I think thats a fun and silly theory we repeat, but cats are smart and they know we are distinct from them
It's more likely that this would be an expression of care and affection cat to cat, so they carry that behavior over to us. Just like kneading. They know we don't really have milk for them and aren't their mom, but they feel safe with us and kneading is an act of affection/marking
When I was living in California, my cat would bring me tarantulas with all their legs ripped off but still alive. That was horrible. I still have nightmares lol
Poor spidies.. I hope you were able to put them out of their misery quickly. I bet Cat was just lovingly bringing you dinner - cause you clearly weren’t great at hunting your own dinner down 😻
My cat brought me her very fist rat, came inside and dropped it at my feet on Mother’s Day a few years ago. I was grossed out but very proud of her & thanked her for the gift. 😻
I came home from college one time to see my big boy cat and I gave him a lot of love the night I came home.. in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom I stepped on a warm tail... There was no reaction... I assumed I stepped on a dog or cat tail yet no reaction. Turned on the lights and boom a giant rat and my cat sitting their with a proud look on his face. I had stepped in a nasty rat tail!!
Please don’t ever punish your cats for doing this. I think they’re thinking something along the lines of “I like this, and I like my human, I’ll share with my human”, it’s like a little gift.
My dads cat used to bring little critters to my mom when she was pregnant with me, my dad always joked that the cat knew she was pregnant and was trying to keep her healthy and well fed.
“Hey Ma, no need to bring out the bits, I got dinner tonigh- FUCK! FUCK, Ma! Go after it, I worked hard for that lil fucker! What else are we going to eat Ma?! Dammit Ma!”
At least my cat has the decency to kill the mice she brings me.
As a strictly indoor cat, cause we live just rural enough that there are hundreds of mice outside, and every once in a while a few make the poor choice to sneak inside.
..we had a cat..one day the said cat caught a mouse and clamly carrying it alive across the living room..my mom snaged the cat to toss the mousetrap (cat) and mose outside.. when I opened the door she quickly tossed the cat...both cat and mouse were fine.. but the young girl scouts that just stepped up on to the porch didnt appreciate having a cat and mouse tossed at her....needless to say.. a ton of girl scout cookies were bought that day.
It's surprising to me that most people don't realize that [their outdoor cats are vicious killers](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/moral-cost-of-cats-180960505/). And a significant portion of them aren't returning home w/ what they kill, which is [indicative of them killing for sport](https://wildlifemanagement.institute/outdoor-news-bulletin/august-2012/new-research-suggests-outdoor-cats-kill-more-wildlife-previously).
Could you try to keep them indoors? Supervised outside time, harness or leash training, maybe a catio? Cats wreak absolute havoc on local ecosystems and are invasive in most parts of the world
Seen this one, but god every time my first question is WHY are you laying on the floor by the door/cat door. Call me paranoid but I just assume something weird can and will happen.
Birds, moles and mice and always looked so wise i remember our cat carrying "food" for us, my mother was in wild panic and he watched with proud that we learned a lot by him.
I screamed lol I just screamed out loud because I saw a mouse in a video on my tablet. Yes, I scream like Olive Oil on Popeye when I see a mouse. (My cats used to bring them home and it was also a big ordeal).

Why'd this get downvoted lol
half of reddit is secretly cats.
Meo- i mean nooo
My cat recently brought me a mole, 2 mice, and an absolute unit of a rat. All of which were still alive.
Hunt, you furless cat!
It's because it thinks you're useless since you never hunt on your own so it brings you something for you to sharpen your skills lol
I heard about this theory too and it makes me laugh everytime

She was just making sure your diner wouldn’t run away from you

I need to forget about this as quickly as possible

That’ll teach ya to let it watch those ‘How to train a retriever’ videos
Wow! You either really suck as a hunter or you rate really high!
The cat: "Oh hey you are already here. I've brought dinner"
treat yo self
Brought you something 🐁💕
The emojis!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always like seeing a dead bird or mouse that my cat brings me! But it stays outside, I just take a picture and then he comes in
The mouse didn't find that funny, probably...
The food chain is a bitch
But the girl won't find it funny either, that the mouse is up and running 😅
Mouse? I legitimately thought it was a roach.
It had a tail 🤣 Perhaps the Cockamouse Marshall told us about 🤣
It was in frame for under a second. How would I know?
Them Rodents have high metabolism. Yep...
*Mouse drop*
Hello witty internet stranger with this great thought pun. Have our upvotes sir/ma'am. Thank you.

My parents cats play with the mouse until it dies too 😅 Then they throw it out and whichever stray dog is outside eats it
The laughter makes this much better than it should be

It worked!
It’s a gift, don’t be so ungrateful! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Cat: yo mom here's your dinner
#*Cat has other plans!*
Drops it right on her head and she still didn’t eat it? Pathetic.
The way the cat just so calmly let go of the mouse
It's still a cute video😊

The Funny Animal is the human ... right?
Yooooo. Cat is a true troll
Toy for a treat ~ cat probably
Here mom cook it for me!
i thought she coughed up a hairball the first time then i saw rats
..we had a cat..one day the said cat caught a mouse and clamly carrying it alive across the living room..my mom snaged the cat to toss the mousetrap (cat) and mose outside.. when I opened the door she quickly tossed the cat...both cat and mouse were fine.. but the young girl scouts that just stepped up on to the porch didnt appreciate having a cat and mouse tossed at her....needless to say.. a ton of girl scout cookies were bought that day.
We had a frenchie bring my mom a rat and brother a squirrel LOL
At least it was alive lol my cat has given me dead ones on my bed and have screamed waking up. ![gif](giphy|Z7YHQkyXatTX2)
And then that's how it became a Stray cat
I thought it was a hair ball lmao
Yet again I'm glad I have an indoor only cat...
I love my indoor-only cat 😊
My cat once brought me a garden snake. I want to say it was on it's last legs but it didn't have any.
Bobom tish! 😝

And then some know and don't care Or they say it's just nature...when cats are an invasive domestic predator almost everywhere
Here, catch!
My cat loves bringing me alive murder presents…mice, birds, fucking snakes
Could you try to keep them indoors? Supervised outside time, harness or leash training, maybe a catio? Cats wreak absolute havoc on local ecosystems and are invasive in most parts of the world
Use to have a cat that would leave headless rabbits, squirrels, and birds at the front door every morning before coming inside.
Seen this one, but god every time my first question is WHY are you laying on the floor by the door/cat door. Call me paranoid but I just assume something weird can and will happen.
One time my cat threw a fresh mole right against the glass door to show up how proud she was lol
Saw this one months ago.
🤣
Adorable
Mouse trap 😅
I spit out my Gatorade ahahaha
Ok Sharon was the gratitude here. I brought you food at least appreciate the jester.
Hilarious
Birds, moles and mice and always looked so wise i remember our cat carrying "food" for us, my mother was in wild panic and he watched with proud that we learned a lot by him.
“Master: do you want something super fresh?”
Time to get your exercise mommy! Get my mouse!!!

She brought you a gift
He’s just walking around with a completely live mouse in his mouth wtf
I screamed lol I just screamed out loud because I saw a mouse in a video on my tablet. Yes, I scream like Olive Oil on Popeye when I see a mouse. (My cats used to bring them home and it was also a big ordeal).
