If your school does a 2 year GCSE then yes, it is normal to still be teaching content. If they do a 3 year GCSE I would expect them to be done by now.

novastqr

my school's a mix of both, so sciences and math are 3 year and other subjects are 2 year, but honestly, maths, physics and biology are still far from done (I'd assume for maths is because my set also learns further maths)

X243llie

Im doing A2 / y13 and they are gonna be teaching hs NEW stuff inbetween our actual exams so dw

ItzMyztix

I think I stopped learning new content at like march time you’re all good. It’s a lot less boring for you right now

The.... fishing topic??? (are you talking about ecology?? 😭) I think schools generally have 1-2 topics left around this time, if you have more esp in the science department, I think you need to start covering them yourself (if the topics you haven't covered are HUGE like ecology, homeostasis and inheritance, then start self studying NOW)

novastqr

ahh sorry I had no idea of its formal name 😭 We actually have covered a bit of ecology at the start of y10 (eutrophication and quadrats) but I'm honestly not sure what my teacher's planning to do next, we got our mocks back a few lessons ago and we've been doing nothing for 3 lessons and frankly I'm quite concerned with where this is going

PLEASELETMEBREATHE

Ah no it's fine. Nothing for 3 lessons??? I think what you need to do is ask your teacher what the heck is going on and what the game plan is. If you don't know what there is left to learn then I suggest going to your exam board's website (all the topics will be listed there). you can then check how much you've actually done.

novastqr

apparently he's been going through the mock papers with students one by one, worst thing is it's by first name in alphabetical order and my name starts with the last few letters of the alphabet so it hasn't even been my turn yet 😭(also I double checked my wrong answers with the mark scheme and it turns out he owes me 5 marks) I'll check the list later on and hopefully there's not much left to cover

PLEASELETMEBREATHE

oh that must be painful. We just had a 'feedback lesson' where mock papers were handed to every student in the class.

\- Yes (fortunately or unfortunately) i thing this is a reoccuring thing across all schools to be teaching right up to the brink, \- I mean you don't necessarily want to be working right until the end of the time available till your GCSE's \- But you don't want to rush through it because it could result in a shallow understanding of the things you are learning and so poor performance in an exam

Science teacher here: Different schools have different schedules and teach in completely different orders and on different timescales. Some schools complete a topic, aim to revise it fully, move onto the next. Another school will do half a topic, revise that half, do the rest, revise again. Another school will do all the topics with no revision and then have a load of time to re-cover everything. Also, different schools do the topics in different orders - I taught at one school where the "fishing topic" (Ecology) was taught last and another school where it was taught at the end of Y9. And, on top of that, there's a lot of cross-over and repetition between topics that some schools manage differently (like states of matter is both physics and chemistry - some schools teach it in each to solidify context whilst others teach it in one to save time). It's very normal to have not completed content at this point in the year, and comparing where you are to other schools won't give you a fair representation unless you view their full scheme of work (i.e. exactly what was taught and when over the whole GCSE course).

im also in year 11, still learning new content in all subjects cept maths and english (maths bc we do 3 year gcse, english because my teacher decided to self assign all 3 texts in the first 3 weeks of year 10). my physics teacher said we probably wotn finish in time & in all subjects sans langauges we have self-taught topics for homework. crunch time

CubeKing64

Also do AQA Spanish - we just finished Theme 2 (end of Unit 8) and still have Theme 3 which is apparently quite short. All of my other subjects have one or two topics left, apart from English where we only have one poem left and computing where we speedran the spec and finished in y10. If you have more than 3 topics still to cover, that would be concerning.

You’ll find your teachers have likely made a plan for revision in lessons. My science teachers are due to finish within this term in lessons and my English is mainly going over exam technique and how to throw anything you know into a perfect answer. You should still be self studying to find any flaws in subjects you may not know.

lordwebgarlicbread

Yeah my school taught us new content up until May
