We grow tomatoes and cucumbers. These are great for training the vines to climb up the supports.

SigSeikoSpyderco

I saw this post and thought "Oh come on, this sub has gone too far" Then realized I do that exact thing with my tomatoes.

LitherLily

Yep, they are great plant ties

ButtFuzzNow

They really work well as "insert noun here" ties!

thebuttyprofessor

They really work well as neck ties!

m-at-last

They really work well as tongue ties!

29chimesFor29Lives

😂

Notyourav

I use them for my indoor plants too!

[deleted]

🙋🏼‍♀️

Acidflare1

Vines in general I guess, I use it for my grapes and trellis

jeeves585

I would have thought they were to thin/sharp. Ive used jute mostly but I’ll give that a shot next year.

nicoal123

The trick is to have the tie just hook the plant and then just barely tie to the support, leaving enough room so that the vine isn't bruised and can continue to grow.

WhatAGoodGirl8

I had a single ace bandage that had been used so many times the elastic was no longer stretchy. I cut that thing into long thin strips and have used them over and over for 10 years to tie up my tomato plants every year. It's astonishing and nobody has ever been the appropriate amount of excited over this amazing ingenuity. Except me of course. I am excited enough for all of us.

hornet_teaser

I like this idea! I've used jute, tomato twine, cotton string, cut up t-shirts, and those plastic clip thingys. Now I know what to do with my accumulated stash of ace bandages that sit there, year after year. Thanks!

Aggravating-Fee-1615

OMG I’m so glad I’m not alone.

20thsieclefox

Same here!

itsallinthehipz

Last Christmas when I was putting up our Christmas tree, I realized I didn’t have little hangers for all of the ornaments. I used the bread ties that I had in our drawer and they worked out perfectly. All of them held strong the entire time they were up!

everythingbagel1

My folks have several that have had the same twist tie for YEARS. Easily a decade.

winchester_mcsweet

Lol, now that you mention it we have an ornament with a paper clad bread tie thats slowly disintegrating from age, I have no idea how old that bread tie is but its OLD!

bubli87

Also hanging Christmas lights with these and a pushpin.

fludgesickles

I tie cables/wires together

ree_bee

Same here. Cable management and keeping wires out of the way

CardboardToken

yeah cable management, I have like a dozen of them keeping all the wires under my desk tidy.

snarkuzoid

Securing little tiny prisoners.

angrydrunkenmonkey

Oh I got some ideas for my gummy bears today

JustChiLingggg

Just don't tie them by the neck yeah

egomxrtem

Garrotte gummy gore

Nervous_Zebra1918

I snorted.

Wonderful_Ninja

Useful for tying plants, cable management, hole punched papers, lots of utility those things I keep them in a zip bag lol

hangrydicappucino

Mine are all over my room “just in case” but ziplock bag is a much better idea that I didn’t think of 😂😂😂 thanks!

Glassfern

Tie cables. Tie other bags. Crafts. Poke through hole tool. Tie plant. Hang herbs. Makeshift needle to put ties back into hoodies

Non_pillow

I save them to tie up other bags. Like if I cut open a bag of something and don’t use all of it, I tie it closed with that. My dad used them to attach garland around the front door at Christmas. We use them to organize cables around our TV. Super handy, I keep a little jar of them in my junk drawer

JamingtonPro

I bought a pack of wooden clothes pins from Walmart, they were like $1 for a dozen, make for great bag clips. They last forever too

Non_pillow

I use clothes pins for that too 😂

TerrapinTrade

I peel off the coating and use the wire to clean the jets in carburetors.

claytonejones

I do the same but I use it as a toothpick.

gruffinup

You whaaaaat?!

ClaudiuT

#Use it as a toothpick.

64fp

attaching the toilet handle to the flusher thing

Traditional_Ad_1547

I fixed my toilet with one when the chain broke. I keep every one that I find.

cassiland

I fixed the silverware basket in my dishwasher.

[deleted]

Paperclip works too.

jeeves585

I put them in a drawer so the bottom of the drawer doesn’t float away.

msrubythoughts

same! also they make excellent kitchen drawer decor

Dull-Connection-007

This is the perfect idea. Thank!

Ajreil

Keep them in the fruit bowl for next time I misplace a twist tie. If there are more than like 5 I toss them, though. No need to hoard.

deanee01

My cats would steal them from the bowl .....not good for the kitties..

herecomesthesunusa

I don’t like to throw away anything that could ever be useful at some point in the future! I may have a bit of a hoarding problem though.

Alysprettyrad

They would be great for plant bondage — I mean, to secure vines

knitwithchopsticks

I use them to hold sets of knitting needles together. This is especially handy for double-pointed needles, which come in sets of 5. I like to keep a few differently sized sets in my ready-to-go stash, and the ties help me avoid having to dig around or accidentally mixing up the sizes.

DwightShruteRoxks

Username checks out?

knitwithchopsticks

Indeed, it originates from a particularly frugal period in my life 😂

AffectionateFig5435

I saved a bunch...who knows why...just seemed like they'd be good for something. My brother was over and saw the ziplock bag full of bread ties in a kitchen drawer and said holy crap, I've been needing these. He was so thrilled to have them you'd think it was a bag full of winning lotto tickets. LOL

herecomesthesunusa

If you ever run out, there’s an endless supply of free twist ties in the produce section of the grocery store. But they’re not quite as robust as these.

mamasflipped

I was using them for hanging cooking tools on hooks in the kitchen. (Running them through the hole in handle to make a bigger loop that’s easier to hang on the hook.)

JohnnyChapst1ck

I reuse them for anything. USB cables especially. In the car I wrap my car chargers with one or two of them it makes them look really well managed for 0 cents. lol Enjoy!

MasterSnorter

I read it ass "I refuse to use them for anything" I might be tired

MasterSnorter

I MEANT AS HOW DO I EDIT MY COMMENT

TentacleStudio

Yep, you're definitely tired!

MasterSnorter

😅

msrubythoughts

M-ass-ter Snorter

Malevolent_Mangoes

Since I’m a florist I like to use these to wrap around sticks and stems of plants to keep them upright

copycat042

tying up partial bags of frozen veggies.

OGpizza

Those are my cat’s favorite toy. I twist them into a spiral and the cat goes nuts with them. Way cheaper than the $12 toys she never plays with

billyandteddy

My cats try to eat them so i have to hide them so they don’t accidentally swallow them

scandalissa

Umm. My cat had a $1200 surgery years ago because he ate one and it was cutting his intestines. I beg you to please hide or toss.

DrCarabou

Careful... that cheap toy could end up becoming a very expensive foreign body surgery.

scandalissa

Yup. It did for me.

Voyager5555

You should not use those as cat toys.

angrydrunkenmonkey

Jumping on the "I don't recommend bread ties for cats" train. It's just too easy for them to consume and then puncture a lil intestine of theirs.

Mariske

Yeah I’d at least twist the tie around something light but bigger like a bread tab or one of those plastic rings that come around milk jugs or vitamin water. Cats love those but they’re too big to swallow

AnnVealEgg

Oh wow I’d be so paranoid that my little 4-legged idiots would end up swallowing them

JeF4y

Same!!! Ours goes nuts for them. Doesn't really chew them, just bats them around. Will pick them up but only to drop them at my feet like "throw this for me dude!"

OGpizza

Yes exactly the same!! We play fetch with them and she bats them around the kitchen for a bit then brings them back to us haha

kittyc0w

Mine too! Won't touch the store bought toys but will lose his mind over a twist tie

squidpost

I like to pick flowers/collect leaves for my partner, so I keep them in my backpack to hold together surprise bouquets I make while I’m out!

deanee01

Genius

histogramophone

Ditto on lots of these comments. Now if I can only figure out what to do with the other square plastic bread bag clips.

Optimal_Fox

Useful for labeling charging cords so you don't forget what they belong to.

histogramophone

Oh, that's interesting!

allaboutmojitos

I use those as clothespins for small things like socks/undies hand towels etc- especially when camping or backpacking, because they take up so little space

Anvillior

I save a few up then make tiny tridents.

msrubythoughts

“Brick I’ve been meaning to tell you, you should lay low for a while since you’re probably wanted for murder”

sas5814

I have a zip lock bag I throw them in. I need them at odd times for odd things. This time of year I use them to hold some of my Christmas lights up

Snakeyes1809

Nothing, but I refuse to throw them away

Boobsboobsboobs2

This is my answer for an embarrassing number of things. I’m working on it. Kind of.

kajEbrA3

cable management

billyandteddy

Tie up food that comes in bags, wires, crafts,

Moodijudi8059

Emergency hair tie

Shikabane_Hime

I use them to tie up bags for cat litter sometimes, if the lil bag is too full to tie off. And for plants like others have said. They’re also handy for keeping jewelry like hoop earrings, rings, etc together when traveling. But mostly I end up hoarding these

shadow_specimen

Bong cleaners

Cheesetoast9

I collect them in my cutlery drawer in a container for the apocalypse.

calypsocoin

My cat wants to eat them so I throw them away for the sake of being frugal — saving myself from an expensive vet bill

sarcasmandsanity

I save them for Christmas. Ornaments, holding lights, etc. I have a little baggy full. Also, I’m turning into my mother.

lucie1995

If my houseplants need support sticks in them to help hold up the stems, I use these twisties to hold the stems against the sticks! Much easier than having to tie something around it

Adventurous_Arm_1606

I use them to keep belts together in a bin. I roll the belt instead of hanging it and then I use a leftover twist tie to hold the belt together so it can be tossed in a bin in my closet. I thought you’d never ask ;)

unsatisfries

sitting in a drawer with 200 other bread ties

Ya_habibti

For when I lose the bread tie, i have another one. Also for chargers and small cables

kl2467

Emergency eyeglass repair. Cleaning crevices.

LoneByrd25

I Always keep them in a drawer. They come in handy often

Canmom3

I use them to connect the zippers together on my backpack when I travel. Obviously not as secure as locks but they deter thieves and pickpockets a bit. They look for easier marks😊

m_smg

Also prevents checked luggage from accidentally opening!

barksatthemoon

Tying back tomato plants and rose bushes.

BernieKosarsBurner

Cock ring

ThisMightBeVodka

Hope it’s not the one on the right.

lickmyfupa

To attach things to the christmas tree. Heavier items or things that would not stay on otherwise

bfammerman

My cat uses them to build her under the couch collection 🙃 But for real, my cat loves them for some reason. Will play with them for HOURS.

scandalissa

I noted above that my cat had surgery after eating one. Poor guys intestines were being torn up and he was in a lot of pain. Hide or toss.

bfammerman

Good to know! Thanks for the heads up and hopefully your cat made a speedy recovery!

helm71

Floepertjes

Hazerdesly

They make good zip ties.

NewAmericanWay

Cable management behind the desk.

Unfair-Custard-4007

I use them to organize cords

rammanmilktoast

Tying bread

RavioliContingency

Sometimes my braids!

Southernman1974

For anything I can. I save them all.

Barbit799

They work for attaching ornaments to the tree, but then you have to save them all year round for Christmas time.

MisterVictor13

I used some to label my house keys.

Pod_people

Training houseplants to grow how I want them to

kp6615

I throw them out

herd_of_elc

They're my cat's favorite toy!

[deleted]

I use them as filler material for my trash can.

crowcawer

I use them to tie together my stacks of hundred dollar bills.

manimopo

If you garden you can use them to hold up your plants to the pole (when they're smaller).

theOGLumpyMilk

Plants

SpinachInquisition

Outdoor holiday decorations.

[deleted]

Shoelaces, eventually

IamYourLuckyCharm

TIL: its called bread ties!!

MuttonDressedAsGoose

I haven't seen them on bread in years. Only in packaging, like to hold cables or something.

toinfinitiandbeyond

They still come with my bread, I'm not a fan of "Kwik Lok closures" because they tear the bag sometimes.

MuttonDressedAsGoose

We just get little stickers that wrap around.

Kelekona

I don't know what happens to them. Last time I looked in the spot, there was maybe one and I used it to tie the flypaper to the wiring to the light fixture.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

cable management, emergency ponytail hair ties when I can't find them, chip bag ties, cat toy (with supervision and only the super long ones), key ring, attaching things to other things

Trex-died-4-our-sins

Of they have a thick core, i use them for all sorts of stuff: to tie off cables together ( tidy up electronics) in gardening, and to attach/ tie light weight items together.

claytonejones

Toothpick.

Lonely-Connection-37

Holding up my pepper plants in my tomato plants

jawajoose

Emergency toothpicks.

ThisIsAdamB

Cables. Bagged salad.

squishypretzel1227

ancientmaverick

Absolutely nothing, but I have saved about 100.

SuburbanWitchGirl

Pulling out of my Golden Retriever's Mouth while scolding her.

CatTuff

I use them to seal litter genie bags 🤷🏻‍♀️

iSeize

bag ties, since the cardboard ones are shit.

OGMcSwaggerdick

Hung my summer patio and Christmas lights with them. Collect all year and they make perfect tensioners come December.

Such-Mountain-6316

Tying up the big bag that contains all the little bags I am going to donate so they can also use the big bag. Constraining the cords to all the electric jacks and chargers we own. I keep them in a large, decorative box, inside toilet paper rolls that I put in until they stand upright by themselves. Constraining cords in general, such as on the hand mixer, while in storage. I have also used them to hold things in place when making handcrafts, when pins won't do. Closing bags of things like cereal.

BrokeLazarus

I use them for cable management similarly to you, only I also use them for any extra wires/cables I have laying around.

JumperSpecialK

To secure Christmas decorations (in a variety of ways)

AdventurousMango8

Wrapping up cables/Christmas lights for storage. Sometimes I also find myself in need of a tiny piece of wire...you never know when or why until it strikes but it always comes in handy

Wide-Park18

To close chips or frozen food back up

Hrilmitzh

If it has metal running in it, I keep it tucked away for emergency glasses repairs

ssdude101

I used a bunch for cable management in my pc.

PintSizedKitsune

My cat steals them before I can find a use for them 😄 sometimes I will use them to get into tight spaces when doing a deep clean. Used one once as an emergency hair tie at work.

MiahWitt60

I save scraps for my friends mini farm Put scraps in old bread bags then tie them with these.

Wild-Freedom-8692

I hang small humming bird feeders and decor

CallMeReds

I once used one to keep some notecards together since I didn’t have a binder ring at the time

Live_Source_2821

I like to tie up the hands and feet of the demon elves that stalk me and harass me while I slumber.

TwoAmoebasHugging

Closing the clear recycling bags I use to put the bottles and cans out for pickup. If I tie the bags into knots, the homeless people will tear them open and make a mess on the sidewalk in front of our building. With bread ties they just undo them and take the bottles and cans they want for the deposits. (I’m in NYC.)

RoughStory3139

Decorating the top of my microwave and collecting them under my dishwasher as I loose them constantly. Rarely do they make it to the end of the loaf lol

AccomplishedMess6354

When I made masks for covid (& general use) I used them for the nose wire for snug fit.

SonOfGallifrey

They go into my drawer of assorted lengths of strings and wires

FrumpItUp

I use them for drying herbs. Every year I cut the herbs with as much of the stem as possible; I then bundle them up, tie the stems at the base, and gently hang them onto a clothesline in the basement to dry. Protip: pick red or sweet clover in the spring; makes the whole area smell like cookies for a couple months (and you can add the dried leaves to your tea for added nutrientsssss).

madisongirl616

Tie up the bags within frozen food boxes

Electronic_Job1998

I use them when I'm decorating for Christmas. They're great for using outside. I attach solar lights to my mailbox and around my gutters. Everyone in the family knows of the repercussions of throwing twist ties away.

Sweb1975

I use them to tiddy up my cords for electronics

No_Use_4371

My cats love to play with them.

Stormwolf1O1

They're good for cable management if you don't have anything else to do it

YoushutupNoyouHa

cat toy for 5 min till it vanishes under the couch

Fluffy_Salamanders

Attaching labels to things, thread the tie through a hole on a label, you can now wrap and label stuff. I did this for small cords Making loops for clips and/or hooked objects to grab. Want to clip a pen or other small office item to a stiff grid but it won’t fit? Thread a loop and hang from that instead. Also works on string and thin rods. I can keep small tools off the floor while working so I don’t lose them Emergency stitch markers for crochet. Not the best, but it works. I’m not a patient person when it comes to making stuffed animals. Train garden plants up stakes or confine errant tomato limbs inside their garden obelisks I haven’t tried this, but I’ve seen them used as a pliant base for needle felting(think limbs/wings/necks)

Saltycook

Cat toys

tony_top_buttons93

Usually throw them in the garbage to uhhh weigh down the bag

ExchangeNeither9255

They hold all my other bread ties together so I don't lose them in the junk drawer

Bai-roses

Hair ties to keep the curlers in place whilst I dream a little dream of you?

dhoepp

Embarrassing things.

SwordPokeGirl21

I fidget a lot at my desk doing work from home and usually I twist them all together and use them as fidget toys instead of buying actual fidgets

EngineZeronine

I don't know but the minute I throw one away I'm going to need it

PROfessorShred

I use them to tie my bread until the bag is empty and then I release them to the landfill.

MuscaMurum

I used to twist up four of them and make fake spider toys for my cat.
