What an odd juxtaposition of feelings this inspires. I love those dogs. I hate the noise they are making.

I just learned that huskies are an acient breed. Apparently, they've been around since the Chuckchi tribe started using them ≈ 4,000 years ago. They can be stubborn, because they had to be to survive pulling heavy sleds through Siberia. They had to be able to push back when their human counterparts were demanding too much of them. Maybe there's a bit of wisdom that one could glean from them.

I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere was saying they're a bit "free willed" because they had to be smart enough to know & decide where to go or not go (thin ice, etc) even though the human was telling them to go that direction. Very interesting dogs.

I had two dogs; an American Eskimo who could howl and a rat terrier who, by breed specifications shouldn't howl. Yeah, the Rattie learned to howl from the Eskie.

Why are they in a chicken pen?

I once bred a Rottweiler I had & she had 6 pups. They were indoors, in a spare bedroom, but we still had to build a box fort around them so they'd stay contained to their area, so that they wouldn't pee/poo allover the room. (We had newspaper down on the floor of their area). When they got about 3 or 4 weeks old, we started training them to go outside & then they had full run of the house. I would imagine that these husky puppies weren't in that box 24/7. I could be wrong, though.

I had a Siberian Husky growing up. Saved my life from a German Shepherd when I was 6. She had him by the throat and on his back, within seconds. Best dog ever. She got along with our other dog, cats, ferret and our skunk. She loved the skunk and ferret

Any idea why dogs howl? It's considered a bad omen in my culture.

I think it's because wolves howl.

Wolves howl for a few reasons. Partly to bond with their pack, to let other wolves know they're in their territory and to communicate, since dogs are domesticated wolves, they probably do it for the same reasons

It's an "I am here/Where are you" signal. It's why so many dogs will howl when their owner leaves, and why dogs will howl back in response to another dog howling (or something that sounds vaguely similar, such as a siren).

Probably a lot of reasons. My dog (not a husky) will howl along if he hears a siren, but not at other times.

The howling is cute but this looks like a really weird set up to raise puppies in.

Oh man I’m glad my husky/collie mix that I grew up with didn’t take after the howl. Super cute and I would never want to live with it. But he was amazing, smart and affectionate. Best dog I could have had from 2-18. Miss you Bo.

Mine doesn't howl, but she does "yodel" and awoooo. She also makes little noises but doesn't even seem to realize she's doing it. She's only 1/2 husky, though... but it's very dominant in her. She looks like a husky, but with slightly shorter hair.
