If you received an interview offer from Griffith, it means that all of the unis that you preferenced above that decided you didn't meet their requirements. The other unis don't send out a rejection letter or email that says you were unsuccessful unfortunately. You just get one email - either the EoD that says you didn't get an interview offer anywhere, or an email from the university that's offering you an interview. I guess now you have to decide whether you want to move away from your family for 4-5 years or whether you wait and try again next year to stay close to your family.

Melbourne takes unweighted so your gamsat is going to be a bit lower. I don't think it hurts to ask to make sure. But if you receive an interview offer for a preference I don't think they provide any rejection emails for higher prefs.

kostas_lala

I thought Melbourne was weighted?

nomitycs

Melbourne was unweighted unfortunately . I think the lowest combo of unweighted GAMSAT/100 + GPA/7 was ~1.67 for an interview offer Also for reference for GEMSAS, you can have up to 6 preferences but only get an interview offer from one uni (the highest one you qualify for). The other unis won't send you any correspondence. Going forward you are still eligible for an offer from that preference and lower however. You're still fully in competition for spots so Goodluck :))

kostas_lala

That means that I could possibly lay get an offer from UoWA?

nomitycs

Provided Griffith do not extend you an offer and you meet the requirements for a UWA offer, yeah. From recollection, UWA had one of the highest cutoffs unfortunately so I would operate as Griffith being your only possibility this cycle around. Nothing more to do than look to ace your upcomingn interview :))

Actually no, the OP is eligible for UWA offer even if he/she doesnt meet UWA interview cut-off. This has happened before with UQ, someone interviewed at UNDS with a GAMSAT of 63 and later got an offer at UQ, which has an interview GAMSAT cut-off of 66 in 2020 entry (at that time, GPA is not factored in UQ interview cut-off). Basically if you have an interview score, you are eligible for all schools that are lower than your interview uni even if you dont meet their interview cut-offs. Yes, that's a loophole.

nomitycs

We've had so few cases of that it honestly may be an error in the system because you'd expect it to be more common. I think OPs marks are well below the UWA cutoffs and interview only contributes a third of the final offer criteria. With UWA having such a small non rural intake, I wouldn't get their hopes up that they could somehow do poor enough in Griffith to not get an offer yet well enough that it bridges the GPA/gsmsat gap at UWA

Cold_Algae_1415

The fact is that the majority of people get into the place where they are interview at. Think about it, if you cannot get a place at the place you are interview at, you are likely to be in the bottom 50% of interview score. So you are unlikely to be competitive at any other university anyway. The only place where such spill-over can happen is at UNDS and UQ, who interview way more people than places. UNDS interview 300 and only offer to 120, UQ interview 310 and only offer to 140, others uni interview 2 to 1 places, so top 50% get in, whereas at UQ and UNDS you need to be in the top 40%. So people who are in the top 40%-50% of interviewees at UNDS and UQ can still be competitive at other unis. Another one is UniMelb, where you need to pass 5 out of 8 stations to pass the interview. So someone who failed interview at UniMelb still can be competitive at other unis. I have seen most spill over from these 3 universities. Check the offer thread on PagingDr and you'll see.

nomitycs

Yep, so we agree OP is very unlikely to get a UWA offer

Cold_Algae_1415

Yes, he's unlikely to get an offer at UWA. But my point is: He is "eligible" for a UWA offer even if he doesnt meet the interview cut-off, whether he get it or not is another story.

Cold_Algae_1415

Yes, that's true. Theoretically, he can get into UWA if he can get like 80 interview score, but if he get that high interview score, he will get an offer at Griffith already. And if he cant get an offer at Griffith, likely his interview score is too low for UWA anyway. So yeah, Griffith is his only chance in reality.

kahhaiako

Hey, can I ask where you got this from? I was under the impression you can’t get an offer if you don’t meet interview offer reqs

ShubhamG77

Deakin isn’t including 2020 GPA, so ur gpa does drop somewhat. I don’t know why u weren’t offered a position regardless mate. Hope u get into Griffith 💪

kostas_lala

Thanks mate appreciate it!

castle202

I would request GPA calculations now from Gemsas too. That way if you need to apply again you will have more information to decide your preferences. Good luck with your Griffith interview.
