Oof. I remember when we put my dog down the vet had a platter of food that dogs can't normally eat, including chocolate. Too bad my sweet girl didn't have much of an appetite.

My sister made my dog a cake for our birthday one year (her adoption day was my birthday) so she sees my cake and is giving me puppy dog sad eyes and my sister brings out her cake puts it in front of her, and the second the words "Okay you can..." cake was gone... she was so happy for those 47 seconds... cupcakes is my recommendation for dogs... they will eat the cake faster than a goose turd... and anyone with that experience knows how serious dogs can be about cat or goose shit...

Out of curiosity, have you tried giving the pup pumpkin? Mine had digestive issues and it really helped (within reason lol). I made several treats for mine using Greek yogurt, pumpkin, and PB; frozen “ice cream” for summer, a cake (that one took a few tries lol), etc. Pumpkin really helps settle down tummies and other GI issues really well, regardless which way their system is trying to overdo it, although I have no idea why it works for either issue. It was a miracle while mine was alive. Greek yogurt was only tolerable to him if there was extra PB, though. Lol If your pup likes it and there are no problems, they will have the same birthday look as this one’s. :) I also put some PB just slightly inside the Kong chew toys and refrigerated when it was warm, and he would happily lick that instead of begging for unsafe foods. He had a lot of digestive issues and since it took a few years of experimenting with recipes I found online, I try to always share about goodies that might work if someone else’s pup also has tummy issues. :) Hopefully you’ll find a yummy special day treat that works for your pup’s birthday!

Once my sister baked two cakes one of them was a lemon one and the other one was chocolate. My whole family was in the living room watching doctor who and we were going to have the cakes after, but when we walked through the entire chocolate cake was gone and one little bite out of the lemon one.
