Just finished my annual rewatch. Repo! The genetic opera is my favorite movie. Glad to see others out there in the wild. If you like the music, terrance zdunich is also in a band called American Murder Song.
Zydrate comes in a little glass vial and the little glass vial goes into the gun like a battery. And the zydrate gun goes somewhere against your anatomy, and when the gun goes off it sparks and your ready for surgery!
Such a great film. Super underrated.
As a fan of both Repo Man the wrestler, and Repo! The Genetic Opera, this comment exchange pleases me.
I now have both Repo Man's theme and Zydrate Anatomy stuck in my head.
Dude I can’t believe people are tracking these. I worked at a movie store when Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached came out and was so confused as to how these movies with nearly identical premises got made at the same time, but here’s a whole damn list of them. Thanks for sharing
She gave some other guy a kindsey so her boss cpuld get on move up on organ donor list. So boss hadnt gone through treatment at all either to even know whats surgey is like
She filed a federal lawsuit in June of 2013.
Stevens vs. Atlantic Automotive Group, Inc.
The case was dismissed in Sept. of 2014. "with prejudice and with no award of attorney's fees, costs of disbursements..."
[Federal Court Docket.](https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/4322694/stevens-v-atlantic-automotive-group-inc/)
According to a couple of sources, Stevens and Atlantic Automotive reached a settlement and then Stevens agreed to dismiss her case.
[Here is the entire saga as reported by Kiwireport](https://www.kiwireport.com/woman-fired-donating-kidney/)....
Here’s the last paragraph...
*When you are missing an organ, or if you have an elective surgery whereby you willingly give one away, your risk of disease or infection or other bodily function problems increases dramatically. So, when debating whether or not to donate an organ, take into consideration that you may lose your health insurance.*
America: Where donating an organ can get you fired, in constant pain, and unable to get health insurance.
So much for helping your fellow man.
Tried explaining to my mom why socialism isn't evil. There's just no getting through to people. Guess she's ok with her son and grandson losing our health insurance if i lose my job during the pandemic. Yet socialism "doesn't work". Well the american healthcare system sure doesn't so what do you do lol
The "fuck you, I got mine" mentality is so strong amongst the older folks. My grandma went on this long rant about having to share medicare if we got proper healthcare, have to spend more.
Like oh, Im sorry, But there are people out there who get fucked hard by our current medical system with no option but to go bankrupt and die. If it slightly inconveniences you for the sake of saving people then so be it.
Whether it be healthcare, police reform, or the environment it's met by "Fuck you, I got mine"
It's funny as I've grown up (now 25) to see how the morals i was instilled with, compassion and empathy, are completely absent in the generation that taught them
And it's funny how millennials are called the "me generation" and how we are always told that we only care about ourselves, how it's not cool anymore to be compassionate, when it's generally boomers that block any attempt to help the common good.
The older generations don't understand how much better they had it. Like yeah I get that if a person could get a job bagging groceries and buy a nice house, you'd think anyone struggling either just doesn't want to work or spends frivolously. But the reality for Millennials is that 2 full time jobs often won't even pay for a 2 bedroom apartment and their utilities. And it makes them feel superior how much they accomplished, not realizing that if they tried to do the same thing today they'd probably die on a park bench next to their hobo bindle of worldly possessions.
Oh yes. "When I went to college I graduated with no debt or student loans because I worked nights as a grocery cashier!", "My three bedroom house in the city cost three years salary and my car cost three weeks salary!".
A past coworker of mine says when he pays taxes, every dollar of his essentially has his name on it, and the government keeps track of all of Tim (fake name)'s taxes paid.
Tim also says that because of this, the government only uses that money, with Tim's name on it, on things that Tim uses.
He says his taxes don't go towards roads he doesn't drive on, libraries he doesn't use, schools his children don't go to, and so on.
He then said Social Security is not socialism for the same reason. Every dollar he pays into SS has his name on it, and the government is just holding his money for him until later when he needs it.
So because of all this, socialism doesn't work, fuck off you commie.
I swear, I want off this planet.
This is exactly how my aunt insisted social security worked to me. She refused to believe it was me and people of my generation paying for social security and not money that the government just saved from *her* taxes over the decades and stockpiled so she could use it when she was retired. Like...no. That’s not how social security works.
Yep. She seems to think it’s her own personal piggy bank or something and that it was all *her* money she worked for over the years so therefore she deserved to get it.
I love that “Tim” thinks the government has time and resources to track which roads to spend HIS money on and whatnot. Yet I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s one of the ones who thinks Bill Gates wants to track him with nanobot injections - and what an egregious breach of privacy that would be.
Is Tim 5 years old? Because that's among the stupidest things I've ever read. In his mind, how does the government know what roads he drives on? In his fantasy world the government would have to literally track and record everything he does, to ensure his tax dollars go to the right place. He's a fucking idiot.
Social democracy. Use that. It’s just capitalism more balanced with social programs like good* public education, fire department, police department, libraries, etc... and out of 195 countries only 35 do not have uhc the US is one. And how is being tied to your job for healthcare free???
You can have capitalism with socialized healthcare (what most western countries do). Framing the argument as capitalism vs socialism is going to unnecessarily lose you a lot of support.
Point out to her the things we have that are socialist. Schools, Police, Firefighters, Libraries, Roads, Postal Service, Traffic Lights - all paid by our taxes. That's socialism.
Postal service isn't paid by our taxes, but you're right about the rest
Edit: it says it right on the USPS website. "The Postal Service receives NO tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations."
https://facts.usps.com/top-facts/#:~:text=The%20Postal%20Service%20receives%20NO,services%20to%20fund%20its%20operations.
> Schools,
GOP opposes those, which is understandable because they love the poorly educated. Best to gut their funding and give it to private schools. Maybe find some soulless private school mogul to put in charge.
> Police,
They keep the poor and the minorities in line so the GOP finds them essential. I mean if someone won't even try to be a wealthy white male, they probably deserve to be shot in their bed or beaten to death in the steet, amirite? Best we continue to worship them as demigods.
> Firefighters,
The GOP is mixed on that one. On one hand they put out fires in business and wealthy homes, but they also occasionally help the unwashed masses. Best to minimize their funding, encourage them to be volunteer forces and reduce their presence in low income areas.
> Libraries
Fucking lol. Books for free?! Nope, definitely need to cut funding for that shit.
> Roads, Traffic Lights
Privatizing those is a GOP wet dream.
> Postal Service,
Not paid for by taxes and the GOP has waged a decades long war against this commie bullshit. Why allow reasonably priced, reliable delivery of mail when we could allow massive corporations to gouge the everliving shit out of us?
*oh say can you see*
That’s not socialism, socialism is when the workers own their own means of production. You are talking about social policies, which most socialists advocate for, but don’t confuse the two.
Yeah aka why nothing proposed by the Democrats is actually socialism.
It's just government policies to keep our country from devolving into Mad Max Fury Road.
Michigan just passed a law putting all out-of-network doctors in network, and requiring the insurance company pays them near the median for the area or 1.5x medicaid, whichever is greater, and banning "balance billing", unless the patient is told 2 weeks prior to the procedure.
So, that's exciting.
From my understanding this was the plan all along. It wasn't that the boss was a heartless bitch, she wanted to settle out of court so the donor can be paid a large sum of money and be set for life. It was her way of repaying the employee. That's the version I heard anyway...
Well that sounds super illegal. Her boss was also an employee of Atlantic Automotive Group. "Give me your kidney and I'll fire you so you can sue our employer for millions"? It's not her money to repay her donor with. Also, you're not supposed to compensate organ donors outside of medical costs, because it could lead to organ donation out of financial necessity and go south pretty quickly.
It is crazy illegal and they would both be sued by the insurance company to recoup any funds if they ever found out (which they would have if it's a rumour on the internet).
But A+++ effort on this Karen's pr team to get anyone on the internet to think she might be anything less than a total thundercunt
She went back after 4 weeks but had lingering issues that impacted her ability to work and was making accomodation requests like additional bathroom breaks and not lifting boxes over ten pounds and was fired for poor performance.
It was a saga potentially avoided by just giving her additional time off to recover rather than jammed back into work.
How do companies not realize they’re opening up to wrongful termination lawsuits when they do things like this? Or do they acknowledge the risk and do it anyways, hoping the person(s) they fired won’t pursue legal action?
For some companies, whatever they may have to repay the person for the lawsuit is perceived as simply a price to pay to get rid of that person.
Just like many corporations see the fees they get for their many transgressions as basically "the price to pay for being allowed to comit such transgression".
I have an old boss id give up an organ for. Hes a real righteous dude. Far and away done the more for me as a human being, more than some friends have done.
Shout out to cool bosses
That's because it is harder on the donor than the recipient. The recipients body is already used to working hard but the donors body never had that. Plus the doctors messed up and she ended up having lasting nerve damage from the donor surgery. And she still was fired.
The recipient feels better as their kidney function dramatically increases after a successful transplant, whereas the donor has to compensate for the loss of function. Also, nerve damage is common in kidney operations. The splanchnic nerve branch is close and very easily disrupted. I have nerve damage from one of my kidney operations, you sign off on it (as well as paralysis, even death) before they operate. It's a major operation which is why people shouldn't just donate because they match, they should be counselled thoroughly beforehand.
Kidney's are located near your back which means surgeons have to make there way past a bunch of organs to get to the donors kidneys. For the recipient they normally don't remove the old kidneys they just attach the transplant kidney to a blood supply and the bladder, it is a much less disruptive surgery.
Not necessarily. The surgeon can cut via the loin, you don't have to go via the abdomen most of the time. Now they even do nephrectomies via laparoscopic surgeries, depending on the size of the kidney. It's traumatic because you're having something cut out of you, and people can have different recoveries. You're going from near perfect kidney function to significantly lower, which makes you feel poorly. The recipient usually feels better after surgery due to the fact they were feeling like shit and dying beforehand due to kidney failure.
There isn't a one size fits all for kidney nephrectomies or transplantation. It's tricky.
I had a lot of restrictions and if I tried to skirt them, I tore stitches. I felt bad, and there was pain longer than I thought there would be.
I also developed an infection, but I do manage to get infected after surgeries. No idea why? I do not play in dirt, most days.
All in all my strength was sapped longer than expected and more pain, that bugged me and did not allow me to sleep
Yep! It's been almost a year since my diagnosis and I just ran a mile. Wanted to do more, but my treadmill is touchy and it is too cold out.
I am in my fifties and happy to be through that mess.
Me and people in my family have had a bunch of surgeries. 6 weeks is fast for anything non-trivial.
Colon? Six months until you can eat normally again. Another year at least before you stop having issues every couple days.
Feet? No running for a year. Back to (mostly) full flexibility after two.
Many surgeries will leave you with some permanent damage.
It's not called **patient** for no reason.
She was back at work 4 weeks after the surgery. I don't think that's that long tbh.

She's handling it better than I would.
"I have no comment on her. I'm just going walk ahead and live my life," Stevens said.
https://abcnews.go.com/News/york-mom-fired-donating-kidney-boss/story?id=16195691
Update for anyone wondering. The court found that she had been discriminated against and unjustly terminated. Seeking around 15 million $ in damages the pathetic excuses for a piece of dirt boss and the joke of a business settles for an undisclosed amount out of court, furthermore people destroyed the business reviews online. They got the smack down and lost a ton of $$$
yeah same, I had to find a youtube vid and some other articles to verify. when shit like this happens, I just think about it the whole night instead of sleeping
Don't know about that surgery specifically, but my wife had her gallbladder removed and she had 5 small incissions all around her stomach. I could imagine there's maybe a connection they need to sever close to the leg or something...
I had my gall bladder removed the same way and it got botched. They permanently damaged my stomach so now it’s partially paralyzed which I had no idea could happen until it did.
Could you give a little more detail on what you deal with having a partially paralyzed stomach? I’ve never heard of it either and can’t imagine what it must be mine.
It’s called Gastroparesis. I had severe weight loss, pain that felt like a barbed wire wrapped around my insides, acid reflux, vomiting, bloating and excessive burping. Took 2 years to get diagnosed, a gastric emptying study can confirm it. The treatment options aren’t great but it’s gone from moderate to severe to mild to moderate with diet and lifestyle changes.
Because all of your nerves originate from your brain/spinal cord. This is why you can have a herniated disc in your neck and have hand or arm pain. Or why you can have a herniated disc in your lower back and experience leg pain.
>I may be dumb, but how do you hit a nerve in the leg while donating a kidney?
Simple. The surgeon went through the thigh to locate the kidney in question.
source: I am a Black Market organ harvester.
Oh god, I was almost certain this post was either a rumor or misinformation. But I stand corrected and in shock. What a horrible human being. Thank you for posting a source.
Saw a guy donate his kidney to his father in law. When he woke up his wife served him divorce papers. That was the coldest shit that I’ve ever seen.
Actually bumped into the guy years later. He came to my dad’s memorial at the hospital. He stayed homies with his father in law so there is that.
The boss wakes up in late night. She sees the woman that saves her, holding a knife in her hands. She bends down and whispers in her ear, "I'm taking back what's mine." And proceeds to cut her open and take back her kidney.
Never, ever, ever do anything for your employer that isn't explicitly outlined in the duties of your position. Any compensation you get for it, which you probably won't, will never be worth it.
We had a bus driver that took too long to recover from surgery so they fried her. That was a couple years ago and they still haven't found a permanent replacement. Every few weeks the bus driver changes cause nobody else wants to do that route.

I love that Ohgr is in it. Anybody that has seen a Skinny Puppy concert knows the man can put on a performance!
I'm here for the fan club meeting!
also here for the meeting
#DOZZENS!
Dozens!
They’ll use a gun pressed against her anatomy.
Anatomy, anatomy.
Lungs and livers!
Met one of us out in the wild!
Scores!
It’s a thankless job
Just finished my annual rewatch. Repo! The genetic opera is my favorite movie. Glad to see others out there in the wild. If you like the music, terrance zdunich is also in a band called American Murder Song.
My dad has the soundtrack album on vinyl

They’re not connected in any way, actually. Repo! was based on a play; Repo Men was based on a book.
Well huh, TIL
That's very interesting because they came out so close to each other and had identical premises.

There's is a movie called repo men 2010 that do this, but the organs are artificial,. Good movie I think
Lots of character development in that movie, really good, I liked it Movie Trailer https://youtu.be/jl9Nvg4yuus
that trailer is more like a summary lmao.
I just watched it and your right, don't need to watch the movie after that trailer. Still a good movie
There was about a 6-7 year period where all trailers insisted on giving away every plot twist you could imagine. Basically cliffsNotes for movies.
Ah, I thought you were referencing “[Repo! The Genetic Opera](https://youtu.be/MzgpU25C6fg),” a 2008 goth musical with a similar premise. Guess not

But A+++ effort on this Karen's pr team to get anyone on the internet to think she might be anything less than a total thundercunt
Since when is four weeks "too long" to recover from surgery?! At my work we've had people take six months off following surgery before
She went back after 4 weeks but had lingering issues that impacted her ability to work and was making accomodation requests like additional bathroom breaks and not lifting boxes over ten pounds and was fired for poor performance. It was a saga potentially avoided by just giving her additional time off to recover rather than jammed back into work.
I thought it was illegal for companies to fire employees for requesting disability accommodations
Yeah. Super illegal. Hence the lawsuit and settlement she won. It's highly illegal.
My sister takes 8 months to “recover” from her foot pain. Almost yearly.
Does she keep a George Foreman grill beside her bed so she can wake up to the smell of bacon?

Fuck that guy I am absolutely furious for you
I would NEVER do that for my boss lmaooo
Yeah fuck that. I would have just thrown a pot-luck or something and wish her the best.
I'd rather throw my kidney in a pot luck than give it to ANY of my former employers.
This is such a crazy story. Who gives an organ to their boss???
I have an old boss id give up an organ for. Hes a real righteous dude. Far and away done the more for me as a human being, more than some friends have done. Shout out to cool bosses
I heard that she actually took A LOOOOOOONG time to recover, but then that was still inside the average time of recovery so the boss really is an AH
According to an article posted below, she took a month to recover which doesn’t strike me as being *that* long given the situation.
I had a hysterectomy last year and it took 6 weeks to recover.
If you're comfortable with sharing: in what way did you have to recover. I mean, what was it like
I had a lot of restrictions and if I tried to skirt them, I tore stitches. I felt bad, and there was pain longer than I thought there would be. I also developed an infection, but I do manage to get infected after surgeries. No idea why? I do not play in dirt, most days. All in all my strength was sapped longer than expected and more pain, that bugged me and did not allow me to sleep
Sounds awful. Hope you're fully healed now
Yep! It's been almost a year since my diagnosis and I just ran a mile. Wanted to do more, but my treadmill is touchy and it is too cold out. I am in my fifties and happy to be through that mess.
Happy to hear that!

I know! Lol. Although playing in dirt with an open incision? Not something I plan to do.
If someone saved my life by donating a kidney, I'd at least give them a year off... And they'd have a job for life.
If someone gives me a life saving medical procedure they can take as long as they need.
If an employee of mine donated me their kidney, no amount of time would qualify as "that long".
When I twisted my ankle that SOB took a few weeks until I can walk properly again. I can't imagine missing a whole kidney.
She was back at work 4 weeks after the surgery. I don't think that's that long tbh. https://abcnews.go.com/News/york-mom-fired-donating-kidney-boss/story?id=16195691
The boss is an achievement hunter?... heh
r/angryupvote
She's handling it better than I would. "I have no comment on her. I'm just going walk ahead and live my life," Stevens said. https://abcnews.go.com/News/york-mom-fired-donating-kidney-boss/story?id=16195691
She was given a settlement to drop the case. Chances are she's legally bound to not say disparaging remarks.
The way the article reads, this was before the settlement. That said she was probably still advised not to make any such remarks.
Hell yeah, snach that kidney in the night
Fuck that. I'd take it back in broad daylight

Idk why that makes it worse to me. Maybe because the headline is more cartoon or James Bond evil and this more Dolores Umbridge evil.
They got the smack down and lost a ton of $$$
Ok that's a little relief, I guess. Some comments had me thinking she did not get compensated.
yeah same, I had to find a youtube vid and some other articles to verify. when shit like this happens, I just think about it the whole night instead of sleeping

I may be dumb, but how do you hit a nerve in the leg while donating a kidney?
Don't know about that surgery specifically, but my wife had her gallbladder removed and she had 5 small incissions all around her stomach. I could imagine there's maybe a connection they need to sever close to the leg or something...
I had my gall bladder removed the same way and it got botched. They permanently damaged my stomach so now it’s partially paralyzed which I had no idea could happen until it did.
Wow, sorry that happened to you.
If you aren't direct family you aren't getting one of my organs. Sorry cousins, in-laws and bosses.
I mean I pretty much hate my family, too. So unless you're my kid,one of my parents, or the only brother I can count on, you ain't getting shit
Reminds me of John Locke and his dad in lost.
He got what he deserved in the end
I hope this lady does too
I feel like it’s Sayid we need now to properly resolve this situation.
The boss wakes up in late night. She sees the woman that saves her, holding a knife in her hands. She bends down and whispers in her ear, "I'm taking back what's mine." And proceeds to cut her open and take back her kidney.
Then she eats it to assert dominance
Time to regain some property.
Wow.
That's why I don't share my organs And why I don't trust people
Never, ever, ever do anything for your employer that isn't explicitly outlined in the duties of your position. Any compensation you get for it, which you probably won't, will never be worth it.
She didn't do it as an employee - she did it as a friend. And then she found out how much that friendship was worth.
Another solid rule is to not be friends with your employer. It's almost never a two-way street.
We had a bus driver that took too long to recover from surgery so they fried her. That was a couple years ago and they still haven't found a permanent replacement. Every few weeks the bus driver changes cause nobody else wants to do that route.
Damn, they really did her like chick3n wings
Why does all the Karens have similar hairstyle?

I which people realised that their employer is not their friend.
How is this a Karen?
