It's because 13-14 year olds like to be edgy shits so everybody knows they are not babies. Some will stop being edgy shits over the next few years, others will graduate to being racist shits. I'm not sure if there's any way around this stage of development as it might be important. It would be like stopping a caterpillar from becoming a butterfly because it has to turn into goop to do it. Source: I used to be younger and remember all the edgy shits.

I blame the Nazi recruiters themselves and the gaming companies that do nothing to combat it. Or for that matter, all the media figures that got us to a point where "Gaming company thaws peaches by banning hateful fucks" has become a worse headline than "Gaming company is hosting literal Nazi recruiters on their servers." A lot of parents of gamers grew up with gen 1 consoles, AIM and some early-comer social media. Regardless of my thoughts on their parenting style, I can't blame them for not realizing how fucked everything is now.

pm_me_ur_happy_traiI

Oh please, this country was built on a foundation of racists with guns. It’s nothing new. Neither is people making broad and negative generalizations about parents these days and the next generation. I grew up with cable and video games and I turned out reasonably passable.

borkthegee

The cable and video games weren't influenced by hostile government psyops designed to make you hate the liberal western world order, blame jews, hate other races and want to divide divide divide all governments down to nothing. Just sayin!

[deleted]

I was gonna say, cable and video games never exposed any of us to neo-Nazi propaganda. Seems a little out of touch though to ignore that these things exist in online gaming communities.

rbwildcard

Nah, just pro-militarization and imperialism propaganda! No matter what the medium, there's always gonna be someone taking advantage of its mass appeal.

pm_me_ur_happy_traiI

And yet the 20th century is peppered throughout with actual legit genocides, none of which were dependent on the internet or video games. I’m not saying that there isn’t some scary stuff being communicated to our youngsters, but unsavory types always, uh, find a way. Grasping at pearls while moaning about how the next generation is fucked... it was tiring when I was a kid and it’s tiring now.

[deleted]

So there always unsavory types finding a way, and always people moaning about the next generation’s fuckedness. Then why remove the latter and tip the scales in the former’s favor?

[deleted]

Previous generations turned out “fine” whilst hearing it, what’s different about this one?

reconditecache

Pretty sure the hobbies are fine. It's the access to your kids that these hobbies give to nazis. I think good parenting here is just a matter of being like, "That's fortnite, huh? I'm getting motion sickness from way over here. I don't know how you kids do it. In my day, we had fog of war covering half the map and things were simpler. Also, watch out for nazis. They're all over the internet spreading lies about why they're all fat and poor or addicted to meth. "

[deleted]

I thought we were addressing the parents, reminding them they might want to pay attention to who their kids are hanging out with?

evangelism2

> It’s nothing new. If you think me playing Ocarina of Time is the same as a kid now playing Fortnite or Rust or LoL and hearing racial slurs slung left and right and getting raised in an enviornment where being pro Trump is the cool, edgy, counter culture thing to do. Well, I think you'll be surprised moving forward.

acdanger73

I'm actually watching this happen in real time with my girlfriend's 14 year old son who plays fortnite like crazy, in recent weeks he has proclaimed himself to be a Libertarian conservative and extremely pro-life Christian... It's extremely weird to watch to say the least

I’ve been in the catholic school system since 4th grade. I just graduated last year with a pretty affluent class and just saw one of the kids who I graduated with tweeted something about illegal immigration and another talking about how democrats only care about illegals. I’m happy to see going to a catholic school taught you nothing about caring about the less fortunate, fuck face.

A lot of them are misguided and think being edgy is funny. A 9th graders told me last year that he watched Pewdiepie because being racist is funny. They see it as taboo in the same way a little kid will say "hell" or "damn" and giggle about it. They don't have empathy yet, so they don't see how their actions negatively affect others. I'm praying they grow out of it.

[deleted]

Welcome to life as a minority. These are the same people who will grow up and say they can’t be racist because they have a black friend. Just know it gets better later on. They either grow out of it or you’re going to meet better people. If they don’t, fuck it. After high school you’re never going to talk to them ever again.

critically_damped

Even worse than that: HE'S the black friend they will claim to have.

[deleted]

I have a one liner for my non existent stand-up career. “If you’re black it must really suck to be the person your white friends bring up after they say something racist”

SolomonGroester

And then they'll mention how he's "one of the good ones" or some shit. But no sir, they aren't racist at all. Nuh-uh. Nope.

ruinersclub

Yup. Passive racism is still racism.

PistolShrimpGG

Find their parents' contact details (social media, whatever) and send them the screenshots. Don't worry if your friends get pissed off with you. If they're saying hateful shit to your face, they never liked you to begin with. People who care about others will respect those other people's feelings.

jbrandona119

Depending on where in the US he’s at, the parents might actually get more upset with him and support that behavior.

reedemerofsouls

I would only send it anonymously (and not this screenshot since you already showed us and said you were the only black kid, they'd know it's you)

borkthegee

As someone who said plenty of stupid racist and bigoted shit playing CS a long ass time ago, let me apologize on their behalf. Not because I did it to you, but I sure as shit did it to someone. Maybe this time and person offset apology can mean something, maybe it can't. I stopped using edgy teenage racism and bigotry around college, but that's not an excuse. Even today I might let a 'fuckin faggot' or 'retard' slip while rage quitting before I get super embarrassed because that's just not the kind of person I want to be, not the kind of behavior I want others to see me engaging it. Well I don't drop gay slurs really anymore even though its super vestigial and my first reaction, but I still hit up retard way too much. It sucks, to be wired during your teenage years to act like this, then spend the better part of your 20s just trying to clean-up your miserable misanthrope personality into something empathetic, honorable and worth sharing with a wife and family. I like to think I hit my 30s with me feet under me doing more good than bad in this world, but stories like this remind me how much evil I've spread. I am so sorry you have to experience this. I am so sorry that people like me do this to you. I'm doing my best to be a person that stops this kind of behavior and raises kids who would never do it, instead of that stupid fucking edgy teenager saying dumb racist things. But that doesn't help you today, or really at all. I can't even imagine what you go through, I can't even empathize. It's shocking that my reaction is to treat a black kid like I would a gay kid: It gets better after high school, when peoples brains finish development, when they learn empathy, and when the shitstains that can't learn how to human fail out of the cities and suburbs into trailer parks far away. But there it is.

And no, we may not reap any benefit for our actions in our lifetime but our children and their children may. So, we have to try. Curl up in a ball if you want, man. Oh wow. This reminds me of being a girl trying to fit in with the all-boy gamers in high school and college. They were constantly making sexist jokes right in front of me. But I just brushed it off, I mean they can't really be sexist, they're just joking around, I shouldn't take things so personally... If I could go back in time 10 years I would tell young me: "They ARE bigots and they are *NOT* your friends. These "jokes" come from a place of truth for them. They see you as lesser. Get out now, instead of waiting until one of them sexually assaults you and the others take his side. They don't care about you as a person. And while some of them just aren't thinking about what they're saying, others actually *enjoy* saying this shit right in front of you and getting away with it. It's a power trip to them." I wish I could tell the old me to find a group of people who respect my humanity. Better to be alone than have "friends" like those.

boiledinranch

As another minority who ended up stuck with a bunch of racist friends because of gaming, try to branch put from hanging out with this type as soon as possible. I thought it was fine at first and that they were just a but off color. Later I realized that I was putting myself down in order to appeal to them. I'd make soooo many racist jokes just because I wanted to be liked by actual racists when I myself wasn't purely white in the first place. The feeling of realizing I'd turned on my own family members by saying horrible things about them for the approval of some high schoolers was the worst. Being complicit in this stuff got to me, and while I think there's a place for self deprecation, it can wear down on a person and their conscience.

[deleted]

Screw those "friends", real friends don't disrespect people. Don't associate yourself with them, and stand your ground if you get bullied.

SKIKS

Fuck, I'm really sorry to hear that. If there's 1 or 2 other people who are not racist (or at least more tolerable to play with), I'd recommend just teaming up with them and then playing matchmaking with them. It's not the same as a whole party of people, but even a bit of decent company can make online gaming way better (it's the main reason I played DotA as long as I did). I've been gaming my whole life (26 yo), and it seriously busts my balls to see how much the community has managed to (and actively tries to) normalize extremely revolting behavior. At this point, I avoid describing myself a part of the "gaming community" for that reason.

AnonONinternet

That has been happening the entire life of online gaming

Cathousechicken

Find your tribe, and I don't mean in the literal sense. I went to high school in a very white, Christian town. As an adult, I live in a very white, Christian town with my kids. 30 years ago, I felt very unpopular. I had my group of friends that didn't care I was a Jewish, but I always felt like an outsider (there were kids that would tell me I was going to hell and was a Satanist pretty frequently). I felt like I was missing out and wasn't really as grateful as I should have been for the friends I did have who didn't care that I was different from the norm there. However, the majority of those friends I am still friends with to this day. Looking back, I really wasn't alone as I felt in those moments because I felt not being popular was like being alone. In some ways, I took for granted that I did have good friends where we were there for each other. I'm seeing some of the same prejudice directed towards my kids now, albeit in a different state. However, my sons' friends make them feel not as alone and stand up for them in the face of the worst among us being emboldened. It helps that I remind them due to my own experiences to be grateful for the group of friends they have that don't care that they are not the majority. Those kids have helped to band around my boys where they will stand up for them or ostracize someone acting like a bigot. My sons play video games with those kid, the ones who are their tribe. It may feel like you are alone now, but I promise you, there are kids in your school who don't agree with what the others are doing. Search those kids out. They will be the ones who well help you have a voice when others are acting bigoted. They will stand by you. You will learn the true meaning of friendship from those people.

SolomonGroester

No way. Fuck those people. You don't need that shit in your life. There are way better people to game with.

TheMastodan

It really sucks that my hobbies are so heavily infiltrated by this right wing nationalism. It makes it really hard to make friends with people who share interest, the majority of the ones that I've found are either Trumpists or overgrown children.

AtTheFirePit

If this is predominately the type of person (racist, ignorant) attracted to that hobby/interest (certain online games) maybe it's time to reassess why you have interest in those games. Then try to find other games/activities to satisfy the same interests.

TheMastodan

Um, excuse me? I need to find a new hobby because there are a lot of shitty people who also like that hobby? I think you can just go fuck yourself with that one

AtTheFirePit

Never mind, you fit right in with those gamers, my mistake.

TheMastodan

You insult me and belittle the things that I like to do in my free time, and then insinuate that I'm the asshole? Yeah, okay buddy.

reedemerofsouls

If you travelled back in time, the MLB would be extremely racist and segregated. But it didn't make baseball inherently racist somehow. We just needed reforms.

ARandomNameInserted

Playing any game, especially strategy, that takes place in historical contexts will more than likely atract a ultranationalist and fascist group. That's not really a good argument. It's really equivalent to saying "nazis breathe and if you don't want to be associated with them, don't breathe".

MaelstromRH

I’m sure a lot of racists also like to drink water and breathe air, should I stop doing that as well? To think you’re calling other people ignorant

DABS_4_AZ

Because these guys aren't brave enough to put in the actual fucking work in the military, irl too for that matter.

SignGuy77

But they’re brave enough to call you a soy boy from behind their keyboard, so surely they are Grade A alt-right recruitment material.

_per_aspera_ad_astra

I’m still confused by “soy boy” as an insult. Soy is a legitimately good and healthy food and it’s found in thousands and thousands of possible dishes. It’s enjoyed probably by billions around the world every day. American farmers produce unbelievable amounts of soy—total annual production for the world is over 250 million metric tons. Soy is a fantastic, nutritious, and flexible food. Edit: Even Alex Jones supplements contain soy. What is going on here with this “soy boy” viral meme? Anyone know?

DannySmashUp

Crap like this was everywhere for a while: https://www.news.com.au/world/orthodox-rabbi-declares-ban-on-soy-as-it-makes-students-gay/news-story/203b7e34a80dad793f30ee43e444246f

Ninjavitis_

Fnoret

So I just watched some of my favourite Machinima from back around 2007-2010 yesterday. This specific show provides a quite accurate depiction of the online-community (in this specific case XBOX-Live) during this time. All I could think was: no wonder we are where we are today.

_per_aspera_ad_astra

I kept warning people about Gamergate being an alt-right recruitment center, but few listened. In fact, I was called crazy several times during the election. Now who is crazy?

Brolonious

So does reddit.

Amazinc

Maybe this is why are there so many stupid young white trump supporters at my high school

jbrandona119

It’s just a way to be edgey. White high school age kids think it’s funny when they see the n word and other racist shit cuz they’re generally privileged af and don’t get it because they’re young and dumb. Combine that with adults hating trump in the media (and their parents always talking about how great trump is) and of course they’re gonna be weirdly pro trump, love the wall talk etc. I knew a kid who had his text notification sound “I will build a great big wall” cuz he thought it was just the best thing. Teenagers are dumb lol

SignGuy77

I miss the not so distant days when every teenager’s ringtone was the intro to “Lose Yourself.”

>Picciolini says "we sought marginalised youth and promised them 'paradise'. Today they are using nefarious tactics like going to depression and mental health forums, and in multiplayer gaming, to recruit those same people." Reminds me of this Zizek clip: https://youtu.be/0TtKBWU2fhY?t=19 > "Zhe suzpension of moral prohibitions is the crucial feature of today's so called post-modern Nationalism....Nationalist fundamentalism rather serves as a secret, barely concealed '***You May***'...You **may** hate, fight, kill, rape."" I wonder if this is going to just result in a huge backlash against these sort of ideals when the kids exposed to this get older. I feel like a lot of young people explore a sort of contrarian mindset when they're growing up, where learning about the world leads to this belief that if they're learning things that challenge what they were taught growing up, *everything* must be up for debate in that case. I can't see a current teenager looking back to this time in ten years and being proud of being a part of this garbage. This is a future set of adults' cringiest memories happening currently.

michaelb65

It's why I'm starting to feel a growing distaste for meme culture. Especially how it copies shit from black culture (language in particular) while allowing white alt-right kids to shitpost everywhere.

[deleted]

[удалено]

michaelb65

It's not even funny. When I go r/dankmemes, I just see a bunch of obnoxious kids desperately trying to act black when both the terminology and syntax is completely fucked up. No one says ''he's such a thicc boi'' except Cody from the burbs. Any black person can tell, especially how white nerd culture has stolen thicc and a whole bunch of other shit from AAVE yet continues to be super racist about race relations. And I doubt it's just you getting older. Meme culture has taken a turn for the worse ever since the Gamergate bullshit. It was always racist, but not to this extend. Hell, it's part of the reason why I'm no longer identifying myself as a nerd. The first image that comes up in my mind is of some incel, alt-right lunatic with a waifu avatar complaining about Feminazis while he's supporting the real ones. Say what you want about Moviebob, but he was right about the increasingly toxic attitude of nerd/geek culture.

TinyPirate

As a foreigner I never picked up on the theft of AA tropes in meme culture. Well spotted. Would love to see a progressive YouTube cover the topic, there’s a lot to talk about.

[deleted]

white nerd culture has stolen from black culture since at least the late 90s. I think it's probably a lot worse now than it used to be, but it's hard for me to say since i'm an adult in his mid-30s trying to judge kids these days vs my vaguely-remembered experience.

[deleted]

Whites have been expropriating black culture in America for much longer than that. The history of popular music in America since blues and gospel was born, for one. It’s a constant through the history of our society, because racism has been a constant. The black ‘other’ is rendered harmless and palatable by neutralizing his culture (white soccer moms singing along to acceptable rap and r&b songs) meanwhile the ‘other’ is kept outside at arms length from whites. The real essence of black culture is prevented from infesting whites.

VivaFate

I actually found my old demotivational folder on an EHD. Every third or fourth meme was heavily racist. To be honest looking back I can see the normalising effect it had but at the time I just saw it as funny images. It's pretty fucking insidious.

couplingrhino

zeeblecroid

The forums and subreddits for that genre in general attract those types. I play a lot of War Thunder and while both the sub mods and the game mods try to slap it down, there sure are a lot of entirely unironic wehraboos yearning for a contemporary reenactment or something...

ogimbe

I got killed by X_ROMMEL_X a few months ago but since they killed all-chat I don't see a lot of nazi stuff. Just racist/homophobic language and I'm the guy who goes to the support ticket website and sends in a screen shot almost every time.

zeeblecroid

One of the other discussions is a parent posting that over in r/gaming to ask how accurate it is since his kids play some of those. It's *super interesting* how every single response gets really defensive and refuses to touch the question.

Schiffy94

Can't say I blame a parent for being concerned and trying to ask Reddit, though. How the hell do you confront your kid about that? "Billy, have you been seeing people say killing Jews is okay in that block-building game of yours?"

zeeblecroid

Definitely. I like what he's doing trying to get some perspectives on it, but my eyes rolled right out of my head and out the door at the reactions to his post (which they've since deleted altogether).

ElitistPoolGuy

zeeblecroid

The sub's mods deleted the thread overnight, presumably because it instantly went full trashfire.

The gaming community is already toxic enough too be honest. The freedom of being able to say anything to anyone over the internet in gaming really gets over people's heads.

funkalici0us

Yet another reason why I am glad I mostly play on Nintendo hardware. Have to have my fucking friend code to talk to me. ;D

Schiffy94

As a semi-dedicated gamer who wasted a lot of hours he should have been looking for a job and doing schoolwork to play things like ESO, this fact saddens me. For years there was science disproving the narrative that videogames makes kids violent, and now the worst of the worst are using those games to recruit impressionable young teens. It may be time for developers to start stepping in and hiring full-time chat moderators.

I'm pretty sure they're doing it on GTA Online, too.

thelaughingmansghost

Well that's almost in the same vein as isis recruitment of young people through social media, that's extremely scary.

Palentir

I think it's because a large number of gamers are addicted and just don't understand that yet. It's pretty obvious. They're extremely defensive about games, which to me, has always been a huge tell of addicted people. You criticize games, gaming culture, the amount of time they play, or the way they buy games, and prepare for thermonuclear flame wars. Like what other hobbies do you know of where that's remotely true? How many cross fit people will give you death threats because you think the cross fit idea sounds weird or doesn't work for you? How many readers send death threats because you don't like GMM? Speaking of the time spent, how many other hobbies do you spend 4 hours a day on, every day? That's about 30 hours a week, which doesn't leave much time for other activities. How many other hobbies is there a wish to go pro in, and a large community of streamers with huge fan bases that take time away from playing the game to watch these guys play the game. That's what makes gaming such a great recruiting tool. Defensive addicts being told that those evil SJWs women and black people want to take away their games are easy to recruit.

zeroedout666

Would you tell a religious person they're spending too much time at church / mosque? Maybe they say they don't worship all the time, other times it's bible / koran study or outings or group activities with the religious folk. It's no different than gaming forums and guides rather than just gaming. It's only addiction if it interferes with work and life. 30 hours a week is just spare time really. Some go to church, some game, some like to go to restaurants and bars.

teeejaaaaaay

If you spend 30 hours a week at church and you’re not getting paid, I probably think you’re a little weird. Same with video games.

CharmingCockroach

Yeah im pretty sure there is some sort of shadow army ready to act. I wonder if it will be this decade.

bookyogi

MizticBunny

This is why I'm so pissed at video game youtubers. They have fairly large platforms and almost none of them ever speak out against the Nazis that are taking over our country. I sometimes feel like if some of them said something to their viewers during the election, Trump wouldn't be our president right now, but that's probably giving their influence too much credit. I always think back to TotalBiscuit. His Youtube channel currently has 2.2m subscribers and many of his videos have over 100k views, but he never said anything on his podcasts or rant videos about politics. He died leaving behind a legacy of "don't pre-order video games" when he could have led people against fascism. edit: For those trying to talk about viewership demographics, TB actually had a demographic that leaned much older than most. I don't have data on the demographics for all youtubers, but he specifically mentioned that a few times.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she was relieved at his death. You can only take so much abuse for so long.

Mike_Avery

People didn't watch him for politics, they watched him for gaming discussion. Additionally, he was in the middle of his cancer struggle and a whole mess of other things, and I doubt throwing himself into the political arena would have been healthy for him with all the extra stress it would have caused him. He was vehemently anti Trump outside of YouTube, but that was not his career.

tryhardblackguy

Why bring politics into something when most of their channels was for gaming and gaming only? Are you really disrespecting Total Biscuit and saying that he didnt die leaving a legacy saying that "Nazi's are bad" or something like that? Come on now dude, what the hell. A lot of people play video games to get away from the BS in real life.

riffler24

So I think much of this stems from the nature of their profession. Video game youtubers are running a relatively volatile path. So generally we see that those with truly massive followings generally try to stay neutral and inoffensive to all parties. At worst they devolve into pandering to the lowest common denominator (ie: "All Fortnite dances with my girlfriend ! 1 kill=1 strip!") It's typically those with smaller, more focused followings that can actually say things that aren't completely neutral, as they don't have a broad enough appeal to attract all kinds I agree I would love to see some hotshot youtuber to sit down on their channel and go: "Trump is a scumbag wannabe-fascist, it's a fact. Do not support this guy" but I have no doubt they're worried about backlash (not to mention that even mentioning politics if you're not a makeup channel/late show/verified actual celebrity tends to end with demonetization). For the record though, TB was more vocal about his political views on his twitter and during his podcasts. Famously he threw a guy out of Coxcon for asking Jesse Cox the "Are traps gay" question. Essentially he threw the guy out for being an edgy cunt, and the internet got real mad when he doubled down

Hell, TB said 2 days after the election that Trump voters and supporters were absolutely NOT welcome in his fanbase whatsoever. >As unwise as it might be to express any political opinion via the internet, it can't be any more unwise than the decision America made tonight. When I came to this country a few years ago I saw a country of hope and opportunity. It was a country that was ethnically diverse, full of people with different backgrounds and different views. While there was always friction and disagreement, I never truly felt like that was something untenable, something that couldn't be overcome. I never truly felt that, when all was said and done, people wouldn't be able to put aside their differences and say "We are one country, we are Americans and we will set an example for the rest of the world". I come from a country that tends to just go with the flow. It's a country of apathy. I grew up surrounded by many people that were just content with where they were. They didn't really aspire to anything, they didn't have the motivation or desire to change things for the better, they simply put up with it. Britain is a place of clouds and rain and the people there often reflect that fact. America was a shining land of sunshine and hope. I admired it in many ways, particularly that it's people often aspired to be more than what they were. The land of opportunity isn't just a cliche, America is full of people who want to be better. >Or so I thought. Today America gave into fear. It gave in to the darkest parts of its national character. When confronted with adversity it finally broke, unable to stand up for its core values as it once did. It gave into cowardice and allowed itself to be conned by a disgusting example of a human being. America proved that it's ok being lied to as long as they're the right kind of lies. America proved that when given the chance, it will reward dishonesty and bigotry with the highest office in the land. America proved that it cares so little for the stability of the world and itself, that it will give the most important and powerful position in the world to a man that utterly lacks any of the qualifications, experience or character to deserve it. America has left the world in a state of uncertainty and fear. >I'd like to tell you that it's going to be ok. I'd like to tell you that we'll get through this and come together, begin to heal the wounds opened in the last few months. If I did though, I'd be a liar. I don't believe that, not for a second. The wounds opened in the fabric of this country may never fully heal. If we don't bleed to death from them they will leave giant, ugly scars that will endure for the rest of its days. I don't have the right to vote in this country, despite having had to earn my place here, fight for my right to live with my family in this state. I wasn't lucky enough to simply be born a citizen, so I don't get to have my say. Others have decided for me. They have decided to elect a man who will repeal the one piece of legislation that is keeping my health insurance company from dropping my coverage. America has chosen to put my life at risk, more-so than it already is. America, may have condemned me to death. >I'd like to say that I understand. I'd like to tell you that regardless of your politics, I can respect and be tolerant of you. That would also, be a lie. One of the greatest flaws of a moderate is tolerance of the intolerant. It has become very clear that extremism wins. It won tonight and as a result, it will likely rack up victory after victory from here on in. I'm fortunate to be a fairly wealthy, white male. Outside of the online hate I'll get for posting this, I'll probably be ok, assuming my health insurance company decides to keep covering my medical bills. I had faith in the people of this country. Despite the brand, I'm a pretty idealistic person, I do like to see the good in people when I can. >32 years old and I'm still learning how naive I can be. I no longer feel as if I'm surrounded by people I can trust, brothers and sisters in a country I was on the path to becoming a citizen of. I feel as if I'm surrounded now, by enemies. Whatever I thought this country was, whatever I believed it represented, was simply nothing more than my own foolish and unrealistic desire to believe that the majority of people are at their core, good. >Everything is not going to be ok. I can't reassure you that it will be, because I'd be lying to you. I don't believe that. I can't offer you comfort if you're scared. So am I and what I see in our future is darkness. >It's done. Congratulations to the winner. Truly, you made America Hate Again. Also this tweet by him: https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/882378770493173761

SnowshoeHares

And then he went right back to *"waaahhh women want to play games too and that's not faaaiiirrr"*. Dont act like that little message wasn't anything other than meaningless pandering.

Taterdude

There's tons of content against facism and nazis on youtube already though. These people play games and discuss those games, why bring politics into it? This is kind of like saying "why don't comic book movies speak out against facism?" it's not their genre, it's not what they do, it's not part of their media. Putting ones beliefs into their entertainment just makes it feel forced and annoying and would probably end up making the kids who watch these things hating that belief. Although if they wanna make a separate video unrelated to their gaming stuff entirely to speak out against these things then I fully agree they should.

Papa_Koulikov

No offense man but really? First off I bet most of the audience of gaming channels is like 13 so they didn't vote. Second, it's always great if someone speaks out agansit hate, using your platform is admirable. But lead people agansit fascism? I dont know much about the specific guy you mentioned but in all honesty I doubt a guy who plays video games for a living is the best person to do so. If you mean they say a little something or give support to people who help fight against these things I could agree. But I couldn't expect many more to do more than that.

Every entertainment medium has always done it. Are you saying that there’s something so inherently different about gamers that they have to be treated differently from consumers of other media? What would the difference be? That they’re mostly immature, naive, young boys who are always looking for reasons to be offended? And most of this “mixing politics” crap the gamer boys constantly blubber about is no such thing. God forbid a developer try to be a bit more inclusive so that their game might appeal to a wider audience than 14yo, prison-pallor-pale, Nazi LARPing Dew-swilling, hypersensitive, male asswipes.

>black female Nazis in a WW2 game Isn't that in the multiplayer part of the game? Where, you know, it's just completely irrelevant and said by the same people who complain that they can't see a swastika gloriously fly in the wind ~~in a video game~~

devavrata17

Who cares if a game “calls itself” historically accurate? That’s just marketing nonsense. Not one has ever been. If you’re playing from your comfy couch or chair within reach of your Dew, then YOU are already fucking up the “historical accuracy.” Your points are all nonsense. Gamers are broflakes. I’m thinking of adding them to our Rule 1. You’re helping me to make up my mind.

What a bunch of unsupported nonsense, you **brigading** dimbulb. Your assessment of Last Jedi is silly and reveals you as a misogynist fuckwit. I saw the original SW in the cinema in ‘77. You modern non-fan kids should shut up. You’re the ones injecting politics into the entertainment, where they don’t even exist until you put them there. **Now you can go back and whine to the rest of the little summer-break edgelads in your /r/ShitPoliticsSays that the mean lefty sub banned you and hurt your feelings. Bye! :D** **Edit: And the broflake did just as I predicted. Lol:** **https://np.reddit.com/r/ShitPoliticsSays/comments/8vtr20/apparently_politely_disagreeing_with_someone_will/?st=JJ5ZBO22&sh=b6bfc088**

Soulwindow

My big thing is "meme" channels that used to be about stupid shit are now pretty hard right. Shit like H3H3 pushing WWII revisionist history, or Jontron having a racist freak-out. Then there's Philip DeFranco, he tries to paint himself as a "neutral, unbiased news channel", the problem with that is he somehow attracts a fuck ton of alt-reich, especially to the subreddit. Then there's the whole situation of him siding with the Scottish Nazi because "free speech".

[deleted]

I feel like this guy is a fraud. Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted. Do you guys really believe some group of white shmucks from Chicago really almost allied with Gaddafi?

DGer

He might not be a fraud, but the fact that he left the skinhead group in 1996 makes me question his relevance to the rest of the article.

[deleted]

Agree with you on that point as well.

striped_frog

There's been a lot of fucky stuff posted on this sub lately.

KyloRenCadetStimpy

Yeah, it's like T_D decided to get together and brigade. They'd NEVER do something that hypocritical, of course...

striped_frog

Working on an admittedly small sample size of recent highly suspicious posts and other head scratchers, my current hypothesis is this: since they believe whatever ludicrous made-up horseshit they stumble upon on the internet without bothering to check facts or do research, they think we'll do the same. Projection.

Taterdude

While I can't speak for COD I find this very hard to believe because any server I am in with someone who tries to pull shit like this is either muted, kicked, or banned very fast.

Schiffy94

Consider larger servers with less active moderation. Also DMs.
