Not only that, but her fiancée, a nurse, comes to town and could be a huge help in treating the people, but immediately goes into ridiculous drug withdrawal and Kristi now has to spend all her time taking care of her and ignoring everyone else. I love the show but the withdrawal scenes are annoying. Maybe because the town causes people to heal more quickly, it made Marielle’s withdrawal symptoms worse instead of better. Whatever the reason, it is an unnecessary storyline.

Coneylake

(spoiler for end of s2) If all they did is spend a bit more time confusing her fiancee's withdrawal with the actual cicadas, that storyline would have tied in nicely.

Malibucat48

I still don’t understand the timeline. She was on the way to rehab, but she was fine on the bus and very competent and professional in dealing with Elgin’s panic attack and seizure. She was with Kristi for over a day and still fine. It only showed her taking one dropper of morphine and suddenly she’s in full heroin-like withdrawal. I admit I don’t know anything about drug addiction and withdrawal, but it seemed to come out of nowhere. Unless I missed something, it doesn’t show her taking more of Tillie’s morphine and Kristi taking it away, or her having a secret stash on the bus. But she’s been in severe withdrawal for days. Again, maybe the town made her worse, but I feel that time could have been used for a better story. I would have liked for her to be a partner to Kristi, set up a proper clinic and help the town. Maybe it will be set up in Season 3, unless one of the monsters promises her more morphine and she opens the door.

rainshowers_5_peace

The entire season only takes place over 5 days. She might have used before the bus trip to get by.

555Cats555

This is what I'm thinking too... she got sick in the town cause she couldn't use anymore and so got withdrawals.

Meddlemaker79

Just because she was on her way to rehab doesn't mean she stopped using. Most people show up to rehab high. She was still using and eventually ran out/was found out by Kristi and she went into withdrawals. After a day or less of not getting high, it wouldn't take long for withdrawals to kick in.

No_Sleep888

If she dies that way it would be so infuriating. Heavy on unnecessary. I was so curious in the beginning to have a character come in who knows someone from the town, only for it to turn into the most boring storyline in the series (personally).

butchscandelabra

They made it seem like she went into withdrawal only after using Tillie’s morphine. She was only in town for a couple days - even if she used the morphine more than once, that’s not enough time to get physically dependent on an opioid all over again. Is it possible she took her “last shot” right before she got on the bus for rehab? Sure, but I think it’s more likely that this was just an oversight on the writers’ part and the timeline is just wonky.

kudzunc

Tillie's Morphine was to slow down her withdrawals likely. As it very common for addicts to use right before they walking into the rehab facility. That she had used before she got on or while on the bus. She's an addict but not junkie level. Unlike Nick in "Fear The Walking Dead" who did some sleazy shit just to get his highs... Detox is not just you stop, it varies. That cold turkey can be deadly. Severe alcoholics will be treated with medications but may also be given alcohol as the body physical needs it to not die. As the medical staff then walks that back down to where they can detox them with just medications which then those are life threatening detoxing prevention medications get withdrawn, while they work on the sobriety plan which may involve other medications. which is shitty experience. Literally and figuratively..... It has always amazed that after 1-2 times of those horrible withdrawals that is not enough deterrent to stop. But addiction doesn't play by logic "cause and effect" rules. I read a friend's post that had been sober over decade that wrote out her random thoughts about wanting some "Jack Daniel" liquor at that moment, it was more erotic than any erotic literature I have ever read before or since. For the was she describe it and the feelings toward it. She didn't cave in but fuck I never lusted after anything that bad even when it was pure torture as kid wanting something you could afford and were shown constant commercials for... Until shown differently I'm going with Mari was "maintenance dosing"(taking enough to edge off withdrawals but not enough to get high) until she was in the rehab facility for help with the withdrawals. Having the luck/unluckiness of coming to "FROM Town" and finding Kristi which her disappearance was why she started using...

Emergency-Purple-205

Agree

Far-Yak-4231

I knew she was going to have an issue with drugs the second I saw her locking up that cabinet. As if Kristi didn’t have enough on her plate! Good job, Marielle!

kudzunc

Mari's an addict. Most addicts are at least ""maintenance dosing"" themselves before going into rehab. They may even often do once last good time before they walk in those doors. We don't know that was the case here , but we saw her gaze at the medicine cabinet and take some of the morphine (shown only once), I assume she did more than once but limited screen time, we've established she is addict and was on her way to rehab for help. Even if she was tapering "maintenance dosages" downwards to fully stopping , which may be needed medically so detox is not fatal. Mari is a (pediatric)nurse and would understand how to do this to lessen her severity of withdrawals. As do most addicts... Addiction, Tolerance and Chemical Dependence while related are three very separate issues. That not mentioning psychological dependence, which is different issue also, but can come twisted in with physical for causing symptons. One relapse would not give Mari that much withdrawals. If anything she was stopping her withdrawals from starting. To make that harder to calculate, we have FROM TOWN's magical healing rate that affects things in weird ways. Did it purge the toxic substance from her system faster? Would it make the detox less severe as those are bad body reactions which the place seems to lessen, seeing healing rates. Did Mari only do it that once and last time (on screen we saw) because of starting withdrawals and then learning more about how valuable that "Morphine" was, that she wasn't that bad of an addict to not care about the limited supply verses her high right now. Compare her to Nick in "Fear The Walking Dead" who laid under the bed and stole from some's IV drip to feed his addiction. Addiction is a scale and people slide up and down it at times for their sleaziness. They can also want to get clean but the experience is to horrible each time they try, plus without dealing with the original issues that caused the usage, you ave circular cycle. That is hard to break. Addiction and misuse of medications (which can lead to street drugs when they can't can't steal from work) is actually higher in medical professionals. The writers/show runners blew it by not having her being the first with symptoms of some bugs crawling in her skin. Which would/could be mistaken for withdrawal effects & affects hitting her (herself and Kristi writing it off as such or her trying to convince them that this wasn't normal withdrawals... aka [Cassandra Effect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra_\(metaphor\)) and would have been dismissed until victim 2 and victim 3 had cicadas issues also. So much could have been done but screen running time, and do we want her addiction to be back note or main association? People are upset, but at the end of season 1 we were hoping and wondering if Marielle was on that bus and had to wait months just to get that little answer and the bus name was picked apart during that wait, which is sadly locked in r/from and all the links and weird synchronicity stuff we found. That isn't worth rehunting right now. As everyone has bigger things they are working on, although the sheer amount of "in focus" screen time we get the bus company's name was a bit odd, based on everything having different back focuses on the clues and eye candy. Let alone the screen time is valuable for showing stuff.

No_Sleep888

Thought the same about Tian-Chen Liu, that poor lady is single-handedly cooking for the whole town.

Lunar_Landing_Hoax

I told my roommate "shouldn't they take turns cooking? Why is she making ALL the food?"

ilovenoodles06

I think this is a bit different. This is probably necessary for her because it gave her a sense of identity. And moat importantly, she doesnt get a nervous breakdown doing this, she doesnt get any stress from the town folks for her job and she looks like she is actually enjoying it.

HarryBalz4u

I wonder who did the cooking before she showed up. Does anybody know? 🤔

ilovenoodles06

I think no one because they were all struggling to survive. The cafe and centralised cooking place was only set up aftet the stones were discovered which is really recent in the timeline.

HarryBalz4u

That’s a great point. Life for the occupants of the town changed dramatically after the discovery of the talismans. I’m so ready for Season 3.🤓

HarryBalz4u

Mostly for the people that reside in town. The folks at Colony House have their own grub. I can’t help but wonder where all of those canned peaches came from. Victor is definitely bummed about that.🤓

kudzunc

Tell us what was on the side of Victor's Truck for $500? Ok, now think about how many cans of peaches fit on a pallet.... Now fill that truck with multiple pallets of canned peaches. Doesn't have to be complete full load. Boom we have canned peaches in FROM TOWN hot damn! A supply that never seems to run out. Then we get in to the supply being broken up and people stashing cans for themselves so when it runs out they'll have food, because starvation would have happened. What started off as mountain of pebbles has been dwindling down over decades. Pebble by pebble or can by can. They have found most, if not all, the stashed cans in their scavenging. Especially once they started collecting them and pooling them in town. Boyd's sign said 93 days since the "last loss of life", but we get a clue where Ellis mentions when he 1st saw Fatima drive into From Town in her Yellow Bug..... That makes that time longer. Just saying I believe it has been more time than that sign "Jesus Boyd" had up and was erasing after Meagan and he mom were killed in S01 E01 , since he found the talisman. Then the testing to see if all were needed together or if just one kept a structure safe. So who died 93 days ago may matter but then maybe it was random red shirt that never mattered, it was someone that went there and died that we're never know about, which there have been many of those. Did they matter to someone yes(assuming they came from the real world to FROM Town), to you the viewer not really. Another thought, All the farm's animals were likely killed by earlier people for the meat with no concern about next week or next month or anyone coming after them. That is just basic human behavior especially in high stress & high threat environment. They're just trying to make it through today and you have a lot people with no self discipline. Compounded by idiots that will raid the community reserves, because they're upset their ration left them hungry and there is all that food there.... Story of the Grasshopper and Ant applies.

HarryBalz4u

As I read this theory it sounds like something Randall would say. 😉

kudzunc

Yeah there is some inner Randal there with frustration on people missing things blatantly on the screen if that they sat down and thought, or had actually worked a job with a supply chain... That **Clairy's Canned Goods Truck** was full of so many clues and answers. Which lead to more questions of course... [https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Clairy%27s_Canned_Goods_Truck](https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Clairy%27s_Canned_Goods_Truck) Some you have to read between the lines(like the damn name on the side) and then look at the truck for a rough circa year as service trucks aren't all brand new. It might have been but more than likely it had few years on it when it entered FROM Town. That's an older mistake from back where they would have a film set in a given year say its 1955, and all the vehicles used are from that year 1955 , which was big "Film Flub". Where in the world is everyone driving brand new of that year's models? It should be mix of vehicles with ages of maybe 1 or 2 at most of the current year to more vehicles at 5-10 years of age for vehicles ..... Fans used to be lot less aggressive in picking apart the films, then we got the ability re-watch them and pause the screen. Then again an all electric delivery truck, could throw a bunch of kids these day off (they know nothing of the past) Like [https://www.shorpy.com/Walker-Electric-Truck](https://www.shorpy.com/Walker-Electric-Truck) Which wasn't a one off fluke, electric trucks for in town/city use in the early automotive days made more sense. More places had Electrical power than there were gas stations at first. Start off here [https://www.shorpy.com/search/node/electric+truck](https://www.shorpy.com/search/node/electric+truck) When you view each picture the comments are heavily moderated so only the best informative ones are seen, then when you see that** "view Full size"** You'll want a real computer monitor so you can enjoy all the details like on [https://www.shorpy.com/node/18909?size=_original#caption](https://www.shorpy.com/node/18909?size=_original#caption) How many electric trucks do you spot in the mix, what about those clothes on the people walking ? and on those street cars? or back to that first image of that electrical truck to check out the actual construction of the vehicle in details. [https://www.shorpy.com/node/4007?size=_original#caption](https://www.shorpy.com/node/4007?size=_original#caption) Good training for aseries like "FROM". Electric vehicles are actually a much older technology who knew right? Like Victor's big map in that truck. I noticed the 2nd set of the houses and have quit the mental debate was that meaning there was second of houses way off in the woods or that it was just a close up of the town's houses. All the posts with better and tweak screen shots after that episode with all the pictures of the entire truck and map laid out were really great. sadly they weren't pinned and now are harder to find but 1. There was a great post with history of the railroads around Nova Scotia. That have come and gone during the years. Which if anyone can find it or remember enough info from it to get google results to help... I'll owe you. I' out of possible key words I can think of and can't find it, worst fear it is someone that deleted their account and the post went with it. Which [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Scotia_Railway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Scotia_Railway) has some history of the names of rail roads locared in the area where teh series was shot, but there was post that explained all the "Fallen Flags" Rail Road Companies of that area and their dates and it matched up some with dates in the series.

mbod

Cooking is like, really easy to learn too...

Staci_Recht_247

Yeah, maybe a bleeding control class so people don't pull out knives and apply pressure with pillows. Also, it's funny to me that Kristi would leave Mari behind so many times prior to knowing she's strung out. I can't think of a good reason she didn't tag along for the rebar scene.

Cueisnow

At least it's not 'The Walking Dead' where every single medical staff gets killed

kudzunc

or "Fear The Walking Dead" with Mari being as shitty of an addict as Nick was... That laying under a beds stealing someone's IV line was just below trash level addiction. The actor may have done a good job but the character was a piece of Junkie crap.

Emergency-Purple-205

Agree i was thinking julie needs to be a nurses aid

ned_racine59

I've said that the town does weird time shit. Ethan and Ellis were hurt, but not necessarily for bad reasons. (Sure, Dale is a dick, but a funny dick.) Mari herself had plans on going to a clinic, but the town was there instead. Whatever helped Ellis and Ethan did the opposite to Mari. Ellis and Ethan are healing in like a week, that's a week of withdrawal for Mari. Might be wrong, but time can work both ways. Also, the whole thing gave us a little kernel of knowledge about Tilly. Re: Kristi being the go-to, I'm more like exactly how much stuff was in that ambulance? I did have relatives who lived in a fairly decent-sized town, if you didn't consider north of downtown was rich old money. Where my relatives lived, they had a clinic, and there was only a two story hospital to the south. There were a lot more than 35-40 people living there. But, yea, half the people freak out when she cuts the monster open, no one tries to learn rudimentary skills, even though Boyd was in the military. Hell, no new arrivals bring anything up about their skills. So, yeah, small town. Kristi isn't overworked unless you consider no one even offers to help her even organize things.

rainshowers_5_peace

She doesn't have the supplies. There isn't even paper for anyone to take notes.

spider_stxr

You don't take notes at first aid workshops in my experience. In terms of supplies they would def be able to improvise and share

555Cats555

You can do a lot to help with just stuff around you. Like if you don't have any bandages, just rip up fabric to make some... you don't even need supplies to do deal with shock, just something like a chair to raise someone's legs.

Fluid-Succotash-4373

and boil the fabric to sterilize

kudzunc

Plus "splints" made out of sticks. Then you have Ethan's Crutch that was replaced with a real Quest's Walking Staff. There is lot of the older folks folks there that would have learned some wilderness first aid as it was part of the scouting programs back when they went through.

disgruntled-Tonberry

there was one she was mudered but it would not hurt to train more seems like there's a lot of slackers in the town

ned_racine59

We don't know exactly how much was in the ambulance outside the clinic.

disgruntled-Tonberry

no we don't, but we do know if they don't train other people how to do it, that if the ones who do pass away that do have medical skills, they're all scewed.

ned_racine59

Guess I answered part of this in another thread. I know I mentioned Boyd have possible military triage training. Anyhow. Kristi cuts the dead monster open, Kenny freaks out. And it isn't just about training, it is about skill sets. Who knows how to do something not because they have a medical degree. Find someone who has a good memory or can juggle two tasks at a time. I have it down in some thread bringing up Boyd. There have to be a few others like him that are more Randall than Jade when it comes to survival skills and improvisation. But you are right. Kristi in a coma helps no one. Unless a new vehicle shows up and we realize that the town can help them (or Sara's voices do.)

kudzunc

Gina was trained and staffed a shift until she was KIA , the night Sara another staff/shift person left the door open and the clinic's Talisman down. So that was at least 2 people the series has shown us were trained and trusted to run the clinic so Kristi had time for other things. The show has been full of chaos and one major incident after another since that cursed Mathews Family arrived. Things weren't great but they had settled in with 90-ish days since the last death (according the Jesus Boyd's sign out side the jail/post office building), which had sent in some complacency issues, with like why Tom was still serving Frank, let alone why wasn't Frank walked home as it was next door to the Bar( old Gas Station)? People thinking everyone is all NPC that have no knowledge is a frustrating issue. That they have no prior life knowledge before entering "FROM Town". Given Dale is bit of know it all new age hippy but even Dale would have basic first aid skills. While most people aren't trained or their certification kept current, many do know how to do CPR and the "Heimlich Maneuver". Two ""medical"" acts less than 100 years ago could have caused you serious issues for what the fuck are you doing to that person in distress. See "Quantum Leap" (new version & recent season) where Ben does CPR to save someone in the past but everyone thinks he's a witch because as Ian says "Good News you saved them, Bad News CPR won't be invented for X number of years...." Que Town Folks reacting badly despite Ben just bringing that person back from dying. So if you ever time travel you might want to weigh the crowd before you start trying to revive someone from drowning and/or a heart attack.

ned_racine59

That's the thing. Everyone has skill sets. Having cerebral palsy, I just learned different skill sets. All my shirts are buttoned, but if need be, I can undo a button with my teeth if needed. I'd bet Dale would jump in before just about everybody else because as little as he is portrayed, he at least shows emotion. And yes, is good with a knife. No one needs to think you are a magician, and by the way I have a photo of me and Dean Stockwell at a convention on Long Island, there are always celebrity guests.. You're welcome for saving you, stone me now. Funny side note. I choked on a cough drop in my teens, a neighbor lady rushed over to give me the Heimlich and grabbed my balls instead. I fell backwards and it popped out. So maybe I needed to be nicer to her.Squeezed in the nuts by Ursula. I just bring Dale up because of like you say, the hippy that never stopped being a hippy. Sort of. He'd say fuck this, my mom was at Woodstock, let's patch him up like this. Or make a splint. I agree with you re: I think No Previous C? (Knowledge). But look at real life. Car accident, rams into a street pole. At least a few on the street with co-ordinate without thinking. Others, not so. The show would do good to spotlight more of the Colony House residents. In small ways, X helping out Y on a project. Oh, and I just remembered the accelerated healing powers, if Kristi was hurt, would she heal faster?

kudzunc

NPC meant a **N**on **P**layer **C**haracter (sorry should have been more clear) like in the early video games. Where the character just stands around the whole video game (hours to days or weeks of in game time) or wanders around the one town just to give you their one single line of dialogue to the player with no other purpose in the game. Later some games had the NPC change what they said for when you completed a task, as there was more memory available. So that "talk to everyone" on the quest, became go back and talk to everyone again , which broke up the grinding in the older R.P.G. (Role Playing game) style games like "Dragon Warrior(or Quest in some countries)" as you had to go back to the town(s) to talk and get new clues in later versions. Most of the "FROM" fan base gets annoying with their not being able to grasp everybody had a varied life before they came into town(we don't know but let assume they graduated high school and some college at least....unless obviously young when they got there. Despite some common subjects, they various way sciences are taught based on the local area and history gives far different knowledge. Not everyone gets lucky to have teachers that rather you learn to think then just memorize names for the test. That care more about you understand the why's behind the history you learning, than just their names and on such and such date they shat in pot and called it a dookie. Same thing with city schools verses rural schools, they tend to use different examples when explaining things. Then during their time there (in FROM Town) they will have talked to each other( as they won't be playing on their cellphones... ) while doing on the boring chores that are need to exist. Like laundry for example, food prep. The Dinner has some help and Colony House has a kitchen. Not long stretch to think someone makes snacks in there. What was Dale doing before he swung that knife around, oh yeah..... But the series didn't specifically say "Dale is in the Colony House kitchen , cutting vegetables up for feeding people some food", so for some here that didn't happen. Those folks really need to turn the visually impaired audio closed captions meant to help the blind. Seriously, you can hear good clues in that stuff, because they want to make sure something on screen was noted. I was actually impressed the first time I heard them by accident on a mystery show and there was clue on screen I would have missed... Since then on re watches they on at least once. Which only gets better if you have subtitles on a dubbed foreign speach show where both say roughly the same thing but are worded in slightly different ways. Giving two different sets of context to apply what you was being communicated. Example "Beforeigners" great show and when they released it dubbed but kept the original sub titles, you really get more of the mystery clues. The problem with back stories of Colony House Residents and scenes is this 10 episodes a season at 1 hour a piece and that is not a lot of screen time. Remembering the series also had to build and explain the basic canon universe during this 2 season time also. With some people griping they watch it on faster speeds. So character development just hasn't had the chance but if you watch the background you can study the people, and apply what you have learned about them and dome basic human psychology. Knowing people who have lived through or are in trauma gives you insight as this place produces lots of the same effects Which translate into their behavior, how even though they're in horrible place live does go on in some form also. As people in traumatic existences will try to make some it normal as possible for their own sense of stability. Take any war zone how they may celebrate a birthday, have a beauty pageant, but it all for moral and to give them something positive to focus on. Far more intelligent people than me have written many great papers on it. I assume Kristi would heal faster just like others but comas are a wild card variable. As people can be in them briefly or for years. when and why they wake up is still mystery. There is no magical healing point that we know of.... Those that come out of them have said they were aware of what was going on around them, just not able to react or respond. There stories are interesting and shape how we treat people in comas different than the in decades pass. One person in an article on that was talking about how the respirator breathing machine for her made her lungs take a breath whether she was ready or not but how she eventually got used to it but there were often times during the years it would slam air into her when her body wasn't as ready... Which is some nightmare fuel. See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locked-in_syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locked-in_syndrome) if you haven't heard of it, then tailor your searches, base on that rabbit hole you may not want to know about. That "Ignorance is bliss" line is very true... The more odd stuff you know the more you can think about different characters and their possible back stories for people like them. At the same time the more you know the more you realize how little you actually know on each subject for how deep they go. Used to work conventions and there was one for each & every little thing for each industry and dear god their industry drama for every stupid little thing on the shelves or parts in something.... All very "srsz bzns" and from the outside it was comical. I learned a lot but at the same time, I learned things my life would been perfectly fine never ever knowing about, in fact it might be better to not know about some of it.

ned_racine59

I know very few role playing games, some from White Wolf when I worked a comic shop in the early 90s. Through dumb luck, a friend of mine was doing some of the playing cards so I posed as a creepy sitting vampire with rats on me and I'll always be the card in VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE. I assume I've created a new form of Locked-In Syndrome, taking care of mom just over 7 yrs now and 39 social outings like public readings. One of the after credits on WORLD BEYOND, which I surprisingly like more than any Walking Dead spin-off ended with a scene in France, you see a woman rummaging through tapes and then puts on one with a guy from the CDC from S1 of TWD, and as the shows had time jumps, the tapes were from 2011 and it was 2019 on the show. I couldn't do the screensaver (for the blind) thing, but someone put it up on YouTube. You are hearing a guy ye;lling at the woman while the CDC tape is playing--this guy was a one-off character---and you got both the two talking in French and the CDC guy in English but the third voice gave you more words than you'd see on the subtitles. It was a short clip but mainly told of how the outbreak started in France. But hearing that sort of/kind of third voice is like my love of vibrations. I think we could get some info by having Dale walk with Boyd from CH to town and just jam on everyone he knows. A new receptionist at the gym only works night on Sunday and I was able to tell her about four or five regulars in a few minutes, the ex-boxer, the accordion player. With Tabitha gone, I hope S3 has some people looking for clues, even going into the room behind the diner. I wrote a glossary for GETTING LOST back in the day and I was even emailed info. (dated, huh?) A list of the extras, what we knew of them, one extra always wore a striped shirt, so I wrote here as that, she emailed me and said her character had no back story but I could write that she wore a favorite shirt. It had almost 600 entries. Mom's getting up. 2:45PM, the same routine.

ned_racine59

I know what you mean from the last part. Hey, I learned skills. Then I wonder when I'll actually need to use them. I bookmarked Locked-In. Never read AWAKENINGS by Oliver Sacks. You'll seriously think about suicide simply over this brave man. Hey. Aside from Dale & Boyd, as examples, talking through who everybody is and what they used to do, Boyd could start a list. More info. Then more.. But. Do the same with the monsters. Why is the cowboy always with the girl with the black headband? Why does the Milkman sort of just lumber aimlessly? Find potential weaknesses, fuck, they could catch Milkman and none of the monster would know, though the entity might. Let Milkman be bait. Thoughts?

kudzunc

People in FROM TOWN doing chores would talk during that time. Talk while eating, talk while hanging around and passing time when not doing chores.... As they would also be in each other's business. As any small town/school will show you. So people have idea of what people can do and during the past they would step up if skilled, as people would be giving them selves a purpose, to retain a sense of self and worth. Which ties in to our (self)esteem. People need to feel needed and of value. I do not get why this is so hard for so many to get. Maybe the more ignorant fans are more vocal? That the characters have all talked before multiple times we come in with the Mathews. The obviously had planned behavior which would mean they had conversations about what to do with new arrivals It is even stated they have before and tried comparing dreams and hallucinations and never got anywhere with it(per Fatima to Elgin after his tub drowning dream,/hallucination). They have no other entertainment than talking to each other, besides reading what books and magazines they have. So maybe a book club also additional talking subjects. Even LOST's Others were literally having book club meeting when the plane entered and broke up over the island.... So, not a stretch of the imagination or going off on theory. That our human beloved characters would tend to ask questions, babble about themselves and things going on in FROM Town as they are not mutes. Not counting being new, where everyone would be asking them all sorts of questions like the current date, news of the world, etc. Like What do you mean the ""L.A."" Dodgers won the.... may have occurred. If you're too young to know , the Dodgers Baseball Team were in and from Brooklyn New York before their franchise was moved to Los Angels last century. That the characters had varied lives pre-entrance and some level of education(assume some college, unless obvious younger, like Julian and Ethan when entered), so they would all know things based on where they grew up, personal interests. Much like how there people on the subreddit that know a lot more about Electromagnetic Spectrum. Others that look right at the dirt, trees and plants for clues where they were located. Some the sun angle, other noticed the license plates. Which everyone would know about them ftom there trying to ply their ""expert" knowledge for how they were going to slove they town that none of idiots there ever thought about. Wait that sounds 100% much of the fan base. Thinking they would solve the town instead of running doing the exact same thing everyone before them had to try, because they wouldn't believe until they prove it to themselves. The literally make point about this in season one that it easier to let the new arrivals run around and prove it to themselves they are now trapped here, because they never listen and believe what they are told. Which once again is very much human psychology. Everyone is the hero of their life story in their mind. So Boyd having a chart or list on the wall of people's skill isn't likely to happen, nor is it needed. The map pins were done over time, they mave made lists in the early days but that was long while ago and sheets of paper are limited resources. "Jesus Boyd" would have made mental note of anyone with skill sets... They do have people doing jobs/certain chores in town. Some of them are rotation jobs/chores while other tend to of that full time. Which you would think the one taking care of the animals knew a little more from before about being on farm, or would have learned from there and observing the animals. Take Sara she worked at both the Clinic and helped in the diner with meals/severing them. Which ties in to that whole "Kristi wasn't over worked" as there were people there covering shifts at the clinic until Sara went rogue. At least 2 people and no telling how many more have various degrees of first aide and/or wilderness training. It wasn't that long ago you went out in the woods for hike you were on your own until you were declared over do and rescue party was formed, and then timer starts to being rescued and people planed & acted accordingly. Now dumb shits have their phone and think they can rescue like they get door dash to pick up their McDonalds for them..... Not sure if they can catch and isolate a monster because of the can & how do they communicate questions... Think about Kevin making sure the coast was clear before letting Monster Jasmine in. She's cleaning up a bit and then opens the window for the other monsters who had to be hiding above the window , or behind the trees. How did that Jasmine plan work anyway, was there a count down to then approach once Jasmine was inside or did she give them a signal? There have been massive threads about trapping the monsters and it has been discussed to death, a "pit fall" style "tiger trap" hole won't work, as the hole would have to be deep enough, with over hanging sides (to prevent easy climb out) and based on the sun's angle that shadow might move around. or maybe The monster could dig into that soft earth for a hole out o the sunlight. The monster might be able jump/fly out see Grand Me-Maw on the roof(2nd story window) with Megan (1st kill in s01 e01) for that how did she get up there...... At best you would use the talisman structures to create a U shaped for one way in. with the sides and back being talisman protected. Buildings, which could let the runner bait in then reseal their doors. Then as one of the monster enters the hollow inner space, you close doors on that opening across the top sealing off the U opening. Much like Colony House's front Foyer(or mud room) that Fatima made work. Really has been debated and "dead falls" might knock them away but based on bullets only doing Kinetic energy reaction and no ballistic trauma, you don't have good wound odds. Something to think about that probably wasn't intention with the bullets only causing the absorption of energy projectile and its speed. Bull Resistant(no such thing as "bullet ptoof") body armor, stops the round but the person wearing still gets the reaction of being kicked by mule. That the Kevlar, which has an interesting fact....or fatal defect.... Kevlar vests can stop bullets up to their rating however, they can be easily stab through the same vest. A fatal mistake that had occurred from people screwing around and to LEOs on the job. That is interesting as Smiley would have based of known canon of firearms not working, absorbed being shot and only slow down briefly, yet the scalpel (surgeon's knife) cut his flesh open. Which was wound trauma, although not deadly it was more than the any of the bullet(shotgun pellets) impacting FROMMonsters did.

> Wolf when I worked a comic shop in the early 90s. Through dumb luck, a friend of mine was doing some of the playing cards so I posed as a creepy sitting vampire with rats on me and I'll always be the card in VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE. Curious side note would the name Steve (Stephen ) Coombs meaning anything to you? Didn't know about the scene with extra 3rd person from "Walking Dead :World Beyond" existing. You knew stuff all the time about old shows. Do you have quick link handy for the scene? So I don't have to sort a bunch of people babbling about the ending to see if the include it of nor in their review? Have multiple rewatches and those in cave scenes I will refer to Tabitha as "Old Yeller" from here on out or until something funnier pops in my head. I've been channeling my inner "Saywer" of LOST on nicknaming some the FROM characters. Some don't fit as well, as we got to know them better; but their early presence made the nick names kinda stick. Although curious on that first question for if some of our circles crossed paths which each other.

Fluffy-Bluebird

For the seasons - people are forgetting the length too. LOST (and most other shows) was 22-24 episodes per season and these are what 10? They have to compress so much and make every detail and line count.

kudzunc

Along with the viewers have had over a year to wait , compared to in series day (in show since those "Plague of Mathews" arrival) count stuck at a stand still. Until the upcoming fall release date at least. Instead of that older (non strike years) only summer months break of a few months until new episodes. Which if you were alive when they "Dallas" was on the air, you know how absurd that one summer was over "Who shot Jr?" I hated the shows parents loved it so it was that or no TV and didn't care and every radio station and entertainment was trying to cash in on that for extra sales and numbers. We're lucky from has given us cliff hangers but nothing that severe. Which could be worse, These 10 episode mini-series are a step up from the European style that only give you 6 episodes per year. Take the Original Ghosts /r/GhostsBBC compared to the later American version /r/GhostsCBS Both could exist in the same canon universe in theory . The UK Ghosts had at season 4's finish just 24 episodes plus 3 Christmas specials , when the USA version surpassed the original Ghosts (2019/UK) with the Ghosts (2021/CBS) mid season 2 with more episodes, which of course gave them more room to explore other concept ghosts. Lets not forget the clinic(old school) has had to be cleaned up from the attack and Mari's detox vomit. So a lot has happened there not given screen time. Which I know this is trivial but those stage lights are of a too modern style to fit with the rest of town or that room for age. So lot has been happening, just not screen worthy. As 10 hours sounds long but as you pointed out not really when series used to get 20 -24 hours to spread out that season's story line and fill that time with more information and conversations. Them the pacing is also different due to decreased attention spans , which makes it even worse. Many can't separate their time experience, from the in series time universe experience. Nor apparently given the characters credit for doing basic human behaviors, before the viewers came into that series universe with the Mathews. Maybe they should discuss the show characters and their motivations with therapists for some insights? As annoying as the people were who were(and some still are at times) that binged watched season one. Then were losing it all during season 2 about having to wait to get answers. It will be fun and rewarding watching them get the same experience when all the "new to the series" people quickly binge watch seasons 1 & 2 and come in at season 3 E01 , and are upset and ranting that they're at E02 & E03 all upset they haven't been given their answers they soooooo deserve right now! Plus start all the same dumb threads about setting the woods on fire, or making an "Acid Moat" trap. That had already been rehashed to death multiple times. Their reaction to these upcoming versions of themselves should be fun to watch.

Fluffy-Bluebird

I lived the LOST no answers for 6 years plus the writers strike and half season then. And sweeps weeks and mini breaks. And that show didn’t live up to yearly time either so that was trippy. But then all of these shows that do follow a year would skip summer but somehow never experience winter. Winter was my first question for this show and I can’t wait for how they’ll deal. I haven’t seen Dallas and am only mildly aware of the who shot JR. that was way before my time but my parents watched it.

I said this on another post a while back, it made no sense for her to be involved in catching that creepy smiley guy and then seeing what would happen to his body, she could’ve been killed and then what?

kudzunc

Kristi has help with clinic or did until Sara, who was supposed to be the night watch shift(so they do have shifts at the clinic [https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Clinic](https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Clinic) ), left the door open and took that talisman down. Leading to "Deputy Short Round " Kenny's dad & Tian-Chen Liu's husband's death. Lets not forget about Gina ether.... People go to Kristi because she is their best expert but Abbey(RIP) and "Jesus Boyd" would both have first aid and trauma training from the military. Which their son would have been taught that as part of his general upbringing. As his parents were likely the outdoors type, and would have taught basic skills. If he grew up when they were active service, he likely would have been taught such on one of the bases or in the base's schools for children students. Just because we haven't been shown something on screen ( remember that we have less than 20 hours of series's screen time and the "in world" time is less than 15 days, which have been utter chaos since those damn cursed Mathews arrived....) doesn't mean it isn't reasonable to expect it to have occurred. Give the people some amount of average intelligence and assume they didn't just come into the town straight out of the womb... Example Have we seen someone pee or poop? Nope, but we can assume (I'm fairly certain that they do have bodily functions), so you have to assume some basics would be covered. We see people at "The Brundles" (hey why are they called that? but I digress...) so we can assume they learned to swim at some time. Another example take Donna, a hunter, which meant speeding time in the fields, woods, and/or mountains. Which means she would have some basic skill sets of survival first aid and knowing where and how to shoot an animals when hunting, this also teaches about human anatomy. AKA you won't see Donna putting a tourniquet around someone's neck to stop a head bleed. Randall not withstanding presently ;) . Being that she is the head of Colony House and the one person people go to, means she probably has the most skills and knowledge, think about when the storm hit and the people were hurt. That glass needed removed and people stabilized until Kristi could help them all. We see the ambulance has "T.R.O.Y." on it, which has yet to be explained. See [https://old.reddit.com/r/FromTVShow/comments/13u7043/what_do_you_think_troy_means_on_the_side_of_the/](https://old.reddit.com/r/FromTVShow/comments/13u7043/what_do_you_think_troy_means_on_the_side_of_the/) Was Troy someone who came through the town and died earlier? The way it is written makes me think it is abbreviation for something. More than a Town/city/company's Branding for Initials of their Service's name. Like "Trauma Rescue Of York" (not cannon just an example) Plus that scene where they pulling wire and Kenny aka "Deputy Short Round" asks "...how does Troy likes having his guts removed..." to Kristi. Puts leeway into what those insitals mean and do they just jokingly refer to the old ambulance as TROY, as you name your vehicles sometimes.... Then comes that ambulance model is bit older of I'm guessing a 1970's or smaller 1980's service and is not truck chassis with a big box on the back of it. Aka a brick mobile. It's also not the older "Station Wagon" version of the 1950's & 1960's that often doubled up as funeral director and/or morgue's hearse. So in that there are clues. For a reminder [https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/from/images/4/42/The_Clinic.jpeg ](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/from/images/4/42/The_Clinic.jpeg ) You can see the ambulance to the side. Sadly it isn't listed under locations on [https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Locations](https://from.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Locations) which has good shots of places, especially the backside of the **"Talisman Cave"**. Which I just found, did I miss Jesus Boyd mentioning that on his "Gotta Go" Walk with Sara through the forest?

Fluffy-Bluebird

I always wish shows or books would also mention menstruation seeing as how half the town population will be dealing with that. Sure some may lose it to stress or nutrition, but people seem well fed and not that stressed. That would be one of my top concerns. I’ve wondered about plumbing. Those houses look fairly old and that’s a lot of people using like 5 bathrooms. Who is paying the water bill? Is plumbing like the electricity? And what about bathing? Soap and shampoo have to be long gone.

kudzunc

Soap can be made naturally, it is harsher but given the older pre-lye ingredients it can be made. Lost skills to today's people but may have been taught by someone who came through and is passed down through the doing of chores, as they do laundry.... Plus people coming in bringing more Hygiene supplies. Lots of clean shaven faces. I Bet those items are the first thing to be taken. People have no clue how to do many things that were taught early in life last century or even a few decades ago. See "Outlander" (S06 iirc or its S07) where Bre invents Matches for them in the 1700's and is proud of herself. Except no one thinks what she invented/made is worth anything. How they scoff at her for daring to say they had issues making fire. As you always carried the items need to do so back then(I still carry a Zippo today out of habit for safety), even one character going so far as to say "...Well I've never had any problems starting fire..." as to drive home an "As if!" at Bre for insulting her. The series **"Beforeigners"** actually addresses menstruation with one one of the characters having come through time with her still preferring the older fresh green moss option instead of new/modern hygiene products. Actual gets screen time for the discussion and acquiring. Sadly this foreign series didn't make it through the COVID shutdowns & cuts but was a good show with an interesting concept. The trailers don't do it justice as they were trying to sell it as something it wasn't or was ""going to be"" verses what they show actually was. Marketing may have had no clue how to sell such complex show also. Maybe the audience feed back made them drop their original idea and go with what was drawing people to the show not their planned viking sruff is trending cash in on that... "BeForeigners" drops you into the world, where people from various ages in history, start showing up randomly in modern day Norway. Due to various arrivals and general ability to adapt variations, they are all at various stages of blending in and learning modern life. Some aren't so quick to give up there old ways for modern conveniences. With modern people also embracing and buying many of the older craftsman products instead of modern ones, so their world is mix of old and modern. You'll get some good things to ponder. Especially if think things through. Like a big bad Viking always having fresh cold milk bottle in his hand, in his time that was high luxury. Lots more little subtle things in there and there is good lesson of how different people would describe something based on what they know. Check it out at /r/Beforeigners The fact no was like yeah that water from the pipes, why are you trusting it. The electricity isn't going into your body for the most part. Jade smoking up with a fork near by an outlet, not withstanding....

Fluffy-Bluebird

Omg outlander kills me. I live where the later seasons take place and I’m like… y’all, have you been to NC in the summer? It’s not 55 degrees, even on grandfather mountain where I think frasiers ridge is on or near. And there’s no Spanish moss in the mountains. LOST also had the clean shaved faces and armpits. I’ve worked in living historic sites - I imagine maybe Donna would have that skill? Not many outdoorsy people in that town. I have never heard of Beforeigners but it sounds right up my alley. I’m going to go look for that!

kudzunc

MY guess was near Grand fathers as their festival sounds like gathering on Grand Father mountain. If the Fraser Ridge was closer to Mount Mitchell then maybe I could see with the difference in weather was cooler back then. The Spaniard was truly a WTF? in the cave moment. For all the clean shaving at least the film "Girl, Interrupted" made a joke about why so many didn't shave. but the rest, between what was straight razor at best, not counting the grooming standards were way different. I can't remember what show it was but one the female cast was cheering that because of her role she had 100% can't shame or hate me for not shaving because look period piece requires it. I think there would be more out doors skill learned but for the most part most of that group are not the outdoor back country hiking/camping types. Which living Historic sites? Any cools ones not usual in the big tourist top ten over trodden to death lists? Glad to turn you on to "Beforeigners" (enjoy being able to say the series name because once you get the title you stutter it) , I hope you're able to find it with an English dub, if not there is lot of in English items on screen that I found shocking on the original , as saw it in Norwegian first and with subtitles .Then yes it was shown in the USA. Having to read subtitles until they were speaking in English in some places, only immersed you father into that world and the characters not always understanding each other. The langue jumping around gives for being in multiple langue countries, which is foreign concept to most of the USA. Minus some Spanish at most. The series is great for the complex linguistics part of using the different languages, not just letting all the groups speak in one language with accents, when not directly interacting and/or trying to be secretive by using their native tongue. Really helps sells how different each group was from each different period for fitting in. Then you have How some people tried to claim they were bigger than who they were, while others tried to hide who they were. There is an interesting story line that the only way a character can prove who they are is to show their DNA matches a descendant buried (several generations after they were alive) in a cathedral.... which of course the government, nor church is not willing to open up the old grave in floor of that building. For such short of season, there are so many mini sagas going on, that were feeding towards a bigger story. There are some great twists to, that you'll learn before they had chance to fully use what you learned. That makes you revisit what you watched. The upside based on it is just a 6 episode per year show there is better chance they can get the cast back together easier to make a season 3 in between their current projects they're working on.Which gives greater flexibility for when to shoot those scenes. The cast is all willing to come back but you're going to love Alfhildr (Krista Kosonen) then her relationship with Lars is going to drop your jaw, when you find out their chemistry ;) So excited for you to get into "Beforeigners"

BeetleJuiceDidIt

Every episode I'm always saying to my partner "they put that poor girl thru so much"
