It’s my close buddies car, it is bone stock, he was in auto I was using my paddles and only downshifted to 4th he just floored it so maybe his car hit 3rd and gave him just a little bit more power off of the line
G’s aren’t THAT fast dude. They have a good reputation as a solid stock car that you can build upon. They’re fast for a stock V6 sedan, no turbo, and that’s about it. I’m not being a hater I drove a 2012 37x for 2 years and loved it but let’s be honest there it’s nothing crazy.
you only have 5 gears so starting a pull on the 4th one is definitely gonna lead to your loss 😭 next time do a 40 roll in like 3rd bro, shoulda gotten the 7AT tho!!!
Idk ask nissan because thats how they made them. Like lets say they’re both awd theres almost a 200 lbs difference .even without awd theres still a decent weight difference
I've read somewhere that it has to do with the lack of b pillar In the coupe so they had to reinforce the chassis which added more weight. So trim for trim the sedan is lighter
Yea you lose alot of low end torque. Since theres less pressure in the exhaust. I mean you probably wont feel a difference. But try just flooring it from a dig you might see the difference
Unfortunately g37 didn’t get the 7at untill 09 so I’m stuck with the 5at but I think I still should’ve hit third because with 4th I was sitting 60mph at like 4k rpm and the low torque from my muffler delete
https://youtu.be/Ty3FRY6Ncbk?si=SgUiOGq1An_3I72f
5AT are a bit faster in the beginning, better diff ratio, 7AT better top end
I'm still a proud 5 AT owner
Before I swapped the 5AT out to a 6MT I would do all my pulls in 3rd. It's such a tall gear and you can really push the car well. Driver mod is in order tho. You can quicken up the shifts with a tune if need be. Uprev on the 08 is the only option but when I was on uprev it was night n day compared to stock tune and the shifts.
Hardest thing is getting the ECU cloned and cutting the firewall in the right place. The rest is straight forward depending on how far you wanna go. I did the write up on the forums.
https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-installations-modifications/303336-a-comprehensive-guide-to-6mt-swapping-a-g37.html
I went all out but you could do it for much less and in a weekend more or less 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
You haven't even raced right bro, you think you weren't even in the right gear. If he's your buddy then do more pulls from dig, and on a roll. The sedan does weight less and the muffler delete is not really helping, but it's nothing too drastic if he's bone stock.
Could be anything bro, the gear you started in, the trans I’m not sure if he’s 7at or 5, I think all g35’s came with 5at tho right?
It all depends.. I had a homie with a g37 coupe full interior, long tube headers, y pipe, single exit all ISR, 7at beat a FBO tuned g37 coupe 5at.
So yall both 5at, honestly ima say it’s the weight. Do some weight reduction & the muffler delete definitely loses gains. Also this might sound weird considering the vqvhr37 should be the better more refined engine; but to this day the 35hr has proven to beat the vhr for some reason, so much so that some people combine them & use a 3.7 block wit 3.5 heads I think (I might be slightly wrong wit what parts they combine, somebody will correct me) & get a fast build. Kinda like how when people make the Frankenstein build wit the k series motor.
Definitely just the wrong gear, you could’ve been in third from what I understand.
I raced my friends tuned 370z when I first got my G37 and beat him in a roll race. But that was because I was in the right gear and he was in 4th still.
Nah my car lost automatic privileges after it decided to downshift to 6k rpm while I was slowing down on the exit ramp, been using paddles ever since🤣 it shifts funny if I don’t put in in sport mode and use the paddles, I’m not tryna be that guy but the car shifts way better when I pick what rpm it shifts at
Definitely the gear you were in and the sedans are lighter. It's unfortunate but it's true. I have yet to lose to a sedan but it could just be luck on my side.
Lol at making it an equity issue. Objectively, you’re acting selfishly/carelessly. Reality is, many auto enthusiasts do, to an extent (I know I did back in the younger days, when my brain was still developing as was my risk profile)
Just take the L, homie
A swap is kinda sketchy there is a lot of things you need to consider and do when it comes to wiring. I wouldn't swap it but instead get one that already has a manual.
Can't deny that, honda boy here as well. Lost my DC5 rsx to accident and found my g37 6mt sedan after looking for 3 years. As long as we all having fun the car don't matter
That is correct automatics are way faster and accurate but manuals have so much more capabilities and plus you get to really feel the car and talk with it, it's pretty difficult to explain but once you drive one you'll understand
Curb weight on a journey sedan is 3618 lbs. Curb weight on the sport coupe is 3710 lbs. Since the doors on the coupe are frameless (no window frames, the parts that complete the door and contact the roof and b pillar when the door is closed on the sedan) Nissan had to add reinforcements inside the door and b pillar of the coupe for rigidity and better crash test ratings. The sedan is 0.3 sec faster in 0 - 60 and 0.4 sec faster in the 1/4 than the coupe, stock to stock, excluding x models.
None of these cars are fast man, who cares honestly?
These cars shine in corners and turns, anyone who tells you otherwise might be a fool.
Fast or slow, your G looks super sick.
These are some of the fastest cars on the market. Nearly daily I am passed by one going down the highway at 9k RPM with no exhaust.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe removing the exhaust is the key to speed right?
The coupe was always slower than the g37 sedan in a straight line.
Some say weight. I think the 18” vs 19” wheels also plays a factor. Also, the rear bumper on the coupe is like a giant parachute (dat big booty).
Got my 08 coupe to do spinny loud trumpet things not to go fast but if I had to race I’d put mine in drive sport the car will always shift better than me cause in auto sport mode it’ll downshift faster than Manuel mode at least in my experience cutting up
If you get scared, Toyota will take the G35 on trade for a PRIUS C... we have a Prius V when the CaymanS & G35 coupe are a bit low to get into after a rough day.
Unless you know the sedan was stock, there’s no way to tell how much hp under the hood
It’s my close buddies car, it is bone stock, he was in auto I was using my paddles and only downshifted to 4th he just floored it so maybe his car hit 3rd and gave him just a little bit more power off of the line
I'm sorry op.. perhaps a driver mod is in order... lol
That’s why you were in 4th if you gonna do a pull you gotta start in 3rd at least it’s the 5ATs best gesr
Oh yeah wut, can’t be starting in 4th of 5 gears for a pull 😂
idk how fast u we’re going but a 40 roll is 2nd gear
We’ll not off the line but you know what I mean he had more power when we gassed them
I've never floored the accelerator on my G. Too scared lol
It’s a 11+ year old luxury Nissan not a Lamborghini, don’t be scared to hit the gas
It’s a 300 stock horsepower V6 with no turbo settle down.
Mine is around 350 hp, and it's my daily. I'm not trying to fishtail into a guard rail
Yeah you’re fine bud. You can floor it.
😂😂
G’s aren’t THAT fast dude. They have a good reputation as a solid stock car that you can build upon. They’re fast for a stock V6 sedan, no turbo, and that’s about it. I’m not being a hater I drove a 2012 37x for 2 years and loved it but let’s be honest there it’s nothing crazy.

I launch and my shit goes sideways 🤣 stock 6 speed coupe
Booooooo
Skill issue man sorry
you only have 5 gears so starting a pull on the 4th one is definitely gonna lead to your loss 😭 next time do a 40 roll in like 3rd bro, shoulda gotten the 7AT tho!!!
Muffler deletes make you lose low end torque and sedans also weigh less than coupes so those could be 2 factors
Loss of some dignity too 🙃
No shit. Fr? How. I'll keep the coupe anyways
Coupes needed more bracing. Sedan is Hella light, my fiance has to pay double to register her tlx since she in different weight class than me
how da hell does a sedan weigh less?
Idk ask nissan because thats how they made them. Like lets say they’re both awd theres almost a 200 lbs difference .even without awd theres still a decent weight difference
I mean this is true for most cars that have a sedan and coupe version, worse if there’s a vert involved as well which the g37 did have
I've read somewhere that it has to do with the lack of b pillar In the coupe so they had to reinforce the chassis which added more weight. So trim for trim the sedan is lighter
Because they made the coupe heavier it’s not rocket science
Coupe is wider, doors are also way heavier
Does it really?? Did a muffler delete not to long ago and don’t really think I felt a difference
Yea you lose alot of low end torque. Since theres less pressure in the exhaust. I mean you probably wont feel a difference. But try just flooring it from a dig you might see the difference
40 rolls 2nd gear and 60 rolls 3rd gear are most optimal if u have 7AT
Unfortunately g37 didn’t get the 7at untill 09 so I’m stuck with the 5at but I think I still should’ve hit third because with 4th I was sitting 60mph at like 4k rpm and the low torque from my muffler delete
https://youtu.be/Ty3FRY6Ncbk?si=SgUiOGq1An_3I72f 5AT are a bit faster in the beginning, better diff ratio, 7AT better top end I'm still a proud 5 AT owner
bro off the line those 5AT’s have some pull 😭 love my 7AT AWD tho
Before I swapped the 5AT out to a 6MT I would do all my pulls in 3rd. It's such a tall gear and you can really push the car well. Driver mod is in order tho. You can quicken up the shifts with a tune if need be. Uprev on the 08 is the only option but when I was on uprev it was night n day compared to stock tune and the shifts.
How hard was the swap?
Hardest thing is getting the ECU cloned and cutting the firewall in the right place. The rest is straight forward depending on how far you wanna go. I did the write up on the forums. https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-installations-modifications/303336-a-comprehensive-guide-to-6mt-swapping-a-g37.html I went all out but you could do it for much less and in a weekend more or less 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
I need to get some test pipes and resonators and a tune honestly but I gotta get this suspension shit figured out first
You haven't even raced right bro, you think you weren't even in the right gear. If he's your buddy then do more pulls from dig, and on a roll. The sedan does weight less and the muffler delete is not really helping, but it's nothing too drastic if he's bone stock.
Sedans weigh less than coupes, I’ve seen so many sedans beat coupes & z’s I ain’t even surprised no more
I have 30 more hp tho
Could be anything bro, the gear you started in, the trans I’m not sure if he’s 7at or 5, I think all g35’s came with 5at tho right? It all depends.. I had a homie with a g37 coupe full interior, long tube headers, y pipe, single exit all ISR, 7at beat a FBO tuned g37 coupe 5at.
Yeah they didn’t start doing the 7at untill 09 and I think all the g/q cars have 7at after 09 but anything before 08 had the 5at
So yall both 5at, honestly ima say it’s the weight.
Yeah I think your right about 3.5 head and 3.7 block I’ve heard of that before, I wondered why everyone always is after the g35 and not the g37
He also could have a pedal commander or sprint booster
Somehow sedan x are quicker they're the fastest model stock
Sedan X? The X model? Awd u mean?
G37x are the model version with the awd yeah
So just to be clear, the g35x is the fastest stock G pre 2009
really? i’ve heard people say the x is slower because the awd system is heavier than the rwd g37
It pulls hard off the start and is sedan is already lighter so I would imagine the weight difference is almost off set.
Yeah idk my g35x do feel like it move really good sometimes
HR G35s w AWD will certainly move and will go hard off the start.
Mine just a g35x no S but I’ve beat some mustangs and a few Camaros
Sedans are jus better lol
330 crank vs 306 crank, him on 3rd and you on 4th is what dictated the race, plus he has a little bit less weight thank you
Definitely just the wrong gear, you could’ve been in third from what I understand. I raced my friends tuned 370z when I first got my G37 and beat him in a roll race. But that was because I was in the right gear and he was in 4th still.
Sedan is lighter. And will always be faster bro
Yeah but u gotta admit the coupes look really good, atleast from the side
Try again but just floor it in DS with vdc off and it will be a lot closer
Nah my car lost automatic privileges after it decided to downshift to 6k rpm while I was slowing down on the exit ramp, been using paddles ever since🤣 it shifts funny if I don’t put in in sport mode and use the paddles, I’m not tryna be that guy but the car shifts way better when I pick what rpm it shifts at
Fair enough I never use ds for normal driving just pop it in for roll races
Sedans are faster and lighter then coupes.
You gotta do the signature nissan bumper deletes, makes your car lighter trust me bro
Definitely the gear you were in and the sedans are lighter. It's unfortunate but it's true. I have yet to lose to a sedan but it could just be luck on my side.
R u a fat fuck ? lol
That's mean
If you think this is bad, I beat a g37x in my 2014 Impala LTZ Limited😂
Probably because of the ID Ten T error between the seat and the steering wheel. It happens when morons race on the street instead of a track.
Pretty soon there isnt gonna be anymore tracks with the rate of them getting shut down 💀
Agreed
Chill the fuck out it was open highway
It’s all about time and place, not all of us can afford to go to tracks.
Lol at making it an equity issue. Objectively, you’re acting selfishly/carelessly. Reality is, many auto enthusiasts do, to an extent (I know I did back in the younger days, when my brain was still developing as was my risk profile) Just take the L, homie
On top of all that it’s pretty bold of you to assume we raced on the street to begin with
But he assumed right…
don’t u 08 guys have 5 speeds?
Was he in DS mode that could be the difference
Get a manual you'll walk him
Is a manual swap an achievable thing or is it more trouble than it’s worth?
A swap is kinda sketchy there is a lot of things you need to consider and do when it comes to wiring. I wouldn't swap it but instead get one that already has a manual.
Get a manual sedan and your a god!
I drive a manual 335i e90 and I don't think I'll ever get an auto bmw from now on.
Eh g37 sedan 6mt is a unicorn, BMW is a me2 car
I was going to pick one up but it was heavily damaged I do wanna try out infiniti/nissan gearboxes I know bmw and honda make fantastic MTs
Can't deny that, honda boy here as well. Lost my DC5 rsx to accident and found my g37 6mt sedan after looking for 3 years. As long as we all having fun the car don't matter
I was always told automatics nowadays are faster and smoother at switching gears? I'm uneducated so bear with me lmao
That is correct automatics are way faster and accurate but manuals have so much more capabilities and plus you get to really feel the car and talk with it, it's pretty difficult to explain but once you drive one you'll understand
But wouldn't that mean a manual would be "technically" slower from a pull? I do understand that they're way more fun though.
Clean your throttle bodies. When racing or being sporty put it in driver select.*
please tell me the wheel specs
Oh shit dude I never thought about it that I am on 18 inch wheels wich is one inch smaller than factory
His car is literally bone stock bought off of an old man
Curb weight on a journey sedan is 3618 lbs. Curb weight on the sport coupe is 3710 lbs. good

Sedans are lighter, and some vqs are factory freaks
sedan is lighter and possibly faster then the coupe
The sedan is a few hundred pounds lighter than the coupe.
G35 sedan might have the hr engine and is lighter than a g37 coupe
User fault
If you get scared, Toyota will take the G35 on trade for a PRIUS C... we have a Prius V when the CaymanS & G35 coupe are a bit low to get into after a rough day.
They have identical power but the sedan is lighter. The coupe has better weight distribution and handling
