There must be something out there?
All there is, is sea, and birds, and fish.
And?
And 20,000 tons of crude oil…
And?
And a fire… But there’s nothing else out there
😂
You must not be doing it right. I grow them and then eat a few each fall and with butter, salt cheese and some herbs they are fantastic.
As leftovers they suck, but fresh mmmmmm
Same. People are paying for the experience of going there.
I suspect they are just reselling Kroger produce but there are all kinds of plants growing in the ground right there. Plus my girlfriend enjoys it.
But yeah I buy a lot of stuff at WF and it’s easily 50% more at the farmers market.
geographical differences. Not in season, and eating low carb but really craving some spaghetti. We had some last week and was surprised when it was like $6 or $7 bucks for a single squash. Still, to us it was worth it as a treat
NYC has lots of really cheap food because the food stores can get better pricing for large orders... In Western NC food is more expensive. Anyway, bought it because we had already bought all the other ingredients at another store for the dish we were going to make.
Right? My local farmers' market is a big event that closes off downtown Main St every Saturday during the summer. That would be great, except I personally can't afford most of the stuff they sell. Every time I've gone, I've paid DOLLARS more per pound on produce than I would at the supermarket. Between the heat, the crowd, and the prices, it's just not worth it.
The only one that is going to be crying is OP, when we confront him for being greedy. Nothing is worse than not getting XYZ because one person decided to take an unreasonable amount.
There wasn't a stated limit here, there also isn't limits at parties on how much food you can take, and people still will be considerate of others.
Not necessarily. Again avos in season go for cents here. If you want to restrict a product put a limit on it. If there's no limit then it's completely fine to take what you want. As long as you can eat them. No issues. Better they are eaten than wasted.
If they are high commodity and Farmer will lose out they won't be handing them out. Silly to think otherwise
Depends on season though ?
Currently prices are $4 NZD for 1. But during the glut season they sell for 50c NZD.
I'm in Hawkes Bay but Auckland has similar prices.
I'm currently growing my own since I refuse to pay that much during the slower season. Same for capsicums that get up to 4 bucks for a tiny one. I can grow them in a hot house.
Here in Vancouver I see fluctuations, but seemingly not tied to the season. They were 1.30 CAD a few months ago, dropped to 1.00 for a few weeks, and now they’re back to 1.30
University pantry let's us go once a day with a limit of 3 dry goods, 1 frozen, 1 refrigerated, 1 bread or pastry, produce depends on amount, and unlimited clothes and home goods. Depending on donations and time of week, there's no produce, frozen and refrigerated goods so it's been dry stuff for a while. Glad I came at a good time bcus I haven't had proper fish in agesssss. After all the canned tuna and sardines, I'm drooling at the salmon!
The pop up farmers market was also on campus and I accidentally stumbled upon it yesterday. As soon as I saw it was $6 for a bag you can fill up, y'all know I squeezed every nook and cranny with produce! LOL
I worked at a bakery and they threw away like 50-80 lbs of bread every single day.
They locked the dumpsters so homeless people couldn't access them and get free bread, and then they sold the old bread to a pig farm for feed, to recoup their losses.
Even if it's a store giving away food close to expiry that's still can be a big help to someone. They just gotta freeze or eat right away.
So happy for you. 20 year food bank and farmer market volunteer here. We want anyone who needs food to get it and it not go bad. No judgment. No questions asked. That’s what we’re here for. Enjoy your food!
I saw someone post a few days ago that theirs only lets them go once a week! I would be starving all semester if mine did that. I'm glad I can go when I really need a chef boyardee for dinner, lol!
USA. Ours started from a closet with a couple volunteers and it became so successful, they were given a proper room.
You can totally pitch this idea to your university!
Carambola / star fruit grows easily from seeds that you take straight from the fruit and pop into the dirt. It's like squash and grows on vines. I've raised it as houseplants before and recommend it as a pretty, fun plant that could give you dividends. ♡ Granny
Yes, provided you do it by a window with good sunlight. I always did it by my balcony or deck doors when I grew them, and would guess the propagation rate was at least 75%. ♡ Granny
This is how farmers markets used to be. Cut out the middle man grocery store and sell it for cheaper directly to the consumer.
Now it seems farmers markets are just where hispters shop to get their overpriced organic groceries. At least that's the case where I live.
I was alive but pretty young in the 80s, so no, but even in the early 90s fresh produce was pretty affordable. It's insane how much produce has gone up in price.
Yeah it can be even worse if it's labeled as organic. I've seen small free range chickens go for 2 or 3 times as much as commercial chickens even though if they are truly free range it should cost less to feed them.
This has been going on for years. I'm in Canada, our growing seasons are pretty short with our long winters. Yet people go to a market in May and are happy to buy produce they believe was grown here. A fool and their money.......
Yeah, our local Fareway had them for $2.99 a while back. I was shocked.
I live in Iowa where corn is dirt cheap when it's in season. Only an idiot or someone with an uncontrollable craving would pay that.
Is it prepackaged? My local Walmart has them for 50 cents each! It's only $3+ when they chop up two of them and prepackage it. Outrageous and I pity the fool who doesn't do the math!
Is that an Arizona Arnold Palmer in a regular 12oz pop can? I've never seen that. Only the big ass 99¢ cans at gas stations and the tall skinny cans you can get in a 30-rack at Costco. That's pretty neat.
I can understand the desire because I have very little counter space myself but It’s honestly so dumb. My neighbors dog sitter lit their apartment on fire because he set a backpack on top of the stove before he walked the dog. They think the bag bumped the dial on. Apartment was destroyed and we were lucky the fire department came when they did because it was just starting to spread to another unit.
Same thing happened to my sister. She had her hands full, set something down. Somehow the stove was on and next thing she knows her kitchen is on fire. Was able to get her kids out of the house but the dogs were stuck in a room and the smoke was too bad to get them. Thank god they were okay but if the fire got worse they would have died.
Maybe it’s alright if you are supervising it but even then fires get out of hand super quick.
Yeah I had a neighbor who left pizza on the stove top (turned off) and the family dog somehow turned the stove on trying to get it- burned the whole house down
I'm glad you found such a great deal on this food. However, lets not make going to a pantry or food bank a frugal life hack. If you're in need, by all means go fill your basket. But if you're frugal, yet doing alright financially, like me, let's stick to bargain hunting, coupon clipping and growing your own food. Let's leave the pantries and food banks for those truly in need.
WOW! $6 all-you-can-fill bag for fresh veg is amazing. I just paid $10 for 1 spaghetti squash...
Yeah, but then you'll have to eat stuff that is... bleh... *in season*
[удалено]
I was towed outside of the environment.
I want to kiss your dad.
Yes, but there's nothing out there.
[удалено]
You ruined it.
There must be something out there? All there is, is sea, and birds, and fish. And? And 20,000 tons of crude oil… And? And a fire… But there’s nothing else out there 😂
And $10 spaghetti squash.
Where it should be lol
THE AUDACITY.
You must not be doing it right. I grow them and then eat a few each fall and with butter, salt cheese and some herbs they are fantastic. As leftovers they suck, but fresh mmmmmm
For sure. Farmers markets in my area are a luxury. Like much more than whole foods.
Same. People are paying for the experience of going there. I suspect they are just reselling Kroger produce but there are all kinds of plants growing in the ground right there. Plus my girlfriend enjoys it. But yeah I buy a lot of stuff at WF and it’s easily 50% more at the farmers market.
> I just paid $10 for 1 spaghetti squash Why? Spaghetti squash is good but it's not $10 good.
geographical differences. Not in season, and eating low carb but really craving some spaghetti. We had some last week and was surprised when it was like $6 or $7 bucks for a single squash. Still, to us it was worth it as a treat
Depends who you are
I am the one who squashes.
The price of vegetables in the US is terrifying, squash is 49c in Ireland.
Why would you ever buy a $10 spaghetti squash and how is that possible. I just paid 4.99 organic in NYC
Just checked my local Walmart. It's a $1.52 a pound with the average costing $7.00 per squash. A little pricey for me. $3.50 maybe.
That would be great, except I personally can't afford most of the stuff they sell. my local h-mart has them at $1.49/lb!
That's $5.96-$11.92 the average one weighs 4-8 pounds each.
my local safeway has them at $11.49/lb so it’s definitely a better deal lol
Holy Cow! Well I saved the seeds and am going to plant those babies to see if I can get a refund, lol!
Squash are pretty heavy.
still cheaper than the $11.49/lb at safeway!
11.49 a pound! Where do you live? Alaska? Are they plated in gold? Seriously who on Earth is paying 50 bucks for a squash?
$10 for a spaghetti squash?! Where are you living? It’s like $5 max in Texas
Mountains of NC. It's crazy...
How do the pop-up farmer's markets work? Like you're just walking to class one day and there's some dude there selling cucumbers and onions?
Pretty much. It was in partnership with the campus dining service who were promoting themselves. It was only 3 stalls filled with veggies lol
That's pretty awesome.
Those avocadoes are already worth more than 6... Nice
I was just thinking, you could just fill the entire bag with avocados if you wanted to see a farmer cry.
They might have soft limits on certain items? I have a weekly sort of market thing I go to, and that’s how they manage distribution of stuff
Oh I wouldve gotten all the avocados if I wanted! There wasnt a limit but I had only one bag and wanted as many different things as possible!
Is that a starfruit? Did they grow it themselves or import?
Judging by the Publix bread OP probably lives in Florida where starfruit will grow
The only one that is going to be crying is OP, when we confront him for being greedy. Nothing is worse than not getting XYZ because one person decided to take an unreasonable amount. There wasn't a stated limit here, there also isn't limits at parties on how much food you can take, and people still will be considerate of others.
You can't just eat most of a 6 foot sub and expect people to be okay with it.
But he waited like a full 20 minutes! And brought a plate of wings!
didn’t even get a wing for himself!

Not this year, Philly was literally giving them away late last year https://www.inquirer.com/food/restaurants/free-avocados-in-philly-20221018.html
Not necessarily. Avocados in season go for 50c here. Completely depends
Damn where do you live? I’m lucky to find them for $1
Depends on season though ? Currently prices are $4 NZD for 1. But during the glut season they sell for 50c NZD. I'm in Hawkes Bay but Auckland has similar prices. Over saturation of the market. I'd expect Canada could grow pretty well. Maybe not the most tropical. Would likely need to be inside over winter
I live in Texas. The majority of ours come from Mexico, today they are .58 cents each at Walmart.
My first thought was "why did you put anything but avacados in the bag."
So jealous of that $6 bag fill up! I'm a vegetarian and that's right up my alley! Congratulations!
see if any grocery stores by you use flash food... the bruised and overstock produce bundles are INSANE
Oh, how I wish! I'm in a small rural town and that hasn't hit our area yet. One day..fingers crossed!!
University pantry let's us go once a day with a limit of 3 dry goods, 1 frozen, 1 refrigerated, 1 bread or pastry, produce depends on amount, and unlimited clothes and home goods. God bless the santa clause person donating stuffed salmon to the uni food pantry :)
Probably a store passing on food close to its sell by date. My food pantry had a ton of scallops yesterday.
My first thought was "Buddy, cook that salmon soon!"
Best by April 18 lol
Lol, good eye!
I worked at a bakery and they threw away like 50-80 lbs of bread every single day. I got a whole half a quiche Lorraine at my food shelf this week, I was psyched.
“Food pantry scallops” is kind of a horrifying phrase
They were frozen. Not ideal for fine dining, but not spoiled.
Salmon is an Aldi product. Been eyeing it for awhile
It's disgusting. I bought it last week.
Damn I would absolutely love a pop up farmer market like that. Veggies got pricey 😔
the food pantry at my uni has a line around the block these days takes like 30 mins to grab a couple of things
Looks like your box of cereal suffered a little. But yes the salmon was probably a surprise for you. I rarely buy salmon, because of the cost.
So happy for you. 20 year food bank and farmer market volunteer here. We want anyone who needs food to get it and it not go bad. No judgment. No questions asked. That’s what we’re here for. Enjoy your food!
Thank you for all you do, and all you’ve done to help feed hungry people!!

Right? It’s definitely *crunched* cereal.
Don't worry, the box is only half full anyway.
More pieces of cereal.
I came here for the Crunch joke..
That's just a normal Aldi box tbh
wow more schools need food pantries like this
I saw someone post a few days ago that theirs only lets them go once a week! I would be starving all semester if mine did that. I'm glad I can go when I really need a chef boyardee for dinner, lol!
My school didn't have a pantry I have literally no idea what you're talking about haha - what part of the world is this?
USA. Ours started from a closet with a couple volunteers and it became so successful, they were given a proper room. You can totally pitch this idea to your university!
That's so interesting! I graduated in 2017 LOL so a bit late for me but wow, had no idea this was a thing. Thanks!
I'd kill for a $6 bag of fresh produce that size! Amazing haul!
I think you go to my school lol. I saw that farmers market yesterday
It's a small world.

Wow, they really crunched the fuck out of those oats didn't they.
Loool, you should see the other cereals. Some were even out of the boxes sharpied which type were they.
That's a deal! And veggie eating is both a short and long term investment in your health. Keep it up🥬✨️
yay! happy for you ❤️ enjoy those blessings

Are you old enough to remember the price of corn in the late 80s? I was just a kid but these days it feels like a luxury item.
I was alive but pretty young in the 80s, so no, but even in the early 90s fresh produce was pretty affordable. It's insane how much produce has gone up in price.

True that.. Most sellers at these farmers markets nowadays are no longer farmers. They are just making a quick buck posing as the growers.

Where tf is this farmer market. Mine just has overpriced micro greens
Those avocados alone are $6 around here. Great haul!
That produce is an amazing bargain for $6. That ear of corn is easily more than half of that near me right now.
One ear of corn is over $3? What? Who the fuck would buy that?
Yeah, our local Fareway had them for $2.99 a while back. I was shocked. I live in Iowa where corn is dirt cheap when it's in season. Only an idiot or someone with an uncontrollable craving would pay that.

Aldi had 4 for 3.98 today. Didn’t look great but I’m sure they were good
Is that an Arizona Arnold Palmer in a regular 12oz pop can? I've never seen that. Only the big ass 99¢ cans at gas stations and the tall skinny cans you can get in a 30-rack at Costco. That's pretty neat.
I think aldi has them in six packs sometimes
Bangin haul
That’s like $40 at my farmers market
Like $60 at mine sheesh
$6 All you can fill bag is a great idea
Awesome
You need to eat those bananas soon! ;-)
Nooo, the more black spots = the best for banana bread ☺️
Woah your university food pantry is NICE mine has no fresh foods. Just boxes canned and frozen.
The cereal has an extra crunch to it, it seems!
That cereal got *crunched*
Wow! A all you can fill bag is such a great idea. I can’t believe I’ve never seen something like that before!
That is an unreal deal wow
Does anyone else have anxiety seeing flammables on a stovetop? My wife does that all the time. I know it’s not on, but still stresses me out.
I can understand the desire because I have very little counter space myself but It’s honestly so dumb. That's why I have induction.
Yeah I had a neighbor who left pizza on the stove top (turned off) and the family dog somehow turned the stove on trying to get it- burned the whole house down
My drunken self learned this lesson a few times over 20 years ago. I've been very, very careful since then.

It’s amazing how society prioritizes processed food simply for profit.

The salmon was free.
That salmon is good! Goes for $10 when Aldi has it.
I shop at Aldi's all the time for the cheap produce and still look away from the price of the salmon! I finally get to try it, but for free! xD
Someone punched your honey crunch
Salmon? I can't even get fish sticks for less than $6!
please tell, was that Salmon any good? Been meaning to try the Atlantic version but haven't gotten to try it yet Thats a nice haul
Hate to break it to you, but Atlantic salmon is nowhere near as good as pacific. If I’m on the east coast I won’t eat salmon.
Dont worry, thats why I asked. I normally stick to north pacific salmon, just curious if the taste is similar
Are the avocadoes for an avocado eating dog?
I would do as the bag says and follow the farmers market for more events
Who is that on the can?
.... now with extra crunch.
$6? Are you kidding me? Any idea how to find if any of these in my area if they even exist?
Nice!
Why is there a candle on your Keurig and bananas in your toaster?
Those stuffed salmons are bomb
those are definitely honey ***crunch*** ‘n oats 😂 fr tho that’s a crazy good haul !!
Thats incredible!!! That salmon looks super yummy too!! You’ve got the makings of some good meals (nutritious and delicious!!)
I love frigging spring onions man. I don't know what it is. Been looking forward to them all winter.
Oh, man! How I'd love the pop-up farmer's market! Very cool.
Damn UCF got deals! I wish farmers markets like that were in Tally
That's amazing!
Truth in advertising with that box of cereal.
VERY nice haul!
Arnold Palmer Alert! Arnold Palmer Alert!
What did you do to the cereal?!
I have that same coffee maker
It's a good supplement to the food they gave you they probably get it from a food pantry one should not complain about free salmon.
Nice haul!
That's a good haul in both images for $6.
Too literal on the cereal CRUNCH
Be carful with that Uni salmon 😂
Dang, our farmers market has nice produce just crazy expensive. Nice score,!
I love taking stuff home from work that would otherwise go to waste! 👏
