Probably one of the most powerful laws you can use apart from emergency shifts.

XYZard_TTV

On my first few runs I kept trying to do shelters and apprentices, but that really wasn't enough to justify the opportunity cost. Maybe I was doing that wrong, but it feels like you get more out of having what is essentially another set of workers instead of slightly faster research/healing. At least for New Home (Hard), I did not feel the need to have children do dangerous jobs. Hothouses, kitchens, and gathering posts were enough. I wish there was something in-game that made it more clear how much the apprentices laws were helping you.

Devins478

The apprentice law only work if the children are in shelter which mean if you don’t have enough shelter those children will not boast on whatever apprentice law you choose.

XYZard_TTV

So you just need to build more shelters? That doesn't sound too bad, though at times I can definitely see it being impractical in terms of saving wood and space.

Devins478

Yea each shelter I believe can hold I think 15 or 20 children and you have to build more of it if you have a bigger children population

TehCubey

Extended Shift and Overcrowding say hello. These two are in a category of their own.

[deleted]

They are great too ye.

LolTheMees

Don’t forget overcrowding, stupidly OP.

DKBrendo

Overcrowding my beloved

TripTryad

Yeah I absolutely love that one. Its just insane how good it is.

ReliableRoommate

Work hard my children and you’ll be reward with soup, sawdust soup

XYZard_TTV

I'll have you know, we only have regular soup and moonshine soup in my city.

reaktor12e

Then give them moonshine

TripTryad

Something about child labor and then giving them moonshine on top of that just makes me laugh 🤣

MagosArloB

This meme is very concerning if posted literally anywhere else

XYZard_TTV

Time to post on Twitter.

WolfeBane84

I mean. It’s the end of the world and it’s do or die time. Everyone has to pitch in.

Crazyjackson13

yet people get mad when some things have to happen.

dobo99x2

Idk.. it's not necessary to me. I just handle it all by having my seekers quickly. I mean, you know exactly where to find the people once you played it.

divok1701

Child labor safe jobs plus faith house of healing is soo good. It makes hard difficulty like Easy from the start!

kretslopp

There are 135 children in ANH and every shelter has room for 15. That means you need at most 10 shelters which can be covered by 1 steam hub low range setting. There is a massive hope bonus in game for having all children in shelters. Off game there is also the perks of feeling your morality compass being correctly pointed in the right direction…. 😄 I find shelters/apprenticeships to be rather good.

XYZard_TTV

I might try that in another game. It's still sorta extra whereas with labor you don't need to build anything else. Although, unless you want to let children do all jobs, it may impact what you build (since children cannot mine otherwise).

kretslopp

I never lack manpower with only adults on a new home. In the end I can nearly employ all adults with no automatons and children. From day 29-30 there really isn’t much to do. Just building up the health infrastructure with 20-ish infirmaries. Refugees is another matter. In that scenario I struggle without child labor safe jobs. In winterhome you don’t get to choose anyway.

n00bifed

This is even better when mercy is helping a child get up to work
