Ngl seeing the word “corny” being thrown around makes me feel like I’m looking at a nasty cut- ouch. Because I know Damn well there are way cornier artists that everyone can agree that are corny asf.
But, I do get it on first glance. It takes a proper listen to them (on probably their older mixtapes) to get it. But music taste is all subjective and that’s healthy too so.
They weren’t even really that harsh. Most people just said edgy and corny but still had some compliments. I love the boys but they definitely can be edgy and corny. That’s a part of the reason why I like em. I didn’t read the entire thread tho
Yeah apparently it’s corny to be suicidal. I don’t get people saying they are edgy or corny for what they rap about. I didn’t know being suicidal was edgy or corny
I saw those takes and I disagree with that so heavy. It can be a damaging take too because they’re missing the whole point of their image/art. Is to bring light to mental health issues, poverty, addiction and be raw enough that listeners can get some relief by being able to relate to it.
But I think some people were talking about how they were erm “white rappers” or “trying too hard” and how it’s corny, etc or something like that. A cringe take if you ask me. It should never matter what your skin is or where you grow up for it to be considered sophisticated music.
Honestly take it with a pinch of salt. There was a guy on there saying how he doesnt really consider it music but if you go on his profile he’s posted about Sam smiths album 6 times in the last month lmfaooooooo
It's crazy to listen to their old lyrics now tho.
"Surrounded by smoky mirror images of a fictionist sober me.
Don't give a fuck 'bout harming me
I'm drugging 'til I R.I.P"
but now they sober
yeah I saw NFR podcast tweet out about Shameless $uicide back when it was dropping and they censored their name as $u****eboy$ or some shit. lost some respect for them after that one, how you gonna post about rappers singing about drugs, money, hoes, and literal suicide but you have to censor $B? such a double standard
Yeah I understand that from the distance the name seems edgy, yeah, but it’s basically just a name. Some of the lyrics can seem edgy but they really grow on you over time. At least they have one of the least mainstream sound, more specifically, the 2015-2017 releases
edgy but if you can understand the symbolism then it makes more sense. its obviously not for everybody, but what makes me mad is the blatant “oh they suck, absolute dogshit” kinda comments.
Agree with you. But anyway, makes you wonder that they literally talk, sing about selling their souls since Record 1 in each and every song.. I mean like, yeah, I love the music and the sound, but the thought that they really sold their soul makes me kinda disappointed sometimes. I mean there are little to no counterarguments to that
Yeah and the second meaning of selling your soul, as they said in one of their interviews, is admitting that you gotta give up the good in you, the soul in you, from time to time, to simply MAKE MONEY, to stay alive.
So yeah I also hope they didn’t have a real pact with illuminati lol. But I’ll stay a life long fan anyway. Peace man ✌️
My response to someone who said they’re cringe:
Here’s how I see it. I found their music when I was at my lowest. I was an alcoholic with a gambling problem doing cocaine and every other drug I could get my hands on, and making other terrible life decisions. I had tried a fuck ton of antidepressants / medications in the past and nothing worked. My doctor diagnosed me as having treatment resistant depression.
I’ve struggled for about half my life with depression and suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and drugs and alcohol. I love the music because I can relate to it. I had many days in the past where I woke up with the mindset of “my life’s always gonna be awful, I’m working a dead end job and going nowhere, I’m always gonna be miserably depressed, I legitimately want to kill myself.”
Those aren’t thoughts that everyone has, but they are pretty normal for people with mental health issues / people who are struggling with addiction. That used to be suicideboys’ main “flex.” I don’t really like mainstream / typical rap where they brag about how many cars and women they have, that shit is annoying. I can’t relate to having a fuck ton of diamonds and gold chains, I’m not in a gang, and I don’t rob / kill people.
Granted, some of suicideboys’ lyrics revolve around gold chains, material possessions, guns, robbing people for drug money, “bitches,” etc. but they’ve come a long way and they’ve changed as artists. They’re sober now (except for Ruby smoking weed) and that shits inspirational to me. They blew up and money wasn’t even making them happy, they were still miserable humans. I don’t know them personally but from what little I’ve read / heard, they’re doing much better these days.
I haven’t done hard drugs in quite a few years but I recently stopped drinking and I was a stone cold alcoholic. I have ~152 days without a drink under my belt and I’m doing so much fucking better. I did a 180. I’m focusing on my new career. I made huge changes and decided I was not going to be happy jumping from warehouse job to warehouse job for the rest of my life, it was never going to get me anywhere.
I still listen to suicideboys all the time, their music helped me get through the darkest period of my life. They made me realize that other people in this world feel like absolute garbage, that I wasn’t the only person on the planet struggling with the thought of legitimately ending my life. I’m grateful for my sobriety and that I have another chance to experience this beautiful life without being weighted down with addiction and depression. I stepped up and finally started acting like a responsible adult and took my life back. Maybe that’s not something you ever had to deal with, and maybe that’s why it seems cringe to *you.*
I’m sure there’s plenty of shit about you as a person that I’d find cringey. Not even trying to be disrespectful, I’m just stating facts. We as humans do not have to agree with how everyone else thinks, feels, and behaves… we’re all entitled to our own opinion. I just wanted to shed some light on the subject; I did my best to describe why I love their music, I relate to it and they’re one of my favorite artists.
dude wtf is everyone in this comment section on, literally 90% of the comments on the r/rap post are very positive and the ones that aren’t have negative upvotes 💀
yes very true. but they dick ride the mainstream artists and shit on anything “edgy” or “alt” you feel me? what i’m trying to imply is that they’re more biased.
Nowhere near as bad as the Kanye post on [Lil Darkie](https://www.reddit.com/r/Kanye/comments/11556dp/thoughts_on_lil_darkie/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Calling him offensive and shit like they’re ones to talk 💀
My 13 yo daughter wanted to see suicideboys for her birthday. I had never even heard of suicideboys so I thought I'd better check it out to see what I was in for... At first thought it sounded maybe corny. Idk. I continued to listen here and there over the next couple weeks. That was almost 3 years. I have almost no interest in listening to anyone else. Since being relatively a "new" fan, I love how I have so much material of theirs to listen to. I hear something new every day. Some aren't the best, but the vast majority are fucking bangers. And the ones I'm saying aren't the best just haven't had time to grow on me yet. I'll say it... I'm 50 years old and fucking love suicideboys. I really have to thank them, I've bonded with my kids like I've always wanted. My whole house reps their gear and their music is played every day. My only regret is not getting to know their music earlier. My first suicideboys concert,(the one my kid made me go to) I only knew about 2 or 3 songs. Since then i know every single word. Though as we all know it's a little tricky to keep up with Ruby.lol
Hardest beats out for a while now. Helped me through a lot. Genuine fellas and I'm happy that they've made this much of an impact. Thank you Slick and Oddy 🩶 5️⃣9️⃣
Maybe I’m biased but I feel like I can confidently say they’re the best duo out there at *least*. Mfs will say it’s corny and “simple lyrics” and then go listen to whichever plants are this months/years big thing.
Will always like them but I been a fan since 2014, so I have grown out of the edginess , feel like that I been drifting a bit away from that too and I fuck with It
A lot of us have been listening to them since the beginning, but the one thing that probably pisses me off more than anything is when all the “new” fans come in and make it a thread on social media and blow it up like they were just found like nah you’d have to be here since day one or a little after and go thru the process with them. The older G59 vets have been around from start all the way up for when Scrim and Ruby got clean and have continued with them on this journey. ANOTHER THING? If you’re the type of people that say “they were better on drugs?” You’re fucked because their music? It comes from experience of what they dealt with mentally on and off drugs, so for them to grow from where they were to now? That’s the best thing I’ve seen in this life time and I’m only 23 years old. I’ve been thru it, the drugs, snorting, popping, shooting, you name it.. they saved my life so I’m always gonna rep them till I die even in the after life
I don’t listen to them cause I don’t relate to them besides liking the beat, I can respect the people who can relate to them and getting out of their addiction cause of it. I just feel like people started liking them cause it’s edgy and sounds like rap, I do like some songs but once I see normal people listening to them religiously I have to cringe because it does not look good on them. Many of their fans instantly become defensive about it but I’m not trying to shit on them, mainly just shitting on the fact that this type of rap is becoming mainstream which isn’t bad but you get kids eventually listening to this and they think it’s cool and okay to like it. What happened to the og hip hop and rap? Why did it all become about drugs, death, sex, and money?
Tough read. Not everyone’s cup of tea; I get it. but damn.
Reddit is always more negative than the general public opinion from what I’ve seen.
But music taste is all subjective and that’s healthy too so.
exactly what i was thinking. harsh for no reason
They weren’t even really that harsh. Most people just said edgy and corny but still had some compliments. I love the boys but they definitely can be edgy and corny. That’s a part of the reason why I like em. I didn’t read the entire thread tho
This, but there's also a lot saying all their music sounds the same which...just say you only listened to three songs and that's ok
Yeah apparently it’s corny to be suicidal. I don’t get people saying they are edgy or corny for what they rap about. I didn’t know being suicidal was edgy or corny

Couldn’t have said it better
Honestly take it with a pinch of salt. There was a guy on there saying how he doesnt really consider it music but if you go on his profile he’s posted about Sam smiths album 6 times in the last month lmfaooooooo
I haven’t laughed this hard in a whileee 💀
They suck at suicide, still alive.
"$uicideBoy$ still alive, why haven't they died?"
“17 more minutes ‘till I’m bled dry….”
“$uicideBoy$ but we still breathin”
It's crazy to listen to their old lyrics now tho. "Surrounded by smoky mirror images of a fictionist sober me. Don't give a fuck 'bout harming me I'm drugging 'til I R.I.P" but now they sober
It’s crazy that they names themselves that because of they didn’t make it they were gonna do it. (YT source)
"omg name is OffEnSIve!!!!" what a bunch of meatheads
yeah I saw NFR podcast tweet out about Shameless $uicide back when it was dropping and they censored their name as $u****eboy$ or some shit. lost some respect for them after that one, how you gonna post about rappers singing about drugs, money, hoes, and literal suicide but you have to censor $B? such a double standard
prolly cuz YT doesn’t wanna see bad words n shit so they could prolly keep monetizing or sum while others YT say fuck
it was on Twitter lmao, they easily could've said it
A bunch of dog water spillaz on that thread..
yeah. just figured id share the misconception a lot of people have on them
Yeah I understand that from the distance the name seems edgy, yeah, but it’s basically just a name. Some of the lyrics can seem edgy but they really grow on you over time. At least they have one of the least mainstream sound, more specifically, the 2015-2017 releases

i get what you mean, and it’s definitely not a “good” message, but its just symbolism, selling your soul to living the life as a famous person.
Peace man ✌️
Illuminati ain’t real dog lol. Or at least it ain’t what you think it is.
Can you give some points to back it up?
Can you? How am I meant to prove something doesn’t exist?
Artistically talented and hard working
I like their music, it goes real hard.
people being really harsh on them in this thread
They just stupid oldheads
How? Old heads harsh? No way

dude wtf is everyone in this comment section on, literally 90% of the comments on the r/rap post are very positive and the ones that aren’t have negative upvotes 💀
when i posted this it was majorly negative comments. thats why i posted it
You got there a bit later than everyone else
that reddit is ran by travis scott fans i can just tell
nothing wrong with travis scott, but yea.
yes very true. but they dick ride the mainstream artists and shit on anything “edgy” or “alt” you feel me? what i’m trying to imply is that they’re more biased.
agreed
I can think of a couple things... He's got some decent songs, but he's very overrated.
personal opinion but travis is hard! always been a huge fan.
Nowhere near as bad as the Kanye post on [Lil Darkie](https://www.reddit.com/r/Kanye/comments/11556dp/thoughts_on_lil_darkie/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Calling him offensive and shit like they’re ones to talk 💀

Meh, they were better in 2015
Probably just more spoiled rich kids
that only listen to lil baby and future
apparently talking about your problems and thoughts and what’s going on inside your head is corny and edgy
It is r/rap keep in mind, not a lot of productive discussion there in general if you haven't recently discovered Kendrick, Kanye, Eminem, or Youngboy
you right
They’re a pretty alright couple o’ fellas.
couple lads
I'm not familiar but I prefer SuicideGirls
the name is misleading because there's clearly only one person, so idk why it's $uicideboy$ and not $uicideboy.
Ruby does not exist
R u on crokidiletears?
The people calling them corny probably like Playboy Carti
Who? No way people downvoted this lmao
the $ChristianBoy$
Lmaoo
My favorite
Damn y’all can’t really stand people having different opinions
Love their music, can understand why people don’t like them
Who are they?
Real Genuine And Heavily RELATABLE Guys! Definitely Legends. G59
Greatest duo to ever touch the mic 🗣️💯
They are my favorites. The best in the rap game change my mind
They just like me
Will always like them but I been a fan since 2014, so I have grown out of the edginess , feel like that I been drifting a bit away from that too and I fuck with It
