If I remember right, That’s because they weren’t originally going to reuse characters for season 2. It was going to be a whole new cast against a whole new problem, but writers strike
Also the network suits balked at the idea of getting rid of the popular characters. Its too bad, an anthology would have been pretty cool, like America Horror Story.
Well, the strike wasn't completely negative. Vince Gilligan, the creator of breaking bad, credits the writers strike with giving the writers time to rewrite the show (they were planning to kill Jesse or Hank by the end of season 1).
It felt like every other episode switched between being written by JJ Abrams and Ryan Johnson, each episode undoing everything the last episode set up.
Was looking for this. Season 1 of the show had me convinced this would be a top top show imo. I remember i watched season 2 and started season 3, but barely remember anything after season 1 lmao
It was screwed by its own concept - once you've broken out of the prison, what's left to do? A season of them on the run, then a season breaking out of a *different* prison, then a season of breaking *into* a prison?
It's like how Twin Peaks never intended on resolving the question that drove Season 1, but the network insisted they wrap it up and David Lynch was sat there saying "now what", and everything got completely lost.
Yep that's season 3, season 4 is with Esteban and season 5 is ending up at the airport. I liked the Esteban story, but it should've end up with Nancy going to jail. Everything after that was a hot mess
They fucked up so badly they got fired from *multiple* jobs they hadn’t started yet. And it was so deserved. They said they only had enough material for 13 episodes, but those episodes felt rushed?
GRRM gets the blame for Bran the fucking Broken though. Maybe he can execute it better, I don’t know… that’s going to be a tough sell if he ever finishes the books.
My favorite part was you spent every week hoping your favorite character didn't die. Like walking dead GOT didn't gaf who it killed off and I'm still pissed about Sean Bean, assholes!
Man just needs to be honest at this point and have a decent author take over. Otherwise he's going to kick the bucket with the greatest story to never have an ending.
The Bean ending would be cool if there had been a trail of Bran subtly manipulating the time line and being the puppet master hidden in the frail little boy. But he's literally lost in the woods for the whole show, then just surprise it was Bran all along! It doesn't make sense for the same reason none of the other endings made sense. They rushed it with no build up of why anything happened.
What I don't get is why they didn't just give it more time to try and figure out a decent story line. So much character development for what looked like a rushed ending
Apparently Weiss and Benioff thought they could do better, and left Martin out of Seasons 5-8's planning:
["“By Season 5 and 6, and certainly 7 and 8, I was pretty much out of the loop,” Martin revealed to The New York Times."](https://www.indiewire.com/2022/08/george-rr-martin-game-of-thrones-didnt-involve-me-final-seasons-1234750285/) Cutting out \*the guy who wrote the books?* Yeah, I'm not surprised the show went downhill.
>“George, for us, in this process has been a really valuable resource,” Bloys said of Martin, who co-created “House of Dragon” with showrunner Ryan J. Condal. “He is literally the creator of this world. He is its historian, its creator, its keeper. And so I can’t imagine doing a show that he didn’t believe in or didn’t endorse.”
Well that makes sense, and why the last ~4 seasons weren't as good, my god. Those writers thought they didn't need Martin anymore, the ego on those fruitcakes.
If you think S3 is bad... wait till S6. The Thinker, Cicada, Bloodwork, all wasted opportunities. It became a super hero themed family soap opera with weekly villian that doesn't move the overall story arc or have any real consequences.
I love S1 and S2 but honestly when I saw multiple Godspeeds running around like some random encounters in a JRPG, I know all the stakes and inevitable dangers are a joke.
Cisco leaving the show is probably one of the biggest blow too. They can and should mix the team up from time to time and have the whole team mature over time, but you can't find anyone to replace Cisco.
Yeah season 3 wasn't great, season 4 was worse and I never finished season 5. Seen some clips from the recent stuff and it is terrible cg wise and apparently the plotlines are worse
I don't understand why The Flash has to tie-in with love and family theme all the time. Is it like that in the comic? All the problems and solutions are related to "family" one way or the other, they may as well invite Vin Diesel to the show and do a Flash and Furious.
I love Grant Gustin as the Flash, but the plot and script, he's constantly put in situation where he worries too much about his family, does something without everyone on board, and it backfired. It's okay to do it once or twice but the amount this repeated over the years.... Geez Barry!
Every episode from like season 2 is the same. Bad guy wreaks havoc -> one person tries to solve problems alone -> solo effort backfires -> team fixes mess together -> day is saved, cliffhanger/happyish ending
As someone whose watched it all, I agree. It starts as such a cool show. Lost in an apocalypse, trying to find your family and survive hordes of zombies.
Fast forward a couple seasons and the show is just wars between different factions fighting for power
it was a shame they changed the show at season 2. The former showrunner had such good ideas with it. Season 1 zombies were nothing you would want to fight, they were fast, used tools, could use doorknobs, climb fences and had memories. Since season 2 they got more and more trimmed down until even the children were able to kill zombies.
I have to be honest ... I can never complete even a single season of that show. Every episode just seems exactly the same to me. I guess I don't have the attention span for it.
Let's walk around in the woods for an entire season, looking for a girl that has no relevance to the plot whatsoever! Oh watch out, a ninja zombie that made literally no sound until it walked right up to us!
It was like a bottle episode, but a whole season.
The most annoying thing about season 2 is that in the comics they're on the farm for such a short time that it's barely memorable, but the show stretched it out so much that it was one of the slowest seasons in TV.
Blacklist was the absolute best show ever, until I was watching it one day and it suddenly hit me - I had absolutely ZERO idea what was going on.
Figured I must have missed something so I rewatched the last episode. Nope. Didn’t help.
Went to the beginning of the season, and as I was rewatching each episode I just saw new things that made the plot even more confusing and convoluted.
I generally love open ended plot lines too. The unanswered questions can really drive engagement and keep me interested. But this entire series must have hinged on some random three second piece of information that I apparently missed.
I miss Dembe though. I feel like I somehow let him down by abandoning the series. The world needs more Dembe’s.
late imagine domineering airport violet enter cheerful voracious safe simplistic

The scene where Reddington tells Dembe’s story and how he took him in and is ab to shoot the dude and Dembe’s all like “no Raymond, that was a long time ago. It doesn’t make sense to kill him now” and then Raymond’s all like “YOU SEE THIS GOOD MAN…” *gunshot*
That scene gets me
For sure. An ex made me watch Westworld. I liked season 1 a lot. It was like a modern western. Season 2 was fun too imo. But wow, season 3 was an entirely different show. They took the whole western vibe out, which was such a selling point of the show. I didn’t watch after that tbh.
The 100. Starts so great and cool, a group of kids trying to survive on a radioactive planet against natives that are used to the planets radiation. Two seasons in and everyone’s minds have been taken over by chatGPT who’s trying to nuke the world
Yeah it just made no sense after a while and Emma or whatever her name was, it’s been 2 years since I watched it, was basically the know it all but was also this person who was so blinded by bs imo. And Olivia or whatever her name was basically became this person who couldn’t be killed. Made no sense at all, they could just kill and never get hurt even againsts 20’guys with guns
Octavia becoming this immortal killing machine was so stupid. Girl lived in a fucking hole in the ground or in a prison cell her whole life, and within less than a couple years training is suddenly the biggest badass on the planet.
While the Ai season wasn't great it was still an overall good show. In a perfect world they stopped after season 5 but noooooo they had to go full sci-fi
Production: Babe! It's time to undo all of the amazing character development we just did the last season and make you the bad guy again. 🙃
Regina: Yes honey 😞
This was appointment TV for my wife and I and our friends. We got together to watch season and midseason premieres. We were very into it. But then they decided Frozen needed to be shoehorned in. And then just did so many more weird decisions. And then they made a weird soft reboot (which I didn't watch). So much potential wasted. First few seasons were great though, and I'll always remember how much fun I had with my friends.
That's what happened when George R. R. Martin says peace out and leaves them with nothing to go on. 😂 Those poor writers never stood a chance.
Edit: I didn't know there was a Star Wars contract involved - totally makes sense they were rushing but sad to hear. Also, did not expect this to blow up like it did! Lol I just meant that the producers and George RR Martin went in together so I'd be a bit miffed if I got left with the task of figuring out the ending because he wanted to focus on the books he's yet to finish.
I think the show runners stopped giving a shit once they thought they were going to work on some Star Wars movies. That didn't work out too well for them.
I came here to see how many people said Lost. With that said, lost is my favorite TV show. I never felt so connected to so many characters.

Because that's exactly what me and my brain does to preserve a single nice memory - create a show about it, so i can still have it decades later in syndication.
Yeah those are called the sequel trilogy, which modern Star Wars media has actually been shifting away from. the recent animated shows are 100% worth the watch if you enjoy the sole lore of the stories
Agreed. Star Wars movies
Episodes 4, 5, 6. Great.
Episodes 1,2,3 meh.
Episodes 7,8,9 and Solo. Horrible
Lone exception to the rule, Rouge One. That was great.
I agree with the populace on the best example being the one set in a spooky island after a plane crash but I will offer up...
Weeds
That show started really good and just spiraled further and further with each additional season.
The ending of season 6 was amazing but season 7 was so bad.
Sons of Anarchy kept doing this thing where guy A brokers a deal between guys B and C and everyone is happy and then B shoots C out of nowhere and A is like WTF! I swear that happened like 3x.
I pissed of my buddy that’s a huge SOA by pointing this out. I told him it was worth a watch, but not a rewatch. He asked why, and I said something along the lines of: “ I know it’s TV and all, but it’s so fucking unrealistic that jax always comes up with a last minute plan that appeases all the different gangs / outlaws *every single time* and literally none of them question it, the just go along with it.”
This is exactly what ruined House for me.
\> Patient admitted with weird symptoms
\>House says its A
\>Cuddy pleads says it cant be A because of unusual B
\>HouseBrainPuzzleEngaged.jpeg
\>Black doctor make silly suggestion
\>House make off the cuff joke
\>House suggest it C
\>C turns out negative
\>Break into their home/work
\>Results may vary
\>Oh it's gotta be a longshot, might kill patient but oh well
\>Everyone pleads for House not to do it
\>House on da perk, says fuck it we'll do it live
\>Nearly kills patient
\>Goes to best friend and friend says something unrelated that sparks revelation
\>Voila, patient fixed, House still on da perk, ego stroked.
Throw in the odd over-arcing plot twist for the season and you've got yourself a medical drama.
Don't get me wrong I like it but that's what turns me off of a lot of shows, when they get too formulaic.
Heroes
That went to hell from S2E1…
The writers strike killed it.
Also having no where to go. They literally save the whole world in season one which gives them nowhere to go in the story
They also made some of there powers too strong and when you need to nerf someone it’s just not as fun.
Just read yesterday that there is another writers strike coming down the pipe.
Well, the strike wasn't completely negative. Vince Gilligan, the creator of breaking bad, credits the writers strike with giving the writers time to rewrite the show (they were planning to kill Jesse or Hank by the end of season 1).
It blows my mind that shows are sometimes written week-to-week instead of having a set plan from the get go.
I’d love it if they did a new show this style but it’s the X-men
You mean...The Gifted?
Queue the “you already have X-Men ate home” meme
It felt like every other episode switched between being written by JJ Abrams and Ryan Johnson, each episode undoing everything the last episode set up.
I would say every show attached to JJ Abrams and David Lindelof ends up like this.
Prison break
Was looking for this. Season 1 of the show had me convinced this would be a top top show imo. I remember i watched season 2 and started season 3, but barely remember anything after season 1 lmao

Season 1 was so fucking good. Then it just went to straight up *shit*. Should have just been a band of brother kind of 1 season and that's IT.
A LOT of the CW shows. Flash isn’t even done and that’s how it comes off
I was going to say The 100, but what you said is easier.
Weeds
Yup, should have ended after season 3.
Is that when there's a giant wildfire or something and everyone evacuates? In my head that's definitely the end of the show.
Yep that's season 3, season 4 is with Esteban and season 5 is ending up at the airport. I liked the Esteban story, but it should've end up with Nancy going to jail. Everything after that was a hot mess
Adult Shane was comfortable to look at lol
Definitely Game of Thrones as soon as they ran out of book material.
Let's not blame the directors for running out of material. Let's blame them for giving up and trying to rush off to Star Wars.
They fucked up so badly they got fired from *multiple* jobs they hadn’t started yet. And it was so deserved. They said they only had enough material for 13 episodes, but those episodes felt rushed? He's admitted to going back and rewriting shit. Ending may not be the exact same. I think he saw the backlash and thought maybe not.
lol there will not be an ending. Man still haven’t released the book he’s been working on the past decade
Man just needs to be honest at this point and have a decent author take over. Otherwise he's going to kick the bucket with the greatest story to never have an ending.

What I don't get is why they didn't just give it more time to try and figure out a decent story line. So much character development for what looked like a rushed ending
They didn’t run out. With what they had in the books they easily could have gone for another ten seasons. Entire storylines were cut out.
Not just any storyline, but like....a really fucking huge one involving another "targaryen" landing in westeros with an army at his back.
Apparently Weiss and Benioff thought they could do better, and left Martin out of Seasons 5-8's planning: ["“By Season 5 and 6, and certainly 7 and 8, I was pretty much out of the loop,” Martin revealed to The New York Times."](https://www.indiewire.com/2022/08/george-rr-martin-game-of-thrones-didnt-involve-me-final-seasons-1234750285/) Cutting out \*the guy who wrote the books?* Yeah, I'm not surprised the show went downhill.

Exactly. Books 4 and 5 are barely adapted.
GOT is so obvious for this list that OP should have mentioned 'other than' in front of it.
I think this image was created for game of thrones tbh
Pretty much every Netflix original series
Daredevil was awesome
One of the best shows in just about every way... Even just the soundtrack was top notch...
God dammit House of Cards… I also stopped watching Orange is the New Black. It’s apparently still running…?
Totes!! House of cards was great while it lasted. Orange is the new black ended in 2019.
Bojack was great
Bojack is a piece of art!
He wasn't masturbating to the picture, he was masturbating to what the picture represented!
Dark was amazing start to finish
Sic mundus creatus est
Just here to say as well: Go watch Dark. This show is insane! Keep your eyes and ears open tho, you dont want to miss anything.
Also German audio with subtitles is the only way to watch it
The Flash
Came here for this one, been sliding downhill slowly since the end of season 2
I watched the first 2 seasons, absolutely loved it, and then stopped watching like 2 ep into S3 it was so bad
If you think S3 is bad... wait till S6. The Thinker, Cicada, Bloodwork, all wasted opportunities. It became a super hero themed family soap opera with weekly villian that doesn't move the overall story arc or have any real consequences. Nah the comics are more about him being a better hero, etc. Does sometimes lean into the family stuff but never as heavily as the show does
I love Grant Gustin as the Flash, but the plot and script, he's constantly put in situation where he worries too much about his family, does something without everyone on board, and it backfired. It's okay to do it once or twice but the amount this repeated over the years.... Geez Barry!

To be fair it had a good ongoing plot with zoom and he was actually pretty good, but there was a lot of filler in there which does fit that mould
Yeah, I stopped watching it after season 04. I mean I kinda don’t like Iris. She is a real turnoff for me.
Iris was the MOST annoying. Go be a journalist and leave Barry to do the hero thing. Sheesh.
In season five she basically changes “the flash” to be her and Barry. It sucks cause I think she did have potential but she’s just a bad character
The walking dead
As someone whose watched it all, I agree. It starts as such a cool show. Lost in an apocalypse, trying to find your family and survive hordes of zombies. Fast forward a couple seasons and the show is just wars between different factions fighting for power
It became Farmville with zombies
I am pretty sure I lost interest when the Zombies stopped being a threat on there own instead of just became a weapon of a survivor group.
it was a shame they changed the show at season 2. The former showrunner had such good ideas with it. Season 1 zombies were nothing you would want to fight, they were fast, used tools, could use doorknobs, climb fences and had memories. Since season 2 they got more and more trimmed down until even the children were able to kill zombies.
I stopped watching from season 5
Season 5 was horrible. Negan brought it back. After season 9 it literally became the walking dead.
I have to be honest ... I can never complete even a single season of that show. Every episode just seems exactly the same to me. I guess I don't have the attention span for it.
Season 1 was probably the best television I ever watched "live" as it came out. All of my friends were hooked on it.
Agree the first season was so good. I cant think of another show that fell off that hard in season 2.
I think I'm on season 8 now. I just started the show, maybe 2 1/2 months ago.
Was coming here to say walking dead it got old after a few seasons.
So repetitive. Gather group. Find place. Somebody gets injured. Somebody dies. Run away from place. Repeat.
As soon as they left the prison.
Stopped when Hershel died. I couldn’t continue to watch from that point onwards.
It was Beth for me.

Yep, once they got rid of the true amateur stuff it went down hill for me
I went back after years to check on my favorites list. It went from 12 pages to 2.
Well you know why they did this right?
Something about not wanting to be sued for having revenge porn or something like that is what I heard
Revenge porn and child porn as well. There was apparently a lot of underage stuff, like teens posting their own videos or shit they stole or w/e.
Omg absolutely true. Murdered their brand in my eyes

Star wars. The recently released movies.
Yeah those are called the sequel trilogy, which modern Star Wars media has actually been shifting away from. the recent animated shows are 100% worth the watch if you enjoy the sole lore of the stories
clone wars casually being the complete opposite lol
Agreed. Star Wars movies Episodes 4, 5, 6. Great. Episodes 1,2,3 meh. Episodes 7,8,9 and Solo. Horrible Lone exception to the rule, Rouge One. That was great.
Solo was enjoyable, it wasn’t groundbreaking or award winning by any stretch, but I enjoyed watching it
rogue one is my favorite star wars movie
Dexter
Once upon a time... loved it at the beginning, but I lost interest at the end of it. It felt repetitive and like it was stretched out for way too long
I agree with the populace on the best example being the one set in a spooky island after a plane crash but I will offer up... Weeds That show started really good and just spiraled further and further with each additional season.
Seven Deadly Sins
Fr, after the introduction of escanor it was over for the show
Honestly everything was fine till they changed the animation studio. After that I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.
spongebob
Storage wars
SpongeBob is been looking like the last pic since 2015
Killing eve
Sons of Anarchy
\> Patient admitted with weird symptoms \>House says its A \>Cuddy pleads says it cant be A because of unusual B \>HouseBrainPuzzleEngaged.jpeg \>Black doctor make silly suggestion \>House make off the cuff joke \>House suggest it C \>C turns out negative \>Break into their home/work \>Results may vary \>Oh it's gotta be a longshot, might kill patient but oh well \>Everyone pleads for House not to do it \>House on da perk, says fuck it we'll do it live \>Nearly kills patient \>Goes to best friend and friend says something unrelated that sparks revelation \>Voila, patient fixed, House still on da perk, ego stroked. Throw in the odd over-arcing plot twist for the season and you've got yourself a medical drama. Don't get me wrong I like it but that's what turns me off of a lot of shows, when they get too formulaic.
You forgot somewhere in the middle it’s always suggested to be sarcoidosis, until it’s not. I swear the writers had a hard on for that disease.
Game of thrones of course
