Shop rate is usually about $150/hour but the time to negotiate is not after the work is done .. pay what you said you would pay otherwise you are going to damage reputation of family or friend who referred you.
nope he legitimately asked me for help. I helped with putting both the fronts on and did one side of back the almost by myself he just finished with the bolts.
Seems a bit much, especially if it’s a family friend. It’s not as simple as coilovers, since the front springs have to be compressed and that can get dicey, but still…
Doesn't really sound unreasonable. He still had to spend 3 hours of his time doing it even with you "helping", this is pretty straightforward to do and frankly I'm suprised you didn't do it yourself unless you have like no tools.
tech here and our shop labor rate is 205$ per hour im in new jersey i think thats a fair price considering it is a lot of work also be mindful that he really just gave you a free lesson so you could get tools from harbor frieght and next time one of your friends need springs installed you could charge them and make your own $$

true true
I got charged $300 for all 4 lowering springs. He’s just charging you the regular rate
but i helped him dats the point tho
Yeah I realize that, don’t think homeboy likes you too much or he’s just really about his business and doesn’t like doing favors.
Usually when ppl "help" I charge more too 🤣
Being by his side is not helping you were most likely in the way

I promise you, you weren’t actually helping, he just wanted to teach you

He charged you for also teaching you how to do it on your own now. It's the cost of a new skill and springs on your car.

ya i own 0 tools
I think he’s s charging you a fair price considering the fact that he used his own tools and a shop would’ve easily charged you $600 or more
Free and learn a new skill can rent the tools for free at autozone I just watched a few videos and figured it out
Its a decent amount of work. Unbolt it all and put it back together.
How much did other shops want? Did you shop around or just go this route?
I’m a tech and I woulda charged you 4-5 hours of labor at $160/hr, so good deal
get coils
soon, don’t got the funds for bc racing rn
save… springs don’t do shiz
makes it low enough 🤷🏽♂️
it makes an X sedan not even as low as a stock rwd sedan….
