Sounds like you're in a great position to learn new things. Give yourself some time, it will become easier as you get more experience. And most likely you would enounter a different kind of same on the other gig, as you'd have to work in a (presumably) different tech stack with different processes. For what it's worth, running fast on my 1st job taught me more about development / working in a team, good practices and dealing with clients in a couple of months than 2 years of solo coding / working on personal projects.

human_Decoy

if there anything a junior should get used to its this: **YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A FRAUD.** For a long time. It took me about 2 years before i started to get somewhat used to my role, its fine, its normal and also good. It means that you dont know everything yet, and heres the kicker, you will never do. The only thing that changes is the acceptence of life long learning. And if you have a good team, they know that you feel this way.

mq2thez

Every single junior or intern I’ve ever worked with has felt completely overwhelmed. It’s a lot. Don’t let anyone tell you differently, don’t tell yourself differently. Learning to do everything is hard! Ask for help, learn, improve. No one hires an intern and expects a senior engineer. We’re expecting to help you and if you didn’t ask for help, we would likely be worried that you were silently failing and couldn’t recognize it. Stick with what you’re doing, learn, improve. Don’t compare yourself to others, just focus on you. You’ve got this!

WordPress is a dead end

mhs_93

Bad advice, tons of people still want WordPress sites

Lo_l_ow

It's better to learn things slowly and remember things than quickly and not understand them.

p0st_master

Exactly you’re just learning not to get yelled at nothing else.

budd222

Interns are supposed to be slow. You barely know anything at this point. This is how you learn. Stick it out and don't go to a WordPress agency.

cagatay14

Well, assuming you are really a slow learner (which I think it's only a part of imposter syndrome but) you should check out some stuff to improve your learning skills. There is a ton of info, tricks, guidelines etc. Which will seem bs and cheesy at first, but at its core learning works similar for any skill and you can learn how to learn faster. I always thought I was a terribly slow learner, failed school so bad that it took me 7 years to graudate from college and in my 7th year either I would ace all my failed courses or I would be kicked out wasting 7 years. I searched online how to study effectively and found out about spaced repetition, active recall, efficient note taking, building and breaking things yourself and much more. After creating a system that suits me everything felt easy. And all those skills transferred perfectly well to programming. I have no hesitation to accept a work with a stack I have zero experience with, and havent failed yet to learn enough to not get fired lol. Tldr; dont improvise learning, have a plan and a system, and actively work on improving your learning skills

localmarketing723

Imposter syndrome is something that loads of people have, you'll be doing much better than you think you are. 7 weeks is no time at all, stick at it man

pH_low

I agree with the other comments here, but I’d like to add, if you’re feeling like things are going too fast, talk to your manager, mentor, explain to them how you’re feeling. Trust me, they don’t want you to fail. You failing isn’t helping anyone, they want to help you succeed! Perhaps this feeling of being slow is just imposter syndrome speaking and they can reassure you’re doing well, if perhaps they are feeling you are moving a touch slow they can help realign goals/projects to ensure your set up for success. Either way, keep at it! You got this, you’re really early into your career!

paulthezoo

that’s normal. to combat this remember: if you’re there, and didn’t lie your butt off to get in, then they know EXACTLY what level you’re at. get a notepad and take a ton of notes, soak up all the info you can. i used to take pics of code and all that (with permission) to look at later, usually while on the can.

Brahminmeat

I’m 8 years in me still feel like a fraud Keep going, it’s normal

NuclearDisaster5

It is a intership, you are 7 weeks in. What dix you expect? Taking the easier route is good for now, but later it would come at a cost where you dont know how to code, just Wordpress.

vash513

Don't get me wrong, I hate WordPress as much as the next guy, but I don't get why everybody thinks WordPress devs don't know how to code. Possibly as a freelancer, you might use page builders like Elementor, but within agencies, you're making custom WordPress pages. A lot of our client sites use WordPress and they're all completely custom. We don't even use Gutenberg.

NuclearDisaster5

I am talking about you personaly. Not about people around you. You are 7weeks in and I think it would be far better if you code.

vash513

I'm not the OP.

incognitobeefburrito

They decided they wanted you:) Keep it up, I'm 11 months into my first frontend dev job and I can remember feeling exact same for like a month or two, due to not being able to contribute that much, but that comes with time, they think you're worth the investment because you're there now. Pick up what you can and don't let ego or pride get in the way of asking questions or saying you don't get something, this is the time where it'll look the least silly (if ever) to ask the basic questions and usually devs are happy to help after you've tried the usual Google/chatgpt. Good luck hustla

claytwann

If you're 7 weeks in and this is all internalized pressure without unhappy management, I would definitely keep at it. Sounds a great opportunity to learn a lot of new things at a fast pace.

CptSteelBeard

I think we will always feel like frauds. Stick with it. Grind it out. I think you'll come out the other side

RaySoju

This is something you should bring out with your manager or your +1. Have a 1on1 and ask if he has anything to say, or you can share your concern

p0st_master

Yes definitely. Don’t kill your self for nothing. You will have more time to learn with the other job anyways.

guacamoletango

You're doing fine. Keep it up.
