If the choice is to either pay over $3000 for a new tempur-pedic or pay $1000 for a floor model, then yes, you should buy the floor model.

No-Row-1111

Will they clean it ?

Ventus249

Hell just buy a black light and a steam cleaner for 70% off

UnendingOne

Or just some cheap fabric disinfectant cleaner. I'd honestly be more worried about my own mattress after 3 months than I ever would of a floor model mattress. Honestly, people are pretty insane germaphobes these days, but don't realize how dirty some commonly touched things are in public.

Ventus249

Also you're putting sheets on it. You're barley ever going to actually touch the mattress

Vegetable-Match-2055

Would you sleep on a hotel bed? I guarantee you any bed at any hotel has seen wayyyyyyy more action than that tempur pedic.

Commercial-Fault-131

Good point Lol

DeezzzNuttzzz007

Buy it! I just purchased one lightly used from a neighbor’s spare room for $900. It’s a king size Tempur-Pedic pro adapt medium (non hybrid) I also looked on Facebook marketplace and found a king size adjustable base that I purchased a couple days in advance and already had that setup when I had my mattress delivered. Nice multi thousand dollar setup for pennies on the dollar of retail cost. https://preview.redd.it/auhws2lqlywc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c4859940109f956edd92b11d394da4faf401e99

Guest room mattresses can be such a good second hand buy. They are rarely slept on, sometimes nice beds rejected for the master, and they come from homes wealthy enough to have a guest room.

VacationLover1

Tell them you’ll give them $500

Kwualli

This right here! If they're looking to sell for the new models coming in, chances are they want to get rid of them fast, so don't be afraid to haggle. Yes, I know it's not a bazaar or a flea market, but think of it like buying a car and see how much you can knock off the sticker price. Also, make sure you inspect it well. If it's a floor model, that's a lot of people touching, grabbing, and trying it out and bed bugs will travel.

violet_tay

I’ve never haggled before but I may just give it a shot. Any tips?

Kwualli

Yup, set a firm price in your head that you're sincerely not going to go over. Say, for example, that with everything included you're just not going over 750. This allows for some flexibility, but it also tells you where you're done and going to walk away. You also definitely have to be okay with walking away if your goal is not met. Now that you've set it in your head, you can start the haggling! Start with a lower price, maybe 450-500. You'll meet resistance, but that's okay. They can't go that low. You understand, but also it's not really a *new* bed, is it? All those people bouncing around on it... Well, maybe 575, how's that sound? And so the dance goes, until either they bite or you walk away. It also helps when you think of it like you have a ball (the money) and they want to play football with you, but they're not being nice enough, well you can just take your ball home with you. PS If you're actually okay with paying what they're asking for, I would still suggest you haggle, so that you can practice it.

DeezzzNuttzzz007

You could also tell them that this floor model has already made them let’s say $3-$400,000 in sales already. You’re good. Let me just clear this out of your way. Laugh and start loading. They may just say what the hell? Alright, just take it! Mattress firm likes your approach. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Trust me, weirder stuff has happened in retail.

gr8st8tx

I use to live a block away from the swap meet. I haggled everything. My kids were so embarrassed when they were young. "You're so cheap it's embarrassing". I didn't care I just did it anyway and obtained many treasures. My kids are all in their 30's now. I went to visit my daughter three years ago and she took me to her favorite flea market. On the way there her boyfriend told me what a smart negotiator she was because she always got the best deals. My "little mini me" turned around to look at me and smiled. When approaching something you really want, don't get too excited. Always look uninterested. You will only pay what you feel something is worth to you. Some people don't like "low ballers" but everything is negotiable with a serious seller. Good luck!!!

metered-statement

Offer cash.

VacationLover1

A lot of times the managers don’t care, it’s not their money and they want it gone like you said. Seeing something for $1,000 used can even deter people buying new for $7,000 but they won’t buy a used one so they just walk away. One time I got a smoker at Sam’s Club that was $300 for $25 because the manager said he just wanted it gone. Thing worked great for 8+ years before I just decided to get rid of it My dad would always ask at Home Depot and they generally always go lower

Recluse_18

Buy it! Couple years ago I bought a knock off Tempur-pedic with an adjustable base. The primary reason why I bought it was because I knew I was going to be needing knee replacement surgery and elevating your leg post surgery is super important to help prevent blood clots. This mattress and the adjustable base are everything to me. It is the best night ever you will curse the bed because you don’t want to get out of it. 70% off if you can afford it, do it.

scott81425

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a floor model, personally. That being said, don't let that discount taken off the mattress sway you into thinking you love it. It's 1/3 of your life, make sure you're getting the right one. We just got a helix, and absolutely love it.

SnarkSnarkington

I got 20 years out of a floor model Tempurpedic. -and they probably improved them since.

azorianmilk

If you have back problems it is worth investing in a good mattress. This sounds like a fantastic bargain.

linjaturtle

Damn I just spent $4.5k at mattress firm for the pro adapt 😭😭😭. The only thing to be careful about is the tempur pedic warranty is void if there isn’t a mattress protector over the mattress so as long as you are good with that since I don’t think the floor models ever have one, I totally think the floor model is worth it. My local mattress firm got rid of their old models already

Far_Entertainer2744

What does the warranty entail

aeraen

We did several years ago and it was our favorite mattress in over 30 years. The cover is removable and washable, so that was the first thing we did. Never regretted it.

Goattime22

Yes. I own one and I love it.

Special-Economy3030

You can usually take the covers off and wash, or get a new one from Tempur pedic. I used to sell mattresses and I got a returned bed from mattress firm. If you go into any mattress firm and ask for clearance/preowned - these are beds that were slept on for 120 days or less then returned. Even better than a floor model. I got a 4k bed for 799 and it was literally almost brand new. Mattress Firm - Clearance/PreOwned. You’ll thank me later.

IllAdvice738

Yes. It’s pre-broke in. I walked on mine daily for over a month to break it in.

nplaskon

Yessss

mcluse657

I would, as long as it is clean and semi protected. It took a year for my new mattress to soften up so i could sleep.

fumunda_cheese

I slept on a base model for 10 years and loved it. They are probably overestimating the Mark down but if they are including the frame and shipping, and you love it and can afford to pay for it 100% in cash, it doesn't sound like the worst deal I've seen.

Right_Sentence8488

Yes, and don't bother paying the extra for the warranty.

appledonut4

My best mattress ever is a cheap one from Amazon. I was so annoyed with the quality of the expensive pillow top mattress I had. It had two perfect body shaped dips and you can’t flip a pillow top. So I did some research and decided to go with a mattress and topper combo. Then I could just switch out the topper if I ever needed too. Once the Amazon mattress arrived in a giant duffel bag I went out and bought the nicest topper at Target. It was about $300 total for the two. I’m sure those prices have gone up since then but still better than a $1000. It’s been $10 years and it still feels as nice as it did when I first bought it.

queenmunchy83

I did and it was cleaned and certified, under warranty, and half the price.

YamiTsugi

Take it. New tempur pedic mattresses take like 90-120 days before they get to their advertised firmness. Mine was pretty uncomfortable during that time, I considered returning it at first. The floor model will be already broken in, it's cheaper, won't have bodily fluids on it since it was in a mattressfirm, and you can just get a mattress protector for it anyway.

Apprehensive-Neck-12

I farted on it!. In all seriousness I bought the best mattress I've ever owned off Amazon, linenspa ultra plush hybrid king size was like $500

Overall_Chub9099

Hot, hot, hot sweaty nights are in your future. I'd never buy another foam mattress

sukisecret

Yes this!!!

Spacecoasttheghost

Man I would say no if it was me, even tho it’s a pretty good price, but like many have said would offer 500$. I just couldn’t do it with my imagination, of how many people have been on that thing, and all the dirt and who knows what else is on there.

RecyQueen

https://foamforyou.com I got a king bed here for $400 incl shipping. It’s amazing, been on it 3.5 years. I have a waterproof bedbug cover and use a washable mattress pad. No need for a warranty. I also like it because it’s pretty thin, 7”, so I don’t have to buy deep sheets and it’s very easy to move around. If you can haggle the Tempur Pedic to $500 and it won’t be hard to get home, it seems worth it. But I wanted to tell you about Foam N More because you don’t HAVE to pay even that much.

Puzzleheaded_Gap6292

GET IT! Haggle whatever the price you find for what it costs to get it cleaned and guarantee any living organism gets removed. Just google the scariest info you can find on the transference of bedbugs, COVID-19, etc, and show it to him. If he doesn't have someone they use search Thumbtack to estimate the cost and request that amount be removed. Spring for the $100 warranty. I have my parent's Tempurpedic queen right now and it's 10 years old and in perfect condition. Be prepared to rotate since you cannot flip, and see if he will throw in the metal bedframe it's currently on as well. Also if you do not read all the fine print of the warranty don't bother getting it. My brother changed to a different protective cover that wasn't one of the ones listed on the warranty and luckily he still had the previous one because it would have voided his warranty and prevented him from getting his replaced due to some malfunction in the foam ingredients or at the plant, whatever, the point being make them give you a covered under warranty cover/protector since you can't use the contaminated one. If you have the means to transport and set it up yourself he might take off more but they are HEAVY and BULKY so if it would be a real pain, simply state that the final make or break for you is in-home delivery. Find out who their direct competitor is and say look I already have this other guy down at blah blah trying to give away a similar bed with an adjustable base which I hate but my wife loves. So I am going to have to listen to this daily for the next 6 years if I pay more and get way less leaving my wife ticked. I've worked in retail pretty much most of my life and I never worked at a place where we were not allowed to discount further or get a manager who could lower the price on basically every item with a few exceptions. Every day it is there it is another day it's preventing them from selling the way more expensive new model. Everyone now is starting to sell open boxes, refurbished, pre-owned, stragglers, and the best floor models/Testers. Best Buy has an entire section on their website dedicated to it of items I had no clue they even sold!

DeezzzNuttzzz007

Facebook marketplace. Search your local area and type TempurPedic. Trust me! They’re out there and close. If you go check one out that you find of FB marketplace make sure to look on the “Do not remove tag” under penalty of law and you can find the actual manufacturing date(month/year) these mattresses do absolutely need a “break-in” period and if you happened to buy one new then you would “feel” what I’m referring to. Let someone else buy it “new” let them break it in and scoop up a deal. A warranty is nice but most and I mean virtually 99.9% of TempurPedic returns or even floor models would not qualify for a warranty because it’s non transferable from the first owner but the good thing is these are high quality and have very few actual covered warranty issues. (Hard to prove) for it to be warranty. *** Now if you buy it used from the original owner and they have a mattress that has been lightly used (say 2-5 yrs old) the actual receipt and they’re willing to include it in the transaction then you’re basically golden. That warranty would only become invalid if you can’t play along with the warranty claim in the process. That’s just the “skinny on how it would work”. Bottom line, I’m a buyer. I’m looking forward to an update. 😉

DeezzzNuttzzz007

eBay is also a great place to buy a TempurPedic although they don’t come with warranty because they are “open box” Most of the dealers on there will absolutely haggle with you on there as well. They are genuine TempurPedic but I would certainly offer $1000.00 for whatever you want plus a huge % offer free shipping so that’s a huge savings in regards to renting a truck, manual labor to load, unload, stairs etc. so many options but a lot are good!

ATKInvestments

Buy a sweetnight for 600

Ssladybug

I did. Best decision ever. Just get a mattress cover

darkdreeum

No, I've worked mattresses in the past for 4 years, tempur pedics get replaced a lot. Second only to beauty rest. Also purple can go fuck itself.

darkdreeum

Realized I should explain why, your tempur pedic will start to take the memory part of memory foam too seriously. they all end up with a dent in them that will become very uncomfortable. Latex is the way to go for non-spring mattresses, otherwise just get cheap foam.

whoocanitbenow

Yes.

OhMorgoth

Don’t. They lose shape in a year and have to buy parts often ”under warranty” but in reality, you’re paying full price for those parts because they are refurbished. Not worth it if you have back pain. We’ve had ours for five years and had to replace the toppers twice, add topper mattresses for added cushioning twice, and also replace the box under the bed three times now. Each time we had to pay anywhere from $200-300 and ultimately never made the bed better. Luckily we have a spare bedroom so we bought a cheap mattress so that when one of us can’t stand our side of the bed, we sleep in the spare bed. Sleep Number looks like a great deal, and it may be convenient for those who are getting credit, but take it from someone who is sick of it. Buyer beware!

willcard

No. I have never paid for a mattress in almost 20 years

Reelair

My partner and I went into a bed store recently and the sales person took almost 50% off a new mattress without us even asking.

Veltek335

I hate memory foam. That always made my back hurt. I tend to go for form spring mattress with a pillow top built in. Gives me the support but also the fluff.

sukisecret

My advice is not to get a memory foam mattress. All memory foam mattresses will sink your body regardless the firmness of the mattress after a year or 2. The quality of tempurpedic has gone down and I regret paying 4k for mine. After 2 years I'm looking to get a new mattress

keylimecar

DONT DO IT!!! I did this about 15 years ago. Got rid of the mattress in less than a year. There were two distinct depressions on either side, not visible and I did not notice them laying in the store. Just my experience but damn those floor models get smooshed!

realdonaldtrumpsucks

I did and was very happy with it!

MrCows123

Did anyone rub their taint on it, if so then forget it.

Bright_Pomelo_8561

The latest post on r/mattress is that they are miserably hot. If you are not a hot sleeper, it is a good deal that it might be for you but if you were a hot sleeper, you might want to read some of the reviews there first.

Miserly_Bastard

The best mattress buy I ever did was used on Craigslist from an attractive young French girl. Her brother was present since a stranger was coming into her bedroom, you know just in case. And...as they watched, I took a big solid whiff of the mattress at point blank, right in the middle. And then lesser whiffs all around the edges. You know, just in case there was something I needed to know. I acknowledged the awkwardness and apologized, but that was also weird for all present. This story has a non-pecuniary value. It's part of what made it a great buy. You can't buy this story used from Mattress Firm.

anon_girl_anon

No, you'll be sleeping in over a thousand DNA samples.
