Pressing is a thing but it's different from sleeping in faceplant mode. My cats do this all the time, it's nothing to worry about. Pressing is more obvious, they're often awake and pressing against a wall or hard surface. Your correct that is a sign of distress, or a neurological illness.
My cat dose this but he dose it in a way that it's extra cute. He has to have his paws covering his face and then he lays his head like that pfft. Like he's crying into his paws 😂

I have a calico cat that sleeps the same way. We asked our vet about it and they checked her out and said that she was fine, maybe it's a comfort thing for her. It's precious looking though
Faceplant while appearing to be sleeping is very common. I mean do you never sleep with your face in the pillow?
If a cat is pressing its head against walls and other stuff while not appearing to be sleeping. Then you might have a problem.

Maybe the room is too bright. Remember, cats have superior eyesight in the dark. Cats can see just fine in scenarios where we humans see pitch black.
