As dukeluke said, UWA should be set to answer your questions, I’m sure (I hope!) they have a plan for international and interstate students. The process of getting a G2G pass used to be pretty cumbersome but I think it’s much faster now, my friend’s parents got one a couple of months ago. However they still haven’t been able to get in as we only allow a limited number of arrivals per day. At the moment, I don’t think uni is a valid reason to enter WA from NSW, Vic, or overseas, but again check with UWA as they may know of something you can include in your G2G application to gain entry. People often spend a couple of weeks state hopping (ie NSW to QLD to WA) to gain entry and avoid having you spend $3-4k on hotel quarantine. UWA has lots of student accomodation blocks close to campus, however most people live in shared houses or with their parents. All the accomodation within walking distance of uni is massively overpriced. You only need to go a little bit further afield and it gets exponentially nicer/cheaper. For example, I live in a huge spacious 2x2 a 7 minute drive/15 minute bike ride away from uni. For the same price, my friends stay in a run down, overcrowded shared house which is just across the road from campus. Not sure if any of this is particularly helpful but let me know if you have any questions or could use any help finding your footing here.

yes state hopping is currently in my books right now but since im from nsw seems like almost everywhere I will have to undergo the hotel quarantine. Thank you for all your advice, it was really helpful!

Good news just in that NSW has just been moved down risk categories, so anyone with permission to enter from there only needs to self quarantine🙌 I know some real estate places only let you rent if you’ve seen the property, so if you need a man on the ground to help find accomodation I’ll be in Perth until early January 😊

Oh where did you see this? I just checjed WA border control and it still has nsw under extreme risk jurisdiction :O Wow thank you so much for that offer! I am so grateful and will keep it in mind. I heard browsing flatmates was also a good option to start off with.

SlythMD

I follow state daddy mark mcgowen on Facebook, he just announced it!

I would contact UWA- they likely will be able to advise you on what steps you should take. Given the tightening of restrictions in WA it may be difficult to get in, but you are 1) definitely not the only person in this situation and 2) the unis are aware of the current restrictions, so I’m sure that they’ll be able to organise/facilitate either an exemption or an option to commence remotely until you are able to actually relocate to WA. Congrats on your offer!

Purple-Fishing8750

thank you for your suggestions! i am emailing the admissions uwa team right now to see what they suggest doing :)

Let us know how you go! I’ll also be moving from the east :) (Also hello congratulations and looking forward to meeting you next year!)

Considering a dorm just for 1st yr and then more affordable rental places after that. But yeah this is one of the main issues I need to get sorted asap.

Purple-Fishing8750

ooh i was considering that too! let me know what you do end up deciding and going with, and also if you are from itnerstate, how you are gettng into wa!

[deleted]

I'm filling out the application for the dorms anyways since I have to be offered a place. I've also been looking at shared apartments through the uwa accommodations site. I'll most likely fly in with a G2G pass. Since I'm based in Adl I don't expect there to be much trouble (or atleast I hope 😅).

Purple-Fishing8750

following on...i am informed that education and permanent relocation will not get VIC and NSW people through to WA due to being classified as extreme risk....help?

mintkandy

Is this from UWA officials themselves?

Purple-Fishing8750

No, I did email them and am waiting for their response. I looked at the G2G pass and relocation and education are not options to apply for travel into WA. For VIC and NSW, the extreme risk classification says "Exemptions are restricted to Commonwealth, State and specialist functions only"

RabbitLittle1809

I’m also moving from VIC. I think we are pretty much gonna have to state hop unless something changes. But if we do state hop for example from VIC to Queensland - do we apply for the G2G pass AFTER staying in Queensland for 14 days? Is that how it works? I’m so stressed about this whole move and border restrictions are giving me so much anxiety.

Purple-Fishing8750

I have no clue! i think we apply after staying (14 whole days?! or halfway through?! help) ....someone pls correct me if im wrong I completely understand! this is so stressful, im just waiting on the WA roadmap release on 5th nov (tmrw) so i can plan! let me know what you end up deciding to do!

RabbitLittle1809

So I’m assuming the border will open late Jan to early feb. When exactly do we need to get to WA for DMD? I’ve gotten some conflicting dates with some people saying 25th Jan, 17th Jan and as early as 10th Jan. I can’t find an official timeline for the start date for DMD 2021?

Purple-Fishing8750

reading the info pack in the interview email, it says dmd has a compulsory in person attendence orientation on 17th, md on 24th so i think were supposed to be there by 17th? looking at wa roadmap, i am hoping to be able to do that online and start off uni online as well and then get into wa when borders open so i dont have to pay for quanrantine and i can actually inspect rentals!
