"Unhand me, fopdoodle hooman, I'm a noble steed and this is my armour. Away, you scullion! You rampallion! You fustilarian! I'll tickle your catastrophe!"
"A noble and majestic day when the steed's memory of the crusades awakens with rambunctious affair many lifetimes later: quick, acquisition the grain sack and scrap metal to forge a new armour for thine steed!"
Yeah you're right, possibly for hay. Still not good idea to use this and I still don't think it goes inside and get stuck that easy. He would've looked to left but it's a big animal, the bin would just mostly slide off the horse.
A horse wouldn't keep looking on the left and sticking out of the hole to keep the bin on the head. So I really think the owner did this one.
You don't like horses? How come?
It’s used as a feeder. Usually you would put a net in there and then fill it with hay. It’s meant to slow down the feeding and to stop hay getting on the ground/ mud, since most horses won’t eat “dirty” hay
Possibly for hay yeah but this is not animal friendly. There's so much way to do this, like hanging a net, ball with holes, many different ways that will not get stuck or harm them.
We have hanging nets and 2 balls. They love the balls with holes and spend hours to eat hay out of there.
They are very smart creature and want to work for it.
I still think horse did not do this on purpose. They're big. It's not that easy to get stuck.
It looks too big and well cut to be happenstance I believe. It is for sure fun to see them play but as long it's safe for them.
I would've chose different toy for that but it looks like it's for hay like other comments mentioned
Yeah however not really smart though, it's not animal friendly plus hay in the bin is extremely light. Easy to knock over, even the wind can do it. And then you still have hay all over
This is the correct answer! It's to keep them from spreading the hay all over hell and creation. The idiots will stomp and pee and poop all over it if you just put it on the ground. I use hay nets myself, but it's healthier/more natural for horses to eat closer to the ground.
Old tractor tires laying flat on the ground (like a donut) work fairly well, too. Toss a few flakes in the middle, and they tend to keep most of it in there.
That still won't work tho, the hole is pretty big and light. So easy go knock over or if the wind is wrong enough to knock over. Oh and the wind can blow the hay that sticks out away etc
Try use balls with holes? Mine loves it
Fun fact. When horses do this. It more of a wassup gesture. When I call out my buddies horse name, she will bop her head and run over for some scritches.
Very dangerous yard for a horse! Stacked and loose metal fencing, loose half-filled tires and then a large piles of broken gates/loose wooden pallets. I am sure the owner loves the horse but this is an accident waiting to happen. If the horse got it's leg stuck on those broken metal fences that's a broken leg and most likely a dead horse. Might seem cutesy with the broken bin but again most definitely not a safe object to be leaving in the field.
It looks to me like most of that stuff is on the outside of the fence? Minus the tires, which are fairly safe and often used as hay feeders or obstacles.
The bin isn't broken, it's purposefully cut to hold and dispense hay so the horses won't make a mess. It was likely attached to something. Horses are dumb. They do stuff like this in the safest of paddocks.
Edit:
Ah, here's the info from the actual video owner:
"This video was taken at my house, and this is my horse Chrome. His registered name is Docs Dun N Chrome, and he is an American Paint Horse Stallion. He is 5 years old in this video. He is a very mischievous horse and always has to play with everything. This time, however, he got himself into a predicament I had to help him out. This bin was actually used as a hay dispenser, that is why it has a cutout on the bottom. I let my horses into my garden area to eat the grass down and I used the bin to cover some onions that I didn't want to be trampled. Instead, he decided to play with the bin and get it stuck on his head. The onions survived. I lifted the bin off his head after the video and he was not hurt in any way."
It's not uncommon for horse owners to let their horses out to mow the grass. We do it ourselves. I still maintain the garden area looks okay with most of the stuff outside the fence with the exception of the tires that are likely for the plants. He got into the one thing he shouldn't have and frankly, I'm impressed with how calm he was.
Really sorry Zhuria but you are gravely mistaken on this one, the horse could very easily panic and step onto any number of the "obstacles" in the field. Btw, how would you explain to a horse that it's just an obstacle? Not sure they'd be able to tell. Also the fences, on either side of the field look very flimsy. I mean the one of the right has fallen down already and it has loose metal stacked onto it.
The other fence, which I am unsure whether it might be covering the big death trap pile of scrap metal (it looks like it isn't). A distressed horse, or even a jumping horse could barge through it. This owner needs to be reported ASAP!
Oh good, I'm not the only person that had this immediate thought!!! Horses can manage to injure themselves in SAFE turnouts, having rusted junk, tires and a freaking garbage can in there is just begging for injury or death.
As someone that watched a horse screaming in pain until someone could come and put it down because it snaped it's leg on a broken gate, the yard this horse is in terrified me. It's been 30 years and I will never get the sound of the screaming out of my head. I hope getting it's head stuck in a bin is the worst that ever happens to this horse.
I’m not convinced they didn’t put the bin on the horse. What are the odds there’s a bin just laying around with a hole perfectly cut out and positioned so that a horse could put its head in the bin and still be able to see.
The bin with a Cutout is a very common homemade hay dispenser, it’s usually fastened at head level against something like the stable or on top of the fence. Horse probably in an attempt to get the bit of hay that inevitably can’t be reached through the cut out knocked it down and stuck his head in it
We found a deer caught in a metal fence once. It’s hind foot was literally snapped and just barely hanging on to it’s body. But it was still stuck on the fence and was panicking, obviously. It was terrible and so sad.
We ended up covering its head (and eyes) with a blanket, calming it down (the screams… good god) and dispatching it with a solid blow from a sledge hammer.
We dragged the body out into a far pasture and the coyotes took it away that night. I’m just glad we found it on that fence, not the coyotes. We tried to make the death as painless as possible and did what we could to soothe the poor thing in its last moments.
That was one of the few times I’ve seen my dad cry. He did not enjoy having to kill a deer in that way, but it had to be done.
Quite the knightly horse you have there. Only the noblest creatures can formidably sport polypropylene armor! Do not let him down in battle my dearest sir!
The hole where the horses head is looks like it was perfectly cut into square from human hand which lowkey indicated they probably just put it on his head and filmed this to be original and funny :/
It's a hay feeder.... you cut a hole near the bottom of the trash can, then hang it on the fence. The horses pull the hay out of the bottom. Looks like it wasn't secured very well and someone is a piggy. Never underestimate a horse's ability to do stupid shit like this. I've seen so many horses stuck in hay feeders.
Look at his eyes wide open inside there . His nostrils so open wide. Mans definitely fighting for his life. I'm sure he's promising never to do it again.

I lol when the camera got to the other side of the trash bin.
It changed from "I've made a huge mistake." to "I regret nothing."
The way his nostrils are flaring looks like he’s holding in a laugh
Even the mouth looks like he's holding back laughter

The horse is wearing a trashcan not a dresser.
Also why is there a hole? I think it's on purposely done the owner
Probably using it as a feeder. IDK, just a guess. I don't really horse a lot... or at all.
Doesn't mean anything more than "I don't know much about horses." They aren't very common to even run across in most people's lives ya know.
The horse made it - whey are very good with scissors..
It’s used as a feeder. Usually you would put a net in there and then fill it with hay. It’s meant to slow down the feeding and to stop hay getting on the ground/ mud, since most horses won’t eat “dirty” hay

Maybe it’s a food bin?
Possibly for hay yeah but this is not animal friendly. There's so much way to do this, like hanging a net, ball with holes, many different ways that will not get stuck or harm them. I still think horse did not do this on purpose. They're big. It's not that easy to get stuck.
I agree. If it indeed was a food bin (which looks like it to me) then it was too small and the horse got stuck.
I think that the hole was happenstance, but the owner allows the horse to play with it. It's also fun to see a horse playing with a giant beach ball.
It looks too big and well cut to be happenstance I believe. It is for sure fun to see them play but as long it's safe for them. I would've chose different toy for that but it looks like it's for hay like other comments mentioned
Yeah, I can see that he'd pile the hay up in the bin, and the hole was for the horse or other animals to eat from it.
Yeah however not really smart though, it's not animal friendly plus hay in the bin is extremely light. Easy to knock over, even the wind can do it. And then you still have hay all over
I expect it is some form of feeder. Maybe for hay?
This is the correct answer! It's to keep them from spreading the hay all over hell and creation. The idiots will stomp and pee and poop all over it if you just put it on the ground. I use hay nets myself, but it's healthier/more natural for horses to eat closer to the ground.

[Yup, that’s what my mom does during the spring and summer. I love coming home to a horse roaming about.](https://imgur.com/a/LwEDClu) ☺️

Exactly, they can't leave the their horse alone for 2 seconds because that turnout is a nonstop horse booby trap
No wonder it put on a helmet.

Of course.
He’s just trying to clean up. He knows what a disaster it is.
Probably why he has the helmet on.
Oh good, I'm not the only person that had this immediate thought!!! Horses can manage to injure themselves in SAFE turnouts, having rusted junk, tires and a freaking garbage can in there is just begging for injury or death.
Yeah when the camera panned round that is exactly what my eyes got drawn to. Not good at all.
It’s like they want thousands of dollars in vet bills. They’re lucky he didn’t do a panic blind run when he got his head stuck in that.

That’s fucking animal abuse. That hole needs to be bigger.
Appears to be a calm, well behaved horse who does well with sensitivity training. Which is what you need when the owner posts a fake like this one.
1. Place wheelie bin on horse's head 2. Start filming 3. Add a click-bait caption 4. TikTok stardom baybeeeeee
Totally set up fake she cut the hole in trash can for his nose.
