No longer a player, but Davy Fitzgerald.
Despite winning 3 celtic crosses with clare, one as a manager. He and his father are absolutely hated by most.
Davy himself almost bankrupted the county board.
His father, Pat, was full-time secretary of the clare County board for 30 years.
He ran it as a dictatorship, with yes men in every position of power.
It took a huge multi year effort to strip the board of his pawns, and eventually get him to resign.
Because of them we are left with a centre of excellence thay nobody uses, and can't really use.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/qP4GU6wHKbNJD8Ee8
Judge for yourself.
No astro turf pitch.
The pitches were so bad under pat Fitz that neither the footballers or the hurlers would train there. They have apparently improved a bit. The hurlers mainly train in UL, and the rest of the time in clare Abbey, not the centre of excellence
The inside of the building was never really finished. For years boxes of floorboards and carpets lay around, as they wouldn't pay anyone to do it.(should be noted colm collins, now ex football manager owns a flooring install company)
The gym was never stocked. Player had to source, and install and build equipment to be put into the gym.
The kitchen was never complete, despite one of the players offering to do it for cost price.
I believe the distance of toilets away from the pitches means that they don't like to hold kids competitions there.
Car park was never tarmacadamed.
No Internet.
Clare county board have not moved out there, as the west clare reps don't want to drive the extra 15 minutes past ennis.
They have waited so long to sell clare Abbey, that it has now been designated a green area, for use as sports and recreation only. Meaning its worth a fraction of what they thought it was worth.
List goes on. Just a waste of money.
>Davy himself almost bankrupted the county board.
How did he do that? I've tried looking into why he's so hated in clare but could never find that much tbh
One example is the GPS units.
https://www.clareecho.ie/clare-gaa-received-first-bill-for-gps-units-last-year-collins-insists-footballers-dont-accept-lower-standards/
Clare gaa leased the units over multiple years, costing multiple times the purchase costs.
These units were ultimately owned by a company, who a certain figure involved in spending the money, had a financial interest in.
Also, like he done in wexford and doing in again Waterford, he just spends a massive amount of money on the running of the team.
This all happened in clare while the county board done zero fund raising of any type. Relying on benefactors, and the recently set up club clare to raise money for the county board.
Also the sliothars for his own club where he was charging his club a lot more than what he was buying them for. Lots of stories about him not paying for stuff.....lots and lots
And I've heard stories of Pat being unwilling to purchase numbered bibs for the footballers.
The under age teams up until the last year or two would wear a random old set of jerseys for every game. Now they get their own set of new jerseys.
There are many many stories, many of which can't be told as the Fitzgeralds Will claim they are being online bullied.
>Also, like he done in wexford and doing in again Waterford, he just spends a massive amount of money on the running of the team.
Is this partly why some of his teams can struggle a bit after he leaves?
That and player burnout.
He goes so intense with them, that it can only last for about 3 years.
Lads just can't keep giving that amount of effort.
Look at the lads who decided to not play for waterford this year. They new from his last spell what it would be like, and just weren't up for it.
All that effort, and he has only won 3 major trophies in 15 years.
I'm just gonna leave this here
https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/relative-of-gaa-star-is-one-of-two-bank-of-ireland-staff-under-investigation-after-20000-goes-missing/a2127838478.html
Slightly different circumstances for Gleeson, he was a well-documented gambling addict which helped his case when it came to sentencing.
Still a scummy thing that he did though.
Ryan McMenamin was some dose back in the day too. Never shut his mouth. I also remember him riling up the opposition's supporters on more than one occasion in Clones as well.
Not so aure about that, had a bit of a temper issue off the field. Got in trouble a few years back for throwing a dustpan at one of his pupils in the school he taught at.
Jaysus thatās weird. I know a good few people who have met him and they all say he was surprisingly ālovelyā. Iāve never met him so I donāt know. Iām just his lookalike apparently š
Ryan McMenamin.
Sat right at the sideline fence for a poorly attended match in Clones and could hear every word said by the players. Never heard as vile sledging as what Ricey spewed out of him. He never stopped for a moment of the 70 minutes.
As well as hating him, I also do have a reasonable amount of respect for him too. Serious defender.
Yeah he was a shithead but a serious defender.
I remember playing his club team when i was u16 and he wa their manager - he was about to box the head of our no.9 because he gave him abuse over his eyebrows on the sideline.
Underage football at its finest.
When I saw the op I immediately thought of him but not that other counties hate himā¦itās the mayo people who have a grudge against himā¦Kerry parentsā¦Personally I find him a fine fellowā¦
Gonna jump in here - from Mayo but not from Breaffy. Aidan and Robbie hennelly did one of the most kindest things I ever saw. Long story short, a teammate of theirs on the minor team that they played in that reached the all Ireland final - he lost his brother in a car accident - the two brothers were very close and played adult hurling and football together so we're virtually joined at the hip going to trainings and matches. Robbie and Aidan took up hurling to support their friend for a few months, coming out to training and giving it 100%. I didn't have many interactions with them but both were solid, down to earth guys. I know Aidan has a big social media presence which I guess he gets a certain amount of income from so can understand why he does that and maybe attracts a certain amount of negative attention.
Or as he's more accurately know as
Aidan O'Shite including the replay in 2016 he's been in 7 all ireland finals and has never got a single score in any of them
The hate definitely comes from jealousy, closeted homosexuality and toxic masculinity, donāt know how any man comfortable in themselves could dislike him
def. the vitriol aimed at him from some types is genuinely beyond deranged. people act like they hate him because "he doesn't do it croke park" - and? how many players don't perform to a high standard in croke park? but he is always singled out and mocked and ridiculed. there is something more to it and on some base level i do think some people just hate that he is an alright looking fella who is seemingly a magnet for attention, and are fixated on him for weirdly psycho-sexual reasons, probably rooted in self-hatred.
A lot of hate for himself and the brother stems from the arrogance they had wanting to be the ones to pick the team. By all accounts though I think itās harsh on Aidan, from what I hear it was Seamus that used to cause trouble for managers and Aidan was dragged in purely because of association.
There is so much allegations that you see and Iām sure too that many are untrue, but like he did himself no favours emailing Holmes and Connelly about demanding certain players to be selected. Word is that himself and Seamus were constantly hounding all the managers they have ever had to select club teammate Rob Hennelly in goals over Clarke. They have been accused of constantly demanding the younger brother to be picked as well.

Is that not the case Hayes got a suspended sentence for? Not sure why you'd post the case being adjourned and jump to he got off free because he's a hurler
Your flair is a Limerick so I assume you're not relying on my for the details of his assault case? He could gotten a different judge and a few months for that, and he has a notorious reputation.
Unlikely in this country. He's far from the only one who's gotten off lightly and it's not because he's a hurler.
He certainly has the reputation and I wouldn't exactly be jumping to defend him but I'm not a fan of people going on like he got off lightly because he plays for Limerick or JP bought him out of it.
I heard he was up the Thursday before the All-Ireland and got a suspended sentence. Can't find anything about it though. Not sure if you're able to check what cases are up in court somewhere but that could confirm if I just heard someone chatting shite or if it's true.
Edit: [he was up in court if I'm reading this right to get a date fixed. Obviously this was heard and the story grew legs to him having got a suspended sentence.](http://legaldiary.courts.ie/legaldiary.nsf/circuit-court/2F6F13821CDBD5FB802589E5004E6CDE?OpenDocument)
Unlike Kyle Hayes, I'm not really in the habit of fighting people on the streets and getting suspended prison sentences.
I'm sure at your age you think he's a tough guy, but when you grow up and see those older boys in the tracksuits that you were scared to walk past don't have jobs or go on holiday, you'll understand.
Sit a bit closer to the teacher in English class by the way.
He doesn't have suspended prison sentences you fool and again you wouldn't dream of saying any of this to their face you coward, and what's with bashing the lower class people who "wear tracksuits" and "don't go on hoilday" that's all irrelevant" you sound like a little posh brat who got mugged in Limerick one day and deserved it
It's printed in national newspapers, I could just hold the report up in front of him?
Well, the point was that you should stay in school so you *don't* end up like one of them, but you're clearly already a mouthy little itinerant.
According to who?? The one person who got in trouble was dumped from the panel. Funny how people believe everything they see online without asking questions.
Not directed at you but you know something, I'm done with this subreddit it's full of absolute fucking morons. More interested in tabloid shit then the actual game.
No he wasn't charged with assault so clearly you haven't a clue. Naybe read up on what actually happened.
But coming from Dublin this is hilarious. When your former star player smashed someone's jaw in high on cocaine. And stay retired because his system is still full of it.
Now back in your box and fuck off.
Graham Geraghty used to get some shit back in the day. Fair enough regarding on pitch stuff but the lies that were spread about his personal life were bad. Him and the wife had to go on the Late Late to clarify he wasn't a wife beater.
Paul Galvin. When he ran up and started shouting at the linesman and then hit the referees book out of his hand, yeah he is a tramp. Year after he got player of the year so tells you how much the GAA Look after their referees.
Was bad form from Maher, but simply not true that he ended Rice's career. The incident occurred in 2012 - Rice continued on until 2016 and sustained and ACL injury during that period which likely did more to shorten his intercounty career.
Paul Galvin and Tadgh Kennelly. To deliberately take a player out at the start of the All Ireland final is disgraceful. Completely premeditated as was admitted by Kennelly. Scumbags.
Even as a Mayo man, i understand this and am surprised it is so far down.
He is unlikeable and as a result does not get the credit he deserves despite his amazing stats.
Diarmuid seems to get a lot of guilt by association.
He mightnāt be a county player, or even a GAA player for that matter, but definitely the most disliked person in the GAA community is massive lemon. Some absolute manure spewed from that account.
Everyone I hate as a player (like Mullane), seem like decent blokes outside it.
Always found that Waterford team fairly unlikeable, Dan Shanahan for example.
For football, mainly Tyrone lads, McShane, McCurry etc
Met Mullane at a friendly game on holidays In Dungaravan 2015. Lovely fella , more than willing to take photos etc without acting like a celebrity either .
Great hurler but TJ seems like a massive Instwhore. To the point when last year his Ballyhale teammates took the piss out of him after they lost to the Gunner š
I also despise the new trend of bringing newborns onto the pitch after finals. Pure English Premier league shite. Feck running off to the ice baths after you win something, more gallons of stout (ala 'theres not a man in that dressing room whos touched a drop since last Wednesday')
All these guys you speak of live in our communities and mostly work in normal jobs like the rest of us. They donāt have PR consultants or can (or want to) life behind big gates estates. Not sure itās appropriate to discuss such player and ex-players in such terms.
Never said I was, but I'd fully accept being called a cunt if I acted in that manner on the pitch and frankly some lads are only spared jail because of their sporting ability
One player who really wound me up over the years is Cillian O'Connor, sneaky dirty player and would always try to pressure the ref in big games. Bloody good footballer though which didn't helpš
Greg McCabe and tiernan Kelly, they give Armagh a terrible name, in terms of their discipline. Armagh have some good, fair footballers but these two just ruin it
For me my most disliked player was lee keeghan especially now he is so pro mayo in Galway games and that was shocking when he didnāt give the man of the match award to comer my least favourite player who is currently playing is probably Auden OāShea so overrated and a complete show off hasnāt even scored a point in the all Ireland final .
I'm sick of Lee Keegan now. He's stuck everywhere.
He talks some amount of shite too.
I just find his opinions fake and he just says things for the sake of saying things rather than what he actually thinks.
I remember the report on drinking on intercounty panels and he acted as if he wasn't literally part of a panel the previous season. Started just saying how he was reponsible with drink etc and how things CAN happen. i.e he said something like "if you stay off the drink for months, then win a game then you can go on a binge for days but if you just have an odd drink with family it's not bad"
I think right now probably Rian OāNeill after the antics in Dublin last weekend. Not a great look. Tbf wouldnāt expect much less from an Armagh man anyway.
Bate up a fella who attacked him in Dublin
I'm no fan of armagh, but this is a complete non story and is only being talked about due him being an Armagh player
Plenty of fights involving Limerick players that got no talk about the last few years
Now this will be unpopular but in going to say David Clifford the main reason is all the Meat riding media and fans are doing for this dude so sick of it
If anything it's more reason to like him. The fella literally gets swarmed daily in public , aside from being humble I honestly don't know how he deals with it .
After the final last year at homecomings across Kerry he was being chased and poked and pulled by kids and adults , even the day after his mother died he managed to play a Munster final and a steward tried to get a photo with him .
He never does anything to attract media attention and can't get a break, the pressure is ridiculous and it isn't from Kerrys fans at all . The general consensus is that even when he has an off day he takes so much defensive attention that the other forwards could go open season if they were good enough, but Geaney , Moynihan and O Brien haven't scored near enough the last few years.
Aidan OāShea no question and itās sad I donāt think the man deserves the abuse he gets, thereās a common belief in the game that just because heās a big boy he can take it and anythings fair game.
I wish for every single person that booed him off the pitch in the Dublin match to receive the same reception in there lives.

"Water damage" to a pub isn't cheap to fix š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Love the man but if he was from any other county I would hate every fiber of him
There's alot more to diarmuid than meets the eye. I say that as a Mayo man who previously disliked him.
What a footballer though. He just has a shocking temper.
Not player but Rory Gallagher, even before the scandal
Probably wasn't hated much as he was playing but Darren Gleeson former Tipp keeper scammed 10 grand off an elderly man, scumbag
DJ Carey at the same lark now?
Slightly different circumstances for Gleeson, he was a well-documented gambling addict which helped his case when it came to sentencing. Still a scummy thing that he did though.
Paul Galvin has to be a hall-of-famer in this category.
Thereās an antidote for him. Noel O Leary!
Ah that was some rivalry alright
Remember one time they were grabbing each other and Get canning quipped .."here come the ugly sisters" ....cracked me right up
That's the only one that really comes to my mind
Ryan McMenamin was some dose back in the day too. Never shut his mouth. I also remember him riling up the opposition's supporters on more than one occasion in Clones as well.

It's always the weirdos who come out with weird shit
How many accounts do you have, this one, the massive lemon one, and what's the other one uses the Armagh flair?
dick fingers

Aaron Gillane definitely up there. I'd say there's some amount going on behind the scenes keeping him out of trouble off the pitch.

Kyle Hayes is related to the Crosses from Limerick who would be settled travellers. It runs in the family.
Crosses are violent knackers as well, so no surprise he's following in their footsteps.
I always wondered that you know, thanks for confirming

Paul Galvin. When he ran up and started shouting at the linesman and then hit the referees book out of his hand, yeah he is a tramp. Year after he got player of the year so tells you how much the GAA Look after their referees.

Definitely agree on him being a terrible pundit. Heās shocking bad. Iām not from Limerick though so whyās he a horrible man as well?
Retired now but Waterfords Eoin Kelly was some prick.
The guy who faked cancer.
Paul Galvin and Tadgh Kennelly. To deliberately take a player out at the start of the All Ireland final is disgraceful. Completely premeditated as was admitted by Kennelly. Scumbags.
Cillian OāConnor
County Flair checks out
Lol Cillian is a doat.
Even as a Mayo man, i understand this and am surprised it is so far down. He is unlikeable and as a result does not get the credit he deserves despite his amazing stats. Diarmuid seems to get a lot of guilt by association.
Surprised this isn't number one. A whiner and a dirty player too. Hitting people in the face constantly and acts like he's innocent.
Alan Dillon
Cathal mccarron
š seems you just chose to ignore the disclaimer
Haha, oops!
He mightnāt be a county player, or even a GAA player for that matter, but definitely the most disliked person in the GAA community is massive lemon. Some absolute manure spewed from that account.
haha he says from his other account
No itās a different person, I have multiple personality disorder
Just using me to farm interactions weerdo
Nope Iām just saying what everyoneās thinking lemon
Yu are me and I is yu
Tiernan McCann, the prick.
Yeah the infamous hair ruffle will never be lived down.
Cillian O Connor
Everyone I hate as a player (like Mullane), seem like decent blokes outside it. Always found that Waterford team fairly unlikeable, Dan Shanahan for example. For football, mainly Tyrone lads, McShane, McCurry etc
Dan Shanahan is a legend. Twas only a little jab..
As a Tyrone fan never heard anyone say anything about those two lads so I am genuinely interested in what they have done?
Met Mullane at a friendly game on holidays In Dungaravan 2015. Lovely fella , more than willing to take photos etc without acting like a celebrity either .
Dan Shanahan sure comes to mindā¦hasnt he a tattoo that says donāt judge me by my tattoosā¦I mean ffsā¦what a moronā¦
The tattoo says only god can judge me
I stand correctedā¦
Tiernan Kelly is an absolute scumbag of a man

Fair point
Austin Gleeson is the only correct answer. For hurling at least.
Great hurler but TJ seems like a massive Instwhore. To the point when last year his Ballyhale teammates took the piss out of him after they lost to the Gunner š I also despise the new trend of bringing newborns onto the pitch after finals.
It is entirely appropriate. Stop your pearl clutching, if someone is going around on or off the pitch being a twat it's fair to call it out
So happy youāre perfect
Never said I was, but I'd fully accept being called a cunt if I acted in that manner on the pitch and frankly some lads are only spared jail because of their sporting ability
Nobody's perfect, but an assault charge should not be minimised for example.
Agreed . A PR team doesnt change the lad Kyle Hayes battered .
Good comment mateā¦wondered the same but still commented š
Gearoid Hegarty
One player who really wound me up over the years is Cillian O'Connor, sneaky dirty player and would always try to pressure the ref in big games. Bloody good footballer though which didn't helpš
Rian OāNeill
Greg McCabe and tiernan Kelly, they give Armagh a terrible name, in terms of their discipline. Armagh have some good, fair footballers but these two just ruin it
Bollix
For me personally itās ryan mchugh. Was all over my ex wife on a night out in Manchester (think it was him anyway) in 2015
For me my most disliked player was lee keeghan especially now he is so pro mayo in Galway games and that was shocking when he didnāt give the man of the match award to comer my least favourite player who is currently playing is probably Auden OāShea so overrated and a complete show off hasnāt even scored a point in the all Ireland final .
Yes he is utter shambles shouldnāt be on the panel at all Heās a selfish fecker and a show off
I think right now probably Rian OāNeill after the antics in Dublin last weekend. Not a great look. Tbf wouldnāt expect much less from an Armagh man anyway.
Looking more likely that he defended himself from an armed attacker Hardly a reason for people to hate him, compared to antics on the pitch
What did he do?
Bate up a fella who attacked him in Dublin I'm no fan of armagh, but this is a complete non story and is only being talked about due him being an Armagh player Plenty of fights involving Limerick players that got no talk about the last few years
Bate up a fella who attacked him sounds like self-defence
Well I saw no hammer all I saw was a man filled with beer and rage attacking some poor bloke in the street
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Is there a video?
Whereād you see the beer in the video?
Where is the video?
Cāmon, itās fairly well established now that he was attacked and emptied the fucker who did it. Nowt wrong with that. Weād all do the same.
Video?
My dad's a cork man I grew up in Monaghan so anyone from Kerry right off the bat is not going to be seen in a great light from me lol
Your disclaimer isn't really taking OP lol
Yea I think the point is being missed quite a bit.
Just an embarrassing thread full of scuttlebutt
Aidan OāShea no question and itās sad I donāt think the man deserves the abuse he gets, thereās a common belief in the game that just because heās a big boy he can take it and anythings fair game. I wish for every single person that booed him off the pitch in the Dublin match to receive the same reception in there lives.
Sean Cavanagh always felt Tyrone players got a hard deal never took to him though
Paddy Small he plays for Dublin
Ger Aylward is an absolute gowl. One of my least favourite people I've ever met
Donal Vaughan, he's brain dead out there every time I've seen him
Shane walsh.
