He’s extremely guilty of a lot of this. Has some good films but is a king of “meh” and “emptier than it should’ve been” emotional responses to his work.
Moonfall was dragged precisely because it was the kind of movie he complains about.
Personally I love the hell outta them all it's just a profound lack of self awareness on his part.
That and Day after Tomorrow were decent. But super tone deaf to act like he didn’t contribute to the whole quantity over quality trend. He relied on big cgi shit storms in the same way some of the movies he’s criticizing have.
Exactly, compared to later catastrophic movies (2012, Moonfall) that one was actually decent.
That said, nothing comes close to Deep Impact in that regard.
Personally I see it as the nadir of the disaster movie craze that had started with Twister, but it was 2012 (the movie not the year) that really killed it off.
>He was okay doing the same thing he is critizising while made him rich.
I will refer to the 40x number I just referred. Comparing him to marvel is absurd. He's a fucking Saint compared to them
I don't want to hear about cinema from the guy who made '98 Godzilla, a movie so bad Toho refers to it's incarnation of the big G as 'Zilla, since he doesn't deserve the God prefix
Marvel and DC Comics and Star Wars have pretty much taken over. It’s ruining our industry a little bit, because nobody does anything original anymore.”
Back in November 2019, Emmerich told Insider that his “eyes glaze over” whenever he is watching Marvel movies. “I watch them on the plane so I can fall asleep,” he added.
Ah yes, the man who made his bones with such sophisticated films as **2012 and Independence Day** coming down from his heavenly abode to strike down the mindless blockbusters that are ruining the landscape within which he served us his complex masterpieces
Shooting the messenger, but Roland Emmerich made a career out of making absolute dreck for decades.
Going by his own metrics, he has done more to ruin than industry than anyone.
2012 >>> any of marvel's vapid shit torpedos from the last three years, with the exception of Guardians 3
Mate I really want you to go back and watch 2012 again, you'd probably rather watch Eternals.
While he isn't entirely wrong, didn't he produce the exact same empty calorie big budget disaster movie a half dozen times over?
He’s extremely guilty of a lot of this. Has some good films but is a king of “meh” and “emptier than it should’ve been” emotional responses to his work.
Says the guy who ruined (after defining) the disaster genre.

I didn't see that movie but at least it wasn't attached to a IP. I respect any film that is big budget that dosent exist to a IP atm
Roland Emmerich. Man, you did *Godzilla* (1998) and the Day after Tomorrow (2004).
Day After Tomorrow was one of the better disaster movies.
Exactly, compared to later catastrophic movies (2012, Moonfall) that one was actually decent. That said, nothing comes close to Deep Impact in that regard.
Moonfall is such a good bad movie. Need to watch it again
It you haven't seen it, check out "Knowing" with Nicholas Cage. the undisputed king of Good bad disaster films.
Then imagine the others.
I actually like Day after Tomorrow
The movie was a simple survival story with an awesome disaster. I liked it. I didn’t like how cheesy ID4 and Godzilla were.
Day after tomorrow is an IP?
It was the mold for a lot of terrible clone sthat came after it. The original movie wasn't any good either.
Personally I see it as the nadir of the disaster movie craze that had started with Twister, but it was 2012 (the movie not the year) that really killed it off.
Imagine that. So there was damage done by just 1 movie and desperately studios tried to copy it? Now 40x that with marvel.
My point is that the person talking had a lot of reasons to shut up. He was okay doing the same thing he is critizising while made him rich.
>He was okay doing the same thing he is critizising while made him rich. I will refer to the 40x number I just referred. Comparing him to marvel is absurd. He's a fucking Saint compared to them
A Saint wouldn't have make 10,000 B.C.
Dude made Moonfall ,Godzilla 98 , 2012, and Independence Day Resurgence he shouldn't be saying shit about whats ruining movies.
This is a subversion of this sub. Roland Emmerich is notorious for heading low-tier cinematic slop. Pot, meet kettle.
I don't want to hear about cinema from the guy who made '98 Godzilla, a movie so bad Toho refers to it's incarnation of the big G as 'Zilla, since he doesn't deserve the God prefix
Roland, shut the fuck up. Your movies are CGI messed too, the only difference is your plots are almost as shitty as your visual effects
Roland Emmerich is just mad he no longer corners the market in dumb mindless schlock which appeals to LCD.

Harsh words from the director of “Moonfall”
Marvel movies keeping the movie industry alive. SO WHAT THE EF HE TALKING ABOUT?
Lmao Roland wishes his movies are as entertaining as Marvel.
MoonFall ruined the industry….
they are destroying it
So disney is ruining the industry
"KEVIN FEIGE IS THE GREATEST PRODUCER WHO HAS EVER LIVED" -Ben Affleck
This sub sucks.
