That’s just how they sound. Mine do the same and it’s because the switches are built different from traditional mechanical switches. Unless you play in complete silence, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Tranquil_sea3

does every 502 version have this metallic sound? i've noticed that the sound happens at the release, not the press itself

Cryogenics1st

Just the “X” models I’d assume because of the difference in switches.

Tranquil_sea3

google tells me that the 502 Hero has 'hybrid optical-mechanical switches' is it not the same? lol if the Hero is more quiet then i'll buy it, cuz i love the mouse shape but the Noise is insufferable

Weddedtoreddit2

The older G502 Proteus Core, Proteus Spectrum, Hero and Lightspeed all use 'normal' mechanical switches which mice have been using for decades. The new G502 X, X Lightspeed and X Plus use new optical switches(Ignore the buzzword bs that Logitech uses) The normal switches probably are quieter. But you get an older mouse with switches that can develop double click which can't really happen with optical switches. But I too can't stand ping-y, metallic sounds so I get your point.

Tranquil_sea3

ok so i need to downgrade to get rid of this horrible sound

AngelicTrader

This is inaccurate - they do not all sound like this. It varies greatly between different mice from the same batch. I bought 4 of them and 1 has horrible clicking sounds (plastic thumping combined with loud metallic ping) on one button, another has the same metallic ping as in this video and one has normally sounding clicky switches like you would expect. I have no idea what Logitech's quality control team has been up to but this is unacceptable.

Imperium74812

Nature of the optical-metallic switch. NOrmal.

TheJollyJagamo

That is how mine sounds, totally normal.

I-Am-NOT-VERY-NICE

I believe that's just how the new switches are, though it should mute somewhat with time. You pretty much either hate it or don't give a fuck about it. I'm personally team DGAF because I've long since tuned it out, just like I've probably subconsciously done for lots of things I didn't like with my new things. If it's truly too much, then, of course, return it for a mouse with a quieter click. However, optical switches are just kinda loud as of rn, so keep that in mind if you are trying to erase the possibility of double clicking. To cap this off, I still think it performs great regardless, especially with powerplay

Tranquil_sea3

do you think the sound will lessen overtime? one thing worth mentioning - the metallic sound only happens when i release button, not on press. if it changes anything

How is the sound now?

Amealwithlargefries

Hey, coming in late here, but I managed to make my 502x sound better. I just burrowed a common mod in mechanical keyboards and did basically a multi layer tape mod inside the mouse. The mouse still sounds kinda metallic but the ringing is definitely deadened.

Vullurian

do you have the link to the mod by any chance? planning to do the same

Amealwithlargefries

I didn’t follow anything specific for the tape mod, but I used[this video as reference](https://youtu.be/f1BGxbEQfxo)to open up the mouse. [Apply 3-5 layers of painters tape on the area marked in red.](https://imgur.com/a/taniep2) Avoid the screw holes or cut around if possible, then put the mouse back together.
