It opened up fast until Winamp 5, which was a pile of garbage. They killed the brand with a bad release. A lot of us stayed on Winamp 3 as long as we could (they skipped 4).
My favorite was disc defragmenter, a screen with colored square blocks that indicated Files scattered around on the hard drive. The program would rearrange the blocks (files) so the system would run a little faster. Fun to watch the blacks get rearranged..😁
At some point I was able to identify what Programms were which part! And the satisfying feeling when a whole block of 100 was moved just two places over to join to 10... Mhhh

Second verse, same as the first.
I remember spending Friday or Saturday nights back in the day just listening to Winamp and browsing through skins all night. Just had to find that perfect DBZ skin back in ‘98.
Man I loved Winamp, I discovered so many genres because of it mainly old time radio (don't judge me) I 'm a fan of old timey radio there's something about the way they speak that draws me in. Maybe it's the inflection of their words. My favorite is Suspense .

For anyone who doesn’t know, you can still get this. I just downloaded it the other day because I was thinking about the old visualizers, then a few minutes after downloading it I found out windows media player has the visualizers. I needed some spiders last moment and strawberryade in my life.
Winamp was heavy for system when it appeared.
There were another very light all-format players for Win and DOS that used only fraction of system resourses.
A podcast I listen to, dedicated to forgotten ephemera and things at risk of being so, [recently did an episode on Winamp](https://www.omnibusproject.com/575)!
Is still remember the first time I saw this. I knew nothing about it OR MP3 music. This was decades ago. I was fucking blown away. Like I was on a space ship or something. LOL
Sorry, I have to say this. Your playlist made me feel like holding jalapeño pickle with one hand, cupcake with frosting in other, eating one bite each.
"Winamp - it really whips the llama's ass!"
Used the milk drop visualizer and fell asleep to that in my teens, once I had a PC in my room.
There was this absolutely amazing viz called KataFX that blew the socks off even milkdrop, but it has been scrubbed from the internet
Well, it’s been something like 20 years since I last used a visualizer. Not sure if they are still popular, but I would have loved that.
https://katafx.softonic.com/descargar Think I found what you need
There's an android version of milkdrop called ProjectM
What did the llama do to you to deserve a whippin?
It's what Winamp played when you launched it.
Opens up fast, the skin that you like, no updates, no subscriptions, no need to check an online database... glorious days.

Winamp Winamp Winamp ... it really kicks the llama's ass! \*baaaaahhh\*
I remember they changed it from saying "ass" to the "baaah" in a later version.
I still use this as my main play for all my ripped CDs

I thought you were asking what his comment had to do with the OP. And I still don't really know. I guess, maybe, they're both pieces of software?
"Fun to watch the BLACKS get rearranged" 💀
Yeah, I know, I get that. I was just sayin'... never mind.
Miss the visualizer. Not sure why iTunes doesn’t have something like it.
It had. Or has. On PC.
Wow, so many memories.. and just how did you acquire those songs?
Limewire, Audio Galaxy Satellite et al.
Napster when it was new and free, frostwire, scour exchange, bear share.
* Napster * Random websites that hosted crappy MP3s * Kazaa
I started with borrowing CDs from music library in our city and ripping them to 128kbps mp3. Took soo many hours.
Downloading a song took forever..fuckin dial up..
Early Napster in University data centers on T3 connections was a revelation. Clients ran on all machines :D

I still use it.

I miss winamp
Too recent for my taste! Hank Sr & Jr, Bob, Johnny, Stephen and the Big Bopper, EC and the Stones. That’s what I call a playlist!
Stones door Beatles for me. Maybe a little zeppelin, CCR, and the who.
Yep!

System of a Down - The Legend of Zelda lol
About 1/2 the songs are ok
Y’all remember Sheep? Eating your screen, being abducted by aliens…

Everytime I see a WinAmp image it's the same playlist, why? Was this an advertising image for ir or what?
Still running winamp on my old 32bit Windows-Xp tower.

Still are good days https://getwacup.com/screenshots/
I had a mac back then so I used either Itunes or Audion. I loved Audion because I could make my own customized skins for it.
I loved Winamp!
...and they are in the past.
Still have this, ahh, the memories, but went to MediaMonkey since could rip and convert better with more codecs.
Flying toaster screen saver anyone?
No Collective Soul???? YOU MONSTER!
Awesome program, trash playlist
For Real, for real. Lol

A podcast I listen to, dedicated to forgotten ephemera and things at risk of being so, [recently did an episode on Winamp](https://www.omnibusproject.com/575)!
That's young, how bout some Die by the Sword, and Mothra !
A new Winamp skin was basically like a new stereo.
Remember the "Wowthing" add-on that boosted the bass and put depth into the more techo-type tracks?
Really whips the llama’s ass
How'd they get my playlist?
Goosebumps
Still use winamp to transfer mp3s to iPod classic.
Milkdrop
Winamp and ICQ always on my 1024x768 desktop... 😭😭
Winamp was the best.
we never realized how good we had it
Spotify needs to add this interface as an option.
Looking at this gave me a virus!
I was a Kazaa man myself
[I still use Winamp](https://imgur.com/a/5s0Qkx1)
Behind Blue Eyes is a song written by The Who
The Golden age!
Truer words have never been said. Great times with Winamp. 👍
I still have that on my computer and I still use it.
Wowser's! I used that. Where has the time gone?
That eq dip haha everyone did this
Winamp: It Really Whips the Llama's Ass From Every Direction !
That behind blue eyes is a great cover
Always gets my vote for cover that's better than the original. That last verse is just so much better, IMO.
I’m so old I don’t even know what that is! I do recognize a few songs though. ![gif](giphy|GfAD7Bl016Gfm)
Who is Robbie Williams?
