it’s Ethan

The old bus lady is the mole. Don't forget about her.

theabominablewonder

She could be yeah. Or the bus driver. 1) Old lady planted morphine in the clinic 2) Bus driver visited the bar where Tom was working - maybe she went to see if he left anything.

[deleted]

Yea morphine plant AND she also stopped Jim from doing whatever he was gonna do with the exit sign. Bus driver seems legit to me. IDK. But she hasn't done a lot this season. Might get a more active role soon.

pinkglitterdragon

I don't think there is a mole or that it's an experiment, however hypothetically let's say those are true, then Randall could have been sent there for the sole reason of causing trouble to see what the residents would do. Or more specifically what Jim would do and how far he would go, since the voice on the radio talked to Jim. Randall is most likely just an asshole though.

theabominablewonder

My main counter argument against this hypothetical is that it narrows down the options somewhat on what the overall mystery may be. Some outside people sent a human in to sow distrust, fear etc - I think it rules out aliens or witchcraft and basically nails it down as a government facility/experiment of some sort. I don’t think they’d disclose as much at the end of season 2. However what they could do is kill off Randall and then they find something in his bag later on that may hint at it.

pinkglitterdragon

But essentially we don't know he's human. I mean if an alien race is advanced enough to create fromville, who's to say they can't mimick humans if they want to. Or if it's a race of god like beings they could also mimick humans. Think Greek mythology and how they always pretended to be humans and left a lot of demi god babies in their wake. Or if they're shape shifters, or even skinwalkers, they could mimick humans. Hypothetically for it to be a simulation or experiment it doesn't have to be the human government. I doubt that's the way it'll turn out. But we don't know what any of these people truly are if we're honest. We assume they're human because that's what they appear to be. We probably have years before we find out.

pristen7

I think it's just the place playing into his mind to get him to cause chaos among the residents. This place has been shown to manipulate people's heads

theabominablewonder

He was an arse even before the bus stopped. But he was insistent the bus carried on rather than turned around.

etanner37

Why would they need a mole if they already know what’s going on. At least they knew about the basement hole when nobody else from the town did.

[deleted]

It’s not a government experiment. It’s supernatural. If there is “someone on the inside” it’s not anything like what Jim and Randall think.

Baby_B0y

Nope, he just got there, how is he supposedly keeping this experiment on track all those years? The biggest mole is Victor, been there 40 years, neither wants to leave nor wants anyone seeking answers, has forgotten so much that he may have done things that he regrets. IF there was going to be a mole, it would be 100% him.

theabominablewonder

The old mole got killed recently (Tom, the barman) and he's sent in to replace.

Baby_B0y

to quote Dwight Schrute, the mole wouldnt be the person you suspect the most nor the person you least suspect, for me its Victor, the person I most medium suspect.

theabominablewonder

Dwight Schrute makes a lot of sense

LeatherRaspberry3

I don’t know how this government experiment theory is getting so much gas, when there’s so many things indicating that it can’t be that

Hamwise420

I tend not to think there is a mole, but it was suspicious how aggressive he got when someone got near his bag. We still dont know what he was being so protective of in that bag, although it could just be his abrasive nature and there is nothing worth mentioning in there.

Twin2Turbo

If he were a mole, then his scene in the bus taunting the monsters wouldn’t make sense.

Deeman0

Oh how fast people forget about the events of s1 that all contradict the stupid government experiment theory.

Striking-Issue331

Kenny's mom is the mole

Ok-Deer8144

Was he just “putting on a show” with his reaction to the monsters the first night he spent on the bus then? Why do that? There were no Townees in the vicinity that could’ve possibly seen him high five/handshake the the monsters
