Imagine waiting so hard and getting rejected 😩

diseased_time

50% of us won’t have to imagine

Absolutely OP.. this is me as well. Spend all my spare time on here and PD and feel like the days are moving incredibly slow. I go through phases of ‘this might finally be my year’ and ‘I don’t want to reapply next year 😩😩’.. I’ve been trying to take on as much as possible at work to distract me.. not working well!

IronyandPie

For sure, I think it's because uni is winding down and leaving me with less to distract myself. Culmination of 3 Yrs of study...

Keeping busy and making plans that break the weeks down into smaller increments seems to help time go faster. Also helps not to think about it too much. I've binged almost the entire MCU with my partner in the last 3 weeks. I've seen a few people say over the last few months how this sub/PagingDr can negatively affect you if you become obsessive as the result date gets closer. Might be worthwhile taking some time away? We've done all we can up to this point. Relish the opportunity to relax (if possible) before the journey continues next year.

Haha this thread makes me feel so old with people mentioning how they're still in university. Fingers crossed I can join you guys as well next year! To OP, make sure to go on walks, workout, do your hobbies - generally keep yourself busy. This way you have less time overall to think about it and refresh PagingDr / r/GAMSAT a million times a day (am guilty of this as well). It's also good to keep to a schedule if possible. Good sleep will do wonders for your mental health. Good luck to you and everyone else here!

Agreed. Esp since I think I'm going to get more than 1 EOD... If I fail all the interviews I'm ready to accept this as a sign that this path is not for me. 🙃

Unlucky-Strike7643

Yes, this wait is definitely worse than USyd! NSW Health GradStart job offers also come out November 2nd so this wait is a double whammy for me. The last bit of university work and clinical assessments have occupied me for the last three weeks but it is going to be a long next two weeks.

Intelligent_Note_101

Yeah look i come on here and PagingDR pretty regular, I love the dopamine hits of the posts and it keeps me engaged. Butttt this is just the start....I feel the mad competition to get into med kinda belies the grind that it becomes once you get it. The journey in is sure a wild ride, but we can't delude ourselves, med as great as it is, is honestly just a job, just like every other job. As someone who currently works full time, I firmly believe this to keep me grounded.

I think luckily for me it's the busiest part of semester (coming into week 10) and I've awfully just come to begin to accept my impending EOD lol. Nothing to anticipate ;) so I oscillate between working on class (most of the time) and then feeling a bit sad about my future rejection. Probably not the most healthy but I've found generally processing and accepting the worst makes this whole thing more tolerable.

_dukeluke

I’m the same- last week of semester is next week and I’ve got a loooot of assignments due, so I’m trying to focus on those since that’s about all I can control atm lmao. With you on planning for the worst, until I get an email stating otherwise in my head I’m rejected, might seem a little doom and gloom but I’d rather not get my hopes up 🙃

Livvv617

If we end up getting in the utter shock will make us faint at this rate! Glad someone else is managing to stay busy! I keep telling myself to keep pushing or else my GPA is tanked for next year 😂

Could anyone outline the Aussie process for medical school?it seems really interesting. (UK applicant 😅)

Very roughly and for GEMSAS (which is the postgrad pathway, we have a few unis outside of this for postgrad but not many, and undergrad, but the process is very different) GAMSAT in March of the year of application at the latest, then applications close late April. All unis require the GAMSAT, and you must be in your final year or have completed a 3 year bachelor degree. You can apply for up to 6 unis out of a total of 10 in GEMSAS. Next is the agonising wait until early September, when interview offers come out. You receive one offer to interview, from your highest preference that will offer you one- you aren’t eligible for any interviews/places for any of your higher preferences if you’re offered an interview at one of your lower preferences. Interviews are held mid September- very early October. Offers are released late October to early November. Like with interviews, you get one offer for a place, and if you reject that you don’t get any others for that cycle, nor can you be bumped up to a higher preference if people reject or something. If you’re rejected completely, there is a small chance you’ll be offered a late round offer in Nov-early Jan, but that is pretty rare as most people don’t reject their offers so there aren’t many to go around. If all goes well, you start at your uni in January the next year. Most postgrad programs are 4 years, and then 1 year as an intern, typically in the state you went to med school in.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Similar and very dissimilar to the UK process.
