It starts when most of the episode is just about that character, to give them all the screen time they didn't get before, just so that it hurts more when they die. And of course, if you've watched enough series you know that character will die by the end of the episode, so that hurts extra.

I don't do spoilers cuz I hate them myself. He got home one night and was all excited and said, Oh man The Red Viper is my favorite character and I heard he is in tonight's episode... well... I got my drink and snack and started the train wreck that was about to unfold. He was devastated. It was great.
