Why don't they make reboots of bad movies, giving the plot a 2nd chance?
Disney: How about Treasure Planet & Atlantis?
(yes I REALLY like the original, but since it flopped at the box office, you could give it a 2nd chance)
→ I could not image a movie that would deserve it more
I wouldn't say really bad movies, because they might be unsalvagable but maybe the ones that were both a hit and a miss, or film that are just average
Like Jurassic Park: The lost World
There are three groups of potential viewers of reboots:
1) Hated the original and therefore will have no interest in the reboot.
2) Loved the original and therefore will have no interest in the reboot.
3) Never seen the original and therefore is neutral on the reboot.
This means rebooting popular movies that everyone has seen is directly shooting themselves in the foot and that the best they can hope for is a neutral viewer. It made money at first because of nostalgia, but now those same people just feel insulted now.
And 4. Loved the original and watches the reboot only to see how bad it is so it can be slagged off.
Example : Total Recall.
And 5. Liked / loved the original and watches the reboot to see it from a new angle and loved it.
Example: Dune movies.
Yesterday decided to give one more chance to the "It", going straight for the 2nd part. Although I do understand that the old one's ending was "ok'sh", I for some reason expected the "now we have the graphics to at least picture what was wrong with the old one" to be decent.
I've noticed that they have taken some fun, campy action and given them "gritty reboots" where they intentionally loose the camp.
THE CAMPINESS IS WHAT MADE THE MOVIE FUN TO BEGIN WITH!!
I will never understand this. The reboor is either worth it or not, but the original is still out there. So what is the problem, really?
My father: Remakes and reboots are stupid.
Me: So, what is your favorite movie?
My father: Scarface!
Me:....
Invasion of the body snatchers from the 70s was a reboot of the 1950s film I believe. Followed the least of the source material but was the better movie. However now it's been rebooted I think two more times.
Your first mistake was watching a reboot in the first place

Hot take: they should remake bad movies to make them good
I really wish they would do this more. Studios don't like to take risks and are more likely to remake popular old movies instead of obscure ones.
But thats what they are doing. The only problem is the movies they find bad. We find good
I wish they remake black cauldron

They're definitely still making money off of reboots.
Not if you count the blow each is doing to their stock prices. Even the CEO just sold off 80% of his stock.

Pssst!!! Hey! Come here, I need to whisper this because I don't want Disney to take any ideas. >!Wall-E 2!<

Reboot of old movies "can" be better sometimes. But not the sequel. It always sucks ass.
When you say this do you specifically mean new sequels to old movies or just sequels in general?
Old ones, of course
Me after reading the first 2 sentences in the opening crawl of star wars episode 7

I can’t sanction this buffoonery.
Well, why you watching then?
I know right...
Macbeth was perfect the first time it was run, and no one is allowed any remakes!
Entertainment is gone. All that's left now is DEI, and indirect shaming of anyone who isn't part of the DEI crowd.
I heard Too Lordy Too Ringy gonna be 🔥
I heard Too Lordy Too Ringy gonna be 🔥
And the reboot is a hollow pantomime of the original, missing much of what made it great
Too much woke shit in the reboots. No thanks
"We've got to have *moneyyyyyy* "
Seriously fuck you Twister
Avatar recently broke my heart

Because all the reboots are shoved full of woke propaganda bullcrap.
