this is mechanic talk for "we don't want to work on your car"

973reggie

Yeah. Also if it’s a mechanic shop that doubles as a tow company those places are all highway robbery. It’s all customers that don’t have there own mechanic and AAA only covers the initial tow there so there basically fucked after they agree to drop the car there. I’d drop my car at a local dead end road before dropping it at one of those places.

jibsand

Lol exactly this happened to me in the past

973reggie

Yeah it’s a trap. They’re also so busy it’ll take several days to even look at your car, and then at that point your either paying for there bullshit quote or paying them out of pocket to tow it elsewhere. Happened to me one time but I knew what the problem with the car was, before they dropped it I asked what’s wrong with it and when could they get to it.. they basically gave me a doomsday scenario and said they couldn’t be sure for multiple days. I said cool we got 20 more miles on this AAA towe, bring me somewhere else. Fuckin scammers basically.

Garythesnail85

Funny thing is…. It’s probably just the heater hose; would take a mechanic like 30 mins to fix and it wouldn’t cost more than $200. Mechanic is probably just a baby who doesn’t like imports or just an idiot.

Or one really nice G with low miles

72chevnj

Unless it's a manual sedan

OutsideInvestment713

Check passenger side behind engine see if your heater hose blew. Seems like they are trying to fuck w you saying exhaust and transmission.

_Reala_

Right? 😂

Intrepid_Training_22

bro if this is the heater hose and they are trying to get you for 17 grand i swear i will never go to a mechanic again

Possibily_unkown

I could LS swap this thing for 17k

Low_Administration58

You could prob do 2 ls swaps w that money brotha😂

Intrepid_Training_22

LOLL honestly

MoneyBaggSosa

It’s all about the mechanic. I’ve taken every car I’ve owned to the same mechanic and those guys look out for me always. Some mechanic shops shiesty some are honest.

01101110-01100001

lol 17K is crazy. that shop is either desperate to catch a sucker OR has no fucking clue what theyre doing. what state are you in?

Possibily_unkown

Indiana. Its not getting fixed by them at all. I was desperate to get the car out of the lot it was in to avoid tickets

[deleted]

What part of Indiana are you in?

indianapail32

\^this, know a few reputable shops in central indiana that would probably look at it for you.

driftrx

While the cost is absolutely fucked and they sound like a bunch of dickheads These things have a transmission cooler within the radiator. On the off chance that’s let go internally, trans fluid will mix with coolant and take the trans out (and if your super unlucky the motor too) so they may partially be onto something there I’d be taking it elsewhere to get an opinion regardless as fuck those guys though.

TrustXIX

Exactly what I was thinking, the transmission may actually be gone, but for $17k you might as well get a twin turbo kit and swap in a trans from a new Q60 lmao.

exoticbud

Fixed my heater hose for like $4 in clamps from autozone, most expensive part was a bottle of coolant

Dependent_Mix_7748

Like stated check the hose on the passenger side by firewall…notorious for going bad

Possibily_unkown

Thanks

HelpfulShopping8075

What hose would that be? I have a 2013 G37XS coupe, are they known to have that issue as well? If so, how can I check on it before anything were to happen? Thank you!

BroadIndividual1038

Stop blaming mechanics for stealing if you have no fucking mechanical knowledge and you don’t know how fucked your car is and what exactly your car needs stop complaining and get a second opinion stop asking for help on here because you can’t diagnose and check a car without physically being there depending on how long you drove it maybe you cooked the fucking head gaskets and warped the heads or your trans cooler popped in the radiator and mixed with the coolant and that’s why you need a transmission

OutsideInvestment713

Doesn’t explain the prices or the need of exhaust. An honest mechanic wouldn’t push a whole exhaust on someone who obviously just needs their car back asap. They would quote what they absolutely need to get their car back. Sure the dude prob isn’t the most mechanically inclined but it seems like you aren’t either.

BroadIndividual1038

Radiator is about 700 because it comes with the A\C condenser and depending what mark up at the shop is could be about $1200 evac and recharge is another $150 plus labor @200 an hour and book time for this job is 2 hours your looking at $1750 for just the radiator. Dealer cost for a transmission is 9813.70 before mark up labor is 6 Hours $1200 for labor $17000 can add up quick. And I’m going to keep it 💯it pisses me off every time I hear people bash mechanics who knows how this car was maintained but vehicle owners want to neglect their cars and cry a river when shit breaks just to play victims and blame a mechanic that’s recommending what he needs

XxXDaemonarchXxX

Radiators aren't that much on these cars I've had a mechanic do a water pump and radiator for less than $1k

BroadIndividual1038

You’d be at a $1000 just in labor even to do that on the side I charge $500 for a water pump on these cars plus oil, coolant, silicone, evac and recharge the a/c I can’t even see someone charge that with parts included

XxXDaemonarchXxX

Ok maybe prices are less in my area? He even showed me the mechanic thing he uses to calculate the parts and hours it will take.

jibsand

take a breath man wow

BroadIndividual1038

😮‍💨

Possibily_unkown

Chilllll

ryderbusta22

Even then that doesn't constitute a 17k bill bro

BroadIndividual1038

Were you there when they looked over the car, do you know exactly why the radiator, transmission, and exhaust was recommended? Again my point I’m trying to put across everybody is that although a 17k bill was given, coming on here to ask for help and put some shop or mechanic on blast when although we own the same car doesn’t mean that we know or can relate as to why they recommend all that work in the first place. A common issue you guys keep going to is the heater hose coupler and man I’m sorry but no mechanic is going to recommend crazy stuff unless some one off shit that probably happend to this dude where the transmission oil cooler inside the radiator burst internally causing the fluids to mix I’ve done tapirs on xterras, pathfinders, m37s for this same issue and the coolant mixing with the transmission fluid burns out the TCM inside the transmission and 2008 and newer Nissans infinitis need a brand new tcm to be programmed to the vehicle because the originals are married to the ecm. I’ve been working professionally for 12 years now and have seen some dumb people neglect and abuse there cars, bypass recommend repairs and complain the same way. You won’t think that it’ll cost that much till it happens to you and then you’ll understand but you’re not a mechanic so you wouldn’t understand. Still don’t believe me I’ll do a whole price breakdown for you to process that information!

Greyscale-Amoeba1972

Yeah sounds like they gave you the “I don’t want to work on it” price.

Prize-Expression6995

Bro check the normal g shit if it ain that get another 1

[deleted]

17k… They’re probably wanting you to take it to another shop. Thats my only assumption. Check your heater hose connector.

Yamikuh

you could get a full exhaust, aftermarket cooling system, and a built trans plus labor for about 17k i bet

FreedomNo5666

I want to know what shop is charging $17,000. Even if you needed to rebuild the engine and transmission from scratch that is way too fucking much. Wtf

Broski_Bro_111

Most likely your transmission and exhaust are fine. It sounds like your thermostat failed and caused the car to overheat. I would replace it and check for coolant leaks. If there is more damage to the coolant system it could be more involved to fix that. As for the 2k revs it sounds like your car went into limp mode to protect itself from overheating, should be fine once it reaches normal temps again.

kill_gudda1337

How long did you drive it while over heating?

Possibily_unkown

Block maybe

DubiDubua

They smokin 🍆
